    Usually when it comes to SNES vs Genesis Music/Sound, I prefer SNES since I don't really like the Genesis sound effects too much (but Genesis sounds do work amazingly well for Sonic games), but for this versus, I'm going with the audio of MMPR: The Movie on Sega Genesis because the music is based on Ron Wasserman's MMPR songs from the show. It's definitely not forgettable (as least not forgettable for me as I listen to the Power Rangers Redux album so many times).

  • @Hillthugsta
    @Hillthugsta 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Ehhh, I dunno. I'm a Sega guy, and I frequently disagree with them giving SNES the edge in sound just because it can do sampling/instrumentation better (or should I say, more easily). Despite this advantage, the SNES sound chip often produces more hollow, softer/weaker music. I generally prefer the more robust, bass-filled electronic sound of the Genesis, considering these are video games, after all. *However* , in this particular instance, I think the SNES sounds better in every aspect. Whoever did the music on this game for SNES did a great job.

  • @somersetashton-lewis3415
    @somersetashton-lewis3415 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I noticed something I'm not seeing anyone talk about here, so I'll share my thoughts. At 3:20 you mention that the sprites look better on the SNES. It's just my opinion, but I would have to disagree with that one. On the SNES, all the ranger sprites are just palette swaps of the Red Ranger. This is inaccurate as all the rangers have different subtle design differences, like helmets and added flare like the pink rangers skirt. Not to mention the Pink and Yellow ranger are supposed to be slightly leaner and less masculine than the others. The Genesis version has more accurate sprites. The most stand out features are the helmets. They all are drawn to look like the actual helmet. Not a criticism of your vid, just something I noticed.

    Um, The SNES sounds like a MIDI file, because that's how it's sound system operates. It plays back prerecorded ADPCM samples that are heavily compressed to fit into RAM. It's very similar sounding to early 90's MIDI. The Genesis uses FM Synth, so it sounds like FM Synth.

  • @TheSpoofMan3
    @TheSpoofMan3 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Sega overall has it under its belt, the game is much, much better and authentic on the Genesis. Graphic comparison is on par, with only deciding factor being details and on genesis it looks authentic look wise. Snes version, everyone is jacked up and too similar to one another in suit (notice how differentiated each character is on Gen). Sound too is amazing on Gen, not at all MIDI like as he said. You can hear the heavy thumping music and it follows the show/movie. It even utilizes proper sound fx. Snes version is just okay whereas Sega Rangers game is amazing!

    Snes has better graphics? Are you kidding lol... They reused the same power ranger sprite for all them, all of them had the red ranger template! Only white ranger looked different. It has a lower color range. There was no combo animations, You only get your weapon at full power gauge.
    The sega one is way superior, each ranger had unique parts, with correct helmets, proper body proportions for males and females. It also follows the story more whereas the snes one was more random..
    The only cool feature in the snes was the fact that u can fight in civilian form and for some wierd reason the civilian forms were the only ones that had unique animations. Another feature was the map gameplay diversity but thats it.

    There is no doubt that the Sega version is 100% superior to all of your categories, I understand that when you write your cringe worthy scrip with flat humor, you need to some how have nintendo have points, but when it comes to these two games, The Sega version is better. It's not saying the SNES game is bad, but it's not fucking with the SEGA version.
    They really shouldn't be compared, I know they're both "The Movie Games" but they really aren't.
    Graphics- SEGA... The characters are not pallete swaps, each character was modeled to look like their counter parts look how each helmet is different, each body style, even the yellow ranger, who was male in Japan, female in the US, and the game modeled HER to be a HER. The zords, the enemies, the back ground... Serpenterra in the BG should have pushed you over the edge. The SNES made their female rangers just as broad shouldered and manly as the rest of the boys.
    Sound... SEGA... Usually Genesis gets shit on because of its poor sound chip, but... every US PR song is in this game... Everything sounds great, the hiya's, eeyas, etc... SEGA just bops the SNES.
    Presentation- you already noted SEGA wins... I need not say why.
    Gameplay- SEGA... plain and simple... the game is not frustratingly hard, you have zords, and each character feels unique. You don't have a stupid morph/power up weapon gimmick, it's no bullshit gameplay.
    With all this being said... Keep up the good work, I know I come off as crass, but realize it's criticism and not hate. I stumbled upon this channel from looking up gameplay on the Batman TAS. Your humor bits are bad, that's to say the least, but your analyzation and banter with gameplay up is actually quite good, you need to find a way to channel it, and work it out. I'll be checking back for more vids.

    I don't think complaining about getting the icons to turn into a Ranger was a good point against Nintendo. The characters over the course of the series began to rely less on the powers as they got stronger and more skilled. They were still trained martial artists who practiced their techniques at school. It got to a point where even Billy could fend off the standard mook without any trouble. Hell, in the movie, the Rangers not only started the first fight without morphing, they actually did lose their powers for most of the movie and had to prove their worth in order to get them back, so it ironically had more to do with the movie than the Sega version since you're permanently morphed in that version

    The SNES game was okay, but the Genesis game was better. The SNES was more or less a re-hash of the other SNES MMPR sidecroller, had nothing to do with the movie and had had multi-colored red rangers. Yeah, in the original Zyuranger sentai, the yellow ranger was actualy a guy (hence no skirt), but, MAN. Since it's just a recolored red ranger over and over (look at the helmets), everyone's built like John Cena in the SNES version, even the girls! lol
    Also, while the SNES music wasn't bad and had superior sound effects, the music in the Genesis version is the Rob Wasserman score from the show! "Fight", "Combat", "5-4-1", Go, Green Ranger! Go!" and more all make appearances in the game.

    There were a lot of these for S-FAM, SNES and Mega Drive. The Fighting game would make an interesting wars too. The Mighty Morphin for SNES Vs Super Sentai for S-FAM Vs Mighty Morphin for Mega Drive would make a great 3 Way Dance but it would be unfair to the Mega Drive to have 2 Nintendo's unless it had it's own exclusive title to go 1 on 1 with Sentai.

    Natsume made some excellent titles on SNES, but this one was, unfortunately, one of their more lackluster efforts. Sega wins this round.

  • @GamerSpax
    @GamerSpax 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Personally, the SNES one sounds more like a MIDI file, they both do, but the Mega Drive one is far more faithful to the show. And that's not Go Go Power Rangers playing on the Sega title screen, that's the Zords theme from the show playing there while the real theme is saved for a couple Zord fights and the end credits. All the music on the Mega Drive version is directly from the show. If anyone claims to be a retro Power Rangers fan and says the music on the Mega Drive version is forgettable, then no, they are not a Power Rangers fan. Therefore, I feel the sound win on SNES should be disqualified. Yes, the fight sounds are better I admit, but Sega has everything from the show which is far superior.
    Also, graphics are better on the Mega Drive as all the rangers on the SNES look exactly the same morphed sans the White Ranger. They're all muscular recolors of the Red Ranger. On the Mega Drive, all the rangers look slim and athletic as they should and each have their correct helmet designs.
    You can also control the time limit settings in the menu, and personally I rarely ever run into a problem with it. To be a Sega nerd here, just embrace the Blast Processing. But seriously, if you're good at beat em ups, the timer doesn't affect much really.
    And no, I am not a Sega fanboy. I will say I prefer 2D Sonic over 2D Mario for the most part, but I do prefer 3D Mario over 3D Sonic, and Nintendo has more franchises I like such as Star Fox, Kirby, Zelda, and some great RPGs and one of my favorite platformers, Yoshi's Island. I like both Nintendo and Sega for what they offered in their generations. This is me being a Power Rangers fanboy. I've never cared for the Nintendo Power Rangers games as much as the Sega ones, mainly as the Sega ones are far more faithful to the Power Rangers lore and have gameplay fitting of the series such as fighting and arcade beat 'em up. The only exception is Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition for SNES which does a great job feeling like the show and has the appropriate gameplay for it.
    For modern consoles, I think a Power Rangers game in the style of the Batman: Arkham games could be awesome or even some of Platinum Games action brawlers.

      I saw that recently, and exactly. As a Power Rangers fan, the fact that Sega actually has Ron Wasserman's beloved fight music and it sounds awesome for console rock music, Nintendo I will say as a massive Power Rangers fan should be disqualified on that category. Graphics can be more debatable, but the character model one should be removed as an argument. First of all, they're just recycled from the first SNES Power Rangers game, so it was pretty lazy. While Sega's are not as detailed, they at least look as they SHOULD for the characters, and accuracy should be considered when checking out the character sprites.

      nah after the first level you get tired of playing as the human form. It just sucks. if you buy a power rangers game you want to play as a power ranger. it doesnt make any sense. For that matter (if you wanna play as a normal human) they would have added a level dedicated to play like that, but after that all ... all the levels as power rangers. Collecting lighting bolts to be able to transform is idiotic. plus that change of paths you have to make with the L and R triggers is idiotic as well. I remember playing both games when i was a kid. and genesis version kicked ass

    okay, in this case I DO think SEGA had the better graphics overall! While they use the same Sprites for 4 of the 5 Rangers, at least Pink had her skirt AND Helmet!! Not just white, like on Nintendo!
    Nintendo had all Rangers shared the SAME SPRITES as the red Ranger, just color swapped, except white ranger of course. It was not just that Kimberly missed her skirt, but she (and Aisha) were also BUFF as hell!
    Sure, they had their backgrounds are worse, but their Character Sprites were DEFINATELY better!

    I looked at the gameplay of the SNES VERSION and it looked tedious as hell. The fact that you had to collect little shards of lightening to power up your morpher is rediculous IMO. The putties take 2 hits to defeat whether morphed or "unmorphed" and last I checked, there weren't any putties in the movie. Just those Ooze henchmen, the vulture henchmen and Ivan Ooze himself.

    Wow this video was pretty awful and bias. Even people who never played either version could tell that the Genesis version was clearly superior. The SNES version is completely miss-leading as it has nothing to do with the actual show besides some of the character sprites. It doesn't follow a story line from either the show nor movie while in the Genesis version it doesn't just follow the movie but also covers a part of the show about one of the better Lord Zedd arcs I loved. There's even a badass battle against him and how does the SNES gets mentioned as the better sound when the Genesis version doesn't just clearly sound superior but also gets them right from the show while again the SNES version doesn't contain anything from the show save the theme. They would probably say the SNES version of Aladdin has superior graphics as well.

    Hah...Rangers looking better on SNES. Which is why they're buff for absolutely no reason, the non-Tommy Rangers look exactly the same compared to the Genesis having different helmets (oh and NOT BEING BUFF) and Kimberly's skirt is intact on the Genesis. Oh, and the SNES sprites are massively lazy because it's just taking the first Power Rangers SNES game sprites, giving them different shaders and mostly melee animations to replace the weapons for the most part. Hell, their movement has even LESS animation than that game! XD
    It gets a point right back for the human sprites, though, so at least it has that. And hey, at least that gets addressed anyway.

    Adding in one new comment to this from my original one, I love this show and I do feel from this episode onwards, the format and everything has improved to where it's more fair. But this is the ONE episode I have to still maintain my dislike for due to it's extreme bias and lack of attention. Again, the Sega game HAS music from the show where as the SNES version only has the Go Go Power Rangers theme. The Sega version also has individual models for each ranger where as the SNES one uses the same Red Ranger design for all characters sans White Ranger. To me, even in the early days, the is the sole bad episode of Console Wars due to lack of proper research.
