Wish I had searched youtube before wasting money on a glass and tile drill that is useless for porcelain. Oh well back to Bunnings for the diamond core bit. Thanks for the informative video
i tried the same red diamond drill,,,,,,,,,,good for 10 holes, and it took 8 min for 1 hole, then the dirt fills up the inside of the drill and you can not go deeper. The fat inside lasts only for 2 holes then it is mixed with dust and it is a 15 min job to clean the inside of the drill. Switched over to the older style with an opening in the side, added the trick with the masking tape and did 10 holes in a row in 10 minutes. The package says "no water needed" but that is bull S.
American, New Orleans, LA MY grandson has family over the pond. Mc Clusky he and his Mum, our youngest live next door and I will forward him your video, he is 26 years old, we love having he and his Mum next door. Hansel Schmidt is his name he is into UFO, etc. but your video is very informative and I will pick up a diamond bit for a job that has been extra tough. My wife and I are both 82 so Im adding a grab bar in our tile bathroom and your video has been very helpful. 😗👋
Cheers mate got to drill the tiles in my new bathroom tomorrow and just thought I would check out how to do it. I would have had the drill on hammer. Many thanks am on my way to buy the proper drill.
excellent short and clear presentation from a fellow Aussie re how to drill porcelain tiles. Wish I knew that before deciding on porcelain and not ceramic tiles ! I have a lot of holes to drill !
Thank you for this video!! I just spent 3 days tiling a bathroom floor, went to install a new toilet and the rusted flange snapped. The fear of cracking one of these tiles - terrified me. I’m a girl who is super proud of every home improvement project I complete. Now I’m feeling like this won’t be half the job I was afraid it was going to be. Thanks again..
The video was fantastic, straight to the point, the drill bit worked extremely fast. I guess with your experience you can move forward quickly. Thanks again...Andy
Good information. Masonry to start, diamond to finish. Is ths better than starting with the diamond on a 45 degree angle to start, and then slowly rotating to square?
I checked out the price of the special drills in Sept 2022 they seemed to be about mid forty dollars (at Bunnings). I borrowed a part used one and with cooling after about a minute I was maybe 1.5 mm deep. I suspect it's going to take ages to drill four holes.
I used a masonry (concrete) drill bit, and after a painstaking amount of time, I made a whole trhough it fracturing the otber half of a ceramaic porcelain pot.
Great info, just had our shower tiled and the installer got the measurements wrong on the shower head supply rail, so I've got to finish it off. Porcelain is a bitch to work with, but pretty gorgeous finish on these ones. Bit of a piss off, hired him because I was too busy and needed it done...should have known better
@@stevewaclo167 the edges of porcelain are clean, flat, square & the colour of the surface of the tile. Ceramic has different colour on tile edge & a masonry drill bit will drill with ease. Porcelain / a masonry bit will take a white to drilll & the drill bit will melt
Much appreciated fella great advice I watched your video after trashing a masonry bit. All the best from the U.K. 👍👍

Many thanks for the masterclass, everything I needed to know. 👍
Thanks, about to drill my tiles - good video, good tips, much appreciated.

A very nice video indeed: very clear, straightforward - all the information I needed. Thank you.
Great video! I should have watched pre-project, as it was really difficult with masonry/glass bits. Thanks!
I was struggling with a carbide tipped drill until I saw your video. Your method worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip.
No problem. Thanks for the comment. 👍

Love the way you called the inventor of porcelain tiles an arsehole. I think you were being kind.
I add a bit of humour to keep it interesting 👍 thanks
Thank you. Now I know why I love visiting Oz. (I'm in the UK.) Practical down to earth speak. Now I have to attack my porcelain tiles!!
Thanks buddy . 🤜🤜
Thank you for your tips, especially the sharpening one and using the masonry for starter hole. Hope more people get to watch and benefit.
Thanks buddy 👍
Thanks! My 4 hr battle with my porcelain wall in order to install a grab bar hopefully will be resolved.
Thanks a lot for such great tips. We were struggling to make hole im 20mm Porcelain Tile. Will try this technique.

Sharpen your core drill bit if it gets a bit time consuming to drill because it make a huge difference 👍👍

Thanks, it was also done with a bit of humour to make it a bit more interesting. Porcelain tiles are hard wearing & good quality. 🌺
Thanks for the info and example, cheers from America
Thanks a lot this really helped in my decision in putting up safety handrail in my Aunts shower.
Good to here . I added a bit of humour to make it more interesting because drilling tiles is so exciting 👍
Great vid. It’s a pain to try to go thru porcelain with a “tile bit.”

Absolutel legend thank you very much

Definitely appreciate the insight.. needed it..
Cheers mate you're a legend
Helpful. Thanks, mate.
About to drill my first porcelain tile tomorrow evening, looks easy enough, I’ll let you know if I balls it up. 😬
If it gets slower & time consuming then sharpening required by drilling into a sharpening stone. Really works well then 👍👍 thanks for the comment
@@glassbeveller Well, it went a little easier than expected, job done and no cracks. 👍

Sharpen by drilling into a sharpening stone, this will work 4 sure. If it’s not already done. 👍
Yes those drills suck, too long and dull after 5 holes.
Porcelain has to be drilled with a diamond drill AND water
Thanks mate - Cheers!
Thanks dude, good advice
Thanks for the comment 👍👍

Does it matter what the grit is on the sharpening stone? Can I just use the cheapest 100/200 grit knife stone?
Cheapest is fine . 120 or 80 is good
Existing tile wall. How do I know if it’s porcelain or ceramic?

No such word as "masonary" relative to which you are referring. The word is masonry.
Yet, 90% of the English world says, “masonary”.
For some reason the videos on this topic in an American accent weren't as useful.
Yeah the Australian accent & lingo was part of the amusement in this video 👍👍
