I grew up in south Jersey and growing up, I only knew of Bethlehem because of the striking workers tape on the news (begging for gifts) and Allentown (Billy Joel song). Moved there when I met my husband and often felt I was in the Lost Valley (I grew up in the Delaware Valley). Happy we moved up to the Poconos!

Lancasterian here, my Husband and I just booked two nights next month for our Anniversary at Historic Hotel Bethlehem, looking forward to it. Nice video, your fervor for your part of PA is appreciated, I also love all our history here in Lancaster and the Moravian influence in Lititz, PA. It looks like Allentown has cleaned up a bit since the last time I was in that area. We like road trips and Historic hotels when we travel and we have done many road trips in our home State Pennsylvania, I believe that Pennsylvania is one of the most beautiful States in the union and WE DO HAVE THE BEST FOOD!!! We took a road trip to Charleston, SC, we thought the food is BETTER IN PA!

Hotel Bethlehem is great! Not only is it a beautiful facility, the location can’t be beat. You should take advantage of the tours offered in order to explore the Moravian roots. I thought wouldn’t like it but I found it fascinating. And BTW, we love to visit Lancaster too. It’s always a destination when the German relatives come!

Thank you, we are only staying two nights and are planning to visit USA Kilts on the way, as I have Scottish Lowland Border Reiver Clan roots, Clan Bell always shows up for the Clan parade in Bethlehem in December.
Have you ever taken the German relatives to the Ephrata Cloisters in you guessed it Ephrata, PA, or the Hans Herr House in West Lampeter Twp? My roots are much more ScotsIrish than German; however, I have traced my Maternal side Germans to 1700 in York, County to a Georg Uhrig shortened to George Urey by his Son.

Fun Fact for you Allentown was originally known as Northampton Town it was only changed a few years later after being Founded by Willaim Allen as the city people changed it due to newcomers settling down in the city would always ask whose town is this as locals would say Allens Town as that's how Allentown got its name. Willaim Allens original house is in the Lehigh Valley as well.
Sorry to correct you but the ThunderHawk rollercoaster at Dorney Park isn't the oldest wooden roller coaster in the world "Leap-the-Dips" located in Altoona PA dates back to 1902 and holds the record as the Oldest Wooden Roller Coaster in the World still active to this day. Oldest ride at Dorney Park is "The Whip" built in 1920.

You’re not from here, Are you?….Because people with generational ties to the valley will tell you it’s going downhill with the giant ugly warehouses being built everywhere, And due to thousands of implanted people from New Jersey and New York bringing The increase in crime, The terrible traffic, The cost of housing is also going insanely expensive…. I’m guessing you will delete this post. But that’s the truth.🤷‍♂️

Grew up in Allentown in the 60s and 70s. It was a lot nicer place before they finished I-78 across NJ to Newark.

Several problems with living in Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania:....Every field is turning into a cookie cutter housing development.. The roads are still simple country roads where they should be four-lanes to handle the traffic which is horrendous. Local state parks are filled beyond capacity each weekend by the influx of New Jersey and New York tourists. Real estate prices are unbelievable despite the fact that values are up across the country, here they are asking for twice the money that real estate goes for in the center of the state. For $100K you might get an old trailer on a 3/4 acre lot .You better have a nice bank account or a very good job if you're moving here....And learn Spanish !!
