As a Lalafell player myself, I was very happy to see that traitor get what he deserved. We only accept conspiring against the tallfolk, not other Lalafells!
I remember seeing this scene for my own character. I screamed and cheered. It had been a long time since I wanted a character dead. Was very... cathartic.
The fact that this is just the beginning of the story makes me really look forward to asmon clearing all the content at his own pace. What a ride

@@StealthMaster5k the foundation for every expansion begins in ARR. The Dravanian threat, the Ala Mihgans and Domans, you can start to see the thinning aether that will eventually lead to the 8th umbral Calamity, and the crystal tower. It's all in ARR.

Seeing my own character in the midst of this George R.R. Martin-esque drama made the experience all the more intriguing and eye-widening. Games don't always succeed pulling you in like that. But XIV does for sure.
@@ExceedProduction Totally. Really It's iconic for the benchmark. But somehow i had other/lower expectations just because it's an mmo. XIV sets a good example for immersive mmo world building through narration.

To an interesting note guys. The devs of FFXIV said that they were inspired by the red wedding of GoT on the events of 2.55. Is no surprice, they even call this ingame the bloody banquet
Heavensward is a throwback to more classic examples of Dark Fantasy and has a lot of GoT on it for this reason

Now now. Sometimes it's a Garlean instead. Difference is, Garleans monologue for an hour then stab you in the front, Lalafells stab you in the back, but if they start to monologue, odds are good some NPC will get them for you.

@@MrKoalahxd yep. The longest cutscenes come at the end of one and beginning of the next expansions. So.. ARR> Heavensward> Stormblood> Shadowbringers.
As well as major plot points usually at the endings. There’s a few longer than normal ones. He’ll have plenty of long cutscenes to experience. And his fans that decide to view his streams.

Considering how much more prominent Nanamo and Raubahn are than Gridania or Limsa's leaders, it really does feel like Ul'dah is the "intended" starting city.

@@The_Remage Listen man, I like Sam Riegel too, but if you think his performance in this was good... I don't even know what to say. The voice acting for most characters in ARR is of laughable quality. It gets better in Heavensward onward, but ARR's is genuinely awful.
The red flags with Wilred and having that foreshadowing come full circle when his body turned up was a real moment for me.
He might have just been a minor NPC, but the kid really seemed to be turning his life around after the little incident at Little Ala Mhigo, and I was totally pulling for him.
Good kid, sorely missed.
I remember doing this for the first time over a year and a half ago. So many great memories. ARR honestly gets too much bad rep even though the story towards the end of it really picks up and leads into this grand finale.
I think a lot of ARRs quality is lost when saying "it's the worst part" is said, which is technically true. The reality is, "the worst part" set the standard at great 😂
It honestly pisses me off sometimes, people calling ARR garbage and best skipped asap so you can get to heavensward. ARR legit has a better story than any of the MMOs on the market right now, yet the "veterans" who probably skipped the story themselves because it was too slow for their ADHD brain shit on it
The thing is it is slow. It isn't bad by any means. It is like a movie in a way. Slow and boring at the start, then picks up at the middle or end and really picks up on sequels. Which is the case here
@@Lordoftheapes79 that’s probably it. The standard should be ARR for mmos which is saying something because it’s definitely weak towards the beginning. However I gotta say that because it takes it’s sweet time, you really get a good sense of Eorzea before HW. It can practically be called the worlds longest tutorial.
It’s more of a game of telephone where truth was it built itself up and (especially pre HW), had extended grind in multiple areas, but then people heard that and started shortening it to “it gets better” and then just kept going and going to here we are with people going “IT SUCKS.”
Man, Asmongold's journey through the story is more enjoyable for me than my own the first time. What an entertainer, honestly Asmon is 1 in a million no matter how you see it.
That it is... haven't played FF, and am enjoying this a lot.

I'm liking it a lot more too and I'm retaining a lot more information than I did when I played it on my own. It's so cool. It's like a story recap for me. I'll probably do the same when I'm done with Heavensward and then he gets through it too.
Being able to see it through his eyes is just as fun as experiencing for the first time solo.
alphinaud actually has the best character development I enjoyed watching him grow out of his ARR phase he’s precious
All his development started here though; up until this point, you can't fault anyone for not liking him
But there really are 2 Alphi's: the pre-teen "I can do ALL the things" and the Shadow "I may not do ALL the things, but I can give heart to what I CAN do"
Though I have to say, as much as he works as a good leader, he doesn't do it for me as an emotional crux of the story
@@huntermccaskill3938 Alphinaud to me is probably in the top 5 best characters in the story. His development is absolutely golden. Without him I feel like the story's heart wouldn't have grown so large. His payoff in shadowbringers alone is enormous.

He always cared about the story, just don't really take it that seriously, lots of time just use the tropes to define what's going on in the scene which usually breaks the immersion. In the end he is still ur mmorpg enjoyer.
he is into good storytelling, for example he actually likes The Witcher 3 even when he dont really like or play many SinglePlayer games specially story focus games.
He definitely cares about stories. One of the complaints that he has about WoW is the storytelling.

The good thing back then was: you literally had no idea who survived since nobody in this Game has a Plot Armor.

You'll automatically grow less attached to characters if you're constantly suspecting any one of them could die at any time. Just because we don't see characters falling left and right doesn't mean YoshiP doesn't have something up his sleeve.

He mocked the game for so long, he only cared for y'shtola at first. Now he even felt bad for Nanamo a Lalafell. This is how you know a game has an amazing story when it grabs a skeptic this much.

What is funny reagrding Yugiri is that her 'masked appearance' was just to hide the fact they didn't have correct Au'Ra models when she showed up. Her model is just modified Miqo'te model at the start

This twist got everyone it seems too. I remember seeing an article prior to this saying that it seems like it was setting up for "us to stride triumphantly into Ishgard" for Heavensward.
That wouldn't have been nearly as powerful as this. Disgraced, exiled, protected by a few true friends, and fleeing to an apathetic city with its own problems in the hopes of grasping a shred of redemption.
@@mikelemmer3473 I actually think it's a brilliant way to handle power creep. Yes, the WoL is really strong. But even if we could just massacre our way out of the situation, it would have just made everything worse. So instead we find ourselves almost alone after having lost the majority of our companions, and needing to go to an isolated nation where nearly no one knows about us.
The ending of 2.55 was such an eye opener for me. Until that point, the story had been interesting,. more so than most other MMOs I had played. But that ending and introduction into Heavensward was such a gut punch. Since then, I've been anticipating the story as it releases.

This ending is what finally drew me into FFXIV. I powered through ARR but this part of the story was so engrossing, changed it all for me.
The fact that he openly likes Pipin makes my heart happy. He is one of- if not *the* best lala in the game
"All guns, open fire! _Let no-one say we neglected to knock!"_ It was at that moment I confirmed what I had been suspecting since Papalymo: That apart from 'adorable cinnamon roll who must be protected at all costs' and 'pure evil potato scumball', there was a third type of Lalafell... 'I am three and a half feet of CONDENSED BADASS!'

@@khinzaw77 To be fair if the player died in uldan or something happened then all of them would be screwed regardless since the player kills primals like every wednesday. I'd especially side with the mc especially after what they do in heavensward.

Also, while the WoL is powerful, they can't fight off the entire Garlean army on their own, which is why dividing Eorzea with a war between city states would be a stupid move. They could only retreat and hope that the WoL and Scions would make it out alive.
This part after ARR is what had me hooked to the story, was waiting a long time to see his reaction to this!
I do not even play the game, but seeing Asmon playing it with so much joy and following the story is just awesome. THIS is how to tell a good story - SHOW don't TELL.

I recently started Heavensward, and at the nanamo's death I jokingly said to my friend in VC "and then she got poisoned" seconds before it actually happened, causing my friend saying "ah you are there" confusing me for about 2 seconds before Nanamo's eyes widen.
The moment Raubahn unbind Asmongold and tell him to clear his infamous, bromance level gone even further than I though.
Since asmon calls ishgard "Isengard", someone should edit a video of him entering ishgard with lord of the rings soundtrack.

Like, everything else had a build-up and on top of all the betrayals and scheming, you immediately assume, "Oh fuck, Urianger has betrayed us too!" You never stop to think that this, coming out of no-where like it does, is actually the START of another plotline, rather than just a part of the current theme of betrayal! It's only after the fact that you look back and go, "Holy shit, he was a double agent for us all along!" God I cannot WAIT for him to see the rest of the story. I don't really care for Asmongold himself, but seeing someone's reactions to the story is just so damn pure and lovely!
I love how invested he is in these characters, especially after saying the story isn't of interest to him.

The princess' death scene was surprisingly graphic(if not disturbing) It's impressive they pulled it off even without blood. Her face is practically ingrained into my head

I feel that's the reason why Merlwyb basically lets out her frustration in that particular scene. She really wants to step in but fully knows it's just going to make things worse for everyone.
@@Auurify Though that probably is why the guards finally remembered to step in at that point. Because Merlwyb would be perfectly happy to strip off her coat, empty both barrels into the braves and dare everyone else to come have a go if they think they're hard enough. Kan-E is the real dangerous one though, since she'd skip past all the shouting and go right to the Blood Lily.
@@evanulven8249 I really wish Kan-E got more play in the story. Nanamo and Raubahn take up most of the screen time between the two of them, especially in SB (which I can understand for Raubahn given his connection to Ala Mhigo), while Merlwyb has the next highest. Kan-E meanwhile just doesn't get to do much which is a real shame, because you know she's a powerhouse in her own right, as we get to see much later on in a more recent Duty. But at least you get to hang out with her for a little while in HW...

as some who started a few days before asmon and have already reached Storm blood I know asomon will come to love Alphy like I have. I hated his ass at first he was annoying to me but the story really made me like him especially in heavansword. I cant wait to see his change in attitude towards him and Tataru

Exactly man. IDK if it was intentional to make you hate him in the beginning, but either way it's very clever. I find myself actually caring about him as a character now.

@@alexanderjakubowski5673 It's very much intentional. Alphy admits himself that he was stroking his own ego and using people to play himself as the diplomatic savior of Eorzea. Good writers know that the best characters are ones where there is actual growth and you truly empathize with them to succeed. Even more so are the characters that you automatically hate with a passion and not because the story tells you to for cliches. So its not at all surprising to find characters with hate-able personality transform into a redeemed character ends up being one of the favorites for audiences.
And now the game truly begins...

FYI , The Voice of Aymeric is Blake Ritson who is an actor in the Adventure and Drama series "Da Vinci's Demons".
His VA is so PERFECT for the role, he hits those articulations needed for someone in Amyerics position, diplomatic but also fucking sarcastic, those little hints of, my words are not how I feel sort of thing. Like with that scene with Adaleji, you can hear the fact he KNOWS something is fucked, but he has to stay a diplomat.

One misconception about the WoL. Yes we are quite skilled, but us slaying primals is more so that we are immune to corruption. We certainly are not the strongest in the world. And others can handle primals if sufficient measures are taken.
Yup. WoL straight gets their ass beat on multiple occasions. Not to mention, we and the Scions depend on our relations with various world leaders a lot. Slaughtering every perceived enemy would not end well politically.
I like that there are actually some stakes and losses in this game. Beign the chosen one does not exepmt you for getting you ass whopped, one way or another.

by the time shadowbringers starts the WoL is legitimately one of the strongest beings in the realms. so much so that enemies aren't even considering primals a threat to him/her anymore.
remember "Zenos" dialogue with Yotsuyu's bro towards the end of Stormblood. something like "forgive me but wont a single primal get easily dispatched by the warrior of light?" and Zenos is like "yeah..thats the point".
(and yes gameplay wise you gank tsukuyomi with 7 other people, but story wise you beat her 1 on 1 with very little effort)
Generally when the WoL loses its seen as a very big deal in the story. and when he's in a group with pretty much any other character he's always clearly treated as the most powerful in the group. (the last quest in Stormblood is literaly people trying to survive long enough for the WoL to get to the battlefield, indicating there is canonicaly a very big divide in power level between your character and the rest of the main cast)
@@ItachiYGO I wanted to avoid spoilers... But when you get stripped of your blessing, that is to enable you to keep growing. It is an unecesary strain on hydalen and also holding you back. Over the course of hw, that is when you start to really build your own power. By the time of SB you are a bit better or on par with other masters.(think of the class quests) and by the time of shb you are leaving them in the dust. They feel they need to strive to catch up to you. But back in Arr... You are just pretty strong. It's like moving from the 70th percentile to the 99th.

Very chill and fun, I stopped playing WoW years ago, my wife was more stuck in the game, however after seeing you create a hype wave for ff14, we have both been playing it together for a week now and are re-living when we met in WoW 5 years ago, it's been amazing, thanks for everything Asmon you're a good dude

Something to keep in mind with this ending was that you had to wait several months from this ending until the actual release of Heavensward. It is such a gutpunch of a patch because up until this point the story is very tame with relatively few twists and no real major character deaths. Even Moenbryda was only around for literally one patch, so it was kinda hard to become too attached. If you played at the time, you didnt find out the fate for some of these characters for over a year.
Its also kinda crazy how much advanced planning and groundwork FFSXIV has for its story. There are hints for Stormblood being dropped all over ARR, .....the expansion AFTER Heavensward. When 2.0 had launched, it was directly stated that the story had already been completely penned through 4.0

Watching Az react to this brings back memories of my first play through. So many crazy unforeseen twists. My mind was blown. When has WoW ever did that? At least not to the extent of being a gut punch.

@@vaidenkelsier7757 Nah, its different if you do it yourself with your own character. I feel bad that they are getting a lesser experience. It will never be the same level of enjoyment and they can never experience it for the first time. Regardless of whether they would have gone through ARR on their own or not, they experienced it in an objectively inferior way.

I literally cry in this part of the entire Realm Reborn MSQ. They make a great job in the finale of this expansion. Great work Yoshi-p.
People are discovering how good FF14 really is, it’s not just the story, the music, nor the raids, but everything. All those years most people had a bad attitude about FF14, but now as you can see, this game is a masterpiece, and it just gets more epic each expansion.
