This isn't a note against the SNES or whatever but more so on the opinion on bigger characters are better...that always leaves less visibility to the level. Yes okay greater detail but it seems to get in the way of gameplay. That said, I wasn't even aware of a SNES X-men game...Well, there's something I'll be trying later.
Not only that, but having a bigger character makes you a bigger target and makes platforming more imprecise. Plus, having them look ridiculous and anatomically incorrect isn't exactly top-notch artistry...unless that's what you're going for.
I love that era for Capcom. The sound and music are iconic; nothing wrong with them. Mega Man X leftovers or not, they're terrific. Sega's is fine, as well, it's all very "Sega".
You're actually thinking of the first X-men game. the only way to get to the final level was to reset the system or else its game over. that was not fun.

hello friends , I see your videos often , I'm from Brazil , I have a very small channel. They are well known for retrogamer public , and are well respected. Congratulations For the quality of videos and humor! Here in Brazil the super nintendo and sega genesis are very famous , mega drive sells today. both systems are very dear , but in general people prefer the super nintendo . the battle of these systems is very strong here today , and always generates heated discussions .
This one is a hard one, graphically Nintendo wins but the Gens was just faster, more fluid, and overall more enjoyable. The XMEN game for the SNES feels kind of like Batman Forever on the home console. It looked so great but was a Street Fighter plat former with terrible mechanics. Genesis Wins!!!!
Even though I grew up a Nintendo fan, I gotta give credit to X-men 2 Clone Wars. When I played the Snes version, it felt too much like a street fighter/megamanx/beat-em-up and the characters felt slow and clunky. There's something about the Sega versions that make it feel more gritty, and the movement is more fluid once you get used to it. The fighting also doesn't seem overdone, where it's just sitting at a screen waiting for you to beat up a certain amount of enemies before letting you continue. When it comes to super powers, I gotta give it to clone wars. Each character had their own set of mutant power moves. I.E Wolverine could use his claws to climb walls and ceilings, psylocke could wall jump, but nightcrawler and beast could do all sorts of stuff on walls. You could also play Magneto after defeating him and he had some really cool stuff like hovering. I think that the Snes version is a little better than the original Sega Xmen game (which is also good), but Clone wars makes up for with gameplay types and character control/movesets in what it lacks in cutscenes and character select screen graphics.
Aw yeah man, everytime i hear Mutant apocalypse soundtrack, i get an instant eargasm... oh what? sega's sound is better? oh right... sega has to win something... but why in sound? :(
because x-men 2 on genesis is a juggernaut in the music department. snes had a couple cool tunes, but not in the same league as the genesis counterpart.
@@smegg9676 Yah, Sega version is way better with Clone Wars. The overall gameplay and controls are way better on the Sega. The playable characters and such make up for what the Sega lacks in my own personal opinion. I'm a SNES fanboy and heavily prefer Clone Wars over Mutant apocalypse. You can also run in the Genesis version which makes it way more intense gameplay. SNES version is really slow in comparison.
You forgot to mention that the Sega game had Magneto; exclusive to da' Genesis. But then, these earlier videos were not as detailed as the recent ones. 😜
The graphics are more impressive on the genesis,a lot more visual effects like parallel axes and particles, and a 2 player mod(a lot more sprites on the screen)
No good music on Mutant Apocalypse??? LOL Psylocke theme is one of the best tunes of the 16 bit era! And you can set to auto the special moves on the options menu but it's much more fun doing yourself!
as an xmen fan i enjoyed both of them a lot. this can be easily a draw. since both have pros and cons and in the final outcome, both are even. i rather genesis version. since nintendo had better graphics, sound, presentation and technology. nintendo version doesnt have the fun factor and flexibility of genesis. plataformer and fast paced action was better for me. nintendo was very slow paced. just because you only press a button to use the mutant power doesnt mean it is straight foward and doesnt mean it doesnt have a variety. when you press power button or attack button plus direction, you can direct your mutant power to any 8 directions, something it is expected when using a mutant power, nintendo didnt had that. also for some characters you can charge your mutant power to have a different outcome, adding to variety. the sega guy missed those factors. 2 player was a big plus, yes it could be tedious but a word that defines the xmen is "team work" and you had to coordinate with your parther to success which also was part of the game despite this parte could have been improved. also for nintendo having the same roster except nightcrawler was mortal sin for me. nightcrawler add a lot in the fun factor.
Yea without a doubt and me being a snes pusher when it comes to quantity of games. Genises proves sometimes quality and attention to lore is much better
@@willeysingleton3057 Well said. Also a SNES type of person growing up, but always enjoyed playing SEGA games on the Genesis. Clone Wars was a bit of a hidden gem for me because I had rented Mutant Apocalypse and was disappointed. When I first played Clone Wars, I was completely shocked at how I missed such a great game. It really captures the mood of the comics back in the 90's.
Jubilee's powers sucked in the cartoon, but was far better in the comics. She lost control ones and blew a guy up with her powers once. Awesome. Too bad they had to turn her into a generic Vampire. Lame.
I never played the SNES version, so I dont know if its like those games where you choose a character and then stick with them for the rest of the game. But the genesis version you can choose different character in between stages. They should add that on the gameplay part. Sure is just press the button "boring" thing, but the variety of characters keeps the game awake.
+avideogamemaster It's like spider-man and the x-men game. First there's individual stages. Then you can choose. And it's a pretty easy game and not that long either. I think it's psylocke that can beat the game easy.
I thought that we established in the power rangers video that side scrolling beatem ups that have controls like a fighting game don't work very well. Or am I the only one that remembers that?
Yeah, Nintendo may have won this Console War, but he lost the Mutant Power contest. LOL Seriously, I do own both these games, while I love "X-Men 2:Clone Wars", there's something more about "Mutant Apocalypse". Also, I think we can agree on one thing, Psylock was way hotter on SNES! 😍🔥❤
2:24 Self induced hemorrhoids, what a cool power! Ha, ha! I do like X-Men 2 quite a lot, it has a unique gameplay presentation although it is difficult.
genesis fanboys find every single genesis video and go nuts. seriously find one video they don't come in forcing their blind opinions when they clearly won't give any snes game a chance. maybe play it for 2 minutes with hate in their heart mad the whole time and turn it off. come on, give both systems a chance fanboys. mutant apocalypse is just more fun, and actually beatable(tough, but fair, and really fun) i beat it straight through no passwords once, and i'm not a very skilled gamer (i just learned the levels and finally did it all in one go. aint happenin on the maze nightmare sega game)
@giftofgab247 I can personally say that I grew up with NES/SNES etc (somewhat a fanboy) but still played Genesis at a few friend's houses and enjoyed it. The mature audience would argue that both systems have their perks. The younger ones (who probably didn't actually play it when it was first released) are the ones who take heavy offense (or perhaps dilusional people...). If you are referring to "Smash" as Smash TV, then yes, the controller setup is a big deal for the SNES. On that topic, you'd also probably have to buy a 6 button if you weren't lucky enough to buy the console later in it's lifespan when it came with one. That means extra money that the SNES covered first launch. Thats an issue with multiple Genesis games; the 6 button is a bit of a crutch because people had to pay more money to take advantage of it, and not all games catered to that upgrade. I can easily say some games for both consoles that are amazing in comparison to the other: 1. Genesis in my opinion is better with Clone Wars, Robocop vs. Terminator, Judge Dredd, and some others like say, Jurassic Park (all of these games are probably harder on the Genesis, but overall, the games i feel are better, being it in atmosphere, or ambience/music, input precision, etc. There are games on the Genesis that didn't even come out for SNES. Some of those are amazing too. I.E. Rocket Knight Adventures, Eternal Champions, etc. 2. On the SNES, you could say that the exclusives are really amazing: Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong Country, etc. Games like Battletoads, Turtles in Time, and maybe even MK II are better. This isn't to say that the other version is garbage. In fact, I liked playing MK1 and 2 on the Genesis as much as I did on the SNES for various reasons. 3. There are some games that are both different games and great games. I.E. Castlevania and Contra series, SFII is really close on both versions and I like them both equally. It's too bad there aren't more people who could vouch for what kind of time this was back in the 90's when the companies were still going back and forth. There are so many things that fall short in newer comparisons. Things that only people would know if they were around at the time. Perfect example. Resolution. Sure, the Genesis NOW looks considerably better in terms of resolution on a HD tv, but back when CRT tv's were around (and no HD tv's yet), the difference was virtually indestinguishable unless you had a larger TV (which would probably be around 27 inches if you were lucky or larger if you were rich. At that point, it was still the same low resolution of like 480 by 320 or something like that. Laughable standards today, for sure.
x-men 2 clone wars is way better and its not even close i played through both recently and at a younger age. Im a huge fan of x-men so these were 2 games that i have to play everytime i fire up the systems but the biggest difference is the snes version felt like a chore to play and the genesis version was more difficult to complete but you feel more in control of the mutants and their powers. so in my opinion game play (which is most important to me) goes to genesis by a long shot
Saying Mutant Apocalypse's music was like Megaman X's is a compliment. Clone Wars' soundtrack is a mess I don't hate Clone Wars, but you can't fuck with 90's Capcom. Mutant Apocalypse wins hands down for me.
No Keir Tanaka, Gambit charges objects with kinetic energy.. Jubilee is awesome though. She creates brilliant colorful blasts of energy.. Pretty much fire works
Nate halliwell, Yeah that AND she can detonate solid matter with em as well in a similar fashion to that of Gambit...well they let you do that as her in X-Men Legends - the only game I know you CAN play as her even though she was way under represented in that game|
Keir Tanaka I love x men legends!! Way better than part 2! Jubilee was under represented, but she's always been a childhood favorite of mine! Now my 4 yr old niece is learning about marvel stuff and she loves jubilee too!
Nate halliwell, Agreed on tha Legends series: tha 1st was a more focused team adventure(far-far-far more-so than the live-action films)by way of exploring that world through a POV character that's also a mutant/the main character but also is as new to this iteration as we are to tha game YET tha sequel was an exercise in excess baggage to outdo tha 1st but largely forgetting why tha 1st was so satisfying not to mention the biggest issue of making giant bugs your main enemies from tha jump then the even bigger middle finger of exploding the X-Mansion...eh| My apologies my critic-sense went off tha deep end again| I tried to get my niece into it but familial complications kept her out of my range|
Sorry about the family drama Keir.. that sucks 😞 my niece lives with me so it's all marvel all the time.. I think my issue with Legends 2 was character selection and dark tone.. I'm sick of everything trying to be darker to be cooler.. stop copying the empire strikes back.. marvel doesn't have to do that to tell great stories.. and I wasn't fond of magneto and juggernaut as playable characters.. how about Archangel?!! The least represented, most badass mutant in it.. either way, my main team in both games was iceman, rogue, Logan and cyclopse.. it's not about favorites (if so I'd replace Scott and Logan with gambit and nightcrawler) but it was the most well rounded team, with 2 of my favorites

And war gems but also 1 player because of snes's slow processor
We don’t talk about wolverine games on any console except for that one for ps3. That was the shit
@@Nobunaga1983 Is that why that shit was 1 player... Man that still seems unforgivable...
Spitta504TV there would be lots of slowdown or snes would have to reduce their superhero sprite size
snes version have especial moves as street figther , and genesis especial powers with one boton
You guys are awesome! Don't change please!
Gambit makes a attack from M.Bison
Steel Reserve... That was just great. :)
Dude you improved so much! We can compare the difference even when Greg was still in the show
You're actually thinking of the first X-men game. the only way to get to the final level was to reset the system or else its game over. that was not fun.
hello friends , I see your videos often , I'm from Brazil , I have a very small channel.
Your an idiot quit playing on emulators x men snes plays nothing like batman forever.
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj it's a solid game, Club me Wars is cool, but MA is epic.
I would say they’re both equally good. I would definitely say mutant Apocalypse is better than the first X-Men sega game
I think that the Snes version is a little better than the original Sega Xmen game (which is also good), but Clone wars makes up for with gameplay types and character control/movesets in what it lacks in cutscenes and character select screen graphics.
gozinta82 9
Can’t forget that bad ass music you will never forget.
@@chrisne1080 absolutely :)
Capcom did the SNES Version... They went the streetfighter route
Clone Wars music hands down.
Agreed.
The first one on genesis was bad ass
Still binging have seen like 10 episodes today alone... about 20 over the weekend
LOL
Psylocke theme is one of the best tunes of the 16 bit era!
And you can set to auto the special moves on the options menu but it's much more fun doing yourself!
Sorry but both X-Men games on Genesis were better. Plus X- Men on SNES DID have a sort of sequel in War Of The Gems.
RondoOfBloodX How dare you speak of that horrible pseudo-successor?!
as an xmen fan i enjoyed both of them a lot. this can be easily a draw. since both have pros and cons and in the final outcome, both are even. i rather genesis version. since nintendo had better graphics, sound, presentation and technology. nintendo version doesnt have the fun factor and flexibility of genesis. plataformer and fast paced action was better for me. nintendo was very slow paced. just because you only press a button to use the mutant power doesnt mean it is straight foward and doesnt mean it doesnt have a variety. when you press power button or attack button plus direction, you can direct your mutant power to any 8 directions, something it is expected when using a mutant power, nintendo didnt had that. also for some characters you can charge your mutant power to have a different outcome, adding to variety. the sega guy missed those factors.
This looks like it was made in the 80s haha
I actually liked the Sega games better.
me too played both xmen on the genesis the snes version music discourage me too much!!!
Yea without a doubt and me being a snes pusher when it comes to quantity of games. Genises proves sometimes quality and attention to lore is much better
No way
@@willeysingleton3057 Well said.
Hahahahaha. Did he just say steel reserve!?! Lol. I hope you guys made some money with this TH-cam endeavor. If I had any I would send it.
Noooo, I've seen every episode now... T-T
The way the cards were standing on the table, it looked like he was tryna pick up a carton of cigarettes. Lol
A 211 reference...wow. I have so many bad memories of that...
Oh Greg, you are missed sweet prince
I think it's psylocke that can beat the game easy.
disagree totally with the music, Xmen Mutant Apocalypse music is amazing
Wow. He moved that beer with magnetos powered because it was “steel” reserve lmao
I thought that we established in the power rangers video that side scrolling beatem ups that have controls like a fighting game don't work very well. Or am I the only one that remembers that?
They should redo this x men 2 had better controls, longer game, more charcters from the comics and is just the better game. X men 2 is more playable.
Yeah, Nintendo may have won this Console War, but he lost the Mutant Power contest. LOL
Seriously, I do own both these games, while I love "X-Men 2:Clone Wars", there's something more about "Mutant Apocalypse".
+Console Wars I never realized all the triggered fanboys you have to deal with everyday. Yikes!
It can be rough sometimes. lol.
I grew up on Nintendo, but played Sega at other peoples houses. Both systems have their perks
genesis fanboys find every single genesis video and go nuts. seriously find one video they don't come in forcing their blind opinions when they clearly won't give any snes game a chance. maybe play it for 2 minutes with hate in their heart mad the whole time and turn it off. come on, give both systems a chance fanboys. mutant apocalypse is just more fun, and actually beatable(tough, but fair, and really fun) i beat it straight through no passwords once, and i'm not a very skilled gamer (i just learned the levels and finally did it all in one go. aint happenin on the maze nightmare sega game)
@@Rodzilla97 I grew up playing genesis but I play both, both consoles are great it just depends on the game
I can easily say some games for both consoles that are amazing in comparison to the other:
The glory hole is now covered up by the turtle mask. Wtf is happening
Character animation looks smooth on Sega, jerky on Nintendo
Have you guys considered doing an episode on Wolverine: Adamantium Rage.
Toast-Ghost I second this suggestion.
x-men 2 clone wars is way better and its not even close i played through both recently and at a younger age.
Hahahah you pause right on psylocks ass xD
He's quoting us? Sorry to hear that. Lol. Glad he enjoys it. We discussed using profanity and it just didn't add anything to the reviews.
Saying Mutant Apocalypse's music was like Megaman X's is a compliment. Clone Wars' soundtrack is a mess I don't hate Clone Wars, but you can't fuck with 90's Capcom. Mutant Apocalypse wins hands down for me.
Yes Capcom was undetronable in the 90's.
I disagree with the music part. SNES music for X-Men is CLEARLY better....but that's my opinion
You forgot that there's a stage in the Genesis game where you have to reset the console or you can't get to the next level.
+Barrett That's the first X-Men game.
Console Wars Yeah, the first X-Men game on Genesis, you have to reset the Genesis on one stage, or least I've seen from AVGN.
*N I N T E N T O*
X-Men 2 is the shit. Great memories from my childhood.
I don't understand tha hate on Jubilee; if you have her power then you basically have Gambit's power as well|
No Keir Tanaka, Gambit charges objects with kinetic energy..
Nate halliwell, Agreed on tha Legends series: tha 1st was a more focused team adventure(far-far-far more-so than the live-action films)by way of exploring that world through a POV character that's also a mutant/the main character but also is as new to this iteration as we are to tha game YET tha sequel was an exercise in excess baggage to outdo tha 1st but largely forgetting why tha 1st was so satisfying not to mention the biggest issue of making giant bugs your main enemies from tha jump then the even bigger middle finger of exploding the X-Mansion...eh|
My apologies my critic-sense went off tha deep end again|
I tried to get my niece into it but familial complications kept her out of my range|
The least represented, most badass mutant in it.. either way, my main team in both games was iceman, rogue, Logan and cyclopse.. it's not about favorites (if so I'd replace Scott and Logan with gambit and nightcrawler) but it was the most well rounded team, with 2 of my favorites
come on sega is better also Happy Halloween everyone!
The clone battle in Super Nintendo is also better. Both games has you fight clones snd the clones are much better in Super Nintendo
That’s it, are we doing this?!?
Love the show since i didn't have a genesis it makes me want to play the games you have shown to get the true experience of the differences between both game consoles.
I don’t remember if I watched this one but clone wars is got to win this one. It’s the best X-men game made at least to that point
Edit you guys are too funny. Something came out
Nintendo was like you wanna see someone play 52 card pick up while they're sleep, watch this, take this Sega 🃏😂
Wow 8 years ago. I arrived so late into the game. And I love this channel. Even though these old videos have poor quality. Back in those days that’s all some people had. Sorry it took me so long to find this channel. And now I have this new guy that took Greg’s spot and I didn’t even know it’s been awhile since Greg has even been on the show. And no one seems to know what happened to him besides that he needs time. I hope he is ok?
Well deserving winner here. Anyone could have won this fight.
Dan talking SEGA's smooth balls! XD
This bull-shit, and I want a fucking re-count. "X-Men 2: Clone Wars" is sweet milk from the cow's generous udder.
I'm partial to the Sega version first and second. They epitomized the comic style of the 90s (Jim Lee). X men Apocalypse epitomizes street fighter looking characters and game play. This is my 3rd video and while I admit Nintendo did a lot of great game some perhaps better than Sega this was not one of them. Does Sega do anything right in you channels eyes or will Nintendo always be the victor? I'll keep watching maybe I'm wrong but it seems like there's a trend. I hope these aren't just going to be bias opinions all the way through because it is a pretty funny show you guys put together. On this one though I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
These games are good.. but they sure aint no Garfield Kart!
Never played Clone Wars. But if it came down to the first game on Genesis vs SNES. Would be no contest. Clone Wars looks fun though
I was happy to get rid of my Genesis copies of X-Men and X-Men 2. They both sucked lol. X-Men on the SNES on the other hand was and still is amazing.
Psh yea right. xmen 2 is a masterpiece with fighting and platforming. snes is a mindless beatup punch punch move right punch punch move right
David Steck Damn.. I'm agreeing with you..
+SDS Overfiend oh sorry dude I thought that was directed to me. I saw that video on your channel where that guy gets hit with a hammer, that's crazy
Robert NES816 I prefer xmen 1 for sega over all of them honestly
The 2player co-op doesn't work on a platformer, only on a side scroller
I have both of them, but I think Sega Genesis version is better.
14:19 NintenTo oops
The 2player co-op doesn't work on the platformers, only on the side scrollers I guess
