    i have a little tip for ya. go to your local scrap metal recycling yards. most of them buy batteries, and some will even sell them to you as well. i use to find optmia batteries still in good working order for about $20 and you can find deep cycle batteries for a little more , my advise , go to harbor freight or similar place and get a battery tester that allows you to put a load on a battery and take that with you, some places may not let you into their yard but some will, , so just call around and see if they sell any scrap or batteries then go get you a couple of good ones for back up, on a good note, when the batteries go bad you can always go there and sell off your bad ones and maybe find a good one, hope this helps some of yall out there save some money, and good luck out on the water

    Nice boat man, great job. I'm on the fence about buying an old jon boat, but there's some deals to be had on older bass tracker pro's too. Saw one that was a bit beat up, but really just needed the deck replaced, for about $1000, was like a 1990 or something - ton of deals cropping up like that. However If I could pick up an old (but still much newer than an older tracker, ie like 2005) 14ft jon boat/motor for around 800$ though I'd probably do that instead though.

    • @philiplazaroski2185

    I have thought long and hard about doing this to my 12' Ouachita... But I'm concerned about the added weight and the fact that it gets a bit squirelly as it is if stand up in it.... Any advice?

    • @philiplazaroski2185
      @philiplazaroski2185  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My frame probably weighs about 70-80 pounds and I framed pretty robust, I would look into framing with aluminum if you have the budget. I framed with wood just because aluminum is pretty expensive and it might only save you like 10-15 pounds max because most of the weight is in the ply wood. When it comes to stability its really not that bad, I am a pretty small person so that helps just because I don't move the boat much. I have had two people fish on the deck and it isn't really that uncomfortable, as long as you pay attention and don't make big sudden movements it should be fine. also you should take the width of your boat into consideration.

    • @redhawk5229

    Since aluminum is thin and wouldn’t hold that seat in well if you just screwed right through the aluminum. How did you screw in your swivel seat?

    • @philiplazaroski2185
      @philiplazaroski2185  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The boat came with diamond plate to reinforce the aluminum (which worked fine), but replaced that with plywood. I used anchors that open to help the plywood grab, the seat mount itself is screwed into the plywood and a little into the aluminum.

      Jeb Reiser I would most certainly recommend going lower than the top. I have about 2 inches of space from the sides to the deck, which allows you to keep items on the deck without you kicking them off or them falling off as early.

    Hey great vid I’m abt your age and I’m about half through on mine and I have pretty much the same boat and I was wondering if your wood is rotting and if the carpet is in good condition. Also what kind of carpet did u use

    • @philiplazaroski2185
      @philiplazaroski2185  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had my boat long enough for the wood to rot, but i would definitely seal your plywood with an oil based sealant. the carpet is fine, I did worry about it ripping but it doesn't look like it will. The carpet I used was from home depot it comes in grey like mine or tan in a 6x8ft roll, I think its just called interior exterior carpet its about $20.

    • @philiplazaroski2185
      @philiplazaroski2185  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wood has not rotted because it is new and I sealed it with oil based enamel. I used from home depot that comes in a 8x6ft roll, the carpet has worn in a little bit, but no rips or tears yet.

    • @philiplazaroski2185
      @philiplazaroski2185  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the boat itself was $1200, I had most of the materials to make the deck but if I had to guess it would probably be between $250-$300. This includes stuff like carpet, wood sealer, glue, wood, bolts, foam, plywood, and gas pistons, depending on what you use it could be more or less. the floor already came with the boat so Im not sure how much that costs. For the motor and fish finder I was very lucky to have these items gifted to me second hand, but this is probably where you are going to spend the most.

    • @imdeported7841
      @imdeported7841 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shan Swinford If your boat somehow leaks or flips, it won’t sink with all the foam inside. That’s something I’m going to do with my boat soon because my friend lost his last year and we actually found it recently with a fish finder about 20 feet under water. I called up a buddy of mine with a bass boat and he dropped an a anchor next to it and was able to drag it into about 6 feet of water where we got in with a rope, tied it up, and then pulled it back up on the shore. Long story short we didn’t have to do that and we did it only because it was a challenge but trust me, you want foam in your boat, it’s harder than it seems pulling a small boat off the bottom of a lake. Foam will save your ass in the long run.

    • @davidwagner3182
      @davidwagner3182 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that the foam also is acts as a sound dampener as you move around the boat.
