  • In December of 2023, we spent 18 days traveling from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Shanghai, China, and several places in between. We traveled over 5300 km (3300 miles) mostly by train, with one short 1.5-hour flight.
    #bullettrains #chinatrain #beijingshanghai
In this video, we travel from Beijing to Shanghai by one of China's fastest trains. Reaching nearly 350 km/h (217.5 mph) we cover the 1300 km (800 mile) journey in 4 and a half hours!!
For these train tickets, I contacted a travel agent (a friend of a friend) in China (lu@choice-travel-china.com). He got us the tickets to Shanghai and back to Beijing. The cost for one way on the 4.5-hour fast train, 2nd class seat was 762 RMB (US$106) per adult and 381 RMB (US$53) per child ages 6 to 14. Extremely affordable!!
You could probably get the tickets yourself through trip.com or other online sites for about the same price ($5 to $10 less maybe), however, the tickets go on sale only 15 days in advance and could sell out quickly for your chosen date and time. Mr. Lu could get them as soon as they became available.
The trains run every hour all day starting about 5 am or so with slightly varying stops in between that affect the exact travel time. The 4.5 hour is the fastest to Shanghai and therefore costs a few dollars more than say the 6-hour train.
Food on the train seemed a bit expensive ($7 to $10 a meal). I would suggest that you bring your own food and drink.
In the next video, we will be exploring Shanghai. We go to the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Disney Store, and do some other shopping!
    Upcoming videos also include:
    The Bund
Zootopia! - a 360-degree GoPro video of the brand new ride - Hot Pursuit!
    Shanghai Disneyland
Shanghai Aquarium - longest aquarium tunnel in the world - 360-degree
    China Science and Technology Museum
    The Great Wall
    and much more...

Kalkha Mongols used to be part of the Qing Empire. Under Soviet encouragement, they separated. Had they still been part of China, they would've enjoy the prosperity like their Southern Mongol cousins, e.g. Chahar, Khorqin, Ordos & Daur.

The Mongolian languages of Mongolia and Inner Mongolia are basically the same, but due to different writing systems, they cannot communicate in written words.

I understand that my comment is very agueable, but I have to say, if Mongolia never be separated from China, Mongolian would still be using their traditional written language in their daily life, instead of using Russian. And living standard could be much better.

    • @heilinmongolia
      @heilinmongolia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Your statement is probably a bit trues to some extent. Mongolians still use their own Mongolian language and only a few speak Russian. They do use a form of Cyrillic adjust for the Mongolian language. There probably would be a lot fewer ethnic Mongolians and many more ethnic Chinese in Mongolia also... but you never know. The land can still only support a certain number of people. Infrastructure in general would probably be much better. I will make a short soon comparing the train stations in Mongolia and China... very different.

@@heilinmongolia Thanks for detailed reply! I watched your part1 China vlog, it seems like most of the written words on the signs and papers are in Russian letters, and many buildings are Soviet style. It's sad to see a nation used to be powerful enough to conquer most of China and half Europe became so underdeveloped. I been to Inner Mongolia (China side of Mongolia) once, it looks quite different from the actual Mongolia. Feels like the China side preserved the original Mongolian culture better.

@@wh4uf You're right, I was intended to bring out this topic, cos I felt Mongolia should be "more Mongolian" than the Inner Mongolia at China side. And living standards could be improved if Mongolia works more closely with China economically.

I think it was about $75 or $80 per seat. I went through a travel agent, so direct purchase could have bee less maybe. I will look this info up and add it to the description when I get a chance.

You can look on trip.com for current prices. On our way back to Erlian I used the trip.com app to purchase fast train tickets from Beijing to Hohhot and then an overnight train from Hohhot to Erlian. The app was easy to use and prices were pretty good.
