      That sucks but hang in there; rumour has it that within 2 years of launch Cyberpunk 2077 might have a 3rd person mod AND;
      Many believe that very gradual exposure will cure you BUT the trick is to avoid nausea as much as possible SO;
      You drink ginger tea FIRST then put on a first person game today and play it for 30 seconds and switch it off.
      Tomorrow for 45 seconds.
      The next day for 60 seconds.
      If you get sick at any stage you go back to the previous time for the following day and try to up your exposure by 15 seconds again the day after until you pass BUT;
      If you fail AGAIN you go back two days to a minimum of 30 seconds.
      You don’t stress and always drink ginger tea first if you can handle drinking it. If not the don’t worry about the tea and just keep on trucking and some day you’ll play for as long as you want while never feeling sick.
      Try it.

    High clarity in the background without motion blur. That's what gets me! I wasn't sure why minecraft was making me nauseous after turning off bobbing and adjusting the FOV. But after adding motion blur it made a world of difference! Thank you so much for being so informative! I couldn't play for longer than a half hour up until now! 🙏

    Glad I found your video. Helped me understand some things. I have a 144hz monitor. Used it for years. Now I understand the dizziness and fatigue I get when I go back to viewing something on a normal everyday 60hz display for an extended amount of time. I wish 60hz was a thing of the past because 144hz and higher is truly amazing and smooth. Since 90% of screens we see at work/school/family rooms are 60hz, I am sorta forced to stop using 144hz :( switching back and forth takes a toll on the brain and eyes. Hope that helps someone else.

      Hey KEEVS, for me it is just the opposite, I can not play in 144 Hz without me being sick ... I need 60 Hz otherwise I will be sick. Funnily enough, in 60 Hz I also play better in CS: GO.

      I’m glad someone pointed this out! 360/ps3 pretty much locked themselves at 30 fps minus a few games, but Xbox one/ps4 started this whole some games are 30, some are 60 and it drives me nuts! I can’t go back and forth on games like I used to because of the difference and even worse if I go to watch tv after a 60fps game. It’s made me go back to pc where I can control it but my video card is old, so I’m considering buying a capture device just for the frame locking

    Played games obsessively in my teens. Now in my mid 20's can't even play Oblivion some days and on those days Skyrim is a complete no go.
    I dread caves and tunnels, seeing the walls rushing past makes me want to projectile.. Even on a good day
    FOV changes does nothing for me.. I don't know what changed. Maybe my brain broke? :(

      Hm, I might take another broader look at this topic as video game-induced motion sickness is definitely a widespread issue that isn't just caused by latency or sensory overload. Another theory is that it has to do on postural instability. Basically head and body sway around that 0.2Hz rocking frequency. I've seen studies that tried to restrain people while they play, it actually helps reduce motion sickness.

      Maybe it is just anxiety, one of the most common problems this days.
      I used to get sick without any particular reason, visited a medic and guess what? It was anxiety.
      Now when i know it was just that i feel very relaxed.

    Here is my story about motion sickness . I have always been a gamer since I was 10 years old . I am 36 now and I have always been able to play any game at all without any issue . However at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 I started experimenting motion sickness specially while playing project cars for PS4 . I guess that game triggered a severe motion sickness In all games that i try playing . I feel unbalanced but if I experienced just that symptom I could try struggling and go on playing but I also experience something uncomfortable in my chest ( like palpitations but I am not sure ) and my body gets hotter too so I am get scared and stop playing 😭. I hear many saying that repetitive movements might get us used to games again but sincerely I am quite skeptical about it . How I wish anyone could help me 🥺😭 here . I just wanted to play my games like I used to 😔

    Glad I found this. When I went from a plasma TVs to an OLED 120hz tv, I got vertigo and couldn’t focus or concentrate on the tv. I took it back and got a 120hz QLED and had the same result. The Liquid Retina displays do this to me too. I don’t know what the future has, but I’m worried I won’t be able to use newer displays.

    So, adding the frame rates could make your brain try to focus on more information at once. That is a good point. I never did like playing some newer games, and this was a top reason. It just makes me focus on more than it's needed.

    Hey I think this video helped uncover a problem I have been trying to figure out for awhile. Some games would really disturb my eyes to the point where I could not continue playing the game, no matter how much I liked the game. Now that I have a PC, I will try to lock these games at a certain framerate and make sure it doesn't go wildly up and down. That clip you showed of that game at 10 FPS really hurt my eyes, so the reason for my eye strain must be FPS. Thank you, sir.

    YES I believe motion blur reduces sickness but I appreciate it for other reasons too.
    I have been assured and seen evidence in others that gradual exposure to 60FPS can build immunity to nausea.
    For years 99% of my games are first person and I’ve played 99% of my games at 30 FPS however I’ve bought an X1X and so now am getting used to 60 FPS but HERE IS MY QUESTION;
    Rage2 on the proprietary Avalanche engine at 60 FPS does not EVER make me sick regardless of FOV.
    Wolfenstien makes me sick AF with any settings.
    Based on this (excellent, thank you) video I might guess that Wolfenstein has less blur and I do play Rage 2 with Chromatic Aberration and Motion Blur on.
    However I can’t detect less clarity in Rage 2 so I think they’re very comparable or even close to the same so I’m hoping yourself or someone might say something like, “No way dude! Wolfenstein IS clearer and has less blur”
    Anyone have any advice about why Wolfenstein at 60 on X1X makes me super sick and run for ginger tea while Rage2 at 60 on X1X does not ever?

      I’ve read games with more realistic movement can cause motion sickness. But i believe it varies from person to person. I can play halo reach no problem. 30fps. Little to no head bob. But I can’t play cod 30fps or 60fps. Lots of gun and head bob.

  • @rdk2009
    @rdk2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Kind of wanted to share my story about video game motion sickness. Maybe it’ll give some insight to those who suffer like me.
    I’ve been dealing with motion sickness when I play first person shooters for years. It got so bad I could only play one game without getting sick. That was Halo Reach on Xbox 360. COD was a definite no go for me. But I played Halo for 2 years religiously. All day and all night. Eventually I grew out of it and stopped playing video games completely. One day I decided to get back into video games, specifically the Halo series, so I purchased Halo 5. I played 10-20 minutes and gave up. I got so sick I wanted to puke. The first thing I noticed was the frame rate. It was so much higher than Halo Reach. 30fps vs 60fps I believe. I truly believe 60fps was too much for me and is what caused my motion sickness. But to test this out I popped in my old Halo Reach cd and started playing. I played campaign and a TON of multiplayer, as in weeks of halo reach multiplayer, and I did not once get any instance of motion sickness. So at least for me the cause seems to be the higher frame rate.
    BUT if I’m not mistaken call of duty was also 30fps, forgot which one exactly. So why would call of duty give me motion sickness if it was 30fps same as halo reach? Well I read something online that stated the type of movement in a shooter can also trigger motion sickness. Some first person shooters only the gun moves when you’re in motion. While the head movement stays relatively still or does not move at all. Like halo reach. While others, like call of duty, there’s plenty of gun AND head movement. Which triggers motion sickness.
    When our eyes see the realistic movement, say of call of duty, our brains check in with our equilibrium inside our ears. But our equilibrium tells our brain that there is nothing going on and that we are sitting perfectly still. So then our brain is conflicted. Doesn’t know who is right. And that’s when we get motion sickness. Another hypothesis is that our brain thinks we have been poisoned. We see realistic movement and we’re not actually moving. But unfortunately not enough definite studies have been done.
    Anyways back to my original story. So at least for ME, since we’re all different, I can play 30fps unrealistic movement halo reach but not 30fps or 60fps call of duty or halo 5 with realistic movement. The reason I’m on here today is because I have been playing cod mobile with little to no motion sickness. And I’m planning on playing the latest release of Halo Reach with 60fps. Let’s see how that goes. Hopefully my story has giving some insight to anyone who suffers from video game motion sickness.

    I can watch movies/shows at 30 fps, but playing at 30 fps is impossible for me. I feel like there is a disconnect between my input and the motion fidelity of the object i'm trying to control.
    No issues with 60 fps+ however, on the contrary - it feels responsive and I experience no motion sickness that people seem to be getting. If anything I'm getting dizzy from playing anything at 30 fps.

    I bought a 144 Hz monitor a year ago and was struggling with simulation disease from day one. I just played Entropy: Zero (HF2 mod) at 300+ fps and I got extremely sick. On the other hand, I have been able to play games like Fallout 4 on the PS4 without problems, which in the best case runs at 30 fps.

    whats weird is that, for a long time now, ive played plenty of videogames in 60fps and almost always turning motion blur completely off and ive never noticed my body having a problem with it. maybe im an anomaly, but we should take into account that some people genuinely dont have this problem even if alot of other people do. i think as many games as possible should be built to be perfectly playable at variable framerates, atleast between 30 and 60.

    In fact, I've had sleepless nights because my brain can't seem to switch off from the game.

    I had never experienced motion sickness from playing a video game until last week. I was playing a mod of Super Mario 64 and the frame rate was uncapped, but the mod was buggy. The rate stuttered constantly between 60 fps and 10 fps. After playing for 5 minutes I was sick and had a migraine for over and hour and a half. I think I'm going to need to pay more attention to the settings I set for the games I play so I never go through that again. 🤢

    The best solution for this is to sit far from monitor and play using joystick or setup ur keyboard and mouse at that distance. Will work for!

    I was specifically searching for a video like this! Looked at the Gravity Rush comparison video, and yes, motion blur helps a lot. Thanks to you I figured out that a lot of detailed texture rotating around is what causes it for me! 👍🙏 I feel queasy in the stomach even now after watching just a bit of unblurred footage 😐

    Over the years my motion sickness has gotten really sensitive. I’ve noticed it gets worst when I have to search for things (like any battle royal). Was also diagnosed with RRMS (multiple sclerosis). So my brain might be doing all types of weird crap 😂. I hope with the new generation of consoles I can tinker more with the frame rates and find out what’s best. Thanks for the informative video.

    Bro I have been searching why for ages. I get motion sickness playing games at 100fps or more but once I lock it to 60 or 70 FPS. I feel totally normal and can play for longer hours.
    Edit. I have been playing at less than 60 FPS my whole life and I am 20. But as soon as I got a 240hz laptop I noticed I got the sickness I usually get in cars. This is really trippy.

    Problem is my brain have to get used to the fps change, if i am playing or watching something at 30 fps and then suddenly changing to 60 i have to play for 20 or 30 minutes to get used, normally i dont feel sick but a little uncomfortable. Other than that, 60 fps is the way.
    The 1st person games like dying light with all that parkour, i had to get used to it for the first 2 hours, after that i am comfortable.
    I always turn off motion blur cuz it sucks very bad, lower mouse sensibility (Personal preference) and turn on V-Sync.

    Maybe the people playing videogames aren't the demographic who experience nausea with higher fps. The higher the fps the more motion sickness and eye strain headaches I get. I have pretty much given up on watching anything anymore, and tend to listen to videos rather than risk feeling like I'm on the top of a double decker bus doing loop-the-loops in a disco ball.

      Damn that's rough, but interesting! I think it'd be cool to get more research done on people who have particular problems like you have playing first person games. Why do you experience nausea so much more? Is it just genetics, like you are well adapted and sensitive to poisoning? Or is it something about how you grew up. I don't know.

      @@cozyKyra I think I'm kinda picky about the story line. If the game has a rich story then it's totally fine. I will fell sick only after many playthrough. If it's a game like cs, I can't hold on for 20 mins.

    I used to get it a lot on my Xbox. But haven't for ages. My son just bought Black Ops 3 and I am experience motion sickness in that game. It seems pretty smooth in its motion. So wondering if it is the amount of detail being displayed or something else. Not sure why exactly.

    • @jclokwork
      @jclokwork 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder about the detail too. Is everything so bright, too colorful, and too sharp for some people? The current thing now is 4K, HDR, 120hz. Maybe it’s too much information for some to process. I don’t know.

    Ghost recon wildlands for me i do believe because its not running smooth at all. the new tomb raider trilogy i could handle 1 and 2 on my laptop but shadow of the tomb raider frame rate struggled a little bit and made me feel bit ill. i saw on amazon just now motion sickness glasses i show you all link. so its all to do with frame rate not running smooth for me as laptop not running 100 smooth on it but still playable apart from graphical glitches.

    Thanks, bc when I play gta v in my ps4 pro (30fps) I get none motion sickness, but when I play minecraft for ps4 or cities skylines (60fps) I get motion sickness, and they are low pace games, and shooters like call of duty mw give me none motion sickness, and I was really really confused.

    • @rdk2009
      @rdk2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so odd that you get motion sickness from cities skylines. I get incredibly bad motion sickness from first person shooters. But not from cities skylines. I used to play that game for hours each day. Very addicting. Someone should definitely do a study on this because it seems to vary greatly from person to person. And video game.

      rdk2009 yeah, and the weird thing is that i can play ace combat 7 for hours, and its locked to 60 fps, and it acctually feels more comfortable than gta or any other game, its weird, might be the camera movement in cities skylines that makes me motion sick, since im nor used to a camera that moves from that far away

    • @cooldude896095
      @cooldude896095 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dark Waters Yeah but 30 fps in 144hz looks 1000x worse than 30 fps at 30hz. Sorry for the 2-year reply btw.

    • @cooldude896095
      @cooldude896095 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dark Waters I'll put it this way. I have a 95hz monitor. Bethesda games lock your fps to 60. That would mean the game has only 60 frames while my monitor refreshes 95 times in 1 second right? Well, the faster refresh rate makes the 60 fps look choppy. When they match it's smoother. It's the same concept with 60hz and 30 fps. In terms of g-sync, it has a variable refresh rate. If you have 80 fps, your refresh rate is 80. If you have 52, it's 52 so it always looks smooth. I think g-sync had a cut-off at a certain point though. Not sure about that though.
