Personally I wish to see more civilization/site relations. Better diplomacy (agreements, treaties, trade relations that are bigger than just site-to-site), better war (borders/war fronts, a way to control armies abroad, battles outside of sites like if an army intercepts another, multi-side wars), NPC civs expanding not only via conquest but also via new settlements, ways for new civs to be founded such as secession, revolutions, colonies declaring independence, non-colony settlements (for example if a trading company decides to found a big trading hub without any sponsoring from a civ, and as the decades pass they turn into a civ themselves)
previously i thought myth and magic was just going to be healing potions and some fireball spells. i did not know they were planning to do alternate worlds colliding, altering the map. thats pretty wild.
@ Doesn't make a difference, I was pointing out the developer, in this video said several times. And has said several times. I'll fix my mistake, but I imagine you won't fix yours. Ultimately it looks like a TH-cam mistake, I was replying which did @ as well in this chat.
I just uploaded a clip from that one DF Talk episode where toady generates a Myth in his Myth Generator Prototype and just reads what this thing has generated. Back when I heard it for the first time it has blown me away. Check it out if you have not heard that DF Talk Episode.
A thing that I've been bothered intensely about when i discovered theres a severe lack of- when a mountain beast attacked my grasslands with fire breath, i realized theres no real mechanics to deal with and control fire, especially firefighting even with buckets and water and i find that intensely poor to lack in such a complex game.
If military have drinks in water skins those will put out fires that ignite them. I also often try to have areas that are prepared for fights that may contain fire. If there's water on the ground just a small amount will cause all the fire to be extinguished before the dwarves are ignited. It's all about player preparation.
WELL the magic system one, was REALLY nice, it basically laid out a general magic system, and was nice. It got me inspired, not that i like magic, but I LOVE Stargate and other 'magic' ideas.
12:13 "There's the whole notion of the game becoming aware that it's in a magical universe, which it doesn't do very well right now." What does he mean by this?
One thing that bugs me is, for example you build a workshop, you then have to open the build and workshop menus again when you want a different workshop/construction/furniture. Instead of just keeping the menu open. I know it's a small thing but it's the only annoyance I have that I don't really see come up. And if there is a setting I can change i have not found it
Honestly I would have wanted to ask Toady if he plans to also have ruins as sites to discover in the sea that feels really barren which should probably have undead mobs in it that can swim and attack more easily. Things like ships ruins and long forgotten structures with preferably a new chest item to hide the loot in.
Traveling over the Sea is on the roadmap and as far as I remember require the map rewrite to be in place. Currently the Sea does not generate all too much (and it is not really deep at all I think). Wasn't there a question about under water stuff in the last few FotF Replies? Why a new chest item, there are chests in the game already.
@boatoflol ah.. the new chest is because I assume that old places like that should have unique items like that you can bring back as decorations which cannot be crafted. It sorta would add to the mystic that it was by some unknown civilization and it will be good probably for home decoration in adventure mode until Toady releases a full system that includes stone and the rest, like it will add you stuff to do and seek other than murder hobo gear. Is it a bad idea?
As Tarn mentioned, it introduces copyright issues as most LLMs are trained on copyrighted material. That could put the devs at risk of facing lawsuits, which could put the existance of DF itself at risk. I am so sick of hearing about AI and LLMs, I don't want it in DF.
Copyright/ownership concerns, use of data used without permission (potentially infringement, allegedly) that's enough for me not to lean on it as a core technology. I am enjoying the services when useful, while they last, in their current forms. I think theirs more sound reasons to stay out of it than go all in as an indie dev, even a successful one with coin to burn.
@@Mookster28 But it is possible to create a model that is not trained on copyright material. I don’t see a problem with the technology itself in this case. The neural network method of content generation itself seems to me potentially more interesting than procedural generation.
I guess I could see if i could find the information. Early on Toady said: "Cabin" as if it was a important idea, but does not make sense to me. Thanks so much dwarf community, for loving us who are fans, but are outside the realm.
Sorry I can't seem to find the exact time stamp. Searching seems to note dwellings', or a house. A 3x4 or whatever size people like to build their housing blocks.

as a new player who still stuck in tutorial I would like better (simpler easiser)menu/ ui and maybe some grafic upgrades elvation is still confusing . ALso hope in the FAR future 3d mod maybe or just more detailed 2d like Stoneshard grafics
You used to be able to add a graphics package for fonts, in the old version. I wonder if in this version you can *ahem* add in the StoneShard graphics files and link it, unfortunately prob 1k tiles vs 5k for dwarf.
Holy fuck. Astix just goes on...why would you pick his essay bs? Just to fill in time to make the video worth it? Shits just one run on sentence. Not sure if it's you or who you're reading but this is terrible
Why would I pick it? Because I read all the posts for the month unless they're completely irrelevant. This was what was written this is what I read. Such is the way of the future of the fortress if you don't like it don't watch this series.

Oh hell yeah, I second this.
+++++++
Seconding this as well. I think when the focus of development will lie more on Economy (and Military) many of your points become very plausible.
Absolutely. Having more ways to interact with the world in Fortress Mode would be super cool.
"trade relationships that are bigger than just site to site" ??? how.
previously i thought myth and magic was just going to be healing potions and some fireball spells. i did not know they were planning to do alternate worlds colliding, altering the map. thats pretty wild.
This sounds like the Myth side of things, I imagine some of those are ideas, or convergence of wanting to improve world generation.
I wonder if we will be actually able to keep our existing worlds and saves after that update.
Tarn mentioned several times in this update, that that save integrity was super important to him. Although I imagine its not as easy.
@@micaiahstevens notch? The developer of DF is Tarn Adams not Notch.

Hmm,... seems like a bad idea to try to extinguish a fire using Dwarven rum. :)
Hi Blind!
I love these update videos. And I love to see the game continuing to come together after so many years!
Its been a while, but i admittedly must exclaim "POG!"
boy some of these folk really want to be an "ideas guy" dev
WELL the magic system one, was REALLY nice, it basically laid out a general magic system, and was nice. It got me inspired, not that i like magic, but I LOVE Stargate and other 'magic' ideas.
Appreciate these, it makes for an interesting and easily digestible watch.
Good lord, that dude needs to write his own novel instead of expecting DF to do it for him.
12:13 "There's the whole notion of the game becoming aware that it's in a magical universe, which it doesn't do very well right now."
What does he mean by this?
It means that the world should logically react to the magic that is present in it. Eg mass available teleportation changing infrastructure, etc.
One thing that bugs me is, for example you build a workshop, you then have to open the build and workshop menus again when you want a different workshop/construction/furniture. Instead of just keeping the menu open.

Maybe with weird potions you could convince other sentient creatures to try it for you.

I just want a Work Orders overhaul/update
Still think the library should really be fleshed out it's a fun mechanics that just need to be functional at least.
