i actually restarted my crochet adventure in 2016 with amigurumi. (i first learned to crochet when i was 10 or so, my mum taught me to chain and slipstitch, but she didn't remember anything else, and this was just about before youtube launched, and searching for anything like video tutorials or even written tutorials on the internet didn't occur to me, so i figured out single crochet on my own with *nothing* to base it on. so the extent of my skills was making nets of chains or just lengths of chain i'd use as strings, or tiny little rectangles of single crochet that i used as polly pocket doll blankets and scarves.) i was in my 20s when i joined a group that crocheted amigurumi octopi for premies in incubators, the idea being that the twisted tentacles of the octopi would remind the babies of the umbilical chord (which is a baby's first toy pre-birth), and the mum could cuddle the little octopus first before putting it in the incubator with the baby, to transfer scent. it was only many months later that i started crocheting things *other* than amigurumi octopi and started learning things like double crochets and reading graphic patterns. i found octopi to be a *very* simple project, because there was really nothing complicated, no weird shaping or having to follow a pattern line by line and at my fastest it took me about 2h to crochet an octopus (out of fingering cotton, 2.5mm crochet)

I tried amigurumi once, it was a tiny whale and very cute but i lost my patience making the tail. I also am a person who doesn't really like having stuff in my house that has no "use" if that makes sense? I live in a tiny apartment and I don't have much space, so I wouldn't know what to do with stuffed animals/creatures!
