You nailed it !!!! I don’t people realize how much planning and effort it takes for months to make it seem so effortless! Hubby and I did France and Morocco in October and I sew most of our outfits! Make kaftans your friend!!! They are lightweight!!! All carry on only! No problem with royal air Maroc with our beis carry on!

Your style rocks! I love all your outfits and think you nailed it. I love the convenience of the roller bags but whenever I fly on those strict 7kg flights, I find the backpack gets less hassle. The counter person barely looks at it when I show them that's all I have. Have a safe trip!

It has always been a challenge packing in a cabin bag 7 kms in Australia however after checking your video I would cull the number of clothes to 3 tops 3 long pants + one outfit for plane ; this advice was given to me by a very elegant lady who travelled overseas: I have tried this method and it works ;janice

Wow. I can't even imagine. Wouldn't your friend, Kristen, loan you her July Light Expandable? You still would need to whittle down your wardrobe a little more, but at least you wouldn't have the annoyance of carrying that backpack. I can't wait to see the video after you return. I hope you had a great time and that your scuba certification was successful.

This is why I might buy the July Lite (not expandable). I think it's the lightest on the market. I also bought a lot of my toiletries at my destination and use hotel shampoo, conditioner and body wash. My airline gave me tooth brush and paste so I didn't even pack that. Ugh. It sucked

I’ve traveled to Lebanon and mainly was working at a refugee camp and did not feel that I needed a male with me at all times but I definitely was “reading the room” so to speak when it came to assimilating… What to wear, not touching, not even making direct eye contact with older men etc. it can be tricky but it can open up so much of the world when you travel outside of one’s comfort zone!

I again so love your videos. So you would be proud of me. Ok I practicing packing and c/o only . We’re going on a cruise in Europe this fall, 10 ports and staying nectar 2 days so need to pack for 13 days. Since I have air thru the cruise line I don’t know the flights yet. So planning for worst case in them weighing my c/o. So I need to plan weight at 17 in case I get Luthansa or KLM, etc. c/o1- I got the heys ultra expandable weighing in empty at 5.2lbs. I followed capsule packing to 4 bottoms, 8 tops, 2 sweaters, 14 dresses, 1 pj, 12 underwear. No formal dress will use the black one and accessorize. That was weighing 9.8lbs that packing cube. So i removed 2 dresses (as i think I wouldn’t wear them) and replaced with dressy shorts and another top. So now they weigh 6.8 lbs. all of that fit on the one side. The other side only has my vionic pack able walking shoes, my Tiek shoes, i will wear my Vessi, jeans, sweater on plane. So now with one side almost empty and weighs 14.2 lbs!!!! For my husband i am getting the July 3.9 weight carryon as every lbs matters and he is a 2X.
My personal item going max 15.7x12x6. I wont be carrying laptop or photo equipment. So I am pretty much open there. When I find out my flights in August I may add a dressier dress. But really I don’t wear hats, I don’t need a lot of jewelry changes, maybe add a lightweight rain something or other. But YES I feel good about packing for Europe for 14 days in a c/o personal item and will still have LOTS of room (whole side of the bag plus can expand and check if needed on the way home!)
Thank you again for your great videos!

I'm packing for a 7kg limit for Japan. Not as conservative as the Middle East, but 'no bare shoulders or cleavage' conservative. I'm going in Autumn.
Lightweight clothing that is modest? For a (NZ) size 16-18 Petite? It's not sold here, and I've had *exactly* the same clothing issues that you have had. Low cuts, splits, 'frozen shoulders', high hemmed tops/cropping and cinched trouser ankles/harem pants.
I have been trying to pack for two years so far. I am not an over-packer; I just cannot find the clothes I want to wear! Those loose cotton pants used to be sold everywhere. Not anymore.

You did well. When I went to Abu Dhabi, I basically wore the same boring outfit all the time. All grey. Loose knit pants, fingertip length long sleeved tunic and a wide infinity scarf. When I went to the Grande Mosque, they just let me in and I was disappointed cause I wanted to wear one of the abyahs they give you, lol. Fortunately I was staying in a gated community where it was okay to wear my shorts, but had to wear the grey outfit whenever I went outside the gates.

Wow, this was a tough one. I know by now you've mastered your scuba cert (I believe in you) and had a lot of fun. Remember, never hold your breath, come up slow and have fun. Like another poster I lived in SA in the mid-70s so a lot has changed. We were able to wear pants and tunics as long as the tunics covered our crotches and we had our underarms covered. I had a lot of long skirts because my Mama sewed and had a lot of light weight long sleeve tops. I also wore sort of African caftans which we bought there. They weren't long sleeves but as long as the under arm was covered it was o.k. We didn't technically have to wear a head cover in Jedda and Riyadh but I usually just threw a light weight scarf over my head so I wouldn't get pinched by the women while in the Souks. When we were out in the dessert visiting the Bedouins I always wore long skirts and long sleeve tops and covered my head. Out in the dessert I usually wore hiking boots because there are a lot of things that bite. I wore sandals most of the time in town, most of the Saudi women wore sandals even the ones who totally covered up. I hope you are enjoying yourself, Jedda is beautiful.

As a female I have solo trekked from the Himalayas to Istanbul. Even though there are wonderful changes in the Middle East as far as women’s rights and their obligatory costumes I feel as western travelers we should dress very conservatively as not to draw disdain from older generations. I’ve marched on Washington and I’m very outspoken as a feminist but I do not feel as travelers we should be making such statements as outsider influences are just fuel on the fire.
On travel days I would dress like a Bedouin, synthetic travel pants, wool T-shirt, long sleeve shirt or a jacket and a pashmina as a hijab. Once at a destination I would wear long and breathable skirts, closed shoes, long sleeves, and at most a niqab. Even in Yemen I did not feel the need to wear a burka but that depends on the area of a city or rural area you may be.
As far as the weight limits for these types of trips planning for only one weather zone I carried the lightest weight convertible backpack possible, my cabin-zero was my favourite throughout my most recent trip to the Mideast. It doesn’t have to be comfortable because it’s going to be so lightweight it won’t dig in to your shoulders. Allbirds walking shoes are great as lightweight conservative shoes.
I’m at the part of the video when you’re showing your tank tops and T-shirts and I understand you’re going to be spending time on the beach but my treks were mostly to visit city center‘s so I stuck to a black monochromatic color scheme and only longer knit blended shirts. I often travel with just black/grey colours and rarely wear pattens so sticking to that scheme made this much simpler. (I’m the Marie Kondo of capsule wardrobe packing) 😂
OK, I’m now at the part of the video when you’re complaining about backpacks and insisting that lugging wheels around airports is the way to go. I still believe in a few years when you’ve experienced traveling with convertible or expedition backpacks you’re going to ditch the wheels for good but for now… Just consider that backpacks do not bother you when they are not loaded down with so much. I understand you’re a world-famous Vlogger and you have to bring more tech with you than most of us but… these items can be in your personal item and your clothing can all fit into a lightweight backpack. see above notes on the cabin-zero bag. I’ve been aware of the eBags motherlode for many years and I’ve often suggested it to people who i knew one-bag travel would be a hard sell… But it is definitely not a lightweight bag for these excursions. It is, however, still a better option in my book as all I can think is with a hard suitcase you are dragging not only wheels but I handle. Do you really need a handle for every day life?? Other things you could pack if you didn’t have wheels and a handle!?!
I’ve been too busy to even be on Instagram and I could’ve sworn you were already on your trek so maybe this video was posted late. If you’re still on the trip I wish you the best and if you have already returned I look forward to your next video as you look back at this most recent and wonderful trip! 🌍 🌎 🌏

What about taking out a shirt skirt and maybe a dress, and then pack laundry soap or soap sheets to wash in the sink of where you stay. And just rewear when clean. Castile soap doubles as laundry and body soap. Or get a bag at an airport store, and then transfer a couple items out of your bag before getting to the gate, even the small packing cube. Hide it under 2 bottles of water/snacks. Or wear a jacket/vest with pockets you can stuff some clothing items in. Or there’s a hack for using a neck pillow cover and stuffing clothing items in there. It’s kinda like your belt bag trick. Let me know what you think.

@@ItsTheKellys unbelievable and awesome! I made a fool of myself in Rome airport, wearing 3 layers over my clothes, each layer with pockets full, because my suitcase was over weight. (I could barely walk between the seats in the shuttle bus, mean super embarrassing) And then had the exact same experience. They didn’t weigh anything. I went through the double doors to security and collapsed in laughter on a bench. Then sat and removed everything and put it in my suitcase. The crazy things they put us through!

Thank God I’m not tall as you, but Plussize lightweight clothing is a struggle. I’m also cover myself in summer because I have such a light skin, no matter where I’m going 😂 In some places like Italy or Spain it’s possible to show my ankles and wrists in the evening, but it must be late in the afternoon 🙈

Girl, I feel you! I just came back from a trip to Dubai and the Maldives, and I have a cousin in Jeddah, so I feel your pain! I would say (1) better to have many "covered up" options with you than to wish you did, because it's hard to find plus sizes in those countries (and everything in the Maldives is so expensive!); (2) layers are your friend--use layers to cover up and it opens up your clothing options! In my experience, Dubai was a little less strict than I had expected--no one covers their hair and mostly it seemed that as long as you covered your shoulders and knees you'd be fine. Maldives was stricter, especially on local islands. You'll see random tourists who don't follow the rules, but they really stick out. (And who wants to stick out, especially if you're by yourself?) In the Maldives, I would only wear shorts or a tank top at a bikini beach, not anywhere else where locals are (though I might layer a tank top underneath a duster or abaya). But a maxi skirt or long linen pants are a good option, or even leggings with a long tunic top or a dress. My cousin in Jeddah made it sound like everyone in Jeddah wears abayas and burqas, so I'm guessing they're super strict there? So I would be prepared to cover everything but feet, hands, and face. I think you have some great clothing options, and in my opinion, I think you'll get a lot of mileage out of your abayas! I would probably wear one of your abayas over loose linen pants (not see-through) and a tshirt in the Maldives and that would be fine. I think in the Maldives and Dubai you could even get away with tshirts like the burgundy one you wear in this video (not in your packing list), so long as your legs were covered. In the Maldives, I also used really lightweight dusters (even beach coverups!) and shackets (shirt jackets) over tshirts and sleeveless tops and that was fine. I usually wear a UPF long-sleeve shirt-like jacket over tshirts for sun protection, and that's plenty of coverage. I think your outfits are great and you'll be fine! Especially love your "puce-green" pants and abaya--you'll get a lot of mileage out of those! And the abaya you sewed yourself is super cute! You're right about the 7-kg limit; it's a real pain. But in my experience, they're VERY strict about it, especially in Dubai. If you have to take a seaplane in the Maldives, the limit is 5kg, which is even more onerous! But you'll be glad you took the backpack when you're in the Maldives. Male airport doesn't have many escalators, and you have to climb a lot of stairs (including to get out of your plane). I had a wheeled carry-on and regretted it greatly! Have a fantastic trip!

you're probably already there but I can share that when my son and I went to Morocco in mid 2000s, I had such a similar dilemma and my male Moroccan companion was not helpful and only amused watching me try to prepack🙄. Although I didn't have to pack for swimming because of the time of year it was but had to bring an annoying knee length puffer and leather jacket and scarf because it was winter in the US. Also, we traveled up and down the coast from seaside to city to mountains to desert it was SO hard to pack for multiple climates and activities. In hindsight I did overpack but did pretty well considering. Instead of wearing my usual flashy clothes, I used color, print, one belt accessory and fabrics to be the focus but still comfortable and toned down to not attract too much touristy attention to myself although I still stood out because of my ethnicity. oh well! it totally might help if you find a legit male guide or cabby that can point you in right direction use your instincts especially in urban areas.
As for your capsule I was surprised you didn't use the lightweight Heys airlite and cubes😮 I would've ditched your purse for something flatter or more versatile, waterproof lightweight like your printed Aloha bag or packable shopper/backpack. You could have substituted all the heavier cotton tshirts with just couple lighter linen blouses pants, skirt or maxi dress and kept your kaftan, one scarf and dolman sleeved tunic over some thicker leggings. People will stare regardless but understand so long as you're respectful of your surroundings and demeanor. The evening hookah bars and public souks we went to seemed to be more accepting of my casual wear and I was probably more self conscious and paranoid than they were tbh. For shoes I brought a pair of flip flops, low heeled leather boots that were great for walking in dusty or cobbled streets and camel riding but not so much for hiking the Atlas mountains😅. I also got a handmade hooded habib and leather slippers from friends there as a gift. I definitely had to check bags for souvenirs back so good luck and curious to see your return unpacking review!! Have fun- we're planning Maldives eventually. There was a job opening at one of the resorts last spring for a bookstore/event manager where I believe room and board is included for one year that rotates! My aunt worked in Saudi Arabia as a nurse for years in the seventies/eighties and she always dressed covered up in Habib including her hair and face except her eyes then she said, but I'm sure things have opened up so much especially with the westernized millennials - you can get everything you need at their megamalls so just pack lighter on the toiletries and do your laundry there!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I was in a different hotel every night so laundry was not a good option. And I did try some of those lighter clothes, but I weighed everything I brought and the items I packed were lighter in weight than kaftans and linen shirts.
However- update- they never weighed me once and I haven’t had a problem at all

This was great. I'm in New Zealand and that 7kg limit is strict. You don't need 2 swimsuits, most dry within a couple of hours, so you could save yourself some weight there.
And how sad about being warned off from even going to the middle East. It's wonderful!

What planes are these airlines flying??? I know IndiGo mainly flies A320s, and they LOVE to get people out and into the plane as soon as they get to the gate to takeoff quickly, but why the 7 kg???? They can’t be saving that much in fuel lol plus they mainly operate the neo variants of the A320s. That should be cost savings enough.
