    The only items that you've mentioned that help with engine cooling while at its hottest are the oil cooler and fan. While you're sitting at a red light while in 100-degree heat, none of the other mods do a single bit of good

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      It is reasonable to reach that conclusion. However, there are few facts that are a bit counterintuitive, or not readily apparent:
      1. Engines run hotter at highway speed than in stop-n-go traffic, or just sitting at a red light. We have many videos documenting that, here is a link to just one of them- th-cam.com/video/qMVwT0nunfU/w-d-xo.html
      2. The cooler the engine is when riding it, the cooler it will be at a red light.
      3. Cooling the oil, while important, has a very small effect on cooling the engine.
      4. The Source of the heat is the engine, the oil just absorbs a little bit of the heat generated.
      5. Cooling the engine down will cool the oil down
      6. These are air cooled engines, except for the Twin Cooled models, and those only use coolant or oil to cool the exhaust valves, no other part of the engine.
      Here is a Link to a report that shows how much each different component cools down the engine. www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-your-twin-cam-engine-part-ii-dk-cl-tc-dn-2.htm
      FOR EXAMPLE: Just a Tank Lift/CDW combo will cool the engine 18-25 F. No oil cooler will cool the engine down that much.
      I believe you will find the link above very interesting.
      Here is a link to a playlist of videos that talk about WHY & HOW to cool down a Twin Cam & M8 Engine.

      @dnice4431 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The fan however will do all that. And also increase the cooling while riding because now you get natural air flow and the fan. So the fan is by far the best option. Especially if you hate the way a tank lift looks.

    • @allenedwards977
      @allenedwards977 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The electric fan oil coolers are wired to a heat sensor and only kicks on when you're in stop and go traffic, not while running highway speeds. From what I understand, the jug fans work the same way. I've done most of the cooling mods , except the fans, and they definitely help cool the motor while on the move. My problem is how long the cooler runs after starting to move again.

    • @robertpedersen5863
      @robertpedersen5863 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can wire the fans to a switch instead, and run them all you want!!!

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why is it a problem how long the oil cooler fan runs after starting to move again? I've had many oil coolers with fans and whether they are running when going down the road at 40 mph or 70 mph has never entered my mind as any king of issue.

    I watched your video about removing the cats on an M8 and not needing a tune. I purchased a 2-1-2 catless header that still uses my factory mufflers. The header came with 12mm and 18mm O2 bungs. The motor indeed runs fine and actually feels like it’s running better. I have a 114 and I actually can run away from my buddies 117 now. Previously I could not run away from him. 4,000 rpm engine braking….. no pops from lean deceleration. I was skeptical and I’m now a solid fan.✌🏼

      @@DKCustomProducts thanks for the reply, also the most important part of my quest was how hot the catalytic converter was. The bike is so much more comfortable to ride now. No change in fuel economy that I can really tell. I purchased a thundermax tuner for a later time where I plan for an air cleaner and cam. Going to Sturgis this year and I don’t want to risk reliability this soon before I plan to ride 1,300 miles one way. 🤓✌🏼

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that cat gets very hot and can be extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately on the Gen I M8's removing it does not necessitate a different tune, nor does it have a perceptible impact on how the bike runs.
      Good choice on holding off on the Thundermax. KP

    Does an exhaust wrap lower engine temps?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No it doesn't but Wrapping your pipes will increase your performance, while reducing radiant heat by up to 50%.
      Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the pipes increases exhaust scavenging, which reduces intake temperatures, resulting in increased horsepower and torque.
      You can see more about the Exhaust Wrap at this link - www.dkcustomproducts.com/titanium-exhaust-wrap-dei-reduced-heat-improved-performance-dk-dei-t35.htm

    Do you make a tank lift kit for a 2024 Breakout

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do make an M8 Softail Tank Lift. You would first need to check and make sure your tank ears are in a position that a tank lift can be installed. You can go to this link and look at the 3rd and 4th picture to see if your tank ears are compatible - www.dkcustomproducts.com/softail-milwaukee-eight-model-tank-lift-kit.htm
      You will also need to check for clearance. Checking for clearance not only allows you to insure fitment, it also allows you to see which size will look best on your bike.
      It is easy to check for clearance, Before ordering:
      1. With bike on kickstand, take the bolt out of the front of your tank.
      2. Loosen (do not remove) the bolt(s) at the rear of your tank.
      3. Turn your handlebars all the way to the left and raise the tank up your desired tank lift size to check for clearance issues.
      4. Turn your handlebars all the way to the right and raise the tank up your desired tank lift size to check for clearance issues.
      Be careful when lifting your tank, you do not want to hit against something (forks, handlebars, trees, blinkers, etc.) when checking for clearance.
      You can see the M8 Softail tank lift at the link above.
