Lynx 12 vs Winchester White Box

  • This is a shooting review of the Chinese made Lynx 12. I had seen a number of Lynx videos but none which showed how the shotgun did with the cheapest ammo available. I had fired 1 round before this video, with the gas set to 'off' just to make sure the gun wouldn't have a powered deconstruction. Despite my lack of faith in Chinese craftsmanship, the Lynx was sturdy and easily digested everything from the cheapest Wally World #8 bird shot up through slugs. All of the ammo fired in the video was 2 3/4" length but the Lynx has a 3" chamber. The only 3" ammo I had on hand was 3" magnum and I wanted to check the manual before trying that. The manual, which is the second worst thing about the gun, only says to avoid using "hot loaded" ammo may be dangerous. Whether that means magnum loads is an unanswered question. The worst thing about the weapon is it comes with only a single 5 round magazine. I shouldn't complain too loudly, though, as it was a $400 gun ($430 shipped from Classic Firearms). The fit and finish are meh but it is a solid shotgun. If you're looking for a magazine fed semi-auto shotgun you can't beat the Lynx for the money.
Sorry about the hair and occasional thumb in the video. My wife was recording for me and the wind started to blow a bit.

I was able to shoot Winchester White box ammo through the Lynx on the lowest gas setting. I did have a couple of malfunctions but only when I fired from the hip instead of having the shotgun shouldered. I went back to the highest gas setting and didn't have any malfunctions when firing from the hip. The Lynx continues to impress.

Got mine a couple months ago & I love it.. Atlantic firearms sells to CA for those interested, just add the gas plug to the shopping cart they ship them together & you install. The plug renders is a bolt action shotgun as the shell doesn't eject, you have to do it manually. You get to keep it unmolested & the gas plug only takes a min to install & take out for cleaning purposes ;)..

You are correct able the manual concerning the bolt orientation. For a novice with the AK platform, reassembling the Lynx would be a testing experience. I had to use a rubber mallet to get the dust cover back on the receiver. It is a tight fit.

Quality was really hit or miss on the SKS' depending on what factory made them and how late in production they were. Their AKs were fairly consistent but I have seen some rough ones. I have a Type 56s-1 and Type 84s-1 as well, the fit and finish on both isn't stellar but they run like they should. I have a Lynx 12 3gun edition coming tomorrow and have heard nothing but good things about them. I have heard their "Cheetah" was pretty bad though.

Thanks. I've been very pleased with the Lynx's ability to feed the cheap stuff. I have another video showing the Lynx with ProMag 12 round drum--It is a bit finicky with removing it but has gotten much better with use than you see in that video. From what I've read, Saiga handguards *should* fit the Lynx without modification. However, I haven't done that myself so I can't speak from personal experience. Also, be mindful about the fact that the gun is imported and there are some wonky ATF regs regarding how much of the gun can be made of foreign parts. If I was going to change the handguard I"d probably find something made in the USA just to try to avoid any possible federal entanglements.

Prized only by those who don't know better. The rash of Chinese AK's imported back in the 90's were a cut above junk in terms of fit and finish. They did work ok, but most often the front sight, the rear sight, or both were out of alignment. The Polytech Legends were ok but they too had issues. And I'm not anti Chinese AK, I've owned a lot of them over the years. Just so many were so poorly made. I have a current Lynx LH 12 3G and it is the best built Chinese AK type I have owned.
