      @colorado121 there’s about 50m of the 4 or 5 deck saucer at that area that got crushed. The phaser strips are near there and a bunch of escape pods are also located up there too. The aux deflector array also lives here too. Even at battle stations it would be a stretch to think no one would be in the front somewhere. Whilst just missing getting crushed, sick bay is about halfway between the bridge and the front so that’s getting a bit close for comfort for all the poor crewmembers currently injured.

    The movie was crap, but I'll say this, they did a really good battle sequence in this one. None of the ships were gimped on purpose for "drama" (like ST3, ST6, Generations, and Insurrection), and they show the full movement and capabilities of combat that we rarely see in the movies.

    • @LordDavid04
      @LordDavid04 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would have preferred to have seen 3 Romulan ships instead of just 2.
      Oh and I forgot to mention on my rant that there should have been a scene based on the Federation Council, where Ambassador Worf argues the merit of offering an olive branch to the Romulans. He should have been depicted as an Ambassador, wearing the appropriate attire, being on board the Enterprise specifically for the voyage to Batazed. Only changing to Starfleet uniform when Picard requests his reinstatement in Starfleet.

    • @trans8010
      @trans8010 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The Enterprise in III wasn't gimped like the D was in Generations. Kirk had no way of knowing of Klingon menace on route to Genesis, and once he was in the heat of conflict and the Enterprise crippled with no way back, did what he could to neutralize the threat. It was a last ditch effort to save his crew. Generations had an antiquated Klingon warbird overpower a Galaxy class starship and despite being able to fire a full barrage of torpedos and phasers at a single time at various parts of the series, could not do the same against this bird and with superior firepower couldn't penetrate their shields? Not only that but they had to struggle to move out of orbit. This was a sloppy continuity ignorant way of ending the D.

      Not sure I agree on this one... in a ship pretty much desiged to be able to take on combat duties, they mystically "ran out of torpedoes" just as they were starting to make some headway. We clearly saw that once enterprise was able to actually "see" the scimitar they could cause quite considerably impact in a short space of time. Only to run out of weapons because it suited the plot to do so. We didn't once get to see enterprise E actually kick ass like it was designed to.
      as you say, in insurrection, they spent more time running away and getting hit than just turning round and throwing down, which no doubt would have worked better. Ent E could have torn a hole through those son'a ships.

      @@trans8010 correct. The destruction of 1701-D had more to do with real-world concerns and studio executive decisions than anything else. The destruction of the original Enterprise was intended to provide an emotional impact to the story of TSFS.

    Oooh, the dune buggies and military vehicles that SHOULD have been in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier!
    The Scimitar itself was a mess, it should have been a more simpler looking ship. The back story should have been that this would have been the Romulans' ultimate weapon against the Dominion, but the war ended sooner than foreseen, so they simply shelved the project (fearing that their "allies" would find out and it would shift the balance in the Alpha Quadrant, or simply get them angry for not being notified).
    Shinzon rallies the support of the Remans and together they complete the ship, then of course stage the coup d'tat on Romulus.
    Ok, so they tried to explain how Shinzon is supposed to have become the doppelganger of Picard around the late TNG era. Well simply explain the fact that the Romulans gained a sample of Picard's DNA a Cardassian named Gul Madred. They used this to form Shinzon at the age of a child, where he would undergo training to prepare himself to become Picard. Temporal genetic engineering would have sped up the aging process, but of course this never happened due to the project being shelved. The child Shinzon was sent to Remus, as opposed to being killed (and therefore removing any trace of the failed project). He only regains some favor when he serves as a general during the Dominion War. The reason his life is failing of course is due to the fact that the so-called temporal genetic engineering never took place (or completed), Shinzon is simply deteriorating.
    The Romulan ships at the battle scene should have been 3! Ok, so you colour one brown to distinguish it from the one the Romulan leader is on, but by having 3, you can show 1 green lead ship, with 2 brown ones! Romulans usually arrive when not in a fleet, in 3!
    There should have been a flashback when Data fires on the main weapon (which was overtly complex to deploy anyways), showcasing a myriad of moments from TNG and the previous films, a montage, lasting 3-5 minutes, which of course Data experiences in the real-time countdown of a couple of seconds.
    The ending should have been the deleted scene, it would have been a light and fitting end to the whole movie.
    A decent ending to the TNG era, but it could have been much more.

    • @stanimirgeorgiev8596
      @stanimirgeorgiev8596 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +LordDavid04 Why did you mention Gul Madred? What does he have to do with anything? I didn't understand a single thing you said about the brown green three fleet leading romulan ships. A flashback of Data moments would have been total bullsh*t (especially one that lasts 5 MINUTES!). I agree with everything else, and I really like your proposal for the backstory of the Scimitar.

    • @LordDavid04
      @LordDavid04 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stanimir Georgiev
      Gul Madred in Chain of Command took a blood sample of Picard. The Romulans could have acquired this sample to begin producing their Picard clone.
      The 2 Romulan ships being green and brown (to identify the lead ship) could easily be avoided if it were 3 vessels (2 green and 1 brown lead ship). The use of 2 colours just seemed a little corny, we don't really need to differentiate the 2 ships, as most observant viewers can identify which is which anyways. But if it were a must, I would have gone with 3 Romulan ships.
      Data's flashback doesn't have to be 5 mins, but the general idea is that with the several seconds countdown, Data processes much of his memories. Perhaps it doesn't need to be 5 mins, but you get the general idea of a whole lifetime shown in what would be real time of several seconds.

    • @stanimirgeorgiev8596
      @stanimirgeorgiev8596 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LordDavid04 Now I understand why you mentioned Gul Madred.
      I never noticed that the Valdore/Norexan warbirds were coloured differently before. I understand why they coloured them differently - so that we can distinguish them, but I don't see the point inuniverse.
      I agree with you on Data's flashback.
      Thanks for the answer.

      Aloha732 You are worried for good reason.
      Already, we've seen
      -a bizarre and fugly lightsaber
      -a weird podracer thingy that bears his trademark boxiness and needlessly large proportions,
      -the fact that he decided to make the dish on top of the Millenium Falcon a weird and ugly rectangular shape instead of it's far more attractive rounded original.
      In a world where so many directors get everything wrong about movies except pretty CGI, he has the bizarre tendency to get the a lot of the difficult stuff right (casting, good performances from actors), but totally drops the ball on the lowest hanging fruit stuff that there is -- like making something pretty.
      He's a deeply, deeply frustrating director. I wish he'd stop making big special effects flicks and go back to his roots and do something like Alias again. THAT was what he was good at.

    • @wyoboy01
      @wyoboy01 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryeguy123a Ewww, he did change the Millennium Falcon's dish. I didn't notice that before. Yuck. It never ceases to amaze me personally how one slight change can ruin something iconic and yet directors, highly talented, praised, and PAID directors make those changes. And what's with that stupid lightsaber anyway? One wrong move and one of those little light things goes right in him. I like the new Stormtrooper helmets, I like the look of the X-Wings, otherwise everything looks older, including that pod thing you were talking about. People complain about the prequels but if there's one thing George Lucas got 100% right, it was that everything looked great.

      @@pooppoop6546 Voyager's armor technology from the future allowed them to replicate ablative armor in real time during combat. Presumably, as the topmost layer of armor was destroyed, a replacement layer would be replicated instantly its place. The Enterprise E was covered in multiple layers of ablative armor far more enduring than standard Starfleet duranium-tritanium armor (which itself was extremely strong), but could not be replaced after it was destroyed except by lengthy repairs or a visit to a starbase.

    Reman Warbird Scimitar versus Super Star Destroyer! Who would win? I'm betting my money on the Reman Warbird Scimitar winning because she is much faster and more maneuverable, heavily armed with 52 pulse Disruptor banks, 27 photon torpedo bays, heavily shielded [if one shield eventually fails another takes over], has a hanger bay full of hundreds of Scorpion attack fighters, equipped with a cloaking device (The Scimitar's cloaking technology was, in the words of Geordi La Forge, "perfect." It emitted no tachyons and left no residual anti-protons, the two ways that a cloaked ship could be tracked and located. Thus, when cloaked, the Scimitar was virtually impossible to find. Only a chance hit by an opposing ship's weapons or by targeting where the Scimitar's shots came from could reveal its location, temporarily disrupting the cloak. The Scimitar could even deploy its weapons and deflector shields and travel at high warp speeds while cloaked, actions which, with less-advanced cloaking technology, necessitated de-cloaking or reduced the effectiveness of cloaking. Its maximum warp factor when cloaked was more than that of Starfleet's Sovereign-class starship.) and is also equipped with a very powerful/deadly Thalaron cascading biogenic pulse weapon that can wipe out organic lifeforms on a ship or onto a planet.

    • @Acrosurge
      @Acrosurge 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I answered to your above question regarding the Scimitar vs an Imp Star Destroyer. The outcome here is the same, with or without Scimitar's deadly cloak/fire/shield abilities. The Scimitar would simply decimate the SSD from outside the Imperial command ship's range. The battle is even shorter if the Scimitar decides to attack the SSD's bridge deflector shields, which Trek ship sensors are more than advanced enough to detect.

    • @Acrosurge

      That would not be a fight, but a slaughter. The Scimitar wouldn't even need its ability to fire and shield while cloaked or half its weapons (52 disruptors, 27 torpedo photon/plasma torpedo launchers). The firepower, shield defenses, maneuverability, and weapon range advantage of Federation-peer ships is way too much for Imperial starships to match.
      In my opinion, the Scimitar would destroy the Star Destroyer before the Imperials could get in range or scramble fighters.

      The scimitar can fire its thalaron and firing it's thalaron weapon while cloaked would killed everyone on the star destroyer. It's weapon was designed to kill everyone on a planet. So it would win. Remember he wanted Picards blood that's the only reason why the enterprise survived. They needed an Achilles heel in the film So that TNG good guys would find a way to win. The only 1 who would maybe survive that might be dark helmet himself. He wears his black hazmat suit. But his breathing makes me think that he may have coronavirus. They say it effects your breathing and your ability to move. I've never seen him run. And maybe his suit was to protect others.
      But with everyone else now dead. Destroying the star destroyer would be just a matter of time. A Star treks Scimitar Win.

    as disappointing of a send off and movie this was (even back in the days when I watched it at 7-8) they did a fantastic job with the models, textures and battle scenes. It's exactly like a dog fight in the wars or something, except in space! The models are in fact the best in the star trek series, and I dont just say that because it's a more modern one, because imo it's even better than star trek 11-13
    while I do agree, like that of star trek VI, I do wish the TNG crew could've had one more movie and chance for a great send off, but it was not so. However knocking Abrams is stupid, just because the ships dont look like they used to (get used to the times) doesn't mean it's bad. In fact he's kept the design of the Enterprise A, made a lot more modern and better looking than the ugly TOS Enterprise (non TOS movies at least) rebooted the series with many emotional and groundbreaking scenes and did a good job making a wrath of Khan remake, but in a modern and in some ways, darker concept.
    Abrams has kept a lot of the old things we love in star trek, but modernised it and added a few of his own touches (fairly minor ones) so what do you have to whine about?
    Either way, Picard and his crew will always be in my heart, just like Cisco, Arrow, Janeway and both Kirk timeline's crew. They truly are legendary in their own way

      I was really disappointed with how they treated the Enterprise in the Abrams movies, we never got any real space battles and they simply destroyed it for the sake of having it as a plot device.

    Hi, I've just watched all your TNG movies (ships only), just wanted to say I love them, I've always wanted to see a video of just the ships from these movies, as I really only watch for the ships anyway. So thanks for a bit of wish fulfilment ! Great work with the editing, must have taken hours !!

    Good lord that Scimitar was the goofiest, clunkiest, kit-bashiest ship ever. I wish they had thought of a more original design rather than recycling a jem'hadar battleship design and sticking spines and fins and protrusions all over it.

    I hate to say this, but I don't really care much for the Enterprise-E. I feel like I'm going to Gre'thor for saying that.

    Controversial I know, but I think the Enterprise E looks like sin. Never liked the underside of the saucer, the way the nacelles just pertrude from the ship like oblong spikes, how frankly scary and bulky the stern of the saucer section is... None of it

    Since I was a kid I have always loved Star Trek, but the latest rendition - Discovery, I am going to avoid. I've been put off by Hollywood productions in recent years ever since they started becoming more about preaching PC and social justice ideology. They should just tell a story, not a political message. I fear that Discovery will contaminate my lifetime of sentiments about what made Star Trek great.
