@Incognitive Distortion i tested the 50 and 100 in gc the other day. go for the 100 if you wanna use your own pedals, as the 50 doesn't have an fx loop.
God, I could listen to this guy play all day long. Everything he plays is just awesome, and his execution is fantastic. Awesome guitarist and ALWAYS has wonderful tone .
I picked up a katana 100 watt couple of weeks ago primarily as a result of seeing it on your various reviews. It's a great amp. I love it. I need to stop watching your videos though. I'm running out of money!
I got my 50 watt today and its impossible to describe the liveliness and feel that this thing produces. You can roll of the volume and its just like a tube amp.

This video is what sold me on the Katana amps. Before I saw this, I was fairly interested. However, none of the other reviews/demos I saw actually showed the HUGE amount of things you can do if you plug it into your PC! Thank you SO MUCH for actually showing the Tone Studio software and what it can do. These are already popular amps, but I feel like they'd be even more popular if more people showed off the insane amount of things it can do if you use the editing software! I had no idea!
Exactly man. I bought one as a result of watching Chappers and the Captains video and I couldn’t be more happy with this amp. A phenomenal value for $200. Just sick. Great video.
Great Video! I love how the Katana is really getting picked up more and more by more well known guitarists and TH-camrs like you! I use my Katana 100 2x12 for everything from practising to gigs, and I'm heading to a studio with my band tomorrow to record an EP with the Katana and all its effects!
Rabea, your playing is some of the most gorgeous, and soulful tones I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. You are a big inspiration for me in my playing and I hope to see you go on to be one of the greats.
Wow reviewers really need to be talking about the stuff you can do in the PC application. I've been considering this amp for a while and have watched several reviews, and honestly had no idea you could even plug it in to your PC to adjust things, let alone do this much! I'm DEFINITELY getting one of these now.
I purchased this amp after watching this video and I must say it is FANTASTIC... love that I can play it in my apartment without disturbing the neighbors at the 0.5W setting but then play loud enough to gig with as well.... wonderful amp... thanks Bea
Great demo. One added feature after software update is 4 channels expanded to 8 with editor. I was on the fence between 50 and 100, but now the 50 has , 8 presents available!
At 13:48 you started playing a little ditty with the harmonist that really had me going. I drifted of visualising tranquility, magical pools with little waterfalls.........no drugs. No booze. You are onto something there my fuzzy haired friend. Seriously.
I just picked one of these amps up, $219 in the states and I have absolutely fallen in love with it over the last few days, and I haven't even got the cord to hook it to the PC yet to start playing in the sound lab. As someone coming back to the guitar after ~20 year hiatus, I cannot recommend it enough, for the money I doubt anything can touch it.

This *will* be my next amplifier. But, I just have to say it: this is some very wonderfully expressive playing, and without a doubt one of my very favorite amp reviews. Ever.
I’ve had issues with practicing because I’ve been so bored with it, but I picked up this amp yesterday and I played for 3 hours straight today and then another 2 hours just now. Love this amp!
It's not just that. You can also modify cabinet resonance and tone which massively changes the way it sounds. You can easily get HUGE low-mids for metal, just like you can easily get a more clean sound.
Man, I appreciate the making of this video. I'm just starting out with guitar at 46... I like this "all in one box" concept at this price point. You've taken the time to give an idea of what you can do with the editor once you plug your katana into a computer Oh, and the comic books in the background sold me on subscribing to your channel, not that I needed more reason... I dig that you've got them on display!
Your attention to and demoing of multiple tones with multiple guitars is refreshing. The brief jazzy lines tell me more about the amp than straight distorted squealing. Don't tell Rob, but I prefer your reviews to his.
I have that amp love it. really like the sounds you get. I'm so "no tech" too lazy to try and figure out how to do that... One of these days I'll figure it out...
Thank you for this video. I just went and purchased the same amp. Watching this video really has helped open up more of the fun features this amp has to offer. Again, thank you from Canada
Should do a ss head battle boss katana 100h, marshall code100h, orange cr120h, blackstar id100tvp...any others you might think of. Into 4x12 then do a valve head battle of simular priced amp heads like the dsl15h, tweaker 15, blackstar ht5rh or studio 20, the 3 mini peaveys, TubeMeisters. Then battle the winners against each other valve vs ss round 2
DragonRoLo orange CR120 is a far better amp then any of those. Look up a man named Dave Simpson, he has a video series where he gets famous tones on this amp. You will want one after watching it.
PCMESS yeah I fallow Dave great video on the cr120 for sure along with other gear. Tvp is pretty good though I have the id15tvp and it sounded way better than the code, katana and mustang v2 when I run it into a bigger speaker that is. It really shines when pushed with an overdrive after playing my buddies airis effects savage drive into it. I might just need to push my peavey xxl with some pedals and leave getting a new amp until at least after 2018namm show. Just upload some short videos of my dad playing some blues. It helps having a better player trying out your gear to get a better idea of what you can achieve for sure.
ive been playing guitar a little over a year now. as an average player all i had to begin with was a vox pathfinder because it seemed like a good starting amp. now ive actually got better and learned a few songs im finding that the amp itself is holding me back. Watching this video has made up my mind in terms of what amp to go for. So thank you very much :)
Who needs huge amps with a small stage? There are so many good smaller amps now days unlike how it used to be. That Kata 50 is more of a medium amp to me. One of my guitar teachers in music school said you don't need a huge amp for a small venue. Also amps that are not giant are easier to carry L0L🤘
Completely sold on these, as well as the DD-500 and RV-500. This is top of the list and I'll be sure to grab the other two when I've another couple of hundred. Cheers, Bea!
I just bought the 100w head and im blown away with it. It's not a tube amp but does have that nice break up when pushed. I've held back buying it but better late than never. Its got great cleans, nice crunch and a great 80's-90's alternative metal sound. All in all I'm chuffed with it. I didn't buy it expecting it to sound as good as a kemper or as good as a full valve head. With those two taken out its the best solid state/digital amo I've ever played/owned.
I tried one at my local music store and initially I wasn't too impressed. Then I started taking some time to really tweak around with it, mess around with some effects. The next 30 mins completely changed my impressions. This amp just sounds SO DAMN good. I honestly for the life of me cannot remember the last time I played an amp that sounded this good at this volume. At typical music store volumes it completely smoked my JVM410C. I just could not stop playing. I must have spent at least an hour just playing and messing around with the amp models and effects, and there are a lot of really, really good tones in this thing. I would have bought the amp right then and there, if I didn't have to go back home to check whether I had a place in my apartment for it. Now that I figured I'd just stack it on top of my JVM, this is the very next on my to-buy list. To anyone on the fence about this, you really have to try it. It's fucking good.
Dude, I think you could sell patch packs for BOSS Katana and other modelling amps (like the Kemper) through your website; There's a lot of people out there that are lost when it comes to this sort of stuff, especially just tweaking in goods sounds. You could do a "Toska Tones" pack, "Strat" packs, and, you could even do a bunch of "Sounds Like" packs; that would be awesome. $5-$15 or something. Just buy, and download the patches to load onto your own rigs. Is that something that can be done, or you'd consider? Jim
It's a bit different because unlike something like the Kemper or Axe FX, the Katana has an identity. It's an analogue amp at heart with digital effects. It's not a straight digital modeling amp. So you can't go thru and change it so much that it's EXACTLY like a 5150 or Dual Recti or a Twin, it's always gonna be able to get close to that sound but it's just because it's a versatile amp, not a modeler.
I bought a Katana 50 as soon as they came out.!! Gig it every weekend. Got tw 100w 1x12 Katana's afterwards too. Sold my valve combos....best amps I've owned in a very long time.. And I've been gigging for over 40 yrs!!! 🎸😎
Bea have you made some modern metal matches? I got the Illumo tone from the Tone studio! Also, you should check the online website to share patches, someone made a patch of Toska tones!
@@philwoodward3922 I really have nothing bad to say about the Orange 35RT. It was a great little amp. In all honestly I was kinda shocked to find that the sealed Orange speaker sounds a bit more bassy than the hollowed open back Katana (its supposed to be the other way around) but the Boss Tone Studio just gives you so many more options to play around with that it is a far better investment. You get way more for your $. I have one channel set to acoustic simulator, one to SRV/ Hendrix, one to 80s hair metal and another to classic rock sound. Its awesome being able to click between them instantaneously with a foot switch. Brilliant design and its cheaper than the ORange. The only negative about the Katana is that its a pain in the arse to get the Boss Tone Studio set up and running correctly. Dont waste your time with the online driver for your PC. It will not autodownload like its supposd to if youre running Windows 10. Just call Boss Roland tech support and they will email you the actual driver (.exe) file. And be sure to use a USB 2.0 instead of a 3.0 to avoid any conflicts.
Those tones you've just described are EXACTLY what I'm going for too so the Katana sounds perfect for my needs - is it the 50 watt version you have? Thanks for the tip about Tone Studio too, I'll defo get in touch with Boss regarding the better driver!
@@philwoodward3922 Yeah I have the 50 and its plenty loud for practicing with a drummer and basist. Rarely do I turn it above 25 watt when sitting around the house practicing. Youll love it man! The 100 watt comes with a Presence adjustment, 8 preset save slots and an effects loop. I guess I should have mentioned this earlier but the 50 watt does NOT include an effects loop. Its not like you need it for practicing though
Nice demo, i love your funky bluesy playing!! Its nice to hear your tone and technique without the shredding. The busy stuff gets tiring to the ear after awhile.
Solid state amps and technology have come a long way. Thanks for showcasing this amp. A lot of people probably wouldn’t give this amp second look (myself included) considering it’s solid state, it’s affordable and it comes with a ton of built in effects and features. It’s almost like this amp is too good to be true. Great video Rabea.
Ryan Straub hi so what valve amp would you suggest instead 20-50 watt ( forget the price)we are talking sound, versatility , ease of use, recording thank you
If it sounds good, it is good, the gear snobs need to wake up, Boss have changed the rules with their Katana amps.....these are serious gigging amps...my Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue stays at home while the Katana 50 comes to the gig.....enjoy your amp Sid, the snobs are just plain wrong..
bro ask ko lang kung mahirap ba sya gamitin at first? ano mga kailangan gawin para ma ayos yung tone ng amp? sorry beginner palang ako la pa ko masyado alam sa mga ganun hehe thanks :)
Hey Bea! I'm thinking about getting the Katana Mini as a home practice amp for my study abroad term (I can't and really don't want to carry my 50 watt tube amp) Good idea or nah? I just want an amp to noodle around and practice on, but it should still sound good Thank you in advance! Love and support from Germany!
eXtendedmusicHD - it definitely would work. I have the 100 watt and have full intentions of buying the mini to carry around. I played it once and was sold on it
If it´s for home practice, get the Katana 50...it´s light (10-11 kg), nice for home practice and you can use it for small jams or gigs if you want. The Katana mini is worth when you need a very portable amp that can work with batteries. If is that the case, go for the Katana mini, If not...get the Katana 50 or 100. All of them are awesome value. A really good feature is that you can record with the USB without mics or audio interfaces.
Probably not going to have a gigging opportunity, so therefore just need something that can set on a desk. Thanks to all of you - gonna get the katana mini!
I bought this model a few months ago after trying it in a music store a few times. Sounded pretty darn good. After getting it home & turning the volume up past 1, it was immediately very disappointing. Zero low end, it sounded very "box-ey" & it would not hook up to my computer no matter what I tried. Returned it the next day. For me, my Yamaha THR10X is a far better amp in every way.
No offense intended. But I'm almost certain it was operator error. I have to cut my low end out of mine to keep it neat sounding. I have not had that issue in the 6 months that I've had mine. Even at 100 watts playing with a drummer, I can easily dial in more than enough bass. It was made very apparent in this video that with the volume turned up, it still has the low end. Almost too much in Rabea's settings
Bronson Jones No offense intended. I gave the amp a good try, messing with it's settings & volumes for at least 5 or 6 hours after getting it. Maybe I got a bad one? All I can say, for playing aggressive, detuned Metal, it sounded on par with a Line 6 Spider IV 75 watt combo..and that is not a compliment.
Had mine about 8 mouths .It's brilliant and not even plugged it in the PC . Such a glorious pallet on offer . Just dial in what you want and away you go . Even used it at kids party for playing music thru the mp3 in . So easy
3:54 I love the light chuckle Bea held under his breath when he scrolled over it and said Metal Zone
No other demos seem bothered at all about the other pedals on offer. It's cool you've spent the time to get creative and show what's possible :)
it's sad that after over a year being out, there are like 2 or 3 videos that show the editor at all.
i keep hearing the Katana is a what you see is what you get amp. It absolutely is not. It'd be great at that price even if it was only what you have on the panel. It's so much more than that though.

Damn Bea, I love it when you play a strat.
sounded better on the PRS, imo.
True, the amp is great with the PRS, but Bea's strat playing is always awesome!
I liked the Stratocaster

Agreed. No one makes a strat so thick sounding.

The Katana is amazing. I've had it for two months now and my other amps are in my closet. It is a superb piece of equipment.
i just got mine yesterday at first gain tones feels too digital but my ears slowly adjusting to it still considering to return it though.
CarnivorousRoach Its all in your head
I just got mine and tested it at the store and it sounds amazing vs the spider iv which was my first amp and the one i used..
CarnivorousRoach I returned mine. The amp is not terrible but it is extremely overrated and over hyped.
I reallllly... REALLY.. don't think it is. Did you ever mess with the golbal EQ?

I bought a Katana 50 as soon as they came out.!! Gig it every weekend. Got tw 100w 1x12 Katana's afterwards too. Sold my valve combos....best amps I've owned in a very long time..
And I've been gigging for over 40 yrs!!! 🎸😎
Bea have you made some modern metal matches? I got the Illumo tone from the Tone studio! Also, you should check the online website to share patches, someone made a patch of Toska tones!
Are they compatible with the Boss ME-80? I really wanna dig into those tones because i've been trying to nail them.
Axel Xirics they should be, the app looks pretty much the same
I also used the tone studio to get the Illumo intro tone, using reverb with modulation and delay and a smidge of gain
Best demo so far! Great playing too. Digital amps have come a long way and from the sounds I hear, this is some value that can't be beat.
Boy am I regretting passing this amp up for the Orange Crush 35rt...
I traded in and man was it worth It! Get this amp if you don't have it
@@TheJCFan thanks dude, I was looking at a crush35rt too, is it a hue difference in tonal quality etc then?
Thank you for showing the software. I have watched about a dozen videos about this amp and noone showed how the software was like.
11:30 Love it
I never knew I wanted it until I plugged it in . It responds to touch like no other amp for me .
Am I the only one that wants tabs for everything he played??
EVERYONE wants tabs for EVERYTHING he plays
Awesome! Your playing is amazing. I defintely am going to purchase the Katana 50 watt.
Thank you!!
And...In comparisson with the famous Yamaha THR10...what´s your favorite???
Nice demo, i love your funky bluesy playing!! Its nice to hear your tone and technique without the shredding. The busy stuff gets tiring to the ear after awhile.
Awesome vid as usual Bea. Coincidentally* (thanks for the correction lol) I just picked up this amp which I love
SteSto Anime Not really ironic, but congrats
Coincidence rather than irony
Haha yeah you guys are right 😂 that's what I meant. That's what typing a comment early in the morning does to ya lol
That strat segment was fucking sick as hell. I wanna listen to full tracks of that shit.
Dude's lost some serious weight since I last had the pleasure of listening to his playing.
Ikkrrr he lost a lot of weight
Solid state amps and technology have come a long way. Thanks for showcasing this amp. A lot of people probably wouldn’t give this amp second look (myself included) considering it’s solid state, it’s affordable and it comes with a ton of built in effects and features. It’s almost like this amp is too good to be true. Great video Rabea.
Ryan Straub hi so what valve amp would you suggest instead 20-50 watt ( forget the price)we are talking sound, versatility , ease of use, recording thank you
I own this amp and... I love this amp! But people in the Philippines are gear snob nowadays, they kinda hate this amp for how much its worth... Lol
Sid Pablo Damn! Sup bro! Nice to see a fellow Filipino watching Rabea. And yeah, I agree, my fam kinda hates me for my gear lol.
It's awesome amp! I reviewed it.
bro ask ko lang kung mahirap ba sya gamitin at first? ano mga kailangan gawin para ma ayos yung tone ng amp? sorry beginner palang ako la pa ko masyado alam sa mga ganun hehe thanks :)
would you rather sound your best? the best sounding band usually gets the gig
The strat sounds beautiful. That's some soulful playing right there
Hey Bea!
I'm thinking about getting the Katana Mini as a home practice amp for my study abroad term (I can't and really don't want to carry my 50 watt tube amp) Good idea or nah? I just want an amp to noodle around and practice on, but it should still sound good
Thank you in advance! Love and support from Germany!
eXtendedmusicHD - it definitely would work. I have the 100 watt and have full intentions of buying the mini to carry around. I played it once and was sold on it
It's a good idea.
Thanks for the in-depth review. Beautiful playing, man.
I really wish this dude would replace cocky chapman as host with Lee. :p
Ive always thought he was superior player and human in general . ( bea )
Ok mate 🙄
Let’s get a video of you sitting down with that beautiful Gibson you bought at Norman’s rare guitars!
My Katana 50 has great low end. Could it be the room in which you were using yours?
Dale Lyons - something was definitely wrong. Check out the review that Glenn Fricker did over on his channel if you havent already
Your first problem is playing aggressive detuned metal.
Rabea, you have erased any doubts ..I was trying to decide between the Katana and The Marshall Code 50 ...I am sold on the Katana 50...
put a word in to boss for us bass players we need a amp to, we r so sad u gitarist get all the new stuff!!!
I'm not even a bass player but had to like the comment cuz I totally agree.. we (guiyar players)are really spoiled these days...
Had mine about 8 mouths .It's brilliant and not even plugged it in the PC .
Such a glorious pallet on offer .
Just dial in what you want and away you go .
Even used it at kids party for playing music thru the mp3 in .
So easy
