I thought you would have scuba gear on in your next video! I shouldn't joke about the misfortune, especially having experienced the same situation a couple times in the past myself. 😥 I hope the new game table fared well!
Haha! 🤿 Yeah, I would say that 90% of the people I’ve talked to about the water in the basement had a similar story of their own! 😰 There’s no panic like water-coming-into-the-house panic! But thankfully there was very little damage… even though I had a lot of board games just sitting on the floor while we tried to organize everything! And the table was totally fine, thank goodness! ☺️ Thanks for commenting, Patrick!
Point City did subvert expectations quite a bit. I do wish the civic tokens played a bigger role in the scoring. I have an idea for a house rule to try, which might make civic token selection more interesting/impactful.
Subvert expectations in a good way, I hope? ☺ And what would you do to buff up those civic tokens? I'd be eager to give your variant a try! (I have yet to teach Hannah Point City-I'll have to see how she likes it sometime this week! Right now I'm really excited to teach her Sea Salt & Paper! Have you played that one?) 🦀
@@BoardGameDave In a... mixed way? While the game as a whole works well (the selection grid is especially interesting), I think everyone expected there to be more Point Salad, but you can actually do well by getting mostly flat points and only 1-2 civic tokens. I also think it was a missed opportunity to just plop all civic tokens into a big pile, while picking the perfect scoring card in Point Salad was a very urgent thing. My variant idea is to put, say 2 tokens into slots between 2 colors, and you must build a civic card of one of those colors to take a token from that slot. Then when one is taken, you replace it with a new token (maybe even preview what's coming next). I might also consider ruling that some of the high-flat-VP cards actually give a civic token instead of VP, and then proxy up a few [lower] flat VP civic tokens, and have those be the fallback options when you can't get a token that works for you. Not sure how clear that is, but basically instead of getting buildings with, say, 6 VP, you're forced to take a token which might score more or less than 6, or else settle for a token with maybe 4 VP. Haven't played Sea Salt. Just got to play World Wonders, and was VERY impressed by it. You'd probably love it, if you haven't already tried.
Hey, Dale! Sorry I didn't get back to this reply for a while! I see what you're saying about trying to focus the game more toward the civic tokens-I think that makes a lot of sense! I certainly haven't played it enough to have a good grasp on the balance of that vs. just the VP scoring cards! That sounds like an interesting variant, though! ☺️ Sea Salt & Paper is on BGA-we could try it on there sometime! And World Wonders looks really cool! I just added it to my want-to-play list! Maybe we can get together sometime and play some of these games! (Have you given Level Up Retreat any thought?) 🤔
@@BoardGameDaveI'm always down for a game on BGA. I also recently learned Jaipur on there, which is great. Won't be able to make it to Level up, unfortunately. Planning some travel later in Feb. I'll definitely hit Origins this year. I'd like to return to WSBG again too.
@@DaleKeefer Ooo, Jaipur! That's a great one! 🐪 Let's play that and Sea Salt & Paper on BGA! And I'm sorry we won't get to hang out at Level Up-maybe I'll get to see you at Origins again! (But definitely before then, too?) ☺
I didn’t know you didn’t like coop games, I guess it will change once you have kids ;-) I ended up by grabbing Dorfromantik to play with Stella and we have been enjoying it a lot so far with a lot cool stuff to unlock. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Dominika
It's not that I dislike co-op games per se! I just tend to prefer competitive games over the co-op ones! 🤣 And as I was talking about Dorfromantik I was thinking about how Hannah and I would probably really enjoy playing through the game and unlocking the extra components! ☺️ Who knows? Maybe I'll end up getting ourselves a copy! Merry Christmas, Dominika! 🎄

Glad to see a new video up!
Thanks, Gary! A lot of outside forces seem to be getting in the way lately but we're back, baby! 😎
Glad to take the tour w you. 😎.
Haha, thanks! I took that shirt to PAX with me hoping you’d be there! You coming to Level Up? 🤔
@@BoardGameDave I was at my sisters wedding. Lemme look into level up
Oh! Congratulations! 🍾 And yeah, check it out! From what I can tell it should be a more low-key PAX? I’ve got to look into it more myself! 🤣
@@BoardGameDave will do 😎. I see your pinned comment there
Great video! It was fun to hear about your PAXU experiences and the games you got to play👍 Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for checking out the video, Billy! And Merry Christmas to you! 🎄 Do you have any conventions lined up for 2024? ☺️
I'm hoping to go to Dice Tower West and possibly Gen Con, but no firm plans yet.
@@BillyIndiana Sounds fantastic! ☺
