I drove two different Altimas as rentals while my car was in the shop. This new gen is very comfortable and an excellent daily. I really like the seats, the dash layout and blind spot monitoring on the inside of the door. A lot of very nice touches that add up to a great experience. I can’t speak for the long term reliability but the CVT was surprisingly pleasant, it’s not as bad as others and it gets you really good gas mileage. The Altima is great but it’s just a little hard to recommend after the new Sonata came out

    I don't mind the CVT
When it doesn't fail it is actually avery good transmision
And you don't feel the change of the gears like any regular automatic transmisions and it saves a little bit of gas compared to other transmisions
I have a 2014 maxima with 75K on it and it still drives fantastic
I had other issues with the car over the years of course but nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary
I had a power oil leakage which is the only big problem I had so far with the car
So I'm guessing the new altima CVT shouldn't be any worse than mine
I had also a 2016 xtrail which was given to me by my company and I've owned a 2005 altima and drove it for 215K miles before selling it
So my impression so far is that Nissan is reliable enough
Not as reliable as a Toyota of course but it is still up there
I only had one car that wasn't a Nissan which is a 2014 charger and it was great but the build quality was terrible and the interior noises were very annoying and it felt like a chinese car and I had electrical problems starting with the windows and the headlights and other mechanical problems constintly which was the only car I loved and hated at the same time

I love the Cvt as well, my 16’ Altima has simulated shifts mimics 7spd and my 19 vc-turbo mimics an 8spd. It does a very good job of doing so. I haven’t had any issues from my 16’ and I’ve been pretty tough on it. My 19’ I haven’t had long but I have faith in it as well. If you allow them to warm up, and service them they’ll last. Also people even Nissan techs blame Cvt when it’s typically something else. I just joined maxima post and they just had theirs replaced at 54k miles but guess what? 11 miles later it’s same issue so it wasn’t Cvt! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Owner of a 2017 Altima SR, here, midnight edition, with a 100k extended (full coverage) warranty. Thus far, I have 54k miles on the odometer, with one of those infamous (paddle shift) CVT. And guess what? It still runs like new. Absolutely no complaints and zero problemo's!! Same goes for our 2013 Rogue (213k miles) and 2009 370z (112k miles). Absolutely no problemos, with any of them. Sry to disappoint you all :) but I digress...
Anyway, not really a big fan of the new Altima, though. Saw a few in person, even went to the dealer and sat in one. I like the grill/front fascia and tail lights but thats about it. From a distance, and especially from the back, everything just seems dimensionally smaller. Like it has a more boxy sorta 90's profile to it. And that floating c-pilar -- who thought that was a good idea? I think its a bit of an eye sore/ugly, myself. That said, can't wait for the new Z to get here. Unlike the bland new Altima, hope they do it justice.

I automatically give props for Nissan continuing to duke it out in a segment where Ford, Chrysler and GM threw their hands up and left in a huff. Nissan needs to add a few features (ventilated front seats cuz it’s hot in Texas) to keep up with the fierce competition. Hyundai and Kia both launched tomahawks in this segment so nissan has to to keep an eye out to keep the Altima fresh. Overall not bad

It's hard to recommend purchasing the vehicle because of the longterm reliability question. I have a 2016 altima with about 93.500 miles on it but I'm trading it in once it's reaches 100k miles because it'll be out of warranty and can't take the change with the cvt going out on it. I love this car used to own a Altima agree when CVTs first came out they weren't reliable had mines replaced 5x toward end worked well. Now driving a 2015 Rogue same CVT it's a great car absolutely love if bought another car as second one in household (tied- between Maxima, Altima or Sentra). I want a Maxima with the PLT Reserve only thing uses high grade gas didn't say didn't want another Altima when needed a car back in '15 was afraid to buy another Altima read horrible reviews of the CVT transmissions + really wasn't fond of body style from 2013-18 so went Rogue it looked more stylish around that time. I am loving the Sentra not in small cars buy looking at something affordable would buy it's a (Baby-Altima) also like the new redesigned Rogue so if bought another car guess be either Altima, Sentra or Maxima love all Nissans I would even get a Murano though a car guy used be high off the ground after driving a SUV for years. The Altima is beautiful doesn't look like a Nissan same goes with Sentra and Maxima people might dislike Nissans because of the CVTs when first bought my '07 took a test drive thought the car was junk as would had problems which did few years later thought same about the Rogue but takes off smooth like a 6 cylinder having a smooth ride it's still great at 23k miles original on everything only thing need be battery and tires, the brakes haven't started squealing yet probably time changing spark plugs keeping the car and engine in great condition.

So I bought one of these soon after they came out. I wanted the propilot feature and as much horsepower as I could get. My main disappointment is that on my car I have a 2 second delay upon flooring the accelerator until I get movement (this is from a dead stop). If moving I still have the same delay before I sense any acceleration. This is hazardous from a dead stop. My son was driving us one day, and he caught a brief break in traffic while attempting to turn left across two lanes and the hesitation nearly got us hit. He is used to driving an underpowered small car that does not have that delay. Just my car, or do they all do it?

I like how the Altima and Sentra look more like the maxima. I think the Altima is a good alternative to the maxima. You do loose alot in comparison to the maxima. But you have :
    Better fuel efficiency.
    Cheaper insurance rates.
    Cheaper sticker price
