The note about rear tire PSI was an eye-opener, as were the remarks about lug nuts. Having run steel hubs and spokes on the majority of my bikes (the exceptions being a BMW and an FXR) I did not realize that aluminum hubs created an issue like that. I recently installed DK's shocks and lift kit on my Freewheeler, and it's time to check that torque. BTW, I'm going to give a rousing 'Plus 100' on the customer service team. I moved to a Tri Glide in 2015. Started out on a 2014 with linked brakes. Now I'm on a 2023. It's a totally different animal when it comes to using the rear brake to plant the rear.
Congrats on your 2023 Tri Glide. Wishing you Many Miles of Smiles on it! They are still linked brakes, operating under the same principle, but the brakes do have better stopping power than back in 2014, and better feedback. Thanks for commenting! KP
Another added danger on a Trike is the rear width. It takes some getting used to. As you pull up to a gas pump it is easy to forget about the wider back end especially if you have been on 2 wheels for 50+ years. Easy to hit the Yellow Safety Bollards Parking Post Barriers at fuel stations. Same with taking Right hand turns on the roads and into driveways. You are accustomed to cutting closer on two wheels but must remember you now have a wider rear behind you and can easily strike the curb. Same goes for drive up windows at fast food and banks etc. That wide rear end has got to be a focus or it's easy to forget. I'm 67 now and am having to get off my Limited Low 2 wheel and go to the Tri Glide due to 5 right knee surgeries and the need to replace both knees. Finding it is not nearly as fun to ride, and DEFINITELY mork WORK to ride taking curves and not being able to just lean and go but it is more relaxing, because I can't drop it. Easy to keep the rubber on the road and the shiny side up!

I own the 2023 Tri-Glide and use your information when riding with the kids in the twisties. Recently though I felt the Trike tilting , rider behind me said the left tire lifted slightly . I panicked and let off the throttle and pressed the rear brake instantly lifted the rear tire up further. (Lesson learned) . My front brake doesn't engage when the rear brake is in use. I rarely use the front brake. Thanks again for the Tri-Glide riding safety educational information.
All 2023 Tri-Glides have linked brakes. This means when you apply your rear brake, it does apply some front brake. If yours is not doing that, it should be taken to the shop to get that fixed under warranty. Yeah, letting off on the throttle will shift the weight forward some and lift that tire even more, as you experienced. Best to keep minimal throttle on and use more or less rear brake to control your speed, and that will help keep the tire down. The rear tire lifting can be scary! One of the best things you can do to help train yourself what to do in these situations is to find an empty parking lot and practice correcting. Leaning your body hard to the side that is lifting and or steering the opposite direction of the curve, but when you are in a situation like this your mind shuts down so the only way to make it safer is to practice so that it is just instinct on how to correct. Interesting about tyre pressures. I don't have a Harley trike but a professionally made cx500 trike, and it's interesting to know that the tyre pressures are lower. I didn't know that. (I just bought the trike) I'm across the pond in the UK Great channel and subscribed.

You are correct! The comfort triangle is foot placement, butt placement, and hand placement, but the number one comfort mod might actually be suspension. I just got a HD Electra Glide Trike (moved from a Honda PCX-150, which I had an accident on back in Jan 2024). I broke my scapula & 3 ribs, so wife wanted to move off 2 wheels. But now your videos have me concerned. I'm gonna push thru, practice, be as careful as possible etc. But still has me worried.
Riding a Trike is different than riding a 2 wheel bike. There are differences that you have to learn and get use to. Riding any bike can be dangerous if you do not ride in your limits! Here are two videos that you may find helpful - th-cam.com/video/Tg69ZSDUZ_Q/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/QglBaUe7iR0/w-d-xo.html Thanks for commenting! MB
Using downshifting and front and rear brakes when approaching a curve is excellent practice to scrub off speed before the curve. Once in the curve, using trail-braking, as outline in the video linked here - th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html will give you the most control riding thru the curves. Good stuff you guys, as always. I'm really thinking about a trike. Yeah, the knees and hips aren't what they used to be. I sure like my Ultra now that I have an exceptional stage 1 thanks to DK Customs components. What do you guys think about the conversion kits that are available? Particularly those that have independent suspension? Any brands in particular that you are familiar with? Thanks guys, take care.
Glad you are well pleased with all the parts! Thank you for your support and business! MB This is what Kevin has said about conversion kits: There are some really nice looking conversion kits out there. One of my favorites is Clints', done by Cut-n-Shoot Customs in Texas. You can see an interview we did with him at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/acl/interview-with-clint.htm Here are some pro's and con's that come to mind: PROS- If you already have a bike you like, that has a low cost basis, then you could save money over buying a factory Trike Can get a better look, and possibly more storage Better chance at having a "one of a kind" ride With an IRS conversion, it is possible (with the right shocks) to get a plusher ride in daily riding Increased rake for easier steering CONS- In most cases the cost will be similar to a factory Trike, once everything is added up Most places will not work on them In aggressive (spirited) riding in the curves they do not handle as well as the HD Factory Trikes Voids factory & ESP warranty Most of the time it makes the heat challenges HD engines face, worse I am sure there are some pros and cons I have not listed...the above is what came directly to mind when reading your question. One other thing....the above is for Touring comparisons. If one had a Sportster (which does not have the heat challenges of the Twin Cam and M8), and one wanted to do a budget build....that can work out very nicely. KP
I have a 131 and ride it like my funereal is paid for.m (Retired Paratrooper) way past my expereation date. would love to ride a trike on the wall of death. Not sure how to get off the thing in one pice.
I ride a 2012 Tri Glide. I did a lot of riding last year and I had quite a few people pulling out in front of me. It's just a matter of people not paying attention. I scared the crap out of one lady who pulled out in front of me and hit the horn. (I have air horns) LOL

The NexGen 13” shocks and lift kit made a superior improvement in the handling of my new trike. I wrecked my old trike last year due to being a dumbass. I pushed the limits of my abilities and the limits of the trike. Lost the entire 2023 riding season. I have no one but me to blame, and I cost someone else a lot of issues. Retorque the lug nuts every oil change.
I am so sorry that that happened to you! I pray for a better riding season this year! Glad you like the NEXGEN™ shocks and lift kit. Thank you for your business and for commenting! MB
Hey guys, I just picked up my second trike with several 2 wheelers in between. I've been watching your videos for a while now. The trike I have now is a 2010 triglide , bought used. It only had 15k on it when I bought it from the third previous owner. To the point, one rider was over 400s lbs . The next two owners didn't put enough miles on it to even worry about changing the oil. As far as your custom shock and lift set up goes, what are some signs that I may need the shock set up now .
Most do not find the air shocks, your model came equipped with, to be too harsh or notably uncomfortable but they generally need to be adjusted often. What should be a convenient adjustment process becomes the opposite when they need to be adjusted frequently, as they air down. Aside from the drastic improvement in ride quality our shocks provide, many prefer the coil-over spring design which you can set and forget. So, to answer your questions directly... If you find yourself frequently adjusting the air shocks, that would be a sign to upgrade but most importantly if you find the ride quality to be less than adequate, certainly upgrade the shocks ASAP. Here is a video on our NEXGEN™ Shocks that you may find interesting- th-cam.com/video/vbU6fdtxjSI/w-d-xo.html Feel free to contact us for more information on the suspension upgrades we offer; Support@DKCustomProducts.com 662-252-8828 Thanks for commenting! 😎 MB
How about tire pressure on a RG3 ? They have lower profile tire. My wife rides a 22 triglide and I just bought a new 23 RG3 , but im not at home to compare the recommended tire pressure. Let me now what you would set the tire pressure at for the RG3. Thank you.
Same, 20-22 PSI. This will provide a better ride than 26. However, the low profile tires just do not have as much sidewall flex as the full sidewall tires. Thank you for commenting! MB
Thank you. Also I hope to be getting 2 of your remote oil filters and possibly oil coolers to go with them in the future. 1 for my trike and 1 for my wife's. Thanks again.
Awesome! Feel free to reach out for any questions you might have; Support@DKCustomProducts.com 662-252-8828 Thank you for your support, business and comment! MB
alot of harley trike owners don`t know that the tri glides and the freewheeler have perorational braking .when they push on the rear pedal 70% fluid goes to the rear brake and 30% goes to the front brakes
You are right a lot of people do not know that the later models have linked brakes, when using the rear brake pedal, it only applies a fraction of the available front brake, so it is good to use both the front hand brake and the rear foot brake to scrub speed quickly. Here is a video on riding aggressively that you may find interesting- th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html Thank you for your comment! MB
In several other videos we've done on the subject we do address the fact that on later model years they do have linked brakes. Even though the later models have linked brakes, when using the rear brake pedal, it only applies a fraction of the available front brake, so it is good to use both the front hand brake and the rear foot brake to scrub speed quickly. Here is one of them- th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html Thank you for your comment! KP
This front brake, rear brake talk is confusing. It is my understanding that when applying either the front or rear brake that both engage. Perhaps a more thorough explanation would be helpful to a lot of us.
The later models have linked brakes, when using the rear brake pedal you get full rear and it only applies a fraction of the available front brake (2 of the 6 calipers). When using the front (hand) brake it applies full front and some rear. To get full braking power, it is good to use both the front hand brake and the rear foot brake to scrub speed quickly. Here is a video on riding aggressively that you may find interesting/helpful- th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html At some point we may do a video on linked brakes. We do not like them, and do not like Why HD implemented this system, but, it may be a useful video to do. Thank you for your comment! MB
They're as dangerous as you make them. I zip through turns. But i also dont push it past its limits either. Not saying i havent. But once you do lol its not something you want to feel. The min i feel like im out my comfort zone. Ill slow it all the way down. Dont care what others think or say.
I've just got my first Harley and she's a trike. Love it!!! Thanks for the tips! My HD dealer won't install anything but what I buy from them is that normal?
It is NOT normal. I suppose it is their right, but that is very rare. I have heard of it, but never experienced it. We have thousands of Customers that have had Dealerships install parts that they bought from us, both during the factory warranty period and after. You may want to look around for a dealership that will work with you! Thank you for commenting! MB
There are lots of other dealers and great independent shops. They all make profit by what they sell . The local dealer here does install other stuff but will not warranty it . All HD genuine products come with a warranty .
You know you're getting older when the trikes start looking sexy. 😂 J/K. I grew up riding 3 wheelers around the woods behind our house. In retrospect, that taught me a lot in how to navigate obstacles, minus the cagers.

Interesting about tyre pressures.
I don't have a Harley trike but a professionally made cx500 trike, and it's interesting to know that the tyre pressures are lower. I didn't know that.
(I just bought the trike)
I'm across the pond in the UK
Great channel and subscribed.

The number one improvement on a trike, is not just. The comfort triangle is SUSPENSION, SUSPENSION, SUSPENSION!!!!😮
You are correct! The comfort triangle is foot placement, butt placement, and hand placement, but the number one comfort mod might actually be suspension. When you have better suspension you will have better handling and more comfort.

When I had a trike out riding the 3 Sisters when I came to a curve I would downshift 1 gear to slow down.
Using downshifting and front and rear brakes when approaching a curve is excellent practice to scrub off speed before the curve. Once in the curve, using trail-braking, as outline in the video linked here - th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html
will give you the most control riding thru the curves.

MB
This is what Kevin has said about conversion kits:
There are some really nice looking conversion kits out there.
One of my favorites is Clints', done by Cut-n-Shoot Customs in Texas. You can see an interview we did with him at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/acl/interview-with-clint.htm
Here are some pro's and con's that come to mind:
PROS-
If you already have a bike you like, that has a low cost basis, then you could save money over buying a factory Trike
Can get a better look, and possibly more storage
Better chance at having a "one of a kind" ride
With an IRS conversion, it is possible (with the right shocks) to get a plusher ride in daily riding
Increased rake for easier steering
CONS-
In most cases the cost will be similar to a factory Trike, once everything is added up
Most places will not work on them
In aggressive (spirited) riding in the curves they do not handle as well as the HD Factory Trikes
Voids factory & ESP warranty
Most of the time it makes the heat challenges HD engines face, worse
I am sure there are some pros and cons I have not listed...the above is what came directly to mind when reading your question.
One other thing....the above is for Touring comparisons.
If one had a Sportster (which does not have the heat challenges of the Twin Cam and M8), and one wanted to do a budget build....that can work out very nicely.

I have a 131 and ride it like my funereal is paid for.m (Retired Paratrooper) way past my expereation date. would love to ride a trike on the wall of death. Not sure how to get off the thing in one pice.
Hey, if you figure out how to do it, send us a video we would love to see it!!! 😎 MB
I ride a 2012 Tri Glide. I did a lot of riding last year and I had quite a few people pulling out in front of me. It's just a matter of people not paying attention. I scared the crap out of one lady who pulled out in front of me and hit the horn. (I have air horns) LOL
A horn can be very handy. It is sad how many cagers just do not pay attention.

If you have the stock suspension you need to update it. From HD it is😢
Most do not find the air shocks, your model came equipped with, to be too harsh or notably uncomfortable but they generally need to be adjusted often.

Guess I need T buy a torque wrench. Checking lug nuts never aware. Thanks
Going to be checking my rear lugs as well .
Small things can cause huge problems! I would definitely get a torque wrench.

Thank you. Also I hope to be getting 2 of your remote oil filters and possibly oil coolers to go with them in the future. 1 for my trike and 1 for my wife's. Thanks again.

Well done video

alot of harley trike owners don`t know that the tri glides and the freewheeler have perorational braking .when they push on the rear pedal 70% fluid goes to the rear brake and 30% goes to the front brakes
You are right a lot of people do not know that the later models have linked brakes, when using the rear brake pedal, it only applies a fraction of the available front brake, so it is good to use both the front hand brake and the rear foot brake to scrub speed quickly.

I remember my first time on my trike putting my feet down and try to lean
It is an adjustment! Thanks for commenting! MB
When talking about braking and using front and rear braking, that doesn’t take into account for the dynamic braking on newer models.
Here is one of them- th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html

Why would you want to ride aggressively on a trike?
Cause it's Fun!
This is a video of Mary and I having a blast in some twisties!

Here is a video on riding aggressively that you may find interesting/helpful- th-cam.com/video/-ZkmHGrSetc/w-d-xo.html
At some point we may do a video on linked brakes.
Riding within yours and your Trikes limits is the best practice! Thanks for sharing and for commenting! 😎 MB
Riding a trike is not dangerous…..it’s gay😂
I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even if it is nonsensical! MB
