Sir Barry, ever humble, never misses an opportunity to make sure his brothers get their proper credit for the amazing music he was a part of writing. Love this man!
I caught that too.....when he said my brothers. Sir Barry NEVER forgets to give his brothers credit for their contributions to their song writing. He's a GREAT man!!
On some of the songs I have to let myself adjust to a new take/ voice blend because in my mind I am hearing the brothers Robin Maurice and Barry. That wouldn't bring me to give a thumbs down but I need to let it grow on me. Dolly is so loveable.
What strikes me is that Dolly and Barry are both now in their 70s, and one of the sad by-products of being a survivor is that so many of their contemporaries - Robin and Maurice (and also Andy); Kenny Rogers, and so many others - are no longer around. It’s got to be a bittersweet experience for them to be performing these songs this way.
I think it is part of the healing process. Barry's album is just so excellent. I am very happy for him . His brothers would be so proud! Thank you to Barry and all his duet partners for doing such an amazing job!!!
The saddest part is Barry was the oldest. He survived three brothers, Andy dying WAY too young. But that has to hurt. To be the oldest and yet outlive all of them. Dolly has older and younger siblings, and not too many have died yet.
They are survivors. Being a survivor, you have to do things that make you happy. In revisiting songs & remembering loved ones, you are keeping their memory alive, honoring them & keeping your life enriched by including all you were privileged to know.

After Morris and then Robin left us I stopped singing and listening to The Bee Gees songs. It was just too much for me, especially seeing what it took out of Barry. Now, after watching this, a new fire has started in me to listen to and sing the most beautiful poems, stories and history immortalized by some of the greatest artists ever to walk this earth. This is so true. Dolly, for all her fame and fortune, has never forgotten where she came from and shares herself so generously. Down to earth describes her best, as it does Sir Barry.

These songs had such an impact and still do. Truly good music that will never go out of style. Just a listen and I am transported in time. Words cannot describe the feelings evoked of a time past. I met Dolly by happen stance once, she is as nice as can be, doesn't act bothered by someone recognizing her, and is happy to talk to anyone who does. And like with me, she'll ask where you're from, what do you do for a living, your family, background, etc., the kind of things you don't expect a person if her "status" to ask a common everyday Joe. She genuinely enjoys hearing about people and where they come from, and who they are.

Islands in the Stream with Kenny and Dolly was always a favorite. I'm even more impressed that Barry Gibbs wrote that song. A song is beautiful when it can convey an emotion, goosebumps or tears. I'm a crier, commercial on TV, a movie I've seen several times or a song like Bring Him Home from Les Miserables are beautiful moments in time. Thank you Barry for so much great music. Second of all, in such a time of uncertainty, when cities are in lockdown, loved ones are ill or have died, people are out of business, people are exhausted and don't know how to pay their bills, afraid of the possibility that they will have to give up their dreams and everything they have worked hard for, these actors think it it is APPROPRIATE to get together and sing Kumbaya while they do so from their cozy, warm mansions. They tell us to "imagine no possessions, it's easy if you try". How condescending. I didn't see Barry Gibb or all the greats (who at least can back it up with the pipes) doing that. They really demonstrated a real lack of humility, when what they should have done was sit down and shut up. They did this in the middle of a global pandemic. When nobody gives a shit what they have to say about anything, they think they are going to do the world a service and ease our pain with their insightful musical abilities (more like "inabilities"). I would love to see Barry in concert. A small venue like Artpark In Lewiston, NY would be perfect. An interview on tv indicates that Barry said he would perform concerts if people wanted to see him. Of course, he has many fans age 65 plus that would love to see him.

I remember when I was a schoolgirl back in the sixties. We had a wonderful music teacher who allowed us to bring our favourite singles to school. My favourite song was "Words" and the whole class and our teacher listened. This song touches my heart till today. Seeing Barry and Dolly performing "Words" together is so heartwarming.

After Morris and then Robin left us I stopped singing and listening to The Bee Gees songs. It was just too much for me, especially seeing what it took out of Barry. Now, after watching this, a new fire has started in me to listen to and sing the most beautiful poems, stories and history immortalized by some of the greatest artists ever to walk this earth. You Sir, will always be my favorite composer.

Thanks so much for posting that link, the impromptu performance of Coat of Many Colors. I probably would never have run across it otherwise. I met Dolly by happen stance once, she is as nice as can be, doesn't act bothered by someone recognizing her, and is happy to talk to anyone who does. And like with me, she'll ask where you're from, what do you do for a living, your family, background, etc., the kind of things you don't expect a person if her "status" to ask a common everyday Joe. She genuinely enjoys hearing about people and where they come from, and who they are.
a lifelong fan since I bought 1st in 1967. saw the MSG performance when Sat Night Fever hit. Saw Andy at Bottom Line 1977. My fave album remains Horizontal [never got the recognition it deserves]. Couldn't be happier to see Barry still doing it and getting the attention this towering figure of the 20th century [and beyond!] deserves.

Islands in the Stream with Kenny and Dolly was always a favorite. I'm even more impressed that Barry Gibbs wrote that song. A song is beautiful when it can convey an emotion, goosebumps or tears. I'm a crier, commercial on TV, a movie I've seen several times or a song like Bring Him Home from Les Miserables are beautiful moments in time. Thank you Barry for so much great music. @@deshaunx776 Ok let me break it down for you lol...first of all, they are self centered enough to think that anyone wants to hear their terrible singing. They act, they don't sing. Second of all, in such a time of uncertainty, when cities are in lockdown, loved ones are ill or have died, people are out of business, people are exhausted and don't know how to pay their bills, afraid of the possibility that they will have to give up their dreams and everything they have worked hard for, these actors think it it is APPROPRIATE to get together and sing Kumbaya while they do so from their cozy, warm mansions. They tell us to "imagine no possessions, it's easy if you try". How condescending. I didn't see Barry Gibb or all the greats (who at least can back it up with the pipes) doing that. They really demonstrated a real lack of humility, when what they should have done was sit down and shut up.
They did this in the middle of a global pandemic. When nobody gives a shit what they have to say about anything, they think they are going to do the world a service and ease our pain with their insightful musical abilities (more like "inabilities"). Yes...I think that was stupid.

I would love to see Barry in concert. A small venue like Artpark In Lewiston, NY would be perfect. An interview on tv indicates that Barry said he would perform concerts if people wanted to see him. Of course, he has many fans age 65 plus that would love to see him.

I remember when I was a schoolgirl back in the sixties. We had a wonderful music teacher who allowed us to bring our favourite singles to school. My favourite song was "Words" and the whole class and our teacher listened. This song touches my heart till today. Seeing Barry and Dolly performing "Words" together is so heartwarming.
