Do you reccomend any foldable knife that's good for outdoors like ones that are super durable that I can cut down small trees with and carve, and cut some things
i LOVE my full size Steel Will Gekko...beautiful micarta scales, gorgeous blade grind....mechanically perfect and great finish...and SMOOTH AS GLASS for a mid-lock knife
The Rat Model Model 1 in the link provided Isn't with the D2 steel, I'm actually having trouble finding the d2 version atm. Any other place to find a good deal?
The link you provided for the OKC RAT 1 shows that it's still using AUS 8 steel... what gives? I used to work in tool and die and I know how bad ass of a steel D2 is, and since I already have a RAT 1 & 2, I don't want to buy the same knife twice. What gives?
Best pocket knife...$4 Ozark Trail from Walmart. Bought 5 of them 8 months ago thinking it would dull quick or break. From cutting through plastic banding to diggin through dirt, Ive yet to open another package.
hey i send you some messages about foldingknives for arounr 50 dollars and with your advise i diceded to go for the byrd raven 2. but the problem is i can't get it to where i live. i live in Europe. could you maby recomend any other folding knife for arounf 50 dollars that i can get in Europe?
Hey I'm looking for a every day use self defense / opening stuff knife which do you recommend im just now seeing your video! Any of these 3 mentioned best one? Or any other recommendation; Steel Will 1551 Mini Gekko Benchmade 943 Cold Steel Broken Skull
Hi Gideon. Thanks for the video! You had me mentioned food prep with the Cold Steel Broken Skull. Is there a problem with the black coating when cutting food? I was recently wondering about that.
Best budget or semi budget sharpening system? I'm thinking about getting the ontario rat shown in this video and I want to spend about the same or less on sharpening stuff. I'm in Canada so I need to be able to order it in Canada, thanks. EDIT: I'll get the rat if I can find it with D2. I want it to be able to hold an edge.
Love your reviews thanks again. My favorite edc this year (2016) same as last : Spyderco: Manix 2 translucent blue..beefy leaf shaped blade with light weight and resistent Spyderco, Endura (consistent since 94) the Endura model is awesome. Tops Mil-spie folder...solid quality. Benchmade Mchenry one of the best, love it...I have more but those are my frequent carry.
You should look at ganzo knives. i have used the 720 for a while, and used it for everything from cooking to field dressing and batoning. it is an unbelievable knife that is under $25.
Great video. Love your "Best of ___" compilations. Helps to remember items that I may have viewed on your channel and others, that I forgot about...as in..."I was going to buy that!" Question, though...about Victorinox Swiss Army products? I suppose my choices below could cross the line into the "multi-tool" category, but though I have a Leatherman Wave, and love it, I tend to find that when I need a set of pliers or small wrench...I almost always dig around in my tool box to get a better fit and grip on what ever needs wrench or plier attention. I can't be alone with that scenario. I have a tool box at home, and in my 4Runner, a small on-the-go all in one tool kit like they sell in the front of Lowes/Home Depot. So, I got to a point where I drifted away from EDC of my traditional plier based multi-tool. Now, I have 2 pretty cheap folders that I like and use. So, my question -- Why do you guys tend to avoid Swiss Army/Victorinox products? (At least for a more 70/30 urban vs field use consideration; despite what we men might prefer, we don't actually live in the woods 70% of the time). I have 2 Swiss Army folders that I never leave home without: 1. Classic SD: (very small; key size) $10-15: It is on my key ring that I open all letters with, minor scissors for work that doesn't require sheers, nail file with small but handy flathead, tweezer and toothpick...so, I end up using it literally every single day. 2. And, a Swiss Army One-Hand Nomad Victorinox Grip $35-40: It ended up becoming my EDC by total accident, as a gift from the wife for "picnics", by her philosophy of use...turns out, not only good for picnics and hiking, but about everything else...and CHEAP!!! (and, it bumped my Leatherman from "EDC" to "EDCC", as in, every day in my truck "C"enter "C"onsole"). Tools: -- Large, TOUGH, liner-lock 3.5" serrated (an option I chose), that I use for everything from food prep to minor sawing of limbs in the yard...cutting open boxes...and it is stainless steel, so not too much maintenance. And, it is bigger and thicker than my L-Wave blade! -- Liner-lock bottle opener with large flathead/light use pry tool, etc...multi uses a week. -- Can opener used multiple times a week for lunch at work (tuna; soup), with small flathead, -- Corkscrew I use for red wine at least once a week (Italian wife), -- Awl that is very capable, but seldom used. Your thoughts?
Hi. I will be getting the Gekko Mini based on yours and others reviews. I need help in choosing between the G10 and Micarta. I Iike the looks of the G10 but you mentioned it did not have a lot of grip. Any experience with the Micarta? Which do you prefer? Been watching you for 2 years. Look forward to 2017. Have a Merry Christmas.
Great review! I really like that Steel Will and looks like it could be something to purchase in the future. The blade, handle, everything reminds me of the Spartan Blades Pallas Button Lock folder they have. It might be cool to do a side by side review of those two. Anyway, keep up the good work and look forward to seeing 2016 Best Fixed Blades as well!
I consider a good Scout Utility Knife ( sometimes called a GI knife , or camp knife ) to be the best pocket knifes around . Before my wife and I were married over 20 years ago , I found a 1968 U.S. Camillus military issue pocket knife in a trash pile . I have been carrying that knife everyday for over 20 years and I can't tell you how often it has come in handy . For instance , we were at a friends camp for a BBQ one time and he forgot the can opener for the beans at home , my Camillus GI knife saved the day buy using it's can opener . I have tons of stories like that . If your looking for a high quality Scout Utility Knife Broker makes one of the best . www.boker.de/us/pocket-knife/boker/classic-pocket-knife/110182HH.html.
Great video bro! I think everyone I know jumped on the Rat D2 after your vid came out on it, so I was pretty sure it made I on here. Keep up the awesome vids!!!
OK so where is the RAT 1 d2 version for $30? The cheapest I can find it is $40 plus shipping costs.....kind of takes it out of the great deal category IMO.....
Great vid! Seriously considering the Raven 2... and already have an Ontario Rat 1 with the carbon fiber scales en route. Keep up the good work buddy! :)
I'm a bit surprised that all of these knives are contoured for push cuts, and all have a finger guard, with some a rather substantial one. Don't you guys take pull cuts (paring cuts) or pen grip (scoring) into consideration at all? Any chance of at least recommending one EDC knife that'd also be good for everyday tasks like whittling and scoring?
Spyderco did a S30V titanium bolstered carbon fiber scaled folder, you should review more spyderco's! i really love spyderco and id love to hear someone's opinion like yours, I carry a VG-10 spyderco police every day
I don't get why Spyderco always does these massive finger choils. They are just not necessary on a folder. If they brought the edge all the way back you would be just as close to the edge as with the choil, it is just a waste of blade. It rather makes sense on a fixed blade with a massive guard and to change the balance to a more controlled grip. On a folder however it just makes you carry a huge knife for a little bit of blade.
Great knife review! i think you did a great job with the video. Im not sure i would consider any of these as higher end. i would consider these all low production models. as far as best of 2016 ...ehhhhhhhhh probably not ... but these are great budget knives and again ... video put together really well :)
PkwyDrive13 Have had both. wouldn't say better all around. Action definitely better on the rats but avispa is lighter and thinner. also esee has the best warranty in the biz.
Great job, the Rat in D2 in my opinion is best value. I understand the 1776 Link not making the list but thought the HOB Link might have... perhaps honorable mention as not the main release from Kershaw.
First knife looks hard to sharpen. Thumb stud looks as though it would get in the way and has stupid plunge line. Also bought 2 kershaws od1 and oso sweet and chinese one was better centered than USA made one. Mccusta from japan show their qc.What is with the plunge lines; make heel hard to sharpen or use.
bought 2012 a nice sanrenmu GB-913P,around 40€,similar size,at all pretty similar, also linerlock,! cheap and works and works and works,no more expensive gerber or benchmade,300 € for a knife and you dare only to cut buns in a half!someone knows that stupid experience?but with a knife which is relative cheap, that was the point , where it made sense, even to have one!fuck these unnecessary expensive knifes!don't like to pay for the trademark! do u even know sanrenmu?^^
I git a rat 1 because it was highly rated( highly over rated ) .it was cull in the box .first opening lock stick had to unlock it with a screw driver to un lock it . second opening didnt notice the lock fail .it popped shut on my thumb .didnt need stitches ( a sheeple would have ran to emergency room for stiches and sued ) fixed it .good thing i checked it out because it was a pink one for my daughter .wanted to get something better after that .but it worked ok after I fix it . I call them crap 1s . I got the ganzo 727 ( the ratfink ) much better knife ( same size blade shorter handle g lock better stronger ) for a little less money .
Good knife selection. Go Benchmade, cause if it aint made in 'Merica...it aint made at all! haha. Im a Benchmade guy, own bunch of em, little more money but they are outstanding knives.
Great video, love your reviews and your humble opinion... dude! No kershaw link S35VN?!?!?!?! You, me and everyone else loves that blade. I was shocked not to see it on the list. Maybe an honorable mentions? Haha Giving you a hard time. I know it's tough to choose from so many options. Thanks for making these videos and be blessed brother.
Which knife do yoy hate the most
Do you reccomend any foldable knife that's good for outdoors like ones that are super durable that I can cut down small trees with and carve, and cut some things
No Kershaw link sv?
Does anyone have a link of the rat with d2 steel below 40 bucks. Cant find it
i LOVE my full size Steel Will Gekko...beautiful micarta scales, gorgeous blade grind....mechanically perfect and great finish...and SMOOTH AS GLASS for a mid-lock knife
great list. Where would you put the new kershaw link 1776? thanks for putting out quality content. looking forward to what you have planned for 2017.
Michael Pereira I really like that knife, it's just could make the list.
If I had to guess, it would be weight that held it back...
You linked the aus-8 variant of the rat 1. I was actually really exited to get it in d2.
What gives?
please do a review on terava knife
Good stuff brother! Merry Christmas!
Thanks!
how about colombia folding knife?
is tht a good knife?
How do you carry the Broken Skull legally in your state? My max is 3.5 inches as dictated by state law...which is kinda dumb, but nonetheless the law.
I think that the gerber propel downrange is one of the best pocket knives you can buy
Were did you get that
what do you think about the spyderco native 5?
you talked about the rat1 in d2 but linked to the version in aus8
surprised not to see the house of blades kershaw link on there. I bought mine based on your review and I absolutely love it.
For those interested in the Steel Will Gekko, it's on sale on Midway USA for $120.
What is your dog's name? Where is the USA Boker factory? I recognize the suburbs of Denver in your videos which are helpful.
I like you choices, nothing really flashy, all useful and affordable. Thanks good video.
good job man. but the rat model 1 in the link is the aus-8 version
Michael Shook ok, I will have to change it.
I wish they would make a d2 version of the rat model 2. I like the smaller version for carry in shorts around the house.
definitely picking up the boker just because it's in my price range and I really luv how light it is for edc.
Weird you missed out the best folder for the money by far, the Eka Swede 10 ...
link for the rat d2?
What about the rat 2? Im a teen so i have not the biggest hands, ive held a rat 1 and it feels to big and heavy for me
your link to buy includes the aus8 rat 1 instead of the d2 shown in the video. great video though
Would any of these replace your Manix 2?
Karl. No!
My 940-2 is my new favorite edc, looking forward to your review.
Is D2 steel better than ctb1?
Hey I'm looking for a every day use self defense / opening stuff knife which do you recommend im just now seeing your video! Any of these 3 mentioned best one? Or any other recommendation;
Steel Will 1551 Mini Gekko
Benchmade 943
Cold Steel Broken Skull
Very interested in that steel will
Hope you test the Spyderco manix 2 lightweight Maxamet. It's priced 161.00 but it takes super steel to another level.
Warden Drew it is Maxamet numbers are awesome now testing to see real life.
Thanks for putting this video out! Now I know what knives to look at.
Paul Rogers no problem!
Hi Gideon. Thanks for the video! You had me mentioned food prep with the Cold Steel Broken Skull. Is there a problem with the black coating when cutting food? I was recently wondering about that.
David Fiorini no issues my friend
Best budget or semi budget sharpening system? I'm thinking about getting the ontario rat shown in this video and I want to spend about the same or less on sharpening stuff. I'm in Canada so I need to be able to order it in Canada, thanks.
EDIT: I'll get the rat if I can find it with D2. I want it to be able to hold an edge.
Firefly check my links in the description below these are my top ones
Thanks
Byrd Raven 2 is awesome, carrying mine almost everyday.
Steel Will Knives 1550 Gekko Mini 1550 Lockback CDN$ 252.99
+ CDN$ 9.95 shipping should I buy it ???
I really want to pick up one of those bokers
Kinda surprised that the HOB s35vn Kershaw Link didn't make it on this video.
muzeONE it really good, just not the top for the year
Love your reviews thanks again. My favorite edc this year (2016) same as last :
Spyderco: Manix 2 translucent blue..beefy leaf shaped blade with light weight and resistent
Spyderco, Endura (consistent since 94) the Endura model is awesome.

Benchmade Mchenry one of the best, love it...I have more but those are my frequent carry.
Why didnt you add the thin wolf that you highly recommenced in the neck knife sucks video? Great videos
ifell3 because these are only the knives are reviewed and 2016
why not spyderco?
Wade Carlson Be careful buying from Ebay. Clones are everywhere. Better purchase from Bladehq.com
Love your best of videos. I couldn't help but notice that the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 didn't make any of the lists though
are spyderco made in the usa?
Anthony Rampino some of the higher end ones are like the paramilitary are
Thank you Jackson.
@2:10 diggin the tactical flip flops..
You should look at ganzo knives. i have used the 720 for a while, and used it for everything from cooking to field dressing and batoning. it is an unbelievable knife that is under $25.
Great review sir. An even better review would be the Daniel Winkler Field Knife.
Good video, I like that you touch on different price points. If you haven't done one already I'd love to see you review the Viper Kyomi.
Thanks so much, I will look into it.
I just carry a good and cheap Ganzo!
this is what students need to have

Your thoughts?
No delica?
Kertys Moro It is an older knife, these are the knives for 2016
No ZT? They released some really good gear in 2016?
Thanks for all the videos man, thanks to your review I picked up a 1776 s35vn Kershaw Link last night!

I enjoyed watching the video brother!
ontario rat d2 steel is my overall favorite. the only benchmade i want ever is a 940 lol
the 940 is the bar setter for pocket knifes i own a lot and trust me the money is so worth it.
Love the video man I carry a bunchmade mini griptilian I’m about to get a Spyderco tenacious
Spyderco did a S30V titanium bolstered carbon fiber scaled folder, you should review more spyderco's! i really love spyderco and id love to hear someone's opinion like yours, I carry a VG-10 spyderco police every day

Seen lots of reviews for the rat in D2 but barely anything for the Avispa in D2.
beefyb93 the rat 1 and 2 will always be more popular than the avispas.. Just better all around
PkwyDrive13 Have had both. wouldn't say better all around. Action definitely better on the rats but avispa is lighter and thinner. also esee has the best warranty in the biz.
The Cold steel finn wolf??????????!
I own the Steel Will "Gekko" and love it.
Gary Horn awesome!
no House of Blades Kershaw Link special in this list? in my opinion, it's the best buy for 2016. s35vn steel for under $80?!? come on aaron!!
true awesome knife
Doublecanister4thUSArty i think he only includes permanent knifes, not special limited runs. I don't think he forgot.
Yeah, I was also surprised not to see it.
Great job, the Rat in D2 in my opinion is best value.
I understand the 1776 Link not making the list but thought the HOB Link might have... perhaps honorable mention as not the main release from Kershaw.
I can't believe the Z-hunter did not make this list.
I was eating a kiwi while watching lol great stuff man, keep up the work
Gracias por el vídeo. Muy útil
First knife looks hard to sharpen. Thumb stud looks as though it would get in the way and has stupid plunge line. Also bought 2 kershaws od1 and oso sweet and chinese one was better centered than USA made one. Mccusta from japan show their qc.What is with the plunge lines; make heel hard to sharpen or use.
bought 2012 a nice sanrenmu GB-913P,around 40€,similar size,at all pretty similar,also linerlock,!
cheap and works and works and works,no more expensive gerber or benchmade,300 € for a knife and you dare only to cut buns in a half!someone knows that stupid experience?but with a knife which is relative cheap, that was the point ,
where it made sense, even to have one!fuck these unnecessary expensive knifes!don't like to pay for the trademark!
do u even know sanrenmu?^^
Good list but totally missing BM crooked river
Good stuff
cold steel is a great company and i love and trust there products, but come on i am not going to pay 370$ for a 7 inch pocket knife.
good video
The broken skull is the best and I'm getting the oD green
Where's the Lionsteel KUR? Easily one of the best knives of the year.
Good knife selection. Go Benchmade, cause if it aint made in 'Merica...it aint made at all! haha. Im a Benchmade guy, own bunch of em, little more money but they are outstanding knives.
BUCK Marksman gets my vote - It's brilliant!
Really enjoyed watching, thanks for the vid!
Now everybody will be waiting for "best fixedblades of 2016".. at least I do... ;-)
Wartstein coming in a few days
Good news!
OMG!!! THE GEKKO IS 140$ ON AMAZON LMAO
Great video, love your reviews and your humble opinion... dude! No kershaw link S35VN?!?!?!?! You, me and everyone else loves that blade. I was shocked not to see it on the list. Maybe an honorable mentions? Haha
Giving you a hard time. I know it's tough to choose from so many options. Thanks for making these videos and be blessed brother.
