    Notice that in the ENTIRE 30 MINUTES Matt spent reviewing this car, he only mentioned the word “brand” once (at least that I heard, in GLC43 comparison). ONCE! Sure, he discussed how this is more unique than some of the establishment competition, but he focused purely on the vehicle itself and didn’t bring any issues of brand recognition, stigma, etc. into the discussion. A really important mark of a great car reviewer and a big reason why this channel continues to be one of my favorites.

      Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are desperately banking on Americans to demand the brand cache and reject the value brands. It's the only way they can maintain their sales because the actual luxury, features, and performance they provide is substandard. Keep in mind when they set up a manufacturing line there are Billions in fixed costs that have to get amortized over time which means unit pushthrough or they shutter the line.

    I saw a white one of these at a stoplight and was stunned. Jaw dropped. Briefly had no idea what it was. Once i realized what it was i was shocked at how the already great looking GV80 could look so much better in the smaller GV70 form

    I think I would get the 2.5T which would offer better gas mileage and a phenomenal price. Also I think Genesis needs to develop a hybrid/plug-in hybrid version of this car. This is an excellent review of a stellar product.

    Hey Mat & team,
    Thx for the review - Well done!!
    The GV70 offers a wide variety of modes for the driver to enjoy.
    As I approach 60 yrs old (and I'm a bit of a car guy) I totally love the luxury & comfort side of vehicles BUT also what to turn it up when I can. This GV70 3.5TT should really be about $20-$50K higher priced. It simply does everything really well and is 2nd to none is this segment when it comes to ride quality, comfortness, quietness all while surrounding the occupants with massive luxury features.
    It is called the baby Bentayga for many reasons. It is so quiet & refined when you want it to be - When you're stuck in traffic or going no where fast. My wife asked me if it was an EV as it was so quiet. Those double paned windows really make a huge difference. Plus the massaging seat is nice!!
    When you want to drive spiritedly switch it into Sports + mode and you easily hear the roar of the engine and the sweet exhaust notes while enjoying the rear wheel driving bias sporty experience.
    In comparison, the RDX A Spec it an excellent top rated vehicle but that engine is super noisy vs the GV70 and its a much more stiffer ride. Plus I wasn't impressed with the 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds to the GV 70's of 5.7 (4.9 seconds in the V-6). And the RDX weighs 450 lbs less.
    Its the luxury components/options, higher tech, standard features & options, the ride quality (can be extremely quiet & smooth AND aggressive and sweet exhaust notes) that makes this GV 70 THE clear winner in segment.
    Overall the CLEAR winner for me the is the GV70 3.5TT in Sport trim level. I'll take it in that Gorgeous Mauna Red exterior colour with 2 tone interior combination please:-)
    In Canada that full load price is $76,500 plus taxes. The F&PDI is included in that price. No discounts from that at all.
    The electrified version is coming out in 2023 but in Canada the top trim level will be about $25K-$35K higher cost to the ICE version. Besides its NO Gas requirement the EV version is a littler quicker with 0-60 times 4.3 to 4.6 seconds. For me I'd put down my deposit yesterday if the EV version had a time in the 3.5 second range. It will have a 500 kms range on a full charge.
    PS - Lots of dealer problems with Genesis in the States. Here in Vancouver No problems at all. I have 3 dealers within 40 minutes and the nearest is 15 mins away.
    Cheers all!!

    Matt, I am glad you reviewed this amazing GV70. One thing I have noticed with the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis LKA system is taking corners is a challenge and roads that have the reflective tar strips that run parallel to the solid or striped lane lines, seem to confuse it as well. Not making excuses at all, but with my Kia, I have noticed the imperfections on certain spots driving on the expressway. Other than that, I have had a good experience!

  • @sundayadickson
    @sundayadickson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is it that almost every car reviewer just thinks that for a car to be 'good' in their own thinking it MUST have a loud exhaust note? Do you guys ever think that the infotainment system is just to beautify the car? They're people who just love music and not noise.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I praised the car endlessly, so yes I still think the GV70 is good without a loud exhaust. But as a car reviewer, my job is to compare with competitors. Competitors have active exhausts that allow you to have a loud or quiet exhaust at the press of a button. The Genesis does not. In the competitors, if you don't want to hear the engine, you have that choice. But if you do want to hear it (it is a sporty SUV after all, some people will want to), those competitors give you that option as well.

      Volvo isn't Japanese.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Volvo, Acura and Lexus don't have direct competitors. The XC60 Recharge Polestar Engineered kind of competes with this, but it's much heavier and doesn't have a 6 cylinder engine like this and the German competitors do. It also starts over 70k, so it's far more expensive than the GV70. Acura RDX and Lexus RX are much slower. If I review the GV70 2.5T, then I can discuss those competitors and how it compares to them.

    @Matt Maran Motoring Acura RDX advanced vs. GV70 2.5T ... Which would you take as they are around the same price? I personally think the GV70 looks better inside and out. But the RDX probably has the better power-train, AWD system, reliability (worse warranty) and resale value.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d have to drive the 2.5T to really compare them, but the RDX is roomier and has the best handling of all the compact luxury SUVs in its segment that I’ve tested. But Acura has been having some glitches with their newer cars that can lead to reliability issues, so the GV70 could be more reliable. I agree GV70 looks better and also has much easier infotainment tech. I still love the RDX though.

    The GLC is far from outdated and it doesn't just "launch better" it actually performs better, but nice try at minimizing that. The BMW beats the Genesis in performance also. The Germans easily have better powertrains for performance and efficiency. 3-4K more for the BMW shouldn't phase a buyer in this segment who can actually afford one of these.

      The GLC has been in production 6 years now and a new generation will be revealed very soon, so yes, it is outdated. Did you even watch the review? In the handling and "other thoughts" segment I talk about how all 3 of the German competitors are better performers. No dispute there. If you watched the video, you'd see that I say the Genesis beats them all in smoothness, luxury and value, and that it's a good middle ground for those that want the power but don't need razor sharp handling or loud exhausts.

You don’t have to sell me on the GV70 because I like it but saying the GLC is outdated is just plain incorrect. Aged yes but not outdated when it still outperforms the GV70.
