I'm an African American female and our recipes are pretty much the same as the Appalachian community. I could just reach through the screen and take one of them right off your skillet. Looks delicious! I'd love to see how y'all do your Peach Cobblers next. Food is so Universal aint it?

This recipe or any biscuit recipe makes awesome non yeast cinnamon rolls .. If you don’t have yeast and want cinnamon rolls .. just roll the biscuits out a bit thinner and add the butter cinnamon sugar and roll a log like yeast rolls.. cut them 1inch thick set almost touching on sheet let set to raise 10 min and bake them. The best non yeast cinnamon rolls on the planet.. my mom made them for our big family so she skipped the yeast to get them to the table quicker... you should try them sometime..

To save time I run my ice cold butter down a grater. It makes the butter in the perfect size pieces and it really makes mixing so much easier.. especially those of us with bad arthritis in our hands . 😊💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

When I was little, my mom always used lard, never butter. We had it.it was for spreading on the biscuit before we added the molasses...those were the days!! Love your videos! ❤

I'm a 70 yr old Appalachian grandma who wants to share one of our closest held biscuit makin secrets... if you use a traditional iron skillet and place the biscuits sides touching you'll get a high rise and fluffier biscuit yet.

I’m from Australia...for years I’ve heard Americans talk about biscuits for breakfast etc....in Australia biscuits are thin cookies.....watching your very fun video shows me that the US biscuit is what we call scones ..we mainly eat them cut in half with jam and cream for afternoon tea !

I make my biscuits a little different. Self rising flour, mix dry ingredients (salt, sugar) cut in the butter, then put it in the freezer. Meanwhile preheat the oven and greased skillet. Just before the oven gets to temperature remove from freezer add buttermilk mix and cut the same. Give it a try!

I'm 60 years old and worked all my life. Cooking was fast and easy until I retired. For the first time in my life I have slowed down and started making things from scratch. I had never made biscuits before until I watched your video, always used the canned stuff. Hence quick and easy. Love, love, love your homemade biscuits and my family thanks you! I'm helping to raise my 18 month old grandson and he will benefit from the scratch cooking much more than my own kids did! Great videos!

I need to try your recipe. A week or so ago I made biscuits for the first time since I was 13 years old using a different recipe and I'm 64 now. Loved your personality and I had to laugh a couple of times. My grandmother cooked for a living and started teaching my siblings and myself how to cook when we were in elementary school. Keep on doing what you're doing.👍🏾👍🏾

Thank you for the recipe and video instructions. I have not made biscuits for almost 30yrs. My sister married a kentuckian and his momma showed her how. I didn't keep making them and lost the " recipe". These seem close except she used lard. Hubby loved homemade biscuits and I am determined to be awesome at it. I wish I could upload a pic. They look amazing, even if I say soo... too hot to eat yet. I'm not sweating it tho! Ty

I agree, cooking and baking is an on going process. Using what you have on hand is why it always seemed like Grandma could make the best meals
What most people don't realize is she had learned what to use to get the same results even if she didn't have the same items for the recipe. We work and learn hoping to be that smart. Love your videos.

I loooove making biscuits! My all time favorite is cream biscuits....probably because they are so easy and when I'm able to get fresh cream it's delightful! I absolutely MUST get a cast iron like that! I always make double or even triple batches with five kids and a hungry man to feed! Hahaha! I'll have to drop some hints to the hubs so maybe I'll get one under the tree this Christmas!

    Thank you for this!
    Trying them today.
I can make all sorts of bread and it’ll be amazing but for some reason biscuits, well the never turn out. The flavor is there but they are always hard, you could use them as a hockey puck. Lol
I thought maybe I handled the dough to much but I think I’m actually cooking them way to low or a combination of them both.
I SHALL conquer these! Seeing how I’m stuck in the house anyhow. lol

Patara, baking biscuits has been my thorn in the flesh. My Momma trued and tried to walk me through it. Sadly, Momma passed away June 3, 1015. I watched every biscuit making tutorial on You Tube.. finally got it! Lol. When Momma made bread she rarely cut out the biscuits. Apparently, Daddy’s Mother just made what we here in Hawkins County called Pone Bread. That’s how Daddy liked it so that’s how Momma made it. We would either cut off chunks or break it off...breaking bread. Lol. Love your channel. Thinking I’d like some homemade biscuits and sausage gravy about now. Nothing better for supper than breakfast, right? God bless you. Dear Patara.

I enjoyed this very much and look forward to trying these. I realize this video was made several years ago but for future videos you can premeasure your baking powder etc to have your hands free. I'm sure you where trying to show how country women cooked by eye and feel. Unfortunately, many people today have no experience cooking from scratch and often neither did mom and grandmom. It's sad and videos like your will help but many people need very firm directions. Just a suggestion. This was great.
Ps I'm a cook from scratch from a very young age but have taught others and their lack of knowledge and confidence is striking.

My grandma made homemade biscuits all the time.when i was young trying to get recipes from her was a task, she used her hands to "measure"everything",she told me about vinegar,or lemon juice to sour your milk.worked long hours for allot of year's,so homemade, went to the "backburner",until my mom died, then with taking care of dad,he so started reminiscing about his mommas cooking. Thank goodness i remembered what she had taught me,and copied recipe's.sorry, thanks for sharing patara, really brought back memories, guess i had to share, sure miss them.
