  • The Flyers are excellent at reaching the Finals. They have trouble getting over that hump though.

    Yzerman's 13th season and the year he rids himself of the choker label. This year is Ovechkin's 13th season.

    8 times in the finals and sadly only 2 cups. Being a flyers fan is hard sometimes. You have to watch the penguins win a few cups with generational talent and we can't do anything! Damnit

      Being a Penguins-fan isn’t easy either. Sure, now days it’s fantastic but remember that from 1967-1991 the Penguins never made it past the 2nd round and everyone said they would never win. Time changes.

    This was the 1st year I ever got into hockey. I was only around 5 and to this day leclair is still my favorite flyer of all time if he gets into the hall or not. I haven't gotten to taste the sweetness of a cup win yet with my flyers, due to the great goaltending we seem to always have.... I got to go to my first game during that playoffs and will never forget it. Been waiting for you to do this video for the last two weeks and man it was sad to think this team never won anything. Thanks for all your content thg! I love it all and try to never miss a video!

      >due to the great goaltending we seem to always have
      Dude, it's not like you have had an elite defense to help your goalies either. Typical Philly fans that always blames the goalie :D

    • @ND3491
      @ND3491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tompa8989 its comments like this is why I can't wait for him to do the video (he said he was gonna make) on the graveyard of grade a decision making homer did as a gm when it came to the g. Just to stay in the last few goalies from before hexy went to be gm, we traded a future all star goalie for Mason. Yes he had success his first year and fizzled out inconsistently for the rest of his career so far. We signed bryz...for what almost a 10year contract. Not a contract most fans who actually pay attention to the sport liked, now we are paying him till I believe 2025? Happy to see we finally have a gm who wants to develop his goalie and not trade away our future for dying stars.

    Lindros was one of a kind.

    This was the year I really became a Flyers fan (8 years old) and it was heartbreaking... but it was nowhere near as painful as the Eastern Conference Finals in 2000. That was when the Flyers blew a 3-1 series lead over the Devils... only to lose game 7 (2-1) AND have Scott Stevens end Lindros' Philadelphia career in the same game on that vicious head shot.

    The Legion of Doom never REALLY played in a Stanley Cup.
    The Legion of Doom was only 78 games together before Renberg had an injury that permanently changed the player he was.

  • @WolverineIncognito
    @WolverineIncognito 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are absolutely right that goaltending let Philly down. The starting goalie let in a bad goal in every game of the Finals. Can’t get away with that against a team like Detroit

    • @integrity101
      @integrity101 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I just watched game 1 again. Hextall let in one bad goal but had a good game. The defense really blew it as the first two goals were turnovers that led to a breakaway on hextall than a 2 on 0 against Hextall. Bad giveaways. Plus Terry Murray switching goaltenders left & right didnt help

    Couple of ideas for videos
    1. Could you do a video on the dislike that Scotty Bowman and Paul Coffey had for one another?
    2. Is Eric Lindros a bust?
    I know it sounds like "of course not" but consider this, if you had told anyone when he was drafted that he would score less than 1000 points, would only crack 100 points once in a season, would win the Hart once and never win the Art Ross, would go to one SCF where his team would fail to win a game, would take him several years to get into the Hall of Fame, and would basically be done as an NHL player in 10 years, a lot of people would have considered that a bust seeing all the hype around him and all the Flyers gave up to get him (especially since the Cup teams for Colorado were built on that trade).

    • @philadelphia3790
      @philadelphia3790 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CountElvis Lindros isn’t a bust but him and his parents ugh

    • @CountElvis
      @CountElvis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think that he is and even if he was a lot of it wasn't his fault (I blame the Flyers, the NHL, and his parents), but considering how much hype he had on him and how much the Flyers gave up, I can see how he would be considered one.

    • @zachmontminy
      @zachmontminy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      CountElvis he was the most gifted player we've ever seen. Nobody has ever had that size that skill and that mean streak. Too bad the NHL allowed guys like Scott Stevens to take head shots routinely, or else Lindros would've had the long career to prove more.

    • @kevaninthe4135
      @kevaninthe4135 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't say he was a bust but considering how he was touted you have to say he absolutely underachieved. He was also fragile to. He wasn't what he was suppose to be.

    LeClair definitely deserves a nod for the hockey hall of fame, he was better then Lindros in terms of longevity and staying healthy. Multiple 50 goal scorer, 2 gwg’s in OT vs LA in the SCF with Montreal in 1993 games 3 and 4. In my opinion LeClair is one the best American players to play the game pound for pound

  • @snotbowst

    Paul Coffey was ironically the reason the Red Wings were in the Finals. He was traded just days prior to the start of the 1996-1997 season to Hartford with Keith Primeau and a 1st for Brendan Shanahan. And Shanahan really set the tone for the team going forward. There's no way the subsequent seasons were so successful with out him. Coffey only got 20 games in Hartford before getting sent to Philly and appearing here. Primeau would end up a Flyer too, although later.
    I'm surprised the Coffey against his former team storyline didn't get more traction. I think he just didn't have an impact in the Finals

  • @kevaninthe4135
    @kevaninthe4135 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lindros was fragile and never reached the levels he was touted as going to get to. Not a bust but he was an underachiever. "The Next Gretzky? He wasn't even the first Lindros."

    • @TheHockeyGuy
      @TheHockeyGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No one thought he was the next Gretzky. He was never projected to produce that kind of offense.

    • @kosmicwizard
      @kosmicwizard 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was definately called the next one. People thought he would be unstoppable. Looking back Philly should have let NYR have him. Now no one would trade Forsberg straight across for Lindros, nevermind the whole team AND Forsberg!

    • @joshkusiak7613
      @joshkusiak7613 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i always believe trading for lindros was a big mistake clarke time as a gm is a big reason he isnt in the top ten in my top ten flyers list i am sorry but he fucked up to many times that lead to us not winnning the cup and those damn UNFUNNY 1975 JOKES!

    • @clipwatcher
      @clipwatcher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshkusiak7613 Clarke didn't trade for Lindros. It was Russ Farwell with Jay Snider at the helm at the time. If anything, Clarke did what he could do with the situation by trading to create the Legion of Doom line. Clarke's fault lies with not addressing the thin d-corp to go along with mediocre goaltending. As far as finding talent up front, he was top notch.

    It’s a shame as a Flyers fan and a goalie myself that over the last 20 years my favorite goalies if I can really even say that are Marty Biron, Brian Boucher and maybe Neuiverth. You see what I’m saying it’s been sad , I heard fans of Pittsburgh talk shit on Fluery for years. If the Flyers had him we have one cup minimum prob 2-3. We lost the finals against Chicago, which I was @ Game 3 in Philly just because Michael Leighton was our goalie. If Philly don’t bring Hart up this year to be between the pipes it’s a crime against
    humanity.

  • @ElricCantona82
    @ElricCantona82 ปีที่แล้ว

    this makes me wonder if the Flyers didn't get Lindros and kept all the players and first round pick that they traded to get him.
    you would have a team of
    forsberg
    brind'amour
    ricci
    leclair
    renberg
    simon
    klatt
    hawerchuk
    desjardins
    jonsson (with the 93 first rounder they gave to quebec for lindros)
    duchesne
    svoboda
    yushkevich
    carkner
    niinima
    therien
    hextall
    they'd still be weak on the wings, but they'd have the best center depth int he NHL with forsberg-brind'amour-Ricci as well as a way better defense. i genuinely think with that roster, they might have a better chance. certainly in 95 and 96.

    The Flyers just couldn’t really adjust well to that left wing lock. They would’ve been fine in this series if they could’ve just found a way to crash the blue lines. They had the talent and size to contend with detroit, they dominated the face offs won. Being swept was just sad. I remember thinking how game 3 just broke the will of the Flyers, and Lindros just looked defeated.

  • @stephenhiker9807
    @stephenhiker9807 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    after a discovery of mob connections, I remember a lot of rumors about lindros throwing this series. here is where things get interesting- in small circles close to the organization it's said that ed snider (flyers owner) was so mad about this that he ordered the trainers to supply lindros with inferior equipment, specifically helmets, the following years. this of course resulting in many concussions.
