Second fun fact about ants: recently they discovered a species that medically amputates limbs. The specific species (I sadly don't remember the name) over time lost a genetic trait that usually prevents infection, so instead, they learned to amputate. They actually triage the injured ants during wars, and they found in case 1-2 limbs were amputated, survival chances significantly increased :)
When you are as small as an ant gravity holds no fears. Terminal velocity being far from terminal. However the surface tension of water is more deadly than any tar pit
Common black ants apparently recognize their own, even if an individual comes from another continent. Leading researchers to believe they have "a single mega-colony" that spans the majority of the planet.
If you were part of a fire ant colony, than water wouldn't be an obstacle so much as method of travel. (Seriously, a fire ant raft is a terror to behold.)
I just came across this in the Steam store and wondered if it was worth checking out when Lord Pravus blesses us with a video on it. Truly perfect timing
I was curious about this game, because I loved the old one so much. Unfortunately the ant colony building and scavaging for food was the best part and is completely missing here.
Posdible DLC for this game could be playing as other species of ant in different regions of the world like Army ants from the Amazon rainforest, weaver ants in Asia, or desert ants. Also, the ability to play as termites could be interesting. Imagine a game where you can play as the Arachnid Empire from an alternate version of the Star Troopers universe.
Reminds me of BattleZone 1998, a game set in an alternate timeline from our own. In that game, both the States and the Soviets discovered a supermaterial called bio-metal from meteors that fall to Earth, bringing with it miraculous advances in technology. The Space Race ensues as an official cover story for the escalation of conflict brought about by the search for more bio-metal outside the confines of Earth. It even plays similarly; you the player command your forces, gather bio-metal, build your base, and attempt to annihilate the enemy, all the while keeping yourself alive. The only real difference is that you are just as combat capable alone as any individual unit under your command.
finally someone with rts competence plays this game edit: If you are going to make this a series, I would love to see a less edited version, where we can see you make decisions on what you are going to upgrade or build per nest
*OH SHIT I RECOGNIZE THOSE NAMES* Shoudl've known that the ant game would be inspired by the ant novel. (Really good book by Bernard Werber, highly recommend it)
It's like Brutal Legend but with ants. I was always hoping for a game with that RGP/RTS hybrid style, but I never saw it happening with ants. still neat though.
I would love to see where this game goes if I'm being completely honest. If you can have allies then what's to say that you couldn't command a legion of spiders or Millipedes.
I think the Kingdom under Fire games also did this hero leader with RTS units approach. Brutal Legend was wild though, who expected that to be a strategy game?
@@l0rf Right? I keep meaning to go back and play it again, because I don't think I fully appreciated it. Double Fine did an amazing job with the game (I love the opening alone with the menu being the record jacket and Jack Black searching for it and all)
"Giant" spiders wouldn't stand a chance... Ant Canada had a vid where a colony of fire ants swarmed and basically decapitated and orb weaver spider... it was almost sad to watch.
It looks cool, but I didn't see much progression in the game. Like, does completing missions do anything practical for your ant or colony? It sure didn't seem like it from the video. I want to like this but it seems shallow.
Nah it looks great but plays boring AF... i am 4hrs+ (of 11hrs) in and gave up on it. there is no real strategy nor is there any worth while simulation going on. Jusst mass bug and deathball. enemies are push overs and fights are chaotic (and you just stand dumb around
I would love to see this become a series
This game looks so good and it’s interesting how it’s RTS with RPG elements
Yes pls, Emperor Pravus, bless us with a playthrough❤.
Yes pleaseee ! Loved the style and mechanics of this game. Lord Pravus making it into a series would be the cherry on top
Fun fact: based on biomass, ants can actually be considered the most successful species, as they significantly outweigh humans by total mass :)

@@thijsv948 we live in the ant world not the other way around! 🐜 🐜
How long till the ants to rise up and overthrow the infection called the human race!
@@thijsv948 They de-evolved their immune system... Sounds like they're becoming more human by the generation.
Same goes for cows

That is absolutely the island from a bugs life at 1:35
14:32 The ant workers would bite their enemy's legs to immobilize them so the ant soldiers could decapitate them.
an ant can survive a fall from a jet at crushing altitude the ant will pick up to little velocity
Also, the exoskeleton makes them extremely durable, relative to size ofc.
Thanks for covering this game! I've been curious what it's all about and your review is most helpful in my determination!

this reminds me of Empires of The Undergrowth, just instead of being a strategy game it’s a simulation/roleplaying game
Make this a series on the channel please
That would be awesome! Please, Pravus?

The last time I played a good rts/action adventure game was Brutal Legend

Now we got Mant and Blade: Warbant
Mount and Mandible? Mandible and Blade (Of Grass) ?
finally someone with rts competence plays this game

I’ve been waiting for a game like this. Insect RTS 😊
As a big enjoyer of Empires of the Undergrowth I'll most certainly check this out
its the same people so you probably will like their other games too yeah
Why the music and sfx is only on the left earphones? I can hear you on both earphones but the game only on one

i loved that book. read it 5 times^^

Praise Pravus
I'd describe this as the ants verrsion of Star Wars Battlefront (the older ones)
Wouldn't complain if it turns into a few more episodes
Do more of this pleaseee 🎉
Empire of the Ants novel.. just read it.. its so good^^

audio mixing is a bit messed up, game sound only comes from the left ear of headphones, but voiceover is on both ears.

What is this?
Kingdom Under Fire for ants?
So basically this is bannerlords but ants?
Man. I love ants. This game is beautiful: :-)
… except the spiders! Argh!
Do you have any idea how to get universe at war on pc anymore?
"Creates buggy game" People complain. SHEESH You can't win!
This game looks interesting...but I'm afraid it's full of bugs !

All those fake ads eventually turning into real games

It is buggy for sure
Ah not for console
