    Nail tech here, Your cuticles are the dead skin on your nail plate. They must be removed for any nail enhancement service. However she is cutting the eponycium which is the living skin that most times covers the cuticle, so it must be pushed back but never cut. No nail technician with a license is permitted to cut the skin and it is a crime to do so. Even if this doesn’t hurt (it is because the nerves are not present) it can still cause infection. This look is still achievable with out cutting with consistent use of cuticle oil to keep the skin moisturized and regular manicures to keep the skin from being stretched by the nail plate. (This can happen when the nail grows if the skin is very stuck to the nail). She is allowed to cut her own skin, its her body and she has avoided infection thus far. The problem arises where she tells other people that they have to do this to have beautiful nails. She fails to understand that most people would do this and fail to follow the correct procedures as they haven’t been properly educated and will most likely cause problems for themselves. There are so many problems you can cause without even knowing it by doing your own nails improperly because of lack of knowledge. It is extremely unprofessional on her part especially if she does have a license because that means she has been educated to the possibilities. I encourage people to explore their passions. Push back your skin, gently file your cuticles (the white dead skin) away in one direction with a non abrasive hand file, wipe the nail with alcohol, and paint them using thin layers of polish, then use cuticle oil to rehydrate your skin around the nail. Never cut your skin at home. You can have beautiful nails without damaging your skin and nails. When removing your nails dont rip them or pry them off, use acetone to remove them. If you have gel or acrylic enhancements, gently file the top layer off and then soak with acetone. Be gentle on your nail plate. Overfilling, ripping, and stabbing your nail plate can sometimes cause irreversible damage. Using a drill bit like she did in the video can cause immense damage to the system that creates your nail and can stop it from working (stopping your nail from growing), if you do not know how to properly use it. She should simply say, non professionals are not supposed to practice these actions as it can result in damage.

    Don't obliterate your cuticles like she does. Your cuticles exist to protect your nail bed from infection. Don't use an efile on them. And don't lift or detach them from the nail like she does. Just push them back and trim a tiny bit if necessary.

    • @Call-me-Al
      @Call-me-Al ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@angelicbeauty2695 it's an eastern european trend i think? Probably originally from women who worked with their hands a lot still wanting to get their nails done and having a lot of excess dead skin there.
      I don't do it to the degree she does because that would be painful to me, but I usually have to (hand)file some skin on the sides of my nails (not the skin directly adhering the sides of the nail to the skin) as they tend to build up for me if I wash my hands too often and don't religiously moisturize my hands. I used to have a lot of excessive dead cuticle when I was much younger and didn't take care of my hands well, because the cuticles kept partially detaching and kept getting rigid and painful and ripping. So i used to do more extreme cuticle pushback and trimming because that directly helped me from getting as injured around the cuticles. But having the luxury of protecting my hands better and finding hand moisturizers that aren't too weak and useless has radically improved my hand skin health. Especially during winters.

      @@angelicbeauty2695it should only be done when u SEE the overgrown dead skin. It’s dead skin, so it should not hurt and is fine. in her case, it seems she does her nails often and does not skip trimming them in any of the times (I could be wrong; I’m basing that on acc and how her cuticles looks) it looked already trimmed and to still do it is so not healthy, which is why in the next clip, it looks irritated.

    I’ve been removing my own eponychium (because that’s the correct term) for 12 years and I’ve never had issues. Yes, I agree that it can be risky at a salon, but if you go to an experienced nail tech that is careful and hygienic, nothing will happen to your nail health. It’s a personal choice, too, that might be influenced by how “clean” you want your nails to look.

      Chemical dead cell removal is best, as only the excess skin gets removed. Like those primarily urea dead skin removal liquids that you're supposed to apply to the area for a few minutes with a thin layer of cotton, and then you scrape/brush off the dead skin and then moisturize. You err on the safe side that way.

    A gentle push to your cuticle will suffice. Using a cuticle drill bit will also be alright. Try your best not to drill onto your actual flesh though. I myself never use a cuticle nipper to cut off any dead skin. Naturally, if you push your cuticle back often(for me about once a week, or every other week) it doesn't need to be cut off because it will look beautiful, regardless. ♡ nail primer should be used after a dehydrator. Let the dehydrator dry completely before putting on your primer. When you put your primer on, DO NOT TOUCH NAILS. Also, DO NOT immediately apply builder gel, or acrylic. Wait a few minutes to make sure the primer dries fully. This is what will help with lifting, and as always, DON'T GET ANY ON YOUR SKIN.
    Suggestion: after completing and using some cuticle oil. I always use some nice hand cream to rub onto my fingers and hands. Nobody likes an Oily glossy ass finger. It gets rid of the glossy oily look, and looks, nicer. In my opinion.

My nails would not stop breaking before this. I also added a multi vitamin to my diet. They do break less with some nail polish or top coat too because it’s reinforcing the strength of the nail. Hope this helps and good luck!

    • @Call-me-Al
      @Call-me-Al ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really what you're born with but what your hands are like/get subjected to. Skin that gets treated poorly roughen up and can't shed dead skin as well anymore, that is why this cuticle treatment came to be: thanks to people with too rough and excessive dry cuticles that are prone to injury if not treated. If your hands get too exposed to cold weather for instance then that damages and dries out your skin too much, which makes it (and the cuticles) grow coarser. Best is to just treat one's hands well so that they don't need to get this rough mechanical treatment - protecting them from extreme weather and keeping your skin well moisturized.
      Someone treating not rough cuticles this way is absolutely horrid and I am so sorry the nail tech didn't actually pay attention to your skin but just behaved as if you had a lot of dead buildup despite that obviously not being the case.

    I have to disagree on the nail length. Why? Because my nail beds are all different lengths. And some people may have longer fingers. For example my middle finger is longer. But the nail bed on my index and ring finger are different lengths. My index has the shortest nail bed in both my hands. I'm pretty sure it may be shorter than my pinky finger's nail bed. So if you look at nail bed length to smile line tip ratio it wouldn't work nor would it make any sense on me. And I have fairly long nail beds. Not super tiny ones. And sure you can make nails as long as you want but sometimes if you get too far from that perfect ratio it starts to look more like a claw or a prop than an actual healthy and clean nail. I'm not an expert but I sure am an expert about my nails.

You can try another primer from a reputable brand and if it looks the same as your first one, they should both be good. I'm not sure what you mean by "oily," but you should be using very little (I squeeze out the brush completely on the rim, then use it for as many fingers as I can, which is usually 3 or 4, before dipping again). Don't apply more than one thin layer, unlike what she says in the video, it's incorrect. You don't have to apply it perfectly like its polish or something, just don't get it on your skin.

      If it leads to infections and pain, the cuticle wasn't cut in a correct way, the actual skin was traumatized. The whole "out body wouldn't grow it if it wasn't necessary" is a weird concept overall. Don't exfoliate your skin then, don't cut your nails, don't cut your hair etc.

      You don't need cuticle scissors. Just push them back. Cuticles need only the barest trimming, if at all. But the "aesthetic" is this Russian manicure look where the cuticles are almost completely removed. It's very unhealthy and risks nail infection and cuticles growing back thicker than ever.

      @@Wwydnhave you tried any cuticle oils? It could help to seal the moisture and soften the cuticle, so it wont break or hurt as much. I'm currently using my own mix, but I loooved the one from Baehr, a bit pricey, but worked miracles and lasted awhile.
      My cuticle is okay on the center, but skin on the side fold, especially close to the free edge, is really rough and dry, breaks in and it builds up very quickly. I put on oil (little goes a long way!) every night before bed and massage every fingertip for a few sec, plus couple more times a day after a fresh manicure lol, top it of with a handcream a minute later. And I usually do it almost straight after washing my hands, while the skin feels a bit damp. It doesn't make the problem go away, but it looks and feels better for longer time.
      Also, you can try a cuticle remover gel instead of scissors. It's much more gentle, but still may work for you
