There’s one or two slight mistakes in my playing. Please excuse them! I recorded this last night at 2:30AM and had already made a few failed attempts at recording this - so I eventually settled with the take with the least amount of mistakes, haha. This riff is actually very technical. There’s a lot of uncomfortable reaching and stretching with your fingers that you’ve ‘gotta do.
Knew it was from the Nephilim album instantly. Probably the greatest gothic rock album ever written, culminating in the utterly epic Last Exit For The Lost.
I admittedly haven’t listened to that album in full. I’ve only heard this song and the songs “Moonchild” & “Love Under Will”. I need to listen to the full album. I will say - I’m not a big Neph fan. I have a hard time taking Carl’s EXTREMELY deep baritone voice seriously. I don’t know… I suppose something about his singing voice just sounds comical - like he’s almost trying to sing that deeply… Like it’s forced or something. But I will say their actual music is brilliant. Their guitarists (I don’t know their names) were really great at creating that classic “goth” atmospheric and dark sound.
@@MitchQuintana Apparently Carl McCoy's voice is that low because of an accident when he was a car mechanic where he breathed in hot gases and damaged his throat. It resulted in him struggling to sing in anything but a low register. Original guitarist Peter Wright is the one who played the memorable arpeggios, with the other guitarist brought in later in more of a rhythm guitar role.
@@chriswareham That’s interesting! I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info! I definitely plan on listening to more Neph material. At the least to just hear the music (guitars & bass) for inspiration for my own music.
DING DING DING! 🛎 We have a winner! I didn’t think that anyone would guess it so quickly. Did you recognize the riff - or did my clues help you to find the answer?

It probably would have been one of the best goth albums ever, IF they hadn’t then recorded Elizium which is a start-to-finish goth masterpiece.

Best riff
Teach this to their current guitarists.
What do you mean?
@@MitchQuintana I mean that the present-day FOTN guitarists can't play old pieces properly.
@@emilewicz14 Maybe Carl should hire me! 😝
