I was born and raised in Croatia and I grew up with my mom always making a point of having a nice bag, great quality shoes and cvike (sunglasses). Even if she was going grocery shopping, she was always put together. I kind of lost some of those ideas when I moved to the US but after she passed away I got a whole bunch of her shoes and purses and I'm trying to implement those ideas now that I'm in my 40's.
Make sure to check out the sea organ in Zadar. We're going to Split, where I'm from, in a few weeks. Can't wait. It's been 3 years since I've seen my dad. Much thanks from NY!

Taking two pairs of sunglasses is a smart move while on vacation especially if you lose one pair because you put it down or left it on your table as you were grabbing lunch or whatever. You have a back up pair and also if you do lose a pair you can hopefully find another pair in a shop somewhere that is not too expensive.
I always thought wrinkled linen looks lived in, comfortable, and chic.

Alyssa, thank you for great video. Right on with simple, good fabrics wardrobe. You are young, beautiful, great ! But…. I am of a certain age, I do dress classy, the only thing I need from you is shorts that are longer, I do not have your legs ! 🙏
I think 7/8 wide leg pants/ culottes could be a good alternative to shorts.

I'd just add sunglasses not overlooked in Australia. Yes have more than one pair.
My prescription glasses I now wear have transition lenses too.
Sneakers are very like mine. Toe lift always.
Do you know Merrells? Excellent shoes including sandals. They have an Echo friendly goal.
Sandals are a must in Australia.
Swimsuit yes take two.
My last holiday was the final time I could use one particular gorgeous favourite. It "owed me nothing" when I had to throw it away.
Now I'll be looking for a replacement when summer is approaching. Autumn here now.

The soil is red and you won't ever be able to clean your white things, not even socks on a powerful washing machine cycle! A heads up xx

Just had to share - my hubby is NOT into fashion (and is quite a jokester!). He walked into the kitchen while I was watching your video at the point where you talked about the perfect trifecta. My hubby laughed and said, "My perfect trifecta is a pair of gym socks, sweatpants and a clean t-shirt!" LMBO!! I agree with you. I find that all my fashion items can be used. But when it comes to my feet, my eyes and keeping dry I must have functional clothing. If I can't find exactly what I want used in these areas I buy new. I Always buy new walking/running shoes.
So many similarities that I share with you and I’m always learning something new too,love the how wearing a bag can transform a look❤️👍🏽
Some good advice, particularly about shoes
Love the spot you chose to film! Such a beautiful place and the sound of the waves lapping is magical. I love linen in summer, wrinkles and all. Most of my summer basics for travel are in cotton or linen. I’m not much of a bag person at the best of times and I’ve never been one to change bags every day or week. When I’m travelling I have a Travelon bag - how exciting! But safety trumps style every time.

I feel you about the toe lift on your sneakers! I recently traveled to Rome and took a hard fall by tripping on a small curb, which seemed like a no brainer for me to manage, because of the chunky toe of my sneakers. Also, be sure to break in new sunnies for fit before taking them on a warm vacation! My keep sliding and wore blisters.

Linen - love it! In the 80s, as corporate wear suits, it was problematic. However now - on holiday & for casual wear - it's great; skip ironing coz it creases anyway. What's not to love! Bags - yes, diff ways to wear one makes them so great. Thanks for helping me get ready for my next long-awaited next trip. X

Beautiful video! All the tips are spot on. Traveling throughout Spain right now. I had brought my “cute” sneakers which I wore on first day, ended up with blisters due to heat and amount of walking (BTW physically fit)…😆😅 Presently using my Brooks workout sneaker for ALL walking and site seeing. Not so cute but no more blisters and feet don’t hurt…🤣🤣
The lapping of the waves in the background was so relaxing! I just bought new runners yesterday (Brooks) but I think I also need those Asics.
I too bring a ball cap and a sun hat. I’m okay with sandals if they are supportive. I hear you about the terrain. Cobblestones and lots of steps can be hazardous to our health 😎.

Totally agree with your tip for comfortable shoes. Since I have issues with the stability of my feet I have to look for sandals that have a strap at the heel and thicker soles. If anybody ist looking for stable yet elegant sandals I highly recommend the spanish brand Panama Jack.
I love what you said about compromising values for your health and safety. It's something I've really had to learn since having my daughter. She has allergies so food and cleaning supplies become things that the priorities aren't with the planet. Fashionwise I tried to buy all her clothes second hand and that worked for the first year. She's an incredibly slim toddler and so there's 1 high street shop that fits her waist and that's where we buy trousers 🤷🏼♀️ when she gets older it will become more worthwhile to take her things in but for now it's too short a time to do it
I was pretty lanky as a kid and tween. JCPenney brand jeans like Arizona had an embedded adjustable waistband. My Mom saved so much time and I was able to wear jeans for longer across growth spurts.

I love those sneakers! I have to get a pair. I would suggest walking slowly on cobblestones and steps in Croatia. Sneakers are a great option on a rocky beach. Nobody wants pebbles in flip flops! My family is from an island in Zadar County & have learned to tread carefully the hard way.
I wear ASICS and wore them when I ran. They were the best for my feet. Don’t apologize! I have good sunglasses but they are progressives and very pricey. I can’t switch them out unless I spend a bit. I can get cheaper ones but they will still cost a bit. But the ones I have are stylish. Looks like you are enjoying your trip! Like checkin in on your travels. I am going on a sailing vacation in July. Getting my stuff together. No fancy stuff. Mostly MEC type styles! And sneakers and Tevas.

Beautifully shot video Alyssa! Whereabouts are you in Croatia? It looks stunning! I 100% agree with everything you said as essential: sandals are my go-to in the summer here I. Barcelona, I could never survive with just trainers/sneakers! I favour skin-colour sandals so that they go with everything knee-length or shorter in your wardrobe (and so that I don’t buy different colours and fill up my wardrobe with sandals) although I do sometimes buy an extra pair in the same colour as the majority of my long linen trousers because sometimes I like to have matching footwear! 🤣 The fabric and cut of summer clothes is so important for comfort: sometimes you have to really search and not buy things on your list until you have the right fabric mix but it is so worth it in the end! With a capsule wardrobe I would also include handwash detergent and/or accessories to care for your clothes, so that you can get the most use from the pieces you are taking with you. A few years ago started using a brand I think you recommended, Eucalan, in the Jasmin scent, and it is wonderful! No rinse, easy and gets out most stains. Thanks for a great recommendation!

I try to stick to sustainable brands when possible, but I strongly believe that it's better to buy something the really works for you and you know you're gonna use a lot (ie your Asics shoes), instead of buying a sustainable piece that you're not really happy with and you'll end up substituting soon. Also, I'll be going to visit my family in Italy (Sardinia) soon, I love your tips😊😎

I bought a convertible back pack after seeing yours 😎. However for holidays I have a cream crossbody bag and a black one and a black&cream canvas tote bag. I have a black pair and tan pair of Skecher sandals which are super comfy and I take a pair of smart deck shoes or trainers. I must admit I really don't like plain coloured swimwear - it looks too much like underwear to me so I always wear a pattern - just me . You always look amazing.

Waffle/deliberately crinkled cotton/linen = heaven & no noticeably “wrong” creases. Depending on duration of trip etc, mix & match multiway bikini tops & bottoms (usually block colours/all a classic black/navy) = underwear and pool wear (wash & wear), & help avoid tan lines

Hi Sandra :) I know - shoes are one of the most ubiquitous items in landfills as they are the most difficult to repurpose and recycle. I believe Nike has a take back program but I'm not sure how good it is ... I've tried some "sustainable" running shoes but find they do not hold out as long as my traditional ones. Tough dilemmas all around !

all great stuff here. as usual. how do you keep yourself so fit? would be nice to have a video on staying fit and healthy on the road. you obviously have that in spades. as i am aging, i cannot get rid of extra weight, am more rounded in my figure (lol...used to be stick thin) and have a fussy gastrointestinal system. anyway, would be nice to know your daily routine for fitness and health.

I always pack my very light long silk scarf I bought in Sienna. Yesterday I used it over my shoulders tied at the back as a 'cardigan', during the week I have tied my hat onto my head in the wind with it, dressed up a plain T shirt, and used it as a belt.
