I'm just over the CVT hate, sure they aren't "enthusiast" focused transmissions but they're great in city traffic, the thing that bothers me most about CVTs nowadays is the fake shifting they add, it sounds so fake... People complain about Nissan's CVTs but they seem to be like most other cars in terms of reliability, you'll hear a bunch of people talk about failures below 100k, other people (like myself) have Nissans with over 224k & the original trans. Makes you wonder how some people treat their cars.
So true I have a 2012 Altima with 225,000 miles and have never changed the trans fluid and still going strong but I don’t rag it out either, only issues I have had in 6 yes with the car is oil cooler gasket and had to changed coil packs twice👍🏽
Test drove this car about 1 week. Ago debating about going with this or a 2017 and up A3. If Nissan got rid of the cvt or at the bare minimum swapped who was making their cvt it would be an easy decision. The SR trim is awesome.
I'm currently renting a 2019 Nissan Sentra, and CVTs are mixed bag. They shift very smooth, BUT the CVT gets loud at higher acceleration. Also it has the occasional tendency to hold high RPM, leading to the car accelerating faster than normal after coming from a stop. Good thing the safety feature are top notch!
Eric P I too rented a 19 Sentra and the CVT is not good in that model. However the CVT in the Rogue and Versa Note were excellent, could not tell it from a regular automatic. It’s not all equal with CVts
Nissan seats are the best. I have a 2018 Altima and drive quite a bit. 3-4 hours at a clip is about average. I have had many sedans over the years, and judge many by the comfort they provide. If I don't have to stop by hour 2 to get out and stretch and walk around to relive back pain, then the car gets a thumbs up. With the zero gravity seats, driving 3-4 hours non-stop is not a problem. Also, my 2018 Altima with the 4 cylinder gets about 38 MPG on a highway cruise. Mixed driving the car still gets 33-34 MPG. Why to to hybrid or other systems, which add complexity and cost? My next sedan will be another Altima also! Just a point on the CVT transmission. My last car was a Subaru with a CVT. I thought the was somewhat jerky - never felt like the transmission knew exactly what gear it should be in. The Nissan is a lot better, and while not the feel of a geared transmission, it is not terrible. Check out an Altima - you won't be disappointed!
You're RIGHT... (not your words but)... CVTs SUCK!! NISSAN has been dropping the ball when they got rid of the SE-R ALTIMA. Now that was the best ALTIMA ever
I've driven other Nissans like the Sentra, the Versa Note, as well as other CVT vehicles like the Chevy Spark, and last-gen Toyota Corolla and I have to say the new Altima has the best CVT of all of them hands-down. It feels a lot more direct than prior ones - as in, your gas pedal feels like it's actually connected to something. The ratios change decently quickly as well. However, I'd still take a regular automatic any day... OK except the new Camry. The 8-speed in the new Camry is not very smart, to the point where I am not sure whether I'd rather have it or this Altima's CVT. Just for some perspective. :)
@@matt4398 I don't, however I have rented a latest-gen Camry on two different occasions - a 2018 and a 2019. I got to drive the Altima a few times while wife's car was in the shop, and also got a loaner Altima one other time from the dealership. Also when I had my Lexus, I got a loaner 2019 ES 350, and the programming of the 8-speed in that car is far better than it was in the Camry. Same transmission, too. Just seemed a lot smoother in the Lexus.
i rent a lot of cars, and have had a number of pathfinders and rogue's and a beautiful metallic pearl blue 2020 maxima with the optional 300hp V6 which was fantastic. in the pathfinders, if you get off the lane like you stated, it actually locks up the brakes !! which in the rain is quite scary if your not expecting it + for the people behind you. but i Love the Rogue very much, my rentals last for months, so i do learn quite a bit about the car. your video was spot on ..i just subscribed. keep these coming.
I ended up buying a 20 Nissan altima. I went out looking for a pickup druck and came home with this... It does nothing great... It's not exciting... It's not going to get you dates...lol.. But it does do everything well and serves its purpose... It's a wonderful car for long drives.. As far as the c v t transmission I find that the transmission adapts to your driving style.. And after getting used to it learning how to drive it I like it
P s the info tame and system stinks... You literally cannot shut off the radio getting into the car.. The volume knob on the radios break... So literally every time you start the car up? The radio was at full volume and you can't shut the radio off or turn it down...
@@JohnSmith-ot7iy Most of these failures come from owners who fail to properly maintain their cars according to the maintenance schedule. If the owner's manual says to change the transmission fluid at 60k miles then change at 60k miles or sooner. Trying to squeeze in another 5 to 15k miles will leave you stranded and out of several thousands of dollars when you could just follow instructions and save money, time and inconvenience.
If Nissan could - Get rid of the CVT on their flagship and popular cars (Maxima, Altima, etc.) and replace it with a 8 or 10 speed auto - Offer AWD on the Maxima and the turbo option on the Altima - Actually update their cars in a timely manner (not 10+ years before a refresh) I think people would be more willing to purchase Nissan's again. Everyone I've talked reminiscences about the old Nissan, where they had cool cars and were just as reliable as Toyota or Honda but wouldn't dare step foot in a new Nissan due to what they have become today.
Kevin Jeuong of car reviews. You got a good voice and that smile humor just like him haha.. awesome review bro you’re fast and straightforward nothing wasted here. I like the looks of this thing too except I’m weary of the cvt. However I would think Nissan revised their transmission by now because of all issues people had. Especially with low mileage used Altimas should be considered. I don’t keep cars long anyways at most 5-6 years. By the time a car gets to 80-90k issues will come so I usually trade for a new toy by that timeframe 😎
ive had a bunch of nissan cars and love them.. good on gas safe and reliable for me also i dont mind the cvt at all but yea its weird at first... the e-shifting or trans ratio is using wheel speed and load to adjust the gears. I take off with a bit of gas and then back off teh pedal to get teh trans to get to its lowest ratio and ive increased my versas mpg by 8mpg instead of on of the gas off the gas
I drive a 2017 Nissan Sentra and I had mines in the shop for body work. I was given a rental of a 2022 and I got to be honest. I felt the interior felt cheap compared to my 2017 Sentra which feels more premium. The materials feel even more cheap than the outgoing Altima. I just feel like the car while it rode good and the speakers in the one I had were already going out, it just felt like a cheaply made car.
Seems pretty similarly priced to my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid (33k sticker, paid 26k). Both have CVTs and similar cruise control suite. Except my Honda gets 50+MPG. Idk why anyone would buy the Altima
Hello, I own a 2020 Altima and it gets 50+ mpg on the highway without breaking a sweat. Plus, I have made multiple 8+ hr drives in the car and no fatigue. So to each his own, but I love my non-hybrid car's mpg.
Yea the base model. I’d rather have a fully loaded Altima then a maxima with no custom options. Plus the Altima kinda has better body styling and design.
Stop complaining about CVT’s just because it is different from the standards automatics that have been around since the 50’s. It revs up when you accelerate to give you more power, thereby allowing Nissan to put in a smaller, more efficient engine. Believe it or not, not everyone buys a car based solely on performance. Some of us just need to get around comfortably and efficiently. So stop bitching about CVT’s and try to comprehend what it’s like to be a regular plebeian like the rest of us Mr. “it’s not as fast as my Audi”.
CVT's aren't as rugged or long term reliable as perfected 'old school' automatics, idiot. Many hardworking savvy buyers want reliability too, especially after plunking down 30 grand or more for a vehicle these days!
I have a VW Jetta a European car and to me the 2020 Altima I just rented feels like a better driving car. I want one in my garage, Sweet motor sweet CVT ( not a typo) and good handling with light accurate steering. I think all this jumping on the Altima hate is lemmings hopping on the hate Nissan train.
Thats same 2.5sl with awd will cost you 28k when you go to the dealer or even below 27k if you don't get awd. The s base model at the dealer can be had for 20k.
Such a shame that this car doesn't have a manual option, since imo it looks really great. Manuals shouldn't be tied only with performance vehicles. Plus these driver assists just create worse drivers on the road. I love technologicals advancements, but smartphones are screwing up the roads. All of them should be kept muted with mobile data off. You make great stuff btw Eddie, I still think that you came out way better from the VV split :)
I have a 2010 Altima, and 2013 Pathfinder I'm not a fan of CVT transmission as well, but there are other things about both cars I like, the 2020 Altima looks nice, I never drove one but it Nissan should've kept the the 6 cylinder as well with 270 plus hp.
My daughter owned a 2011 Nissan Altima that the empty console caught on fire and burned the entire front seat area during the night in our driveway. Nissan corporation's response... "it's is older than 4 years so we are not legally obligated to investigate the cause." Lawyer said I would lose thousands trying to sue them for reimbursement and endangering my daughter's life. I WILL NEVER OWN A NISSAN AGAIN!

@@Alex.AL_26 doubt it. I've seen kia hyundai 2.0 turbos go out alot with only 100k miles on it. There hasn't been any widespread issues out of the cvt redesign.
Imagine wasting a Kia Stinger on the 4 cyl
Altima 2.0sr turbo is 26k at my dealer. I doubt you're getting a kia stinger for that cheap plus I felt way more comfortable in the altima compared to the kia and the 2.0sr will pull a higher skid pad number get better mpg and be quicker than the kia. Imagine getting the 4cyl kia and just having a car that looks quick but isn't? Couldve gotten the 6cy turbo but u were being a cheap turd lol
occckid123 I have a Stinger GT with the 6cyl TT and I walked out paying $34k, you can get the fully loaded GTLine 4cyl for as low as $28k
2007 Nissan Altima 2.5s 174,000miles no transmission issues
So true I have a 2012 Altima with 225,000 miles and have never changed the trans fluid and still going strong but I don’t rag it out either, only issues I have had in 6 yes with the car is oil cooler gasket and had to changed coil packs twice👍🏽
2010 Altima here,... never changed the tranny fluid... reached 254k this morning....still running strong.
Test drove this car about 1 week. Ago debating about going with this or a 2017 and up A3. If Nissan got rid of the cvt or at the bare minimum swapped who was making their cvt it would be an easy decision. The SR trim is awesome.
Great review Eddie
Thanks!
Thank you for these POV shots.
This car is very solid and confident to drive, but I wish that it have an automatic transmission, this car with an AT could be top seller
Yeah I almost ended up getting one of these this year I found a 2017 3.5SR for $12k with 30k miles......but this was a really good review though
For such a low price on a 3.5 SR, which is a rare engine choice, it would've been a steal.
good choice!
With a clean carfax?

Do you own either?
@@matt4398 I don't, however I have rented a latest-gen Camry on two different occasions - a 2018 and a 2019. I got to drive the Altima a few times while wife's car was in the shop, and also got a loaner Altima one other time from the dealership.
Also when I had my Lexus, I got a loaner 2019 ES 350, and the programming of the 8-speed in that car is far better than it was in the Camry. Same transmission, too. Just seemed a lot smoother in the Lexus.
I like the 2016 the best year in my opinion because they clame to have corrected 2015 trans mission so it’s really ahead of its time
I have a 2014 S model and I love it. I wish it was faster but that things goes. Very quiet ride but road noise can be intrusive
Go Eddie Go!!👌👍👍
i rent a lot of cars, and have had a number of pathfinders and rogue's and a beautiful metallic pearl blue 2020 maxima with the optional 300hp V6 which was fantastic. in the pathfinders, if you get off the lane like you stated, it actually locks up the brakes !! which in the rain is quite scary if your not expecting it + for the people behind you. but i Love the Rogue very much, my rentals last for months, so i do learn quite a bit about the car. your video was spot on ..i just subscribed. keep these coming.
I'm about to buy my first car and this is what I am wanting. With physical job thos seats are amazing
What did you buy ?
I have a 2021 altima Platinum AWD and I love it.
I dont get why everyone hates on the CVT. I have no problems with it on our 2009 altima.
Because it fails at alarmingly high rates. You are lucky. My advice, get rid of the car before you become a victim
Kaylon Centers yeah no. Nissan makes an absolute shit transmission and they are involved in a huge class action lawsuit because of it.
Kaylon Centers the transmissions fail before 60k lol
If Nissan could
- Get rid of the CVT on their flagship and popular cars (Maxima, Altima, etc.) and replace it with a 8 or 10 speed auto
- Offer AWD on the Maxima and the turbo option on the Altima
- Actually update their cars in a timely manner (not 10+ years before a refresh)
I think people would be more willing to purchase Nissan's again. Everyone I've talked reminiscences about the old Nissan, where they had cool cars and were just as reliable as Toyota or Honda but wouldn't dare step foot in a new Nissan due to what they have become today.
Or at least use a reliable CVT and not the Jatco one that breaks by 50K miles
@@Alex.AL_26 I got over 60k on my cvt so far. It's the second transmission haha ,the first went @ 62k
35 grand? Just buy a used updated 2019 maxima!
Nobody pays MSRP at the nissan lot they always give deals and discounts that's why they still sell well regardless of known issues.
Lex better
Totally! Was able to get a 2020 Accord Sport 2.0 for just over 27K. Blows this Altima out of the water, lol.
@@pmiahky it definitely does

Sounds like a pretty interesting option and I’m not even that big of an Nissan fan
I wasn’t a Nissan fan until I sat in a Murano!
I am so right there with you with the "CVT." It should be either a true auto OR manual. I have a 2020 Versa manual and love it
just got this as my first car at 19 not bad
I love the mpg. I love that my Iphone automatically paired with it. I didn't like the road noise much.
you can take that off
I drive a 2017 Nissan Sentra and I had mines in the shop for body work.
Because outside of the sport trim your Accord looks like shit.
U can get a 2020 Nissan Maxima for that price
Yea the base model. I’d rather have a fully loaded Altima then a maxima with no custom options. Plus the Altima kinda has better body styling and design.
@@andresquiroz3155 I'll take the maxima fuck it if its base model. 3.5lt engine even the base looks okay anyways
😂😂🤣🤣 Don't be so upset
Like cmon now so many f’ing plebs bro
CVT's aren't as rugged or long term reliable as perfected 'old school' automatics, idiot. Many hardworking savvy buyers want reliability too, especially after plunking down 30 grand or more for a vehicle these days!
For $35k, I’d expect it to come with the 2.0T smh :/
I have a VW Jetta a European car and to me the 2020 Altima I just rented feels like a better driving car.
I want one in my garage, Sweet motor sweet CVT ( not a typo) and good handling with light accurate steering. I think all this jumping on the Altima hate is lemmings hopping on the hate Nissan train.
big altima energy
Thank you broski I’m trying to find my first car
Thats same 2.5sl with awd will cost you 28k when you go to the dealer or even below 27k if you don't get awd. The s base model at the dealer can be had for 20k.
I mean it’s my favorite car but like it would blow mines to damage that screen pointing up like that I would have to see it and have the money
You make great stuff btw Eddie, I still think that you came out way better from the VV split :)
no one is going to buy a manual Altima
@@oneafteranother4588 In Europe people would
What's with the screen and dashboard flashing?
Love and Hate are two emotions I don’t think this car could possibly give you. It’s a Meh vehicle as ever made! At least they offer a turbo I guess.
More regular car reviews
I shall work on that! Driving a Chevy Bolt this week
nice Altima but I prefer the V6 300 hp Maxima but if I was to get this it has to be the Platinum VC-turbo
Well duh, any Maxima is better than an Altima lol
Why did the instument panels and radio shake all the time?
While this car isn't at the top of my list, I have reduced how much I dislike this car by quite a bit. I'm interested in it.
Oh, you should bet one. My 2020 base Altima get 40 plus MPG. That's hybrid territory and I ditch my 2016 Accord LX which only get 35MPG at best.
I just bought one for 24,000 and it’s a good car n does the job
Transmission didn’t fail?
It's basically a decent family grocery getter. Enough about the CVT, nissan's not giving a shit.
Curb hop at 03:14
As much as I like the brand and aesthetics of that car, I just can't do a car under 300 horsepower.
I'm getting 25.6 MPG in my SR, all city driving.
Lucky you I get 15 mpg in a v6 murano 2017..
I work on these at work lol 😂
Are they good cars?
Nice car nice features but I rather have that Maxima it have more horsepower & heat & cooling seats & panel roofs
How r the paddle shifters?
How is night driving you though, my 15 Altima S is going through headlight issues.
Time to get led...i just changed mine 3 months ago and give had my Altima 6 yrs
CVT is absolute trash and was designed to make cars disposable. (I own 2015 Altima with CVT and it failed completely at 75000 miles (ca. 120,701 km)).
Got a ad in Spanish for a Camry when I clicked.
I got a GM one
How long did the CVT last?
The Camry makes over 200 horse from its 2.5 and we all know it will last a lot longer than the Nissan engine
Buts it’s 0-60 is slower than the Altima because of the Altima engine tuning and cvt
Seth Little sure. Toyota for me tho all the way
android 95203 Yeah but Toyota is made in Japan.
I have a 2010 Altima, and 2013 Pathfinder I'm not a fan of CVT transmission as well, but there are other things about both cars I like, the 2020 Altima looks nice, I never drove one but it Nissan should've kept the the 6 cylinder as well with 270 plus hp.
Interior looks a like Honda Accord .
I love the SV model🥰🥰🥰
How many cars do you have? Are you in competition with Jay Leno?
I have 2 cars…lol
Not even close to his level
Dudes dad has a low option fusion but this guy has a 45k truck and wants a fun sports car for the weekends.... wtf?
What's your confusion here?...
Did he just say this has an MSRP of 35k? For a 2.5lt altima? Lmao!!!!!
4:13 Is that the sound of the vibration motor when not causing such a rattle?
For the platinum trim I don't think your getting enough for the money
Do all of the 2020 Altimas have the zero gravity seats? I have a bad back so seat comfort might be the most important feature to me.
Yes, all trims.
Black people gonna love this
Conclusion: it’s would be a better Nissan if they go with DCT Tranmission like Hyundai and stop using beep chime in 2020.
When I sat in the car the seat seams to be low where you can’t see the road. Is that just the seat adjustment or for all car?
Has a seat adjustment to bring you up
Its a low riding car with a wide turning raduis.
