In just six years of existence and four years of production, Genesis has emerged as a formidable luxury manufacturer. Each of the Korean brand's six models (including the GV60, G70, G80, GV80, and G90) delivers style, athleticism, and advanced technology to rival established German and Japanese nameplates. But can the GV70 - which contends in the packed and perilous compact performance luxury SUV segment - push Genesis into a leadership position?
In this in-depth review of the 2022 Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport's exterior, interior, and driving dynamics, Miles weighs the Korean crossover against BMW's X3 M40i, Mercedes-AMG's GLC 43, and Audi's SQ5.

Just re-watched, excellent review. I've owned Germans and Jags, they were not problem free. Went Infiniti for a few years, great engines, vey dated style and electronics. Took a GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige for a test drive, traded a Q50 Red Sport on the spot. Love the car, more luxury than sport, mileage is not great but I knew that going in and getting the 3.5 TT. Watch out Deutschland, Genesis is serious...................

    Hey team,
Thx for the review - Well done!!
The GV70 offers a wide variety of modes for the driver to enjoy.
As I approach 60 yrs old (and I'm a bit of a car guy) I totally love the luxury & comfort side of vehicles BUT also what to turn it up when I can. This GV70 3.5TT should really be about $20-$50K higher priced. It simply does everything really well and is 2nd to none is this segment when it comes to ride quality, comfortness, quietness all while surrounding the occupants with massive luxury features.
It is called the baby Bentayga for many reasons. It is so quiet & refined when you want it to be - When you're stuck in traffic or going no where fast. My wife asked me if it was an EV as it was so quiet. Those double paned windows really make a huge difference. Plus the massaging seat is nice!!
When you want to drive spiritedly switch it into Sports + mode and you easily hear the roar of the engine and the sweet exhaust notes while enjoying the rear wheel driving bias sporty experience.
In comparison, the RDX A Spec it an excellent top rated vehicle but that engine is super noisy vs the GV70 and its a much more stiffer ride. Plus I wasn't impressed with the 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds to the GV 70's of 5.7 (4.9 seconds in the V-6). And the RDX weighs 450 lbs less.
Its the luxury components/options, higher tech, standard features & options, the ride quality (can be extremely quiet & smooth AND aggressive and sweet exhaust notes) that makes this GV 70 THE clear winner in segment.
Overall the CLEAR winner for me the is the GV70 3.5TT in Sport trim level. I'll take it in that Gorgeous Mauna Red exterior colour with 2 tone interior combination please:-)
In Canada that full load price is $76,500 plus taxes. The F&PDI is included in that price. No discounts from that at all.
The electrified version is coming out in 2023 but in Canada the top trim level will be about $25K-$35K higher cost to the ICE version. Besides its NO Gas requirement the EV version is a littler quicker with 0-60 times 4.3 to 4.6 seconds. For me I'd put down my deposit yesterday if the EV version had a time in the 3.5 second range. It will have a 500 kms range on a full charge.
PS - Lots of dealer problems with Genesis in the States. Here in Vancouver No problems at all. I have 3 dealers within 40 minutes and the nearest is 15 mins away.
    Cheers all!!

  • @ThousanWhite

There's like 3x as many cars that directly compete in this segment besides "BMW, Mercedes, and Audi". It's a pet peeve of mine how everyone of these "automotive media types" just brings these three manufacturers up in the small compact luxury segment when there's wayy more out there.
Yes, I know they're easy, "sexy targets" as industry benchmarks but come on, let's at least make an ATTEMPT to give some comparison attention to Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, Lincoln, Jaguar, Cadillac, Land Rover, Alfa Romeo, and Volvo who have all been making some great luxury crossovers in the last few years that compete in this category.

    • @MilesPerHr
      @MilesPerHr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Indeed all those brands have competitors. I didn't list them for 2 reasons: 1) Genesis is benchmarking the Germans, so it's rational to measure the GV70 against the cars its aiming to beat
      2) The competitive discussion would be a 10 minute segment if I attempted to list ALL the vehicles vying for buyers in this niche.

I own a GV70. It's only been 3 days of ownership but I found that you can change the brake feel in settings. I have to double check if it changes automatically when you switch to sport mode. But by default it seems as though brake feel in settings is set to "Comfort". I will change it to a different setting and see what happens whenever it stops raining here might not be for a while.

    Driving Impressions on Public Roads
    25:08 - 0-60 run on a boulevard road
27:01 - 65 MPH speed limit - gauge display visible
27:09 - Multiple passes from the right lane of the road
27:46 - HUD showing actual speed
29:58 - Driver ahead (Honda Accord) signaled to move out of passing lane but had to cancel because you sped past them on the right lane
You may want to find a test drive route that will keep you clear of road fines and consider obscuring gauge information in your post production work. If you were cited with the above observations AND recording your actions for social media, you could see a possible reckless driving charge. Like your content but you seem overly comfortable compared to others reviewing cars.
