Hello Dr. Your new subscriber here! My mom has recently been diagnosed with herniated disc because of doing plank and push ups with her high weight. Her doctor mentioned doing isometric neck exercises from TH-cam. Are these good for her or do you suggest another video of yours? Thank you!!
Also I would really appreciate if you have any tips for my mom. We already got her a pillow, is there any thing that we can get to improve her condition? Money is not an issue btw. Thank you
I’ve been suffering for years with pain from my herniated discs. After coming across this video & reading the comments, it’s really comforting to know I’m not alone. I’m gonna try these exercises out. I hope they help. 🤞🏼
I just visited an orthopedic surgeon about my herniated disc that's pinching a nerve at C6 and C7. He told me there really isn't any therapy or anything that will fix the disc. The therapy seems to alleviate the inflammation sometimes, but otherwise you can't actually fix the herniation. I just have to practice good form in the gym and in my activities, have good posture, and make sure I'm sleeping in a neutral position for the rest of my life. OR get a disc replacement if it continues to bother me.
I'm so happy I found you! I had a cervical hernia operation planned for March (after a year of not getting better) but it was postponed due to COVID-19, and after 2 months off of work, doing these exercises plus a few others and some gentle yoga & pilates & tai chi (and getting a lot of movement running after my 3 year old), I don't think I need surgery anymore!!! Thanks, Dr. Jo!
Yes please tell me if you had to do surgery or not? My disks are bulging and pressing my Cervical spine. There's no space between disk and my servical nerve around C5 -C6. So Should I try this or not? Doctors are recomending Surgery PCDF or ACDF. I'm 21, boy. Please answer.

I think you helped me sort of diagnose my own suspicion. I hypochondriac ishly suspect I had a slipped disc in my neck but now I think it’s just my trapezius’ and levator scapulas, as they aaaaache when doing those portions, but felt so much better after! Thank you so much. as soon as I have medical insurance again I’m seeing a Dr but in the meantime stretches are helping with the pain and tightness. Thank you.
I haven’t been able to feel my hands or arms for months. Neck pain had me in the doctors office last week. I’m looking at an injection and possible surgery. I just did these exercises while watching the video. I will be doing these daily. Has anyone not had surgery for a herniated disc that is pinching nerves and was able to live without pain?
hi Doctor Jo i am suffering now a Neck Slip Disc and i found 8n google your page so from now im starting to follow your exercise. I hope that you can advise or guide with more excercise. I am scared to have a aurgery. god bless you...
Dude! I have 2 disc bulges and 1 protrusion and the towel stretch instantly gave me relief, a week of physio with chin tucks and scapula stretches, plus this towel one is incredible. Unfortunately I need to quit jiu jitsu after 7 years because the risk is too high. But atleast I’m not in pain now!
Hi! The neurosurgeon who follows my case (haven't had surgery) told me not to do activities where my neck would go in the extension position (such as boxing or skydiving) but I was wondering if the extension exercises here would be fine since it's gentle?
I find certain strokes particularly painful a few hours later, and pain radiating down my arms in the night. Certain angles/motions tend to aggravate the area. I swim regularly and find that a gentle 'back stroke' is easier on that compromised area. Everyone's body and need is different. Just food for thought from a sufferer!@@AskDoctorJo
I have been in pain since 20 years, and tried out several treatments but nothing has given me relief. will definitely try these exercises out. Also please suggest some easy no pain sleeping ways if possible. Because every morning I wake up in upper body pain. And should I use a pillow? My pillow is a pretty flat feathered pillow. Please suggest. And yes. I’ve subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing. I have a video that might give you some ideas for sleeping positions: th-cam.com/video/qZeosT6aGx8/w-d-xo.html As far as pillows, it needs to keep your neck in a neutral position, so your muscles are not straining while you are sleeping, so it might be worth looking into a new one.
I have muscular dystrophy and I often have issues with herniated discs. I am glad I found your videos. Very helpful exercises to reduce pain. Thank you very much!
Thanks for these tips ... should help me with my 78 yr old golf swing, hopefully to help relief with L4 & L5 related problems where I developed hernia issues years ago.
Doctor Jo, when I sleep in any position, even on my side with my arm under my head it feels like my discs are being pushed out. I don't get this while I'm vertical, only while laying down. What position should I sleep in, and how do I do it right?
Whoa! These actually worked! And I only did half of them. I was able to get a night's sleep without waking up from pain. For 7 months, I had been afraid to look up (like, ever), because I believed this compresses the herniated discs, making things worse. Now I know how to do it correctly.
Thanks for your instructions and your lovely energy. Are these (in principal) safe for someone who has also cervical spinal stenosis in addition to herniated cervical discs?
You're welcome, and thanks. Most of them would be similar. With stenosis, generally it's best to avoid big extension (leaning your head back) movements.
Hi doc i have disc herniation on my spinal cord c3 c4 , c4 c5.. my i can still move well and work, but hav tingling and numbness in both hands and feet but more on the left part.. can i do your stretches? Spexially using that towel on the neck.. thank u..
Unfortunately, I really don't know since I can't evaluate you. As long as your doctor has cleared you for stretches and exercises, they should be okay.

Thank you.
You're welcome.
Mam. I've been doing this since past 10 days. My pain has visibly reduced ( also with IFT treatment) thank you

Thanks! Good luck with PT school. It's tough, but totally worth it!
Glad it helped.
Thank u mam these exercises really helped very much ..
You're welcome.
Thanks very much for these exercises
You're welcome.
Hi! The neurosurgeon who follows my case (haven't had surgery) told me not to do activities where my neck would go in the extension position (such as boxing or skydiving) but I was wondering if the extension exercises here would be fine since it's gentle?
Thank you Doctor; The neck exercises helps in the middle of my sleepless nights (pinch nerve in my cervical disk) to rest a little better each night 😁
You're welcome.
It's really beneficial. Thanks Dr. Jo.
You're welcome.
I was having neck problems for almost a month now it and this video helps me more than anything I did before thank you for your helpful tips.
You're welcome.
just to let you know, my spine doctor gave me the link for this video, so your good efforts are being recognized
Thanks.
One more my dearest Dr Joo..
What kind of style of swimming that recommend for HNP cervical (disc bulging)..?
Again thank you so much😘
Any one should be fine as long as it doesn't increase pain.
I have a C3-C4 issue
@@ld6340 do you swim?
I need this for my daily routine exercises, after my 8wks surgery acdf thanks for sharing 🙏
You're welcome.
Absolutely wonderful advise ❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏
Thanks!
I love your channel! You love your job and it shows, Very intelligent! You get to help so many people like me, thanks ❤

You're welcome. Good luck.
Thank you so much for exercising
You're welcome.
Thank you so much doctor. It really works for me
You're welcome.
Thanks for demonstrating these wonderful exercises. They are really helping. :)
You're welcome!
Should you do all the exercises at one time? Every day, or a few times a week?
Doctor Jo, when I sleep in any position, even on my side with my arm under my head it feels like my discs are being pushed out. I don't get this while I'm vertical, only while laying down. What position should I sleep in, and how do I do it right?
Would you suggest doing all 10 of the exercises in one session?
Appreciated Dr. very effective exercises Thank you
Thanks, and you're welcome.
You are a hero! Thank you so much!
You're welcome! 😎
All loves and thanks to u dear

Unfortunately, I really don't know since I can't evaluate you. As long as your doctor has cleared you for stretches and exercises, they should be okay.
