    Leighton and Boucher vs Niemi and Huet the greatest goaltending matchup in
    Stanley Cup Final history

      Michael I was a devastated 27 year old lol, but I saw it coming. We didn't have a strong 3rd d pairing or goaltending.

    the little team that could. made the playoffs by winning game 82 of the season in the shootout, ran through a devils team with brodeur, kovalchuck, parise with boucher in net. ( i loved that shrug boucher gave to marty in the handshake line.) that 0 - 3 comeback to a team who would win it all the next season. bulldozing over montreal, with that goal by richards when halak came waaaaaay outta net and colided with his own player. then the goal that never went in. pronger and the missing puck, danny briere mr playoffs, ville lienos beard, the emergence of claude giroux, simon gagnes "last goal". as a flyers fan i will never forget this team.

    Past couple of years I been saying, with each passing season, the Flyers prove what they had in the middle 70s was truly something special, and more and more likely won't ever duplicate it. But now, with the New Era of Orange, led by the same Danny Briere......

    I remember the struggles to end that year after Leighton had gotten injured and Boucher just squeaked us in with that shootout against the Rangers. Goaltending injuries were a trend all season that year starting with Emery's hip and Boucher got hurt in that game 5 against Boston I believe

    I’m not sure Philly would have won had this series gone 7. Anything is possible. But Joel Quenneville was an absolute mad man controlling the matchups when he had last change. Game 7 would’ve been at the United Center.

    They we're a strange team that year. Felt the Legion of Doom days was when the window was open. Philadelphia Flyers has been the Pennsylvania hard done by team by not getting past the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers in they're hey day. Add in Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks when they started off their modern day dynasties. After Ron Hextall it's been a Flyer tradition of not having a goalie.

    I loved this team so much. I went to game 5 against the Devils, and my mom was able to get tickets to game 3 in the Final 8 rows behind Niemi on G's gwg. Game 6 was probably the toughest loss as a sports fan I've ever experienced, more so than watching my favorite college football team lose the championship game this year

    All the Flyers need right now is a goalie that can actually stop the puck and they might have a chance to make it out of the first round.

    Hey Shannon i was wondering if you could do a video on Danny Breier's career i was taking a look at his stats and history today and found him very underrated despite me being a boston fan and watching there tragic series against him and the flyers in 2010

    I will forever hate Michael Leighton. AHL goalie or not, no professional should've ever allowed that Kane goal.
    Still, the 2010 loss wasn't as painful for me as losing the 2000 ECFs to New Jersey after being up 3-1. THAT was the year the Flyers would've won the Cup. Or maybe even 03-04 when they lost game 7 to Tampa. They likely would've beaten the Flames.

    • @mygirlpiper
      @mygirlpiper 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Evan TYoung Not only Leighton let in a hideous Stanley Cup winning from a bad angle, if you noticed on that play Kimmo Timmonen our D man was caught up high on that play and Kane did a little shake around Timmo in order to shoot from that unforgiving angle. They both played it bad on that play ! And I agree with you about "2000" AND I'm still recovering from "1980" the non call offsides play that was about 2ft offsides and the Flyers were robbed by the refs of game 6 Stanley Cup finals in Long Island NY " stinking Islanders" Leon Stickle was the linesman and he was quoted after the game as saying " Oh well I guess I blew it" The famous story behind that was ED Schneider after the game rammed down the hallways and kicked in the referees door and you can hear him shouting from the Flyers locker room - That play would've been a bad call in a pre-season let alone a Finals game. I'll never will let that one go because the Flyers that year were the best team with there 35 game unbeaten streak occurred that season.

    The Flyers always run into a dynasty when they make it all the way.. After winning back to back in the mid 70's they lost to Montreal then lost to Gretzsky's Oilers 3 times in 7 years then fast forward to the late 90's they got ran over by the Red Wings who won 2 in a row & 3in4.. Then the 2010 team lost to Chicago who won 3 times in 6 years..

  • @patch8376
    @patch8376 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sudden death was the only way that Flyers team was ever going to be eliminated. Given time in the game and series to come back, they would have. Whether Philly could have won game 7 probably would have depended on whether or not they could have spotted Chicago a few goals first. The Flyers run this playoffs was like the chorus of Chumbawamba "Tubthumping" on repeat.

    I hate this team because they eliminated the Montreal Canadiens in the conference finals. But I look at this team with Carter, Richards, Pronger, Briere, and Gagne. Not to forget about Hartnell, JVR, and Giroux. Although, it pissed me off at the goalies they had.

  • @vinylvishrecords

    If ever a losing player that should have won The Conn Smythe Trophy, Briere should have won it. Toews was invisible in the Final He had 3 assists and a -5. Briere had 3 goals 9 assist and a +5 and still beat Toews in Points thru out the playoffs at 30 and a +9 and had less ice time

      Planet Maple Leafs significantly smaller population, attempts to expand the game in America (some successful like Vegas others not like Arizona), instability of Canadian Dollar in the 90s. The only city that I can really see that makes sense for a new team is Quebec. I don’t think anymore than Quebec

    If Philly won game 6 they would not have won the Stanley Cup vs my Hawks the Hawks were the better team and that team was an all-star caliber team the Hawks built in 2010 and the Hawks may not have had a good goalie but the how young and how tough those Hawks at home they would not have allowed the Flyers to win the Cup in the Mad House On Madison.

    • @mygirlpiper
      @mygirlpiper 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nick Signore As a Flyers fan what disappointed me by the defeat in the finals, was that "2010" Flyers made it to the playoffs on the last day of the season ONLY to qualify for the playoffs " in a shootout" then they underdog their way to conference finals to face Boston and go down 0 to 3 in series and then force a game 7 ! Within game 7 they fell behind 3 to 0. only to rally late in the 3rd To Win 4 to 3 - AMAZING FEAT in the playoff record books BUT BY THEM LOOSING IN THE FINALS TO CHICAGO it just becomes a good memory RATHER THAN if the Flyers had won the Stanley Cup IT WOULD'VE CEMENTED THAT BOSTON COMEBACK AS LEGENDARY - Rather than a Flyer memory. And I have to say if there was a game 7 I give Chicago the edge BUT MY FLYERS WOULD'VE HAD A PUNCHERS CHANCE because Niemi didn't exactly scare no one !

    • @thpisland2423
      @thpisland2423 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That comeback is still pretty damn legendary to me, even as a hawks fan.

    • @mygirlpiper
      @mygirlpiper 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THP Island OK I respect that - I just think if the Flyers topped that playoff run with a Stanley Cup victory ! That would've been a way better captivating storyline." Because everyone knew that this Hawks team was on the rise AND their Cups were coming regardless. That " 2010" Flyers team was a one time shot ALMOST just like what the Caps just did - But the Flyers obviously fell short.

    • @thpisland2423
      @thpisland2423 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know. Whenever I think of amazing comebacks that's the one I always think of, not LA in 2014. I feel like the Flyers run was way more memorable just because of how improbable the entire team was. Even as a Hawks fan I sometimes remember more about that comeback than the Hawks winning when I think of 2010.
      Maybe I'm just spoiled by the 3 cups, but I feel like that playoff run meant more than just not winning the cup, it was a pretty special team. I guess you could say they 'went the distance'.

    • @mygirlpiper
      @mygirlpiper 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THP Island I hope Crawford is able too comeback for your Hawks this year because they are as bad as their record indicated. As for my Flyers We need a center and a winger AND PLEASE some steady goaltending in "18 19" season because are defense is stacked going forward and if things fall in place they can make a legitimate run. " one can only hope." - I meant your Hawks are NOT as bad the record indicated." - I hate leaving a word out ! Didn't feel like going back to correct.

    *Ahhhh 2010* One day (In the early summer) I saw my parents we downstairs watching TV. I was only 10 at the time so naturally I wondered what they were doing. I had no Idea that hockey was even a thing at the time, there wasn’t much coverage and I think this was one of the first years Hockey was televised on the big channels. Long story short, my parents weren’t big hockey fans and the 2010 western conference finals was the first professional hockey I had ever really seen. Many years later and I’m a die hard NHL fan who constantly annoys my family with hockey talk/lobbying to watch hockey games that have no affect on the Blackhawks situation.
    Anyways
    Patrick Kane and that goal.
