I’d been watching a play through on another channel just before - I don’t know if it’s youtube or me, but I never noticed it retain speed setting between videos before…. And totally agree, I’m new to SU&SD and working my way through their back catalogue of vids & podcasts because they *are* so entertaining.
So nice to see a bunch of games I've never heard of being recommended by SUSD. Their appreciation for party games is something that you don't get from all the people covering mostly Kickstarter dungeon crawlers.
"nana" is (one of) the japanese word(s) for "seven" btw. I'm assuming the 7 pigs are special and cool in some way, and that's why they're golden. Yes I'm one of those people who drops inconsequential, borderline unrelated trivia in the comments of 30 minute videos.
We played Don’t Get Got at a wedding as a little side activity during downtime. Worked great, except for one table (my board gaming group) which resorted to complete silence and intensely staring each other in the eyes, until they gave up and did their tasks elsewhere 😄
„Hans im Glück“ means indeed „lucky Hans“. But most importantly, it’s the title of an old Brothers Grimm fairy tale from around 1800. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_in_Luck
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, Magic The Gathering, Netrunner and now Mindbug! Super-hero, actor and boardgames designer, the dude really can do it all! (I jest I jest, thank you on the suggestions and thank you for your hard work this year)!
Point of information! Gorillas are in fact monkeys, in the same way that an iguana is a lizard and a reptile, and a mallard is a duck and a bird. Monkey is a larger category, and all descendants of that category retain that ancestry. Great apes, like gorillas, bonobos, and humans, are all still monkeys even with that more narrow definition. All of those together are also part of the even larger category of mammals.
If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey / Even if it has a monkey kinda shape / If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey / if it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey it's an ape - Veggie Tales song that continues to live rent free in my head
A few days ago I watched your video about best games to play in the holidays and I instantly bought Wandering Towers (really good by the way). Now what will you sell me?
Oh, I’ve kept seeing _Cat in the Box_ advertised at me or on shelves, and it’s definitely my aesthetic, but I’ve wondered whether it was fun or not. So, thanks for the recommendation!!
Love SUSD, you're my favourite board game channel. It is a little sad though to see reviewers (especially UK ones) support Black Friday. It's a horrible day for retail, postal and warehouse staff. It only exists to create artificial demand and only marginally benefits the consumer. I only say this because just because you're normally so considerate about things like this. We can see industrial action is taking place worldwide today as workers fight for better conditions. It might be time to consider whether slightly cheaper games are worth overlooking these concerns. And if you want cheap games - just wait til January anyhow! Black Friday wasn't even a thing in the UK til a few years ago when a few greedy execs saw literal dollar signs. Looking forward to your next video / podcast, as always. EDIT: I've just seen the Black Friday subtitle has been removed? If this is anything to do with this comment, thank you. If not, it's still a positive haha!
What a cringey take. Lighten up. Black Friday is a thing. Acknowledging it exists is not the same as “supporting” it. Even if it were, who cares? It’s a thing, capitalism is a thing, people buying things for a holiday is a thing, and employees benefiting from their businesses getting a lot of sales is a(n arguably good) thing. SUSD don’t deserve such a pedantic nitpick
They usually have different titles for the first few hours. It's encouraged by TH-cam to use the automatic A/B testing feature where you set multiple titles and/or thumbnails which are randomly served to different users, and after a few hours it defaults to the title that got the most engagement.
I’ve sadly stopped giving/asking for games as gifts because I’ve realized my family just don’t enjoy playing them… last time I was at my brother’s place I saw all of the games I got them in the closet, still shrink wrapped…
@@cazzah49 I do try my best to get them games I think they'll enjoy, but I just don't think they like playing board games. Any time I bring one home for Christmas that I think they'll like, they pretty much just humor me and play it with me but never seem to actually have fun.
Gorillas are apes. According to wikipedia: "Monkey is a common name that may refer to most mammals of the infraorder Simiiformes, also known as the simians. Traditionally, all animals in the group now known as simians are counted as monkeys except the apes, which constitutes an incomplete paraphyletic grouping; however, in the broader sense based on cladistics, apes (Hominoidea) are also included, making the terms monkeys and simians synonyms in regard to their scope." Thus gorillas can be considered monkeys (just don't say that to a librarian). Also yes, I can be considered a monkey (I am a human, thus an ape, if you wondered).
Quick German lesson. Yes "Glück" means "luck" but "hands" would be "Hände" or a singular "Hand" (just like in english). "Hans" is a name. "Hans im Glück" is the name of one of grimms fairytales. A boy Hans travels with payment for his labor home to his mom. He exchanges the payment multiple times for diffrent things and in the end has nothing but is happier for it. The morale is something like material things don't make you happy
That’s quite a handful of games reviewed! I liked the 3 categories of games. Heat Pedal to the Metal has been a big hit amongst the game group I play with. Really nice that it supports up to 6 players.
@9:35 Wow, I am incredibly impressed that SU&SD has already done 235! podcasts. That's 5.3x10^456 podcasts! Assuming an average length of 30 minutes, that's 2.2x10^442 times longer than the age of the universe! Great work, team!
Ark Nova is so aggressively mediocre. Except the 'different action strength' thing it had going on. That's a mechanic I'd like to see in a better game.
Bridge is a FANTASTIC game, but it is a lifestyle game that requires a lot of learning and practice to get proficient. Modern board games are unfortunately killing it off, because who has time to invest in learning and practicing one single game WHEN THERE'S ANOTHER KICKSTARTER TO BACK and another Euro with CUBES TO TRADE FOR OTHER CUBES
@dkinrys pretty much what I thought. But if more gamers knew about it it could be brought into the modern game stable and might get a renaissance: it would fit pretty well with the heavier games.
accidentally watched this at 1.25x and thought the guys were even more manic than usual
LMAO same thing just happened to me. Thought it was intentional till I read your comment
Funnily enough, SU&SD is one of the few channels I don't usually speed up, the lads and lasses really know how to keep my attention.

Accidently read this at 1.25x and it still wasn't interesting 🤷♂️

I LIKE that fact thanks
Also, seven is a luck number in Japan. The pigs in the artwork are holding little four leaf clovers. In game, you win immediately if you get sevens
Ra! Ra! Auction game! Egypt's greatest Reiner theme! Spent all my sun discs on a funeral.

Also Hacksaw Ridge, he was very good in that. 😂😂😂
This guy jests 😏
5:36 I do love Andrew Garfield, he has great range
When you're so keen to tell a Garfield joke that you flub the setup. We love you Richard, and we're sorry
By the way, 'Hans im Glück' is a German fairy tale, which means 'Hans in Luck'.
Tom said "aminals" so seamlessly and naturally that I briefly forgot how that word is actually spelled.
The spontaneous caroling melted my heart 🥹😅😂
The chaotic QVC energy in this video is incredible
HELL YEAH GAMER
For Sale is an absolute killer game; so perfect, almost never the wrong choice to play on any occasion.

I did exactly the same!
Extremely unreasonably excited at the el nombre reference
So what I got from this video is Matt loves Auction games
Matt wants a large sock full of auction games for Christmas.
I recieved blood on the clocktower as a gift. Biggest game gift I've ever done got
Welcome to the cult.
One of us. One of us. One of us.
Now I have "lovely bunch of coconuts" stuck in my head, thanks Matt
Oh, I’ve kept seeing _Cat in the Box_ advertised at me or on shelves, and it’s definitely my aesthetic, but I’ve wondered whether it was fun or not. So, thanks for the recommendation!!
might be my favorite trick taking game and I own almost 20
Tom, I really like your new look. You look like you are taking care of yourself and being your best self ❤🎉
Tom’s point at 22:15 is exactly how I choose presents for my kids
We've got My Gold Mine and Spots, and Stomp the plank arrived a few days ago for Christmas. WHAT'S NEXT?
The German term „Glück“ could mean either „luck“ or „happiness“ (or both) depending on the context.
To add to this, "Hans im Glück" is a well-known fairy tale.
Tom doesn't know who Gandalf is?! Tom strikes me as a man who would enjoy watching the Lord of the Rings
There’s also a book of it now, it’s pretty good.
@@ChairmanAntelopeNothing beats the original Top Trumps it is based on, though.
Tom: Ark Nova!
Me: ah yes, the egg
Playing Heat with Tom was one of the highlights of my WSBG. And it remains one of my favorite games in the last good while.
I love seeing Emily on the channel!!
Im trans too, and it’s really cool seeing her on the team! 🏳️⚧️
I thought I must have dreamt El Nombre because no one else remembers him! Thanks for settling that concern Tom
Same here, El Nombre lives in my head rent free

I also grew up on the wise teachings of El Nombre. I still follow the lesson of don't fall into holes, go AROUND the problem
Yes! Mindbug is so much fun and new sets on the way soon!
I remember El Nombre! Does that make me "young?" oh god please let it make me young...
Tom Brewster the haircut is looking dapper
A 6 year old niece is already getting Stomp the Plank, but two friends may well be getting surprise gifts from this list!
5:51 I think you mean Richard Garfield.
I’ve sadly stopped giving/asking for games as gifts because I’ve realized my family just don’t enjoy playing them… last time I was at my brother’s place I saw all of the games I got them in the closet, still shrink wrapped…
Gifts are for the recipient. Got to know them well to target them right.

aww i just love these guys so much. happy holidays everybody~
Wow, El Nombre! Memory unlocked there. What a trip.
One more that I think should be here, RAILROAD INK!!! Possibly the best roll and write

22;50 - I also thought Matt was doing El Nombre.
I remember el nombre, Tom. something exclusively watched while you were off sick from school.
Fun list! Played some of these games, but excited to try others on the list
props for the nana love! It's absolutely fantastic!
Strong SUSD energy in this video 😁
22:42 parent's face when their kid talks about a TikTok thing they're very excited about
Don't Get Got provides much entertainment for us at UKGE every year.
I remember el nombre. The highlight of my brief tenure in elementary school.
I also remember El Nombre, great lad :D
Good recomendations. Thank you.
How big are Tom's socks?!? 😂
I am delighted to learn other people cannot help saying Andrew Garfield
I prefer Richard Garfield. He was a good Spiderman...
My dad just got coat express for his birthday which would be a great Christmas gift for families and gamers
HANS GET THE FLAMMEMWERFHER
Has the SUSD crew played Maskmen?
Personally it’s my favorite Oink game, and it definitely deserves its time in the sun
"Hans im Glück" (engl. Hans in Luck) is a fairytale by the Grimm brothers
Nana translates to 7 in Japanese which explains why the pigs (7) are gold and the name. 😂
Don't Get Got! Christmas edition is great fun to play over the Christmas period and will fit in an average sized stocking!
Help I saw this video and immediately bought Trek (for myself, not as a present)
Hans is a german name and Hans im Glück is a fairytale.
I know its a lot to ask but is there hope for another susd ti4 playthrough video?
I was NOT expecting to be reminded of el nombre ever again
The hands never lie
Great list😊
Thank you so much!!!! Great list

Dogs have spots, dice have dogs, dogs have dots, dots have spots.
I got really confused over the nail polish....................... I personally think that Bohnanza is the best gift game ever.
I assumed Emily did the B-roll footage for that game
I just got Cat in a Box as a gift and I can't wait to play it!
I wished for some christmas demonic summoning from Emily.
Delightful as always
honestly wouldn't mind if someone gifted me any of these games, good picks
Shout out to the El Nombre mention 😂
I think I'm just gonna pick up Bandido.
I also thought Matt was referencing El Nombre..
2:24 "Like Schrodinger's cat, the card game". Except there IS a card game called Schrodinger's cats, and it's not really like that.
Watched this at .75x speed to keep my heart from exploding.

Really sad that don't get got isn't available in the US! :( That game sounds amazing!

Need more Emily content in my life!!
