    Super video with almost every tipp you need to know... except the ONE. Don't stick the magnets too close to the edge of the base. That could end up in moving Miniatures on the gaming table. 😁

    Nice Video. This is the third or fourth video I have seen using this basing system. you go into several details that the others missed. You are also the only one to suggest using the box top and sides to maximise storage and fix the issue with pike and banner models. Well done.

    They also sell a 9L XL box that has an extra tall lid section which means you can transport 2 imperial knights and 2 Armigers in 1 box and you can get a magnetic whiteboard from wilko that is perfectly sized to be cut into 4 rectangles so you that are stronger then those magnetic rubber pads and are only £2.50

    • @IVIaskerade
      @IVIaskerade ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want a stronger bond you can always use metal, like he said. The whole point of the weaker bond is so that models with flimsy legs don't break when you remove them.

    • @Ledshot
      @Ledshot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IVIaskerade varying the size of the magnets with model size is better then varying the base material, also I've got a 2000pts necron army with around 30ish warriors and 20 flayed ones of all types they've never broken.
      My point is there's a cheaper option to the rubber sheets which means more money for models, oh and you can write on them for unit types or battlefield roles which can be handy.

    Great video. Additional tip, if you have light weight minis on small bases, using smaller weaker magnets will stop them attracting/sticking to each other when on the tabletop. But you need metal sheets to give a strong enough attraction.

    • @GeneJordan
      @GeneJordan ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you use the same polarity for each magnet, you shouldn't have an issue with them falling over or being attracted to each other.

      @@GeneJordan that makes no sense in this context

    • @GeneJordan
      @GeneJordan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OptimusMonk01 It absolutely does. If the polarity of all magnets is the same, such as North up and South down, then the bottoms of the bases where the magnets are located would not be attracted to one another should any of the "lightweight" models fall over.

    • @OptimusMonk01
      @OptimusMonk01 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GeneJordan no and let me explain to why you're wrong. these magnets are fucking strong, and the magnetic fields run on the y axis of the figure. that means in the x axis you're going to be at the edge of both fields where small changes in the relative elevation of the figures will mean both attract and repel forces are in play. in short, it doesn't matter which way around you put the magnets, they're always going to fuck with each other pushing and pulling your figures around in ways you don't want, and it makes no different which way around you put the magnet, you can't avoid it.

    • @GeneJordan
      @GeneJordan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OptimusMonk01 As a hobbyist who has magnetized more models than I can count, I'm going to disagree with your dissertation and work within my own experiences.
      It's not rocket science. Test it out for yourself with two units of models, one with magnets lined up and one without, then determine which one you have more issues with falling over and sticking to each other while in use.
      I could waste my time explaining the concept further, but I can't comprehend it for you. Personally, my time is more important than the benefit of proving you wrong in this medium.

    I've started lining my boxes with plasticine. I can push the bases of the models into it and don't need to bother glueing magnets to any of my models (I tried, but I didn't like how close ranked infantry models would clump together during gameplay, sometimes breaking the magnets off of the bases)
    Depending on where you look, plasticine can work out way cheaper than magnets anyway.

    I've been using a metal letter tray from ikea as a carrying case for years. Problem I've always had, though, is using super glue to stick magnets to the bases, invariably, the magnets just rip off the base sooner or later. Will take the miniature from the tray and the magnet will be left behind. I've even left the cork surface atop each tray in the letter tray, so the bond is much weaker than if in contact with metal directly. I find that connection to the metal directly is too strong for the reasons he's mentioned in the video. Not sure why after several months the magnets still end up ripping off, though.

    meanwhile my 0.85mm magntic sheet and my 28mm base models with 5x2mm magnet be sliding once i tilt my box to much q.q
    idk i bougght neodynium magnets, i ordeed some 3x2mm magnets now of green stuff world as they said it works great for 32mm bases on their steel rubber sheets but il have to see, other wise i might buy 8x2mm magnets or maybe the 5x2 i bought are just crappy

    So if your miniatures aren’t magnetized it won’t work?

    • @GeneJordan

      True. You have to magnetize the bases.

      @@GeneJordan I know he used a magnetic sheet and glued tint magnets underneath all of the miniatures bases I’m just curious if it could be useable without that just as storage

      @@thomasalden6263 You can definitely put an army in the boxes to store them, you'd just need to be carful when moving it in and out of said storage. Without magnets, youd ideally pack somthing around them to stop the minis from moving.

    Magnet sheets do not work well for anything bigger than a WHFB skeleton. Thin gauge steel sheets are 10x better for this

    I had used magnetic sheets, they sucked. Then bought the more expensive ones from the magnet shop, they are better, but 10 quid a sheet. I just got 5 cuts of 1mm sheet metal cut to exact size of the base of the really useful boxes. Models just do not move AT ALL and they cost way less, just have to grab it more from the base.

      You messed up dude. I also use the magnetic receptive rubber sheets from the magnet shop, but i'm only paying $2/£2 for them, see link below:
      USA - Magnetic Rubber Sheets (Adhesive): amzn.to/41Xj8Ck
      UK - Magnetic Rubber Sheets (Adhesive): amzn.to/41gL2sQ
      But yes metal sheeting if you get it cut from a good supplier works flawlessly, the only issue is that it works too well with some of the more fragile miniatures. If that's not an issue for your army i'd go ahead, but here in the uk i've found metal sheets to be more costly.

      @@esotabletop yeah to be fair the stuff I bought was 2mm sheet but that stuff you linked it’s a pretty good price too. Yeah I had mine cut in uk, 2 quid a sheet but it actually fits, annoyed me I had to cut them to size with a4 sheets 😂 the green stuff method is great too, was using 2mm thickness magnets and they worked pretty well with the rubber sheets, but recently started printing and found bases that have a slot for a 5x1 magnet in the base, which just wasn’t strong enough for the rubber sheets, but works fine on the metal. Was my main reasoning to be honest haha.
