I love the smell of clothes dried on a line in the sunshine! I grew up in Bermuda and we did not have a dryer. It is so humid there that things took forever to dry unless you dried them in the sun.
Now I live in a pretty dry climate so things dry quickly. Clothes, etc. last longer when air-dried. I like to hang everything on a clothes rack since I don't have a clothes line here. I prefer towels not dried in a dryer because slightly rough terry exfoliates much better than towels right out of the dryer.
Nothing beats a dryer for getting the wrinkles out of clothes when you're too lazy to iron!

Please please, in terms of being pulled over by the police, don’t allow yourself to think you won’t get pulled over or you will be very disappointed. I absolutely love Ghana and intend to move there one day but they have something called check points that just pop up at night and can be very annoying. They’re supposed to be for our safety but a lot of police just use it to extort money from people. Especially around Christmas because thats Ghanas busiest time of the year as tourism increases significantly so they get a lot of money from us tourists. Some of them can be pricks and will threaten to put you in jail if you don’t give them so and so amount of money, some of them are cool and just shine a torch in your car quickly and let you go. We still have corruption in Ghana police force, its just a different type compared to what we’re used to in the US or in my case, the UK.

It's called code switching. You hear it most often with West Indians and Africans when they're at school/work vs with their family/friends.
The funniest ones are when you hear them answer the phone all proper but switch immediately when they realize that it's a family/friend that they're speaking with.

Ghana is the place to be. I was born in Nigeria but there is no freaking way i'm moving back there. I was lucking enough to work in Ghana for a while and that's where i discovered how wonderful it's people are. Been living in the U.S for over a decade now but i'm pretty sure i'll retire in Ghana.

Back to what I was saying my granny used to tell me we have half of the akan tribe outside Ghana which is Jamaicans so we are of the same root and tribe even our traditional dressing seems alike the "kente" so are always welcome home

I am a Jamaican (lol) and having lived in both asia and europe, I came back back to JA recently. Walking down the street I thought "this is shitty country but ut's my shity country" then I thought, "wait what? is it?" lololol so now I'm making plans to move to nigeria/ghana/yorubaland as well... In all my travels, many of the smartest, most attractive africans I've met are west africans: Yoruba, Ewe, Ashanti, Fula, Wolof ... I could go on
I don't know why but I just started crying at the thought of going home. Wondering if this is where I am from. Not feeling like I belong in the US. It's not easy to leave behind all the negative info I have had in my life about Africa. Now I see someone who is not only living but thriving.

Read about the continent and the people and do not let false images guide your thinking. As a child born in the early 60's the vibe around my environment was pro Africa . Our family left the south in 69. We moved to Detroit where my older siblings shared with the younger ones culture. And believe it or not my parents were very open they were in there early 40's. We were like one of a group of families, that were founding families in a community center that was Afrocentric. Ghana isn't perfect and nor is any place on this earth perfect. However, when we touched down and came out into the warm air. The party of people waiting for us along with others waiting for their family and friends all said at some point Welcome Home.I tell you with everything in me even before I heard these greetings I felt Home. I know America is the land of my birth and it is home. But the welcome home spoke to me even from the land. The negative vibe we feel in the states as the result of being the descendants of Africans was absent. I always felt warm and everyone around me looked like me. I was mistaken for being native borne Ghanaian many times. You will love it if your mind is transformed before you make your pilgrimage. I had the fortune of being prepared every since I was a yout...Lol BlessUp Sis and enjoy every minute of your trip. You probably will start thinking how can I live here....!

When you live in Ghana, many parts of Nigeria and some west African countries one thing you will realize is that you won't have to worry about active shooter situations. You will be at peace. You will walk like a truly free person. The only thing I pray for is large opportunities like the European countries have. Ppl will come to you and truly ask about your well being. People will share food during Xmas and other festive seasons.

Everything is expensive in the USA, when I was in Belize, I get real fresh fruits and vegetables every day, things that we take for granted and when you get to travel outside of the USA, you get to see how other countries appreciate what they have.
That “weird thing” that looked like a green lizard is called Corilla or Serasi. It is a POTENT hepatic food. You only cook a bit of it, maybe steam it- but don’t stew it with other foods as it is extremely bitter! It is a purging food. In Jamaica we drink the herb once a year as part of our annual “wash out”. Kids would disappear when that time came. 😂

You do a very good job explaining the reality of life in an African country. I just wanted to add that when you go to the market it’s good to bargain your prices. You save more bargaining rather than accepting the initial price. If they know you are foreign , they’ll always try to increase the prices too.
