My birthday is on Christmas Eve too..this is exactly how it feels to be caught in the midst of Christmas celebrations! Everyone only remembers your birthday as an afterthought and is always away on holidays so there's no one around to celebrate :(

Gosh! I love your shorts! I like how you take all these relatively "little" things in life and just focus in on em'. There are plenty of stories to tell from everyone's lives and plenty of experiences from a single story. I think you convey this very well. I think a great example is "Komorebi" (which I absolutely love).
Christmas Eve is exactly my B-day... I'm so used to just let it pass by... I mean, even trying to call a friend for a drink will NEVER work out.
I think it's the first time in my life I see this feeling being interpreted with so much precision.

This really resonates with me more than I expected. Even though my birthday is Jan 6 I still had this kind of issue. People were still out of town on my actual birthday or busy with something (namely going back to school in the last like 5 years). So, like her, I lowered my expectations for my friends to celebrate my birthday or doing something special.
Idk why I started crying when she walked in the room! It’s so beautiful how her friends especially the guy did that for her.
I was a little excited from the beginning hoping that this was a foreign language shorts like “Love Lock” and other shorts. But still very touching (as a restaurant kid).
I'm glad that after all these years, y'all are sticking to your roots! I respect y'all so much wong fu! Keep it up!

lol. my birthday is actually on xmas eve, so i can relate to how she feels. i've grown up now and it doesnt bother me anymore. there's always going to be someone else in a worse scenario in life, so not celebrating my birthday seems insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah, I was curious what was in the box as well. However, I was rewatching the scene, and I don't think it was the main focus of what was in the box. It was placed more for situational irony, when Jill said, "no gifts," (it then pans to the gift box) because she didn't want to burden people to celebrate her birthday on Christmas. It highlights the fact that she actually does want her birthday to be celebrated but she puts on airs to stay strong.
Yeah the gift was a red herring. The timing of it was that while he had a gift to acknowledge her, he realized on this bday she needed something more than a present as a gift, but actions to feel gifted.

This skit is very relatable for me. As a person who was born on Christmas, I have went through that phase of feeling that my birthday disappears because of how special Christmas is. I used to complain even towards my parents but now I think differently. I feel thankful to meet up with my family every year on Christmas rather than spending it alone. Great video Wong Fu!

I've watched so many WFP videos and I guess the one overall critique I have of their videos is this. The dialogue seems forced. I feel as if this isn't an issue with individual actors but a larger issue? Incorporating a sense of spontaneity would really bring great WFP videos to the next level.

Thank you for making this film. My birthday doesn't fall on Christmas, but as a December baby, birthdays have always been a little tricky. From bundled gifts to not being able to see people due to Christmas planning with others. This year for me is especially difficult because of the new people I live with and how far away from home I am. I kinda gave up on celebrating my birthday where I am because of the inconvenience it places on others.
Watching this made me cry, especially when I found out I share the same name as the character, just made it hit harder with the parallels I find in my life and in this short.

OMG I relate to this video sooooo much! Having a birthday on a holiday is awesome don't get me wrong, but it also means that no one has time to show up. Its always either super early or pushed back really far and your gifts always get put together with holiday gifts, like wtf just because my birthday is on a holiday it doesn't mean that it can be pushed to the side with all of the other holiday celebrations. Anyway, thanks again for this video it really warmed my heart and happy holidays to all!

It’s 2am and I’m crying! This hits so close to home coz my birthday is December 21st and Christmas parties everywhere. No such thing as birthday gift AND Christmas gift. Always a two in one present. It’s sad when people greet you merry Christmas/ happy holidays but not happy birthday coz it’s forgotten due to the festivities. Merry birthday to me :’)

@@mescellaneous I mean sure, it's not unlikely that they are working on something bigger rn and these shorts are not their biggest priority but there have been Wong Fu product placement videos with more interesting stories before (eg the simplehuman video) so I wouldn't say that bc it's "just an ad" it's gonna automatically be not as interesting. Of course we can't expect masterpieces every time they post, I just felt a bit underwhelmed by this video.
to be fair, this is only a 7 minute short. there's way too little time to have a long progression in the characters. wong fu had to reach a conclusion within 7 minutes and the way they did it was actually very nice and short.

hey wongfu!! I've been following you guys for almost 10 years now and I've loved all your content :) I think this one is great too - cool way to integrate the product into the video. I gotta say though, I think the script was a little off. The main female character almost came off as... annoying? like kinda passive aggressive about her birthday for the whole film. and also, her friends who came for her surprise party didn't really seem like friends either, it was almost as if they were strangers hired to show up to her birthday haha (unless that was intended). Anyway, just wanted to give some constructive feedback! Still a fan as always :)

Did anyone else find this to be just okay? Even as an 8 minute short, I found it to be, meh. The acting was okay, the story was predictable, etc. I don't see what the big deal is. Wong Fu has done much better stuff. I also thought the "half birthday half Christmas" was just tacky. Just make it a whole birthday party.

I relate to this so much, my birthday’s on December 24 too. Once when I was younger, I invited 20 or so people to my birthday party and only 3 people could make it since everyone else was overseas for the holidays. My birthday’s always the birthday/Christmas joint party with joint presents but I didn’t mind that much
