One thing I realized with an officer build on lower difficulty you could run an entire combat encounter around a single DPS character with multiple officers. spamming extra turns.

Honestly it works the same way on Unfair. This game is a good deal easier than WotR. They might fix that after more bugs have been cleared.

More than 1-2 officers breaks the game completely. If you want succeed in the hardest difficulty pick 4 officers. The extra turns means that either cassia cleans a lot of mobs or you sniper kills the Boss before the real turns start

Playing dogmatic commissar officer/vanguard. I know the vanguard isn’t optimized for officer, but it gets me in the mix and feels more like a commissar on the front line - “get in here and fight or I’ll kill you myself” so far it’s been a blast. And Abelard always announces my entrance - respect your rogue trader!

Support classes are very well designed in this game. Never once did my officer feel like a buff bot and instead was still able to do good damage with a variety of weapons depending on what the situation required while also giving extra turns to my dedicated sniper Yrliet or burst fire god Argenta.

Did I hear that right? Romancing an Inquisitor as a Heretic? 😲 You, sir, are a very brave man. Also crazy. 😇
Regarding your comments on the Rogue Trader bonding more with Heinrix or Argenta, you must keep in mind that both of them, first and foremost, serve their organisations (unless there is a point in story I haven't reached yet where they formally leave the Inquisition or Sororitas Order?), so there are obviously going to be hard limits on how far any kind of bonding could go. Working for the same cause or not, friendly coworkers is the realisitc maximum you should expect from them (when romance influence is not in play, at least).

Playing as a dogmatic officer/sanctic psyker. Having a great time. I choose the options that fit for me rather than being (ahem) dogmatic about it, so I am currently rank 3 dogmatic and rank 2 iconoclast.

The Officer/Commissar type build is great, till you hit Act 3, or the ambush in your bedroom, where you're on your own. That was a shock for my build, as i struggled and didnt have too much damage dealing attacks.

Having gone through the game and seen the choices, and having been into 40k for about thirty years, in my opinion pure dogmatic is a bit TOO much (As in you become the kind of ultra-zealot that would give all but the hardcore Ecclesiarchy pause), and pure benevolent would be utterly naive to the point of ultimately making life (And the afterlife...) significantly worse for the people you're trying to help. I ended up going a split of about 60-40 benevolent to dogmatic; helped a lot of people, did a lot of good, and made some choices that would raise eyebrows in the setting, but tempered that with more than a few morally unpleasant but 'has to be done' dogmatic choices because it was, to me at least, the only ratio that made sense in the setting.
Also, I completely agree that there was a distinct lack of gravitas by having Ulfar in your party. Rolling up with an Astartes in your retinue should, 99% of the time, have folk reacting like "OH SH*T!", and other than the initial bit after you return from your webway holiday to your ship with him and your crew drop to their knees and start praying, I didn't see any of that. Fantastic game overall that mostly did a wonderful job of portraying and exploring the setting, but some of the choices, the reactions to them, and the things you can get away with, even as a Rogue Trader, were a bit dubious.

Wrapping up an Iconoclast run as a melee pyro-psyker now. Personally, I've really enjoyed it. Iconoclast feels like a nice balance between 'trying to be better' vs 'willful ignorance' of the reality around you. The decisions on Janus in Act II, for example, really reflect this.
Iconoclast also brought me into a *lot* of conflict with much of my party; the dogmatic party members in particular, but others as well. I've really enjoyed this about the game, as it feels like it's a punishing roleplay style, which feels accurate to the setting.
I also romanced Yrliet; Heinrix was not pleased.

I tried to build a noble officer... I got bored out of my mind not being the one to do anything. I did appreciate the RP, but the whole build is about empowering meat shields (which is why Diablo 2's necromancer was not my favorite class to play)
It's also why having all the companions come with better archtypes or talents or stats than you get is kinda irksome to me. Because I want the MC to feel like "The Star." I want my MC to be a gish; the big time damage dealer. The show stopper - or at least the guy that can do something else in the party that NO ONE else can do. It was one of the things I enjoy about Kingmaker and Wrath; you do get enough class choices that some of them AREN'T already covered by your companions. So you CAN be that special. If not outright the best party member.
    * Cassia getting so many awesome talents to boost her, over boosting the party directly does rather invalidate an officer run in my opinion. Alongside the fact Pasqual is better as Grand Strategist, and both Cassia & Jae are set to be Master Tacticians. You have Ulfric (wait, wrong game...) and Argenta as the Arch Militants (BUT when you know the secret about Theodora - Argenta becomes a hard sell, is all I'm saying...) You've got Idira and Yerilit, and Henrix and BDSM Emo Edgelord boy as your assassins or bounty hunters. Even Alebard is set to be the Vanguard; and the DLC companions cover at least one of the new arch types. [I'd be fine if there was ONE or TWO specific archtypes that ONLY the MC has access to... but that kinda feels like an oversight in this game. Given how far out of their way Owlcat went in making Kingmaker and Wrath feel like your MC was special beyond just being the Chosen One Super Special Must Save The World! type of character] * We don't even get more than 2 force swords, or more than I believe 1 actual set of power armor. {What the hell are those talents even there for Owlcat?!?]
Might as well call it Blade of If You Picked This, Opps, I Did It Again; You Borked Your Build...
or for Power Armor, You Can't Touch This. Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine!

One little thing regarding the Relationship/camaraderie with Heinrix. His character specifically works best in an Icono romance, cause through dialogue and his reactions specifically to Rykad and his own personal quest, it’s kinda obvious deep down he’s not 100% dogmatic. If you push him to be more dogmatic, he in turn becomes more cold and harsh, therefore keeping your character and everyone else at arms length, where as if you push him towards Iconoclast he is warmer and maybe more merciful, in that case he also acts closer to your RT. It’s more obvious if you play his romance, but it’s still there.

I missed so much on my dogmatic run skipping Yrliet and her kin, just letting Chorda do her things and not really stopping Winterscale. Ulfar’s quest wasn’t bugged for me and he actually felt great RPwise, just needed the in-combat bump since boots + gunslinger helmet made Argenta the better dpr.

Lost alot of crew and had to fight deamons on board quite a bit. N at lv 29 id say i probably understand atleast half the game now. Only thing is alot of videos make it sound easy n wiping out enemies quick and easy. For me prob 75% battles are all out WARS for me. Long drawn out marathon fights. But besides that ive got the hang of it. Abalard is a tank n somewhat Pasqual n Heinrix. Argenta def my straight killer. I like Jae n Ylriet too. Don't use the psykers much honestly. Dark Heresy as a game system is a lot more forgiving and straightforward than AD&D3.5 which is what Pathfinder is.
Dark Heresy is in a lot of ways very similar in scope to real time RPG systems we see in the "middle ages" of MMOs such as Everquest and early World of Warcraft with a straightforward stat system and using D100 to make checks, except presented as turn based. In addition to this, skills are based on characteristics and scaling is straightforward with both difficulty and with tiers of "jobs" off base combinations; There is no straightforward class system, there is a combination of different backgrounds which you need to carefully synergise together to create a good character.
And yes you heard me right, D100. The game just uses a single D100 dice for everything. And yes, D100 dice exist, they are big honking dice which are the size of and look like a golf ball and you roll them into a felt padded bowl for optimal RNG.

Ulfar is definitely lacking content. He had very little reactivity overall from what I used him in. I was able to finish his final quest but it felt a little rushed.... like most of Act 5 honestly. I think I got the correct ending slides for him but hard to tell because my slides were bugged overall. What I got was...fine....but he didn't interact with the other companions in the slides the way some others did.
His build isn't so much the problem as the lack of gear, there is almost no gear for him and what is there is just worse than what normal characters can get. Most hilariously his starting pistol was broken for me and didn't work in melee range. His charge always uses his right hand which only ranged weapons can go in so its completely unusable without having a functioning pistol. I found a plasma pistol for him which made him at least work, but then it doesn't have burst which is lame for a soldier/arch militant. He definitely should have been stronger than Argenta and he is no where near that.

Is Yrliet better or worse than Pasqal?

    • @magni5648
      @magni5648 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

She's really different. Yrliet works best by going Assassin, stacking Lethality and direct damage and then just deleting big enemies from across the map with Killing Edge and Death Whisper. She barely interacts with the Operative exploit system doing that, and is laser-focused on single-target burst damage.
Pasqal meanwhile can go a few ways, but he's more mid- or close-range oriented with his plasma gun and omnissian axe and can doa hell of a lot with exploit talents and Tactical Knowledge. He tends to work better as a Bounty Hunter or even Grand Strategist, too.

If you were disappointed with yhe secret companion on a dogmatic run, completely dismiss the secret companions from other runs before you get there.
The heretic companion literally does not work, his equipment is entirely non-functional so he cant even attack.
If hes going to exist as a constant reminder if the unfinished and buggy side of the game, i would genuinely prefer that he never made it to launch.

For me playing Iconoclast has been the best. I am mainly Iconoclast with a tiny bit of heretic (if I see some cool new technology (such as the chaos engine aka demonic giant robo dog), I keep it no matter what Heinrix has to say about that). I have not been dissapointed in the slightest with my decisions. I help people and make sure I have the power to continue to do so despite the Imperium (who are just a different flavor of evil to me than chaos and I prefer demons to space nazis). I like the Xenos in 40k, not the Imperium, who make great bad guys but I would never be on their side. I caught myself starting to think "maybe Heinrix isn't the nazi gestapo I thought he was" and then we got to Dargonus and he starts telling everyone "only the rogue trader can interact with eldar, for everyone else here it is heresy". The fall of the Imperium would be a GOOD thing.
