@ intro: Does your skin feel dry and cracked? Then don't play survival, but live with nature for a change. Leave off all the creams for your face and hands, air the house thoroughly three times a day for 5 min and cycle at least 10-12 miles every day, regardless of whether it's raining or snowing. The only exception is if there is so much snow that riding is really no longer possible, then jog half the distance! Plus a change in diet. Avoid highly processed foods. Instead, buy fresh fruit, vegetables and meat and cook for yourself. Cut out glutamate, sugar and salt completely and your body will reward you with unprecedented vitality after the detox! You can bet that within a year your skin will be juicy as a baby's bottom and will never crack or feel dry in the cold again!
I'm Filipino and I own several traditional Filipino blades, one of them is the Ginunting. It's really one hell of a blade and is perfect for bushwhacking and for the occasional home defense situation.
TFW is great. They have the widest selection of Filipino blades but at a price that won't make you cringe. I know its not exactly a Filipino origin blade but the TFW Kris designs are really great. I plan on buying one at some point.
@@MelissaBackwoods Hey, no worries about the pronunciation. Hey Melissa, if I can pique your interest in blades like these, please try looking at the Barong blade. It's a famous blade in my country and most people that own one, swear by its cutting power and practicality for bushcraft. I own one and I can vouch for it! Thanks for making great content as always, stay awesome!
Sword and machete tip, you don’t want a lanyard so much as a cord to wrap around your hand because you don’t want a blade that big flailing around if knocked or shocked out of your hand so having an ability to drop or retain it as you like is nice. Also, for fine carving put the handle in your armpit, edge up and you can use the tip in a really steady way for fine work since the blade is braced at both ends.
@MelissaBackwoods Absolutely. I mean honestly, the beauty of Filipino Martial Arts is what ever you do with an impact weapon can be done with a blade or empty hand. Minor tweaking of course.
Move to the Southeast. It's warm and humid almost all year round. No more dry skin or red eyes, but you do have to use hair conditioner regularly or hair gets frizzy from the humidity.
@JohnSmith-sb2fp I feel you about the hair kinking up! I have wavy/curly brown hair that goes bonkers in humidity. I keep it longish here at home in Colorado. But when I go somewhere humid...shaved to ground level or very short. It's just hair! It grows back.😁 Don't think that's much condolence to Mel with her seriously long beautiful hair.😋

1095 High Carbon steel yep sharpens like a razor but will rust. 1095 in my opinion 1 of the very best steels for forging and building knives. Happy polishing
Cool modern rendition of the ginunting! I’m a kali practitioner and I own several of the ginuntings issued to the Force Recon Marines. The main difference being they use spring steel and they’re all hidden tang. They’re fun to swing around.
I just got myself a small Böker knife the other day, but with our weird knife laws in Germany, I wouldn't even want to think about what would happen, if someone found you with that sword walking around 😀 That is a fierce looking beauty.
Shoutout to Condor knives- I love the Kephart full size and the Hudson's Bay knife. Nice to see new specialty field/bushcraft blades. Micarta is the most reliable grip material for cold wet or greasy hands.

Gotta be honest. Knifes were just knifes for me before I discovered this channel. I do realise now, that I actually love knifes and probably would buy some too. I like flipping knifes but they are absolutely forbidden in Switzerland😢
I've been in love with my Tops Alaska Harpoon for years and I'm on my 5th one? Sometimes I get drunk and give them away making sure another is on the way before I do so. Will order the Gallantry before spring. THREE HOURS LATER, so funny !! Merry Christmas !!
The great William E. Fairbairn, WW2 Combatives instructor, in his post-war career developed a long-blade combat knife he called "The Cobra" which was essentially a ginunting pattern though more extreme on the inverse curve and a little bit shorter than your long blade.
great review! the spirit seems to me more versatile. It could be sharpened like a slicer to deal with dry meat or carve wedges for buttoning. Thank you for share!
Thank you for introducing me to these. I really enjoy seeing Filipino blades. Next time you see Frank, see how he fares when slashed with the last three inches of that aggressive tip!

That's a pretty cool video I've been recently getting into knives more because I work in the food industry and I have to cut packages open and stuff like that so just getting into the knife game
Worth a try attaching lanyard to the _upper_ side of handle (or closest to handle part of steel). For machetes works like marvel. As for machetes - I'll never return back to normal lanyard attaching place :)
Melissa, Happy Holidays. Thank you for the outdoor demonstrations along with detailed personal input. It's more convincing when you can actually see the knives being used.
