    Will always be their best Console Wars BECAUSE it's so sloppy and unorganized lol. Feels like two friends just having fun arguing about a game over some beers, and that's charming.

    The Nintendo/Sega war was a very exciting time for gamers. You either had a Sega Genesis (which I had) or a Snes at home and check the other console at your friend's. Love you guys for keeping that era alive. Keep going!

    Sega didn't make a "port" because the arcade version was licensed to Nintendo by Konami. Konami made Hyperstone Heist exclusively for Sega. There was no reason Genesis/Megadrive wouldn't be able to handle an arcade port. (Given a decent amount of time to properly code the game) Yes, the Genesis could handle the "mode 7" or "scaling" effects the SNES used. The main difference would be an inferior color palette, however H.Heist looks fantastic as is. Oh and the music was top quality as well.

    • @critchblackpoolful
      @critchblackpoolful 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      hahaha no it couldn't how many Sega games have mode 7 graphics?? no speech....... because the sound (mostly) was inferior on MD ports

    • @samdroidva
      @samdroidva 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Mode 7 is nothing more than Sprite Scaling. The SNES had built in hardware features that made it easier for game developers to utilize scaling effects in their games. Sega could do the exact same thing, but it would have to be coded in by a talented developer. I don't know the exact number, but the Genesis/MD had quite a few games that showcased some awesome scaling effects. Contra Hard Corps, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Mega Turrican and some Sega Sports Titles are only a handful that come to mind.

    • @critchblackpoolful
      @critchblackpoolful 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +samdroidva it's very rare a Sega game outshines a SNES game in graphics when they make the same game

    • @BIGGIEDEVIL

      Genesis can't do mode 7 !

    • @feliscorax
      @feliscorax 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +BIGGIEDEVIL
      +Daniel Critchley
      The Sega Mega Drive doesn't *need* to do mode 7 - that is, as +samdroidva has already stated quite clearly, mode 7 was a hardware feature specifically built into the SNES, whereas on the Sega Mega Drive, the system architecture was more than capable of reproducing these effects through software processing without the need for a hardware feature.
      Faster processing, combined with more memory bandwidth, means a developer who knew how to make the most of the Sega Mega Drive's capabilities could reproduce those effects - and on top of that, the base Sega Mega Drive hardware's capabilities are so good in fact that Nintendo had to develop the FX Chip just to surpass its default 3D and polygon fill rates (and they only just achieved that, too).
      The Sega Mega Drive more than held its own against Nintendo's SNES, which is quite an impressive feat given the Sega Mega Drive was first released in 1988 compared to the SNES' launch in 1991, and is why I consider the Sega Mega Drive to be one of the greatest (if not *the* greatest) consoles ever made. Generally speaking, if a game was made for both systems, and the SNES outclassed the Sega Mega Drive's in terms of graphics, it's because of other variables such as lazy ports, poor programming, and the like - not whatever marginal hardware differences existed between the two systems. Here's a link to a helpful technical comparison:

      The combat is better, but graphics/sound/presentation was quite inferior, also not as chaotic as the 4 players arcade with 8+ enemies on screen. Turtles in Time is just a party game for me, so i prefer the arcade

      Agreed. The SNES is way better than the Arcade version. The Arcade version was just a quarter muncher. The SNES version was actually fair, playable, and more fun because of it. Better graphics and animations doesn’t make a game better. Gameplay does, and SNES has it over the Arcade, IMO

    I genuinely find the Genesis music in Konami games to be better (or at least more enjoyable) than their SNES counterparts. Konami was way into those orchestra hits, which work well to accent the music, but not as part of the main melody, which they'd often do in their SNES games. Also, the staccato and abrupt 1/8 notes Konami used in the soundtrack of Turtles in time for tare jarring. That said, you really can't go wrong with either soundtrack.

      Same game. Besides, Streets of Rage 2 trumps Hyperstone any day, as that beat 'em up DOMINATED the Genesis, not to mention the genre itself. Of course, I think you would agree if it wasn't for Final Fight or Double Dragon, there wouldn't be beat 'em ups, let alone any Turtles games to boot, and we'd be stuck with the crappy NES game, and that... would be a horrific thought, in and of itself.
      Still, Hyperstone is the same as Turtles in Time.

    I have & enjoy both games.
    TMNT: The HyperStone Heist actually has some elements from the original Arcade game.
    -The sewer areas in level 1 (the design looks similar to the 2nd area of level 2 of the 1st Arcade game)
    -Rocksteady
    -Dr. Baxter Stockman as a human riding in that hover device releasing Mousers
    -A car that pulls out & tries to run you over in the street area of level 1
    -The portal to Dimension X that Krang comes out of, but I kind of think Krang in TMNT: The HyperStone Heist is a combination of both the original Arcade game & Turtles in Time
    Because of those, I said that the Sega Genesis could've easily gotten a 16-bit version/port of the 1st Arcade game & it would've looked great.
    Did I miss anything?
    It's cool that TMNT: The HyperStone Heist has a boss like Master Tatsu & the Shredder's Hideout level (both missing from TMNT: Turtles in Time), but Turtles in Time (on Super Nintendo at least) has Slash & even Tokka & Rahzar as well as futuristic levels.
    Overall, I prefer TMNT: Turtles in Time more, mainly because it's longer.
    It just sucks that neither game comes equipped with a 4 player mode.
    I know Super Nintendo had a multi-tap, but I don't know if Sega Genesis did.

I feel like the sega version is faster which I really like and the dash button makes a huge difference imo. This comparison ignored some things. For example, The turtles have more color detail on their shells on the Genesis. Also, the music sounds closer to the arcade version of TIT.

  • @TheRavenArchon
    @TheRavenArchon 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    It should be noted the SNES version isn't a direct port of the arcade game. It added a level (technodrome) several bosses from the cartoon (rat king, Rocksteady and Bebop, Slash the Turtle) heavy use of the mode 7 system to do the revamped hoverboard level in the future and the screen-tossing ability, and it allowed you to do the screen toss and the back and forth slam attack at-will using button commands rather than simply randomly (and they had an effect on the game cause they gave more kill points than a normal kill, so more extra lives earned if you got good at them).
    I love hyperstone heist. Some things about it I like more than Turtles in Time. But the lack of on demand special attacks (meaning you just hit stuff over and over with less strategy) and the tinny sound to the music and sound effects (especially hit sounds) on the genesis lead me to favor Turtles in Time.

      Hyperstone Heist: A t t a c k s
      ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
      Combo Attack: Hammer the A button and your turtle of choice will perform a
      combo of sorts. You will hit the enemy a couple of times with
      your weapon, before knocking the enemy to the floor, usually
      killing them. Though this is the most basic attack, it is also
      the most effective.
      Rising Kick: Press B and quickly press A and you will perform a rising kick.
      This isn't a particularly strong attack, but it is good for
      knocking enemies to the ground so that you can concentrate on
      others. Use this when surrounded by big crowds of enemies because
      you can't easily be hit whilst performing it.
      Flying Kick: Similar to the Rising Kick, jump and press A a little later. The
      turtle will shoot straight to the ground and perform a flying
      kick. This is performed a lot quicker than the Rising Kick,
      though it isn't particularly powerful.
      Charge : Press C and either left or right to make your turtle run. Press
      A and the turtle will shoulder charge an enemy. Though you may
      think this is a powerful attack, it really isn't. My advice is to
      avoid using it, because it is of little use.
      Front Flip : Press C and start running. Press B and your turtle will perform
      a front flip. Use this to evade large groups of enemies. This is
      an okay move, but the flying or rising kicks are better options.
      Special : Press A and B together and your turtle will perform their special
      attack. This is a strong move, usually killing your foe in one or
      two hits. However, there is a major drawback to this attack.
      Every time you attack an enemy, a few bars of your own health
      will be depleted. Use a few of these in quick succession and your
      health will soon be drained. For this reason I would advise that
      you avoid this technique at all cost.
      Smash : The smash attack is one you won't use very often. If you hit an
      enemy once, then move close to them and press A again, sometimes
      you will perform the smash. When this happens the enemy will
      stick to the end of your weapon while you smash them back and
      forth, side to side. Any other enemies that are in the way will
      be harmed by this. However, you should avoid doing this while
      you are near Purples and Oranges as you can easily be harmed by
      either projectile attacks.

      I agree with all of what you say except the when you say Hyper Stone Heist involves less Strategy. I think Hyper Stone Heist plays smoother than Turtles in Time. The turtles are more responsive and they move faster. Hyper Stone Heist is harder than Turtles in Time. The CPU is a little more aggressive and you have to use more strategy to beat the bosses because their moves seem to have better priority and you are punished for your mistakes more because the CPU seems to have more diverse Attack Patterns with their various of moves. I felt that in Turtles in time for most of the bosses you could get away with wailing on them and I had to think less about the things I did in a boss fight than in Hyperstone Heist. Because of all of this I think the stat advantages and diss advantages of the turtles are more crucial and meaningful when selecting them, meaning Raph being most fast but weaker, Don being slower and having larger reach and Leo and Mike being middle ground Turtles with their idiosyncrasies are more meaningful in Hyper Stone Heist than in Turtles in Time.

    Both of these games are great. Turtles in Time is based off the arcade machine with a few exclusive levels for SNES, Hyperstone Heist is based off the SNES version. Both games are not ripoffs of the other because they were both made by Konami. Both games are as good as Konami wanted to make them. Bottom line, Play them both. I personally like them both so both win. Debate over. BOYAKASHA!

    The SNES definitely won all round here. Of course the arcade was the best and it had 4 players but as a port it was definitely the best until the MAME on a Disks scene came out on the PS, PS2, PS3 and PS4 and all the other systems powerful enough to have MAME on a Disk ports from the era.

This is a great example of owning both is better than picking one.

    I would give gameplay to Genesis. The dash button being assigned to C helps a lot more than you might think. I find it gives more control and makes it quicker/easier to perform dash attacks, which are the three most useful attacks to pull off. You can do them in the SNES, but not quite as easily as the Genesis. Throwing enemies into the screen is a) kind of random(ish) and b) only has use for one screen in the game. The extra dash control is useful for every single screen except maybe bosses. Other than that, SNES beats Genesis all day, if only bc of it being an arcade port

    For those who just watched some ignorant videos like " AVGN Snes vs Genesis" this information: contrary to popular belief Genesis is more powerfull then Snes. It has a processor that runs 7.6 MhZ while Snes's processor runs 3.6 Mhz. So it's faster more then twice. Genesis also can handle much more sprites - so it can show better visual effects and can show more stuff on the screen at once. It has more bandwith DMA (capable of better animation), faster overall cpu resource. Now U got it?

Altought in most ports of the exact game for both consoles, the sound for snes is better(especially since capcom and probe never did a great job with the sound chip for MD), when you look at the music made by guys like Yuzo Koshiro, Tommy Tallarico, Jesper Kyd, Tokuhiko Uwabo and Hitoshi Sakamoto, the history changes a bit.I personally love the heavy drums and bass for the MD.

    Love going back and watching these old vids of you guys. That said, I agree Tint has the edge but only slightly. Hyperstone imo has the better sound and gameplay, run button makes ALOT of difference in how agile you can be on command( dont you dare tell me to just double tap forward, its not reliable and you know it). Also the shared tracks are sped up on genesis giving the tunes a more hard rock edge, simply put the songs sounded better on genesis this isnt even a debate imo. Its a polished and streamlined experience that gets right to the point with 5 stages split in 2 parts. TINT has more content and is far more experimental with its mode 7 (this leads to some cheap deaths though, and that shredder fight feels tacky and forced and serves only as a graphical flex). Both are easy to just pick up and play and on their own are the the best beat em ups on their respective systems.
