You should make a segment "Can it Gig?". You can make a bunch of videos like this about guitars, amp and pedal board. Keep the videos coming my man. You can share this idea with The Captain :)
Was out last night at a gig with my Boss Katana 50 and I played on the 25 watt setting with the volume barely past half all night. My drummer is not quiet (noise complaints from across the road from the pub levels of not quiet) but the Katana still had an excellent cut through and sound even on half power at half volume. This is not a sponsored comment but Boss Katana's are fucking awesome and every guitarist should own one.
This is an exceptional demo. We all thought it but you did it. The purist will knock it but not only did it compete sonically but tonally too, great sounds.
Vishal Sheth I may buy just the 100w head with built in 5” speaker. Later I’ll buy a Celestion vintage 30 cab. Since it has USB I can pair it with my Audio Interface for recording. Right now it’s just a toss up as I still want a Helix. Have to make a decision soon tho.
I used my 1x12 100W Katana at a noisy jam session recently. It easily held it's own against a drummer, bass player, and two other guitar players on Laney tube amps.
I saw a band playing live and the guitarist was playing a Katana 50. Believe it or not it was a blues club in Memphis. I spoke to him during the break and he was surprised I recognized the amp. It sounded absolutely killer. He did use a small pedalboard and some tones were from that. I am a tube amp purists but that changed my mind. Technology has come a long way and it’s a great time we live in for guitar players. Thanks Rob for a great video!
Gosh, everybody in Dorje is an awesome musician; Ben, Dave, Rabea, and Rob!! Nobody shines over the rest! Everybody is at the top of their game! Dorje is such a tight band! Great video as always, Rob!!!!
I hit the wrong emoticon. It was meant to be a 🎸. Sorry. Great clarity on the 50 watter but maybe some of the credit should go to the les Paul pick ups 🤔
That Gibson Les Paul warmed my soul and going by Rob's body language when he's playing it it does his too. The PRS just doesn't create the same level of energy but that's what's beautiful about music you get to pick and choose what you want to hear you're not force-fed. It's more like the Les Paul is a language and the PRS is a slang.
i jammed with a friend who is a drummer (mostly deathcore stuff) and he has a very big and loud kit. i had it on 100 watts and the mastervolume not quite halfway. we played for like 2 hours and then my amp went out. it wont turn on again. its now in repair....
yeah this is a great vibe. If I were the producer (LOLLLL) I would try to harness the vibe of this video for this group. I wonder if some of their albums sound kind of like this? Katana 50/PRS is DEFINITELY working here along with the ribbon mics.
Rob, my gosh man, your playing is so much better than ever before. I mean, it was always good, but you can hear the musicality really coming to life in your phasing, the riffs, chord construction... everything! Your really firing on all cylinders bud. I appreciate hearing you reach new heights in your playing after so many years of being a musician. It goes to show you, you always have more to learn, even after years of playing.
I just ordered one of these for $186.55 USD after tax, shipped to my door. I should have it by Monday of next week at the latest. So now, between you and Lee, you've made me purchase a Boss Katana 50, an Orange Dark Terror, Orange TH-30 Head, an Orange PPC212 Open-back cab, and an Orange PPC212 Closed-back cab. Thanks Rob! If I ever make it over to Jolly Ole England, I'll have to stop by Anderton's.
Digging this majorly - everything's clear & up front, and we know it's all honest regardless of sponsorship from your previous vids. The ambient sections in particular I found useful for very local/pub levels, where you can't typically rely on close mic, so raw amp grunt's all you have. Neatly done, fella!
Hello Your reviews were the most convincing for me to make the purchase....just received my 2x12 yesterday and will rehearse with it today. In this video, you say it's a digital amp, however in previous videos and other reviews have stated it's a solid state amp. Anyways, thx again for your great reviews!!!
Hi Rob, awesome playing ! And classic tones too!! I bought two 100 1x12s and a 50 the moment they came out ...sold all my "valve" amps as a result!! Katana's sound better than anything else I've owned and gigged in years!! The valve is finally superseded!!..🎸😎👍
This is a very effective ad. Interesting to watch, informational, and even a bit of artistry thrown in there. You've got a winning combo (no pun intended).
REALLY loved the tech corner at the end and how transparent you were with all the recording information!!! best i've ever seen on a gear video, let alone on a SPONSORED, ENDORSED video. great work!
Great vid Rob and congrats on the sponsorship. Everyone's playing sounds great! I was going to buy one of the Katana Minis based on the Chappers/Andertons review for my GF's daughter in Brazil, but they're exorbitantly expensive there, so she wound up with a Cube10GX. All good. Might grab one of these 50's for myself.....maybe 2. They'd probably make an awesome stereo rig for not a lot of $. After playing with stereo all the time with a 500x I don't think i'd go back to mono.
I turned up to a rehearsal where the rhythm player, who was just a teenager, whom I hadn't met before we did this one-off function at a school, had a Boss Katana, and I hadn't heard it before and I was actually blown away how good his simple Squire Strat straight into the Katana's sound was. And were were playing on a stage in a 450 person auditorium at a school, which was acoustically treated, so it was an amazing room, but even still we weren't micing anything in order to keep it simple, and it was PLENTY loud enough to fill the room with guitar sound. He didn't even use it on 50 watt mode, he put it in 25 so that he could push it harder at about 80% volume and have a nicer gain sound, it sounded a bit too clanky and bonkey on the 50 watt. They're SERIOUSLY impressive amplifiers for the money.
I am picking up my 50 this week, when my favorite local store restocks. First real amp to replace my crappy starter amp. Hopefully the last amp I'll need for a long time to come.
holy moly mr, chapman himself replied to me, thx rob!! indeed, really look up to what you have accomplished, you went from youtube guitar player to full esp endorsee and then guitar company owner, and you have an amazing band, dorje, full respect to you, sir
Great video, guys, thank you! I would answer, yes, you can gig. Just be judicious in settings up your banks for the guitars you will use. Less is more = reliability.
The subject matter isn't relevant for me, but the playing here was gorgeous and lovely. The Les Paul really fit the bill, even though the PRS looks a gem.
This might be the most informative sponsored vid I have ever seen. I tried a 50 and didn't like it much in store, but maybe I should go back one day and it give it a little more time and tweaking. I really want one of these - ideal weight, size, and versatility for my playing environment. I loved the 100-watter I tried - almost impossible to dial in a bad sound.
This was a terrific concept for a video, please do more demonstrating how well various amps can hang in a live mix! Home run, Rob (oh, that's stateside lingo.... I guess I meant "you're the dog's balls" or something ).
Yeah, I love my Katana 100. First got interested in it after your reviews and the boys at Andertons using it for so many "sound like" videos. After checking it out, I finally sprung for it and couldn't be happier.
I switched from a Boss Katana 100 to a Fender Mustang V. The regular series. Imo, for recording and practicing with headphones, the Fender sounds a lot better distorted. I got mine used for $110 then bought a Marshall MG412 cab for $100. Unbeatable combination for this kind of thing. My Katana is current dusting down somewhere in my room
Finally Chappers!! You've finally been sponsored after praising the thing for a year and even very subtely had something to do with the Boss branding on the amp instead of Roland. They should've sponsored you ages ago. You're probably the reason most of the amps were bought. I certainly know you're the reason for me.
I am glad that Chappers had some influence with Boss. To come up with the Katana range at that price is one helluva achievement. The icing on the cake is the Tone Studio and S/W upgrade for FREE!
I bought one in august to substitute my orange big head and my cab only for my weekly repetitions without breaking my back every friday nights... and finally I play this katana little beast more frequently than my main amp! It sounds awesome in the mix and works really well to play with a loud drumer Word half volume like you said. Personnaly I mainly use the crunch channel that has enought gain to play every thing you want from classic rock to heavy metal with a overdrive boost like a tubescreamer. Good video Rob !
It’s amazing how far digital modeling tech has come along. My old Line 6 POD 2.0 direct recording amp blew on me, so I replaced it with the Line 6 Amplifi TT and, oh my god, that sounds so much better.
Man, Rob that was impressive. Its almost like you guys are in a band together ;) That amp though is VERY impressive. I might have to replace my Blackstar ID Core.
Carlos Lamus Please replace your Id Core. I was about to get an ID core but, I played the Boss and there was no comparison at all. The tone is very authentic! Honestly, they only thing that the blackstar has to offer over the boss is the built-in looper and stereo. Other than that, the boss destroys the Blackstar in terms of tone but, to each their own. The Blackstar is a great amp though.
Thx! I am going to pick up some version of this amp if it goes on sale during the holidays. Was considering the 2X12. Thank you for your info, sir. Really, the hundred watt head with the small speaker seems to be a great way to go.
Got the head (100Watt) and use it with a Matrix NL212 cab. I haven't been able to turn it up to max yet. It sounds big enough and plenty loud! And of course this bundle is lightweight!
Two days ago I cracked and bought the 100W 1x12 with the footswitch...massive upgrade from my 15W Marshall MG15CF and I have to say I'm absolutely over the moon! Super super happy with it and for the money it's just incredible!
Humberto Pavón exactly, the hands just carry the way YOU play. Meaning what dynamics you use while playing, certain scales, licks ect. Most tonal properties come from the gear such as amp, mics and guitars
I almost got the 100, but got the 50 instead and I'm happy with it. The only thing the 50 lacks is an EFX loop, but that's no real issue for me. Plus, I really only use the 0.5w setting and it is more than plenty for jamming out in my room. I can get it to sound loud without having uncontrollable feedback and vibrating the walls, lol. It's an impressive little amp.
Hi, Rob! Could you share some of your preferred settings for Katana? Some "basic clean tone", "simple crunch" and "simple high gain tone" you mentioned in the video.
Great video that answers a question a lot of perspective buyers are asking. Great work Rob Chapman. Overall, the amp passed with flying colours - amazing value.
I actually have been waiting for this. Been wanting to upgrade my practice amp so I'm not putting my mesa on incredibly low volumes late at night. Thank you Rob!
Katana Vs Normal Gig Rig! (or Kemper + cab) - Spend ££££££££££££££££££££ on lovely tubes or can we just spend £189 and be done with it? (and spend the savings on some nice guitars instead) :)
Solid state amps have had trouble with their on board distortion sounding good, but distortion pedals and fuzz pedals bring their own tones. Andertons recently ran a bunch of distortion pedals through a tube amp, but what would the choices be through a solid state amp such as this amp.
I am definitely gonna pick up the 50. It's all I really need. I'm not a professional gig player, but I do play for the Church I attend. Also, the bass player's grinding tone is unbelievable. He sounds so good when you are soloing.
You should make a segment "Can it Gig?". You can make a bunch of videos like this about guitars, amp and pedal board. Keep the videos coming my man. You can share this idea with The Captain :)
Yeeeesssss!!!!!!!!
Yes pls
Yes pleasee
Jubei Kibagami all of my yesssss!!!!!!
Very cool idea
Was out last night at a gig with my Boss Katana 50 and I played on the 25 watt setting with the volume barely past half all night. This is not a sponsored comment but Boss Katana's are fucking awesome and every guitarist should own one.
I have the 212, and the volume is never pass a 1/3[channel] and i drive the amp with the MV set over half- 100w] and i struggle to hear the drummer!!!
I have just bought mine then i found this video :D i think i may have done one of my best buyings in my life, hope it so XD
Gigged with it last night on 25 watts. Channel volume maxed and master somewhere between 10:00 - 11:00. It was plenty loud.
Bullshit.
I have this one ;)
This is an exceptional demo. We all thought it but you did it. The purist will knock it but not only did it compete sonically but tonally too, great sounds.
JamCave Studio To be honest, I would rather buy this than any sub $1000 amp
I am thinking of getting it for Christmas. It sounds so good & has so many positive reviews that it almost seems unreal.
Vishal Sheth I may buy just the 100w head with built in 5” speaker. Later I’ll buy a Celestion vintage 30 cab. Since it has USB I can pair it with my Audio Interface for recording. Right now it’s just a toss up as I still want a Helix. Have to make a decision soon tho.

angus2016young 😂
+Tom Goldsmith guitar What's so funny?
Tom Goldsmith guitar I don’t get it
I hit the wrong emoticon. It was meant to be a 🎸. Sorry. Great clarity on the 50 watter but maybe some of the credit should go to the les Paul pick ups 🤔
great haircuts too!!
I love my Katana 50, it's perfect for me- highly recommend to anyone. The versatility is incredible, plus it's small, loud, & portable
That Gibson Les Paul warmed my soul and going by Rob's body language when he's playing it it does his too. The PRS just doesn't create the same level of energy but that's what's beautiful about music you get to pick and choose what you want to hear you're not force-fed. What I like about robs boss endorsement is that he clearly loved the products even before the endorsement. Grats rob. Im gonne get me one too
"Grats" rob??? WTF??? 🤔
Tried my 100w katana at a gig and couldn't get it louder than about half power on 50w mode. Any louder and I wouldn't have heard the drummer !
hahahahahah
i jammed with a friend who is a drummer (mostly deathcore stuff) and he has a very big and loud kit. i had it on 100 watts and the mastervolume not quite halfway. we played for like 2 hours and then my amp went out. it wont turn on again. its now in repair....
@@abovethedownside2521 how’s it now
Fantastic demo !!! I gonna buy this little guy in the new version !!
This video has some of the best Chappers chops and shred I've ever seen him play! 🤘🏼😆🤘🏼
Yeah he sounds great here, but when he tests stuff on Andertons he always sounds kinda crappy
A good drummer helps
yeah this is a great vibe. If I were the producer (LOLLLL) I would try to harness the vibe of this video for this group. I wonder if some of their albums sound kind of like this? Katana 50/PRS is DEFINITELY working here along with the ribbon mics.
Such is the power of the katana!
I have the 100w 1x12 and a ghost fret pro, does everything I need it to and can definitely get loud enough
Matthew Kirk ohhh nice! What colour ghost fret?
Yeah! Congratz :D
That PRS was just made for you dude. To me, it's the most tonally pleasing I've ever heard your playing.
This video made me buy mine years ago and i don't regret it a little bit.
Love my BOSS Katana 50! The best amp I've bought. Rob, you did a bang up great job of what this amp can do.
Hop over on Doug DeMuro's channel and you'll file for bankruptcy within 4 days tops
Gonna be jammin this Sat using a Katana 50, very helpful video!
Woooh Rob you do really thrive in a band situation. Awesome tones and beautiful playing! Will be checking out more of the dorje stuff.
Good amp...Boss killing it as always
That's impressive for its price range!
I
its impressive full stop
Yeah, truly a great sounding amp.
NO its not impressive. It is unprecedented. You cannot get anything to compete with this amp for almost double.
Yes you can, the katana 100...
My 100 Watt head arrives tomorrow! Thanks for all the great music and humor!
Rob you are an amazing player, musician and business man. And I LOVE that PRS you are playing in this vid.
Love the drummer and all the unnesscessary tech explanation at the end. Excellent demo guys.
Not the main focus of the video of course, however I just want to say Rob, your playing is on point in this video! Really enjoyed it thanks
Digging this majorly - everything's clear & up front, and we know it's all honest regardless of sponsorship from your previous vids. The ambient sections in particular I found useful for very local/pub levels, where you can't typically rely on close mic, so raw amp grunt's all you have. Neatly done, fella!
Mmmh that drumming beginning at 8:24 is absolutely on point..So good you can almost taste it
Creamy Underpoon ...I totally agree...he's really groovin' man...Chappers throws some tasty lucks too...shades of Satch...
Heaven when you have a studio like that and with a drummer and bassists like those! wow. Awesome shit.
Hello
Your reviews were the most convincing for me to make the purchase....just received my 2x12 yesterday and will rehearse with it today.
In this video, you say it's a digital amp, however in previous videos and other reviews have stated it's a solid state amp.
Anyways, thx again for your great reviews!!!
lee oswald They are wrong.
It’s a digital amp but it’s class a/b so not like most other Similar amps which are class D
That's what classical Roland JS-120 is all about. Super loud and tight but of course its absolutely different beast from the price point too)))
No talking 0:00 1:03 3:23 5:16 6:33 (great!) 8:24 (great too!) 12:07
this has to be your best video yet. great playing
Great vid.
That PRS is beautiful.
that prs Rob sounds amazingly in your hands, you two are made for each other
Really well-produced demo! It sounds really great guys! Good job!
Super helpful video Rob! I have a Boss Katana 50w and now I feel like I will have this amp for a very long time. Even if I start gigging. Thanks.
That PRS sound absolutely mint
REALLY loved the tech corner at the end and how transparent you were with all the recording information!!! best i've ever seen on a gear video, let alone on a SPONSORED, ENDORSED video. great work!
Boss Katana slices and cuts thru the drums and bass like a Samurai.
This is one of the best gear reviews I have seen in my entire life. Thank you.
Bens new hair is sick! Also i love how good that Katana is sounding in the mix, for the price theyre awesome, i love my 100w one
Katana really sits in the mix!
....Now buying one
You nailed it Rob. I'm delighted I purchased one and because of your vids I'm getting reacquainted with this amp. Thanks.
This is pleasure for my ear holes thanks Rob, Dave, and Ben. You guy's are awesome.
I am picking up my 50 this week, when my favorite local store restocks. First real amp to replace my crappy starter amp. Hopefully the last amp I'll need for a long time to come.
We could c robs creativity oozing out in this video. Sounds amazing all of u
Great video Rob. That 594 sounds insane. Theo is lucky to have an amazing first guitar!
Thank you for the most practical video to answer the one question I had on this amp and buying it vs. the 100. This should be fine!
Theo's PRS is so bloody nice! Lucky boy :)
Sounds huge!! Love it. Katana goes on the list
Love when you play for the song
Me too... wish I was hired to do that more often ;-)
holy moly mr, chapman himself replied to me, thx rob!! indeed, really look up to what you have accomplished, you went from youtube guitar player to full esp endorsee and then guitar company owner, and you have an amazing band, dorje, full respect to you, sir
Great video, guys, thank you! I would answer, yes, you can gig. Just be judicious in settings up your banks for the guitars you will use. Less is more = reliability.
Stoked you kept the PRS, it sounds killer!
Yes it does !
Great review. Totally enjoyed watching from beginning till end. Thanks!
The subject matter isn't relevant for me, but the playing here was gorgeous and lovely. The Les Paul really fit the bill, even though the PRS looks a gem.

I really want one of these - ideal weight, size, and versatility for my playing environment. I loved the 100-watter I tried - almost impossible to dial in a bad sound.
This PRS at the beginning is a masterpiece
Holy cow! Now that was impressive!!! Great demo, thanks!
This was a terrific concept for a video, please do more demonstrating how well various amps can hang in a live mix! Home run, Rob (oh, that's stateside lingo.... I guess I meant "you're the dog's balls" or something ).
Goo job Dave! Even the ambient room sound, sounds terrific!
Yeah, I love my Katana 100. First got interested in it after your reviews and the boys at Andertons using it for so many "sound like" videos. After checking it out, I finally sprung for it and couldn't be happier.
I really regret getting a Mustang GT40...
Hello Boss employee
@Everything the 50xl?
@Everything what?
Sell it and join Boss
sounds killer,im quite impressed.that prs is STUNNING,love the les paul equally if not more but either one would suit me for life.
Finally Chappers!! You've finally been sponsored after praising the thing for a year and even very subtely had something to do with the Boss branding on the amp instead of Roland. They should've sponsored you ages ago. You're probably the reason most of the amps were bought. I certainly know you're the reason for me.
Same here. Replaced my Blackstar ID:Core 10 Stereo (V1) with Katana 50 for practice.
Thanks dude, yes very proud to be involved with Boss - great guys and awesome gear ;-)
I agree. You should have been sponsored long ago. Congrats! And way to go with the transparency. That's how it should be done.
I am glad that Chappers had some influence with Boss. To come up with the Katana range at that price is one helluva achievement. The icing on the cake is the Tone Studio and S/W upgrade for FREE!
Bro I see you everywhere
This is exactly what I wanted to see - and at Brighton Electric too. Double Win !!! Thanks Rob
That PRS 594 sounds Ace!
Good video Rob !
top 10 anime battles
It’s amazing how far digital modeling tech has come along. My old Line 6 POD 2.0 direct recording amp blew on me, so I replaced it with the Line 6 Amplifi TT and, oh my god, that sounds so much better.
im glad i bought the 100 watt version of this
Cant wait until i see you live again! It was so awesome !
What a fun vid to watch ... thanks guys !! Great players all.
That 594 though. Probably the best guitar ever.
Great playing and review. The drummer hiting "invisible toms" is just hilarious, really well played thou.
I have the 2x12 and if you are thinking of route just buy the 1x12 and save money. The 2x12 does not have a very big sound for 2 12" speakers.
Junior's Guitar Ranch Or the 100 head and a nice cab.
Agreed
The head will sound better for sure since you can use the cab of your choice.. Katana combo's just are not that good, all internet hype.
Well you just sold me ! Damn nice!
7:36 wow, mr chapman mastered a new trick
kilerkai Some new good stuff coming soon!!
Two days ago I cracked and bought the 100W 1x12 with the footswitch...massive upgrade from my 15W Marshall MG15CF and I have to say I'm absolutely over the moon! Super super happy with it and for the money it's just incredible!
I must say... Rob's tone is in his hand 😁 .... His tone almost the same wether he use tube, digital like kemper or this solid-state/digital thingy
...
IT IS HIS BRAIN NOT HANDS. I have seen people play a guitar with their feet. !!!!!! NO HANDS
In his balls!!
i think it his unusually strange thumb .
Boy Aditya the thing is that he always set up the same tone. The musicality is in your hands, the tone definitely in the gear.
Humberto Pavón exactly, the hands just carry the way YOU play. Meaning what dynamics you use while playing, certain scales, licks ect. Most tonal properties come from the gear such as amp, mics and guitars
Another reason to get myself a Katana. I’ll buy the 100W though. The pricing is incredible for what you get.
Georg Mierau sure dude :-)
This was a great video and totally appreciate the sound on this video. More like this please.
Rob have you done a comparison of the 50w vs 100w? Which has more bass and fullness.
Great video that answers a question a lot of perspective buyers are asking. Great work Rob Chapman. Overall, the amp passed with flying colours - amazing value.
#Solid state has come a LONG WAY!
Good to see that rad sounding PRS in a vid.
Should do another solid state vs valve challenge with this amp
Solid state amps have had trouble with their on board distortion sounding good, but distortion pedals and fuzz pedals bring their own tones. Andertons recently ran a bunch of distortion pedals through a tube amp, but what would the choices be through a solid state amp such as this amp.
Best amp I could ask for given that I'm a beginner. Definitely grateful that Rob made videos on the Boss Katana amps.
Lol, who else thought this was going to be a sword fight
Tom Chambers
I dared to hope
Ha ha ha ha I wish!! Maybe next time
Especially being subscribed to various sword related channels, I had to look twice at the channel name
+derjohnnyb90 ah, i see you're a man of culture as well
For a second I thought so
I am definitely gonna pick up the 50. It's all I really need. I'm not a professional gig player, but I do play for the Church I attend. Also, the bass player's grinding tone is unbelievable. He sounds so good when you are soloing.
How did it work out if you bought one?
nat : I thought that PRS was for your son...
rob : it WAS! Now it isn't..and later it will be his again..
nat : ........
Very VERY nice work Mr. Chapman. My hat is off to you sir.
Dammmmmmm that prs is magical, I have a feeling that Rob is going to fall in love with it and Theo won't get his 18th birthday present 😅
Tomer Avira גם לי יש הרגשה שזה בסוף יקרה😂
