3D-printed shredder

  • A while back i uploaded a video of my 3D-printable gearbox and some people told me it looked like a shredder, I thought this was actually a nice idea so i build one. I mainly build this thing just for fun and to show people what the possibilities are with 3D-printed parts because some people still think 3D-prints are not functional and you can only make vases, figures or boats with a 3D-printer. 3D-printed parts of course have their limits like you'll see in the video ;-). Almost every part in this build is 3D-printed, except for the shafts bearings, nuts and bolts etc.
    To drive the shredder i used the gearbox i mentionned above. Video can be found here: • 3D printed high torque...
    The gearbox was powered by a 3S 2200mah LIPO battery With the help of the Universal Motion Controller i made. It's possible to run the gearbox on a 6S LIPO but this would destroy the gears almost immediately in this application.

    The gearbox housing needs either some vertical bolts through it. Or print some pieces like cross sections of I-beam and make channels in the walls of the box to glue them into so they act as tie bars with their print layers 90 degrees to the box layers. Adding a top cover and bracing from the top of the gear box to the shredder box would also make it tougher. Three or four of these stacked would reduce old prints to pretty small pieces, especially if the lower stages used thinner discs.

    Oh wow, this is exactly I wanted to know if it is possible. Interesting that the problems happen in the gearbox more often. I wonder if the shredder parts can be reinforced in some areas and then being used for a long time. Also, if it would help to heat PLA to the point of failure and then shredding it, and if it would then glue to the shredder and clog it up or not.

    can this be made to run by hand with a large lever or is the torque and speed required too hard to produce by hand

  • @Shadow__X
    @Shadow__X 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using less stages for the gearbox would make it stronger i think, because if the last gear is very big you apply less force to the teeth and more is handled by the leverage

    • @Shadow__X
      @Shadow__X 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Making a separate gearbox for the second axle would also improve strength, as the force isn't transmitted from the first stage via the relatively small gears oncthe shafts

    impressive gearbox, but that you have an gearbox is a problem, for every extra part you have is one more potential point of failure. the grinder should have had just one low speed high torque engine that you connect directly to the shredder.

    Hello Brian! I purchased your Fusion 360 file for the shredder and gearbox, but I notice that file includes the old version of the gearbox case. The new improved version you show in this video has a perpendicular surface outside the M5 bracket mounting hole so the M5 nut can lay flat instead of against the angled surface. Is there anyway I can get a copy of the Fusion 360 file for that new design? I can always modify mine, but it would be nice to have any other improvements you might have made.

And thanks for maximum affordability test, maybe can put big bolts at the end of each disc cutter, sharpen the bolt head, make it able to cut harder stuff instead of crashing into pieces 😂
