We have been in Ayutthaya for a few days now, contemplating our next steps for our Thailand road trip. Our goal was to get to Chiang Mai with our car, Rocket, and go on some epic camping adventures in Northern Thailand. But if you have been following our journey then you'll know we've been having some struggles with our car since we started a few weeks ago. We want to share with you not only our decision but why we've come to make this decision.

You guys should have spend more of your budget on the suspension hardware and running gear of the Rocket instead of its cosmetics. Get it right this time!😅
When you first introduced Rocket, I knew this was going to be a gong-show of a vlog. You probably picked the worst vehicle possible as your overland transportation and there's a reason it was dubbed the "Suzuki Sideflip" in North America. The short wheelbase, big tires and light weight were a recipe for disaster from the start. I'm quite happy that you decided to stop driving it and have changed your plans.
Sorry to see your heartbreak about the change in your plans. You two put so much hard work into your content. Don’t worry, it will all work out.

The hard decisions are the ones we remember and later appreciate as wisdom. I was so sorry to see you so sad but respect your decision. The camping trip is not off it is simply delayed. You two are such an inspiration to me with the care and love you share and your ability to adapt to what life tosses your way. My only concern is, holy cow! That's a lot of stuff to tote around! The Astra is a very nice place. If I recall correctly that is in the Niemann section of Chiang Mai. Really good restaurants there. Love you guys. Be well and looking forward to your next vid!

Sorry to hear Rocket isn't up to the journey. On a side note, rental vehicles aren't too expensive in Thailand and are about $600 for almost 2 weeks. I stayed at the Astra last year and there is a car rental office in the garage.

Took us almost two years to put Rocket together so we were quite sad to send Rocket back. Hopefully we can bring him back soon after all the necessary upgrades 😊

My brother has the same car as you, and after driving it for a week, I could feel your stress; at high speeds, everything shakes, including me. You can never truly rest in this car, my brother has to fix something every month. Good luck on your trip.
That’s exactly it.. we feel like we’re constantly fixing something 😅 It is a great car for island life not for road trips.
Plans for trips sometimes have sharp turns on the road. Like you, my trip had to be changed. The disappointment in your faces about “Rocket’s illness” was felt in my face too. (:… You are right when you said that the universe has other plans for us all. As the Persian poet Rumi wrote…”Be grateful! It is easy to give thanks after obtaining what you want, thank before having what you want”. I was scheduled to be there in Chiang Mai this last weekend in January. But that didn’t happen. But you both are safely there instead! I’m sure Rocket will be up to taking you camping another time!!!! Safe travels guys. :)
I've followed all your videos and have enjoyed everyone of them. You've taken me to places i well never see. The love you have for each other always shows thru all your videos. That’s very true. We try to stay positive but it’s been a tough few weeks for us mentally. It felt hard to let go of our plans initially but now we feel relieved.

Awww poor rocket! I hope he can get fixed and you guys can try to do your epic road trip again. I totally understand how flora feels, I also cried when my roadtrip car died on me lol its not only the car but the planned adventures and awesome footage for the series that leaves with the car. Your backpacking videos will still be fun to watch though :)
Rocket means so much more than just an old car to us. We have so many memorable experiences with Rocket and have met so many wonderful people along the way. He just needs some rest and upgrades. Hopefully we can bring him back soon 😊
Special wishes on your travels! We covered thousands of kms last year in Thailand in a rental car and upgraded from a Toyota Wish to a Pajero because we didn’t feel safe especially on those big highways. So good decision to be safe, Rocky is a beautiful vehicle and I am sure will find happy roads to live out the years. Loving the gentle and supportive relationship you have!
Rocket loves to be on the roads in Koh Samui more 🤭 He’s in rehab now and hopefully will be able to join us again soon

Sorry your plans are dashed. Glad you made the safe decision. A short wheel base vehicle like the Suzuki is not ideal (even a reliable one) for the open road or even road trips it’s more for running around a place like Samui. They are unsafe at highway speeds. Maybe try a used standard size 4X4 or used pickup truck? They are safer and far more reliable. Get advice from people who are experienced at road trips and vehicles,some of your TH-cam friends perhaps. Looking forward to your future adventures.

I saw 2 doors RAV-4 a lot in NZ, till 2021. The guy is old but solid and the right type for your journey. Hope you could get that one in Thailand, probably very rare or not existed.
I think you're fortunate that God is protecting you both. You have some inherent wisdom putting aside a material possession in exchange for safety. You guys have each other, and this makes for a good adventure and stories for children someday.

I feel your pain. I have a 2000 Ford explorer, she my baby. I have 250,000 miles on her. She has never let me down. But i do take good care of her with all the proper maintenance.

I have Jeep Grand Cherokee where my wife and I first bought when we had nothing to lose. The idea was it will be our camping touring car and also our work horse. We had some great times with it but lately it is giving us issues like literally stop working while we are on a busy 100km highway. Because of this we have lost faith in driving the jeep for our adventures. It's a shame and I know how you guys must feel.
We actually had such a good run with Rocket before the road trip started so maybe that’s what gave us hope that he’s ready for this 😅
Another door shall open in life. This Suzuki model is not ideal for such an adventurous long road trip. You both made the right choice 👍🏼

I was contemplating doing a big Thailand road trip in my 10 year old BT50 3.2, and I was checking out your channel for ideas etc.
We didn’t have the best of luck with our vehicle but exploring Thailand by road is lots of fun! Hope you’ll do a road trip 😊
It make me laugh so hard when the driver thought you forgot the camera and P’note said that
This whole emotional attachment to a car is a bit weird to me but whatever.
But why would you take a car that seemingly can't go above 70km/h onto the highway and then be surprised that you're being passed left & right by faster cars/trucks?
i believe in what Note was saying too, things happen for a reason and we should listen to our gut feelings. Being a the driver of a anxious roadtrip wont be enjoyable and for sure, stressful. Rocket may not be built for the highway but could shine in many of the off-roads destination of the southern Thai. As Buddha's teaching goes, attachments are suffering, some expectations are mean to be let go and the only constant is change, and we must learn to embrace it.

If the car always breaks down it is very stressful. I've been thru that before with an old mini I really like that car but too bad it was giving alot of problems so I had to part with it I know how you feel. But heads up great things will surely come

Your safety is more important than anything. Maybe it wasn't Rocky's time, but who knows the future. Bht we enjoyed.

That’s true, back to just us and our usual adventures now.
The Suzuki look practical in hot/humid environments but it’s old and not reliable:that why it was discontinued. Get a vehicle in the 4th or 5th generation of the model (Toyota Land Cruiser etc.),than you know that vehicle have been perfected(of course there exceptions to the rule).
Also I saw a couple negative comments here but that is it expected,can’t please them all. All in all, I’m still enjoying your content. Keep it up.

Driving on the Thai highways isn't easy. Thats a bummer though, that car was so cool. But i'm sure you'll fix the issues and be back in it!

Pick up a motorbike & head to Valley Coffee at Lanna Resort, get there before 11am you will have the place to yourselves. Very peaceful & beautiful spot.

You are always going to have problems with that vehicle if you run those oversize wheels. You need to run with the standard wheels as the manufacturer designed. Those oversize wheels are placing too much stress on the other mechanical systems (differential, transfer case, transmission, output shaft, etc).

You just need to ‘unmodify’ Rocket and he’ll be a faithful and reliable companion. Take the huge mud tyres off and drop the raised super off road suspension and he’ll still be amazing off road but also great on the highway.

@@FloraandNote it will make an incredible difference, especially on the Highway. Rocket, even in stock form is very capable off-road and could already go nearly anywhere in Thailand. It will solve your problems for sure because big modifications put so much more stress on a vehicle that isn’t designed to run them…the only upside is they look kind of cool.
My thoughts exactly. Those big tires put a lot of strain on the drivetrain and being so high makes it unstable. Go back to the original specs and it will hold up and drive better.
I can relate but what a friend once told me stands true “ it may look pretty but one doesn’t know until you look inside and what it’s made of that will resonate it’s real worth”. Rocket was pretty but wasn’t made for what you needed him to be 😔 👋👋 Rocket 👀 for his replacement 🙏🙏
Man that Bus ride to Chiangmai brought back so many memories of my first bus trip but the bus we were on was horrible as the lady who sat in front of me her chair was broken and she laid on my lap until the meal at midnight 🤦♂️
Groggy and not hungry I rushed back to my seat to prop up her hair at a 90 degree angle for the rest of the way 😂😂. Thanks for the memories and why I fly around Thailand and SE Asia😉😂🙏

Sorry to hear that your favourite jeep Rocky giving problem again.
Is advisable to let Rocky retires permanently, otherwise both of u will face more endless problem. Like break down in the middle of the road, need to call for tow car, look for mechanic, and ended up time consuming & spend alot of money.
Meanwhile both of u travel as usual, save as much as u can to get a brand new jeep later on.

Good choice. If rocket makes it to north thailand, the cost of repairs along the way could have bought you guys another car. Get a 2nd hand 2015 fortuner for 500k thb and it would bring u until china and back without breaking down.

By the way, I thought chan mai is somewhere to avoid in Jan-Mar as all the fields will be burnt so the air pollution is very bad. I tend to go to Thailand in March so I missed a chance to go to chan mai last year, and most likely this year too. Is it not that bad?
We find the air quality still pretty good in January but starting mid Feb-mid April it’s pretty bad. Right after Songkran Festival in April it will be much better.

Hehehe Rocket is our baby. It took us almost two years to put him together. Still lots to do but it’s part of the adventure. We have been to Chiang Rai before but haven’t filmed there. Maybe we will make our way up there soon 😊

Enjoy the VIP busses, I do. Being over 65 now (well over) I appreciate someone else taking the strain.
We were glad to see two drivers who take shifts … definitely felt more re-assuring than a solo driver.
