We had to replace our Starter this week. Honda Accord V6 2002. Two months ago someone stole the catalytic converter. Luckily we had comprehensive cover on it. I had a copayment of $50. The insurance paid $4700 to replace it.
4700? Oh my! Im fairly sure my starter is out on my 2001 accord 2.3L. My catalytic converter was also stolen off my car years ago but we have a straight pipe on it 😆
My 90 accord, that fuel pump relay fixed my problem, wouldn't start randomly after warm. Right now searching out no crank issue on 98 accord, already replaced the starter. Always something if you don't drive em much...
I had a no start / stalling problem, intermittent. It turned out to be a bad evap canister, the electric components were malfunctioning. There was no talk of this problem on TH-cam. Took me forever to figure it out, found it accidentally looking at wires with the accessories turned on. 2000 Accord.
@@bundysgarage it wasn't the canister or box itself, it was the solenoid on it. Replaced it with a parts car I had, it's been about 6 years, no problems.
I turned the key on accessories, the speedo and gauges would jump all around erratically. There was no buzz noise that sounds like a fuel pump. With the accessories on, I found it by wiggling the box, and it would trigger the buzz noise, which I believe is the solenoid on the evap box. I always thought that buzz was the fuel pump, but it's the evap system. I think the fuel pump is much quieter than the evap system, when you turn the key. I live in the Northeast and corrosion is a problem. The electric components are exposed under the car. Weird set up if you ask me.
99 accord ex 3.0 should I hear or feel the main relay clicking… I feel like it should, I can hear fuel pump prime. But no clicks in relay. I bought a relay waiting for it to arrive just curious
Goood job Bundy, I was going to rip you a new one when you said there was no fuel..because I saw the fuel gauage reading at least a quarter tank,,, But, you redeemed yourself on your explanation....Good job.
BundysGarage you should have check for the most basic causes first such as a simple fuse or if the gas tank was empty. Fuel pump relay goes out all the time on these vehicles. Specially when its hot, the circuit board expands and contracts according to temperature changes. Its basically a switch that energizes the fuel pump on hondas. If there is no spark, then it could be a bad ignitor or ignition coil. But some people just replace the whole distributor, instead. It could be cheaper to get an aftermarket, but chances are, it will stop working because aftermarket electronic parts are not so much reliable as OEM parts. Another reason could be too much resistance coming from the ignition wires or even the spark plugs. For that you need a multimeter to check the resistance and compare that to specs. Spark plugs could also be filled with carbon deposits or oil, not allowing a clean connection and spark. If there is spark at the coil, but not at the wires, most likey cause its cap and rotor, being shorted out. If there is spark on the wires, and the car just cranks but does not fire, fuel pressure should be checked with a fuel gauge. As a general rule, when turning key to acc, without starting should be around 30 to 40psi. But, to get an accurate reading, it should be compared to the manufacturer specs. If you dont have a fuel gauge, unbolt the fuel rail, then have someone turn key to the "on" position without cranking, a significant squirt of gas should come out of the port. Have a rag placed underneath. If there is a squirt, you can reasonably assume, it has proper fuel pressure. If you have spark, proper fuel pressure, then check for pulsations at the fuel injectors. With a test light connected to ground, then stick it to one ofthe terminals in injector. Have someone crank car, light should blink rapidly, telling you have pulsations. If still, no start, but cranks, then it must be no compression or timing is incorrect. Compression should be checked with a gauge, but compression not necessarily prevents the car from starting.. .
Where the air filter is at. Crack that open and spray a little starting fluid in there (2 second burst of spray) then try starting the car. That will tell you if you have a fuel delivery problem.
I just had this same problem with my 2008 Honda Accord. It would start, but then immediately die. After checking relays, cleaning intake etc. everything was good, but still same result. Start, then immediately die. Scouring more videos on youtube brought me to one thread that lit a spark in my head. The battery on my key fob had quit earlier and so I decided to pull it out. After getting a new BATTERY FOR THE KEY FOB, it started and runs great like before. That's all it was, the lack of battery in the key fob sets off the security system to shut down. IHTH someone!!
So it wasn't the fuel pump relay right? Did you put the old one back in? As for the gas gauge, how much fuel did you put in and was it confirmed the gauge isnt working? I wonder if the gas was bad or had some moisture and the new gas helped it?
If your car won't crank, tap the starter with a hammer. It might just work. Try that before you take anything apart. It worked for me yesterday I swear. And then replace your starter soon.

Have you tested the ground for the fuel pump. If that’s good I would look towards the main fuel relay. One thing to consider, even if the pump turns while it is out of the car and you are testing it on the bench. It might not have enough energy to send the fuel at the correct pressure. It could be weak and dying, like a failing heart.

My 1995 Honda civic start and shut off immediately. I have changed the ECU, main relay, ignition switch, and distributor. I do get spark and fuel. It start then dies immediately. Don't know what else to do. Fuses are good. Any help?
You need fuel, compression, and spark for a engine to run. Have you done a compression check. You positive you have both spark and fuel? You need to put a fuel gauge on to make sure you are getting the correct fuel pressure. How did you test for spark?
Narrowing my problem, I found out that my injector are not getting pulse. If I ground the wires, the nozzles open and spill fuel. I manually spill fuel in the cylinders like that to start the engine. Unfortunately I can't keep it grounded because if the ECU or something, it just shut off when I do. What do I do to get ground for the fuel injectors?

lol, iv replaced the main fuel relay, the ignition switch, the CPS, checked all the fuses put in 5 gallons of fuel did the timing on it a few times triple checked the timing im good there, made sure the alternator is good, it gets fuel it has compression it has to be getting spark cuz of the new cps the dang thing ran 2 days ago...now on start up it'll run for 2 sec. and then imminently after it dies...idk if it worth to throw more parts at it, might just have to pony up the cash to make it someone else's problem. this is kinda my last resort b4 that.

Did if ever start acting up again? My wife has this car and the starting problem boggles my mind. It's so random and intermittent which makes it hard to figure out. It will start fine then after driving not start but let it sit for a day and starts fine again. Changed relay seemed to fix it but again started acting weird. Spark was there and so was fuel.....it seems to act up after heavy rains in Florida but spark is there so not sure what it's getting into. Just curious if it acted up again and if the problem was truly solved. So many times I think the car is fixed but 6 months down the road it starts acting up again....works for weeks then one day doesnt work. Let it sit for 6 hours and works fine.
@@bundysgarage hard to say because I believe they backed off the odometer she has had it for 2 year....says like 120k but I think its 220k long story......just wondering if his ever acted up again or if it really was lack of fuel.
Everytime I checked the pump was working......it really seems to be a rain issue but yet she has spark.......its been the hardest thing to trouble shoot since it works out of nowhere again and every attempt to solve it seems to work but not really. It's the intermittent failure that makes it so hard to solve.

mine is doing the same, problem is i did everything u did and yes it fired eventually, but if it sits over night it wont crank again, but once it does crank it runs like a top.
I had a mystery no start / stalling problem, it was intermittent. It was the electrics on the evap canister. Under the driver's side back seat area, black box with some gizmos on it.
2000 accord. Something to check if you can't figure it out.
i have a 2002 honda accord ex 2.3l 5speed cars been up to date with everything only 115000 miles anyway car has been sitting due to me driving company vehicle i put in a double din radio which ive done 100000000 times various cars but it cranked twice for me today everything worked fine no wires were cut or damaged now car wont start lights come on dash headlights are bright had alittle corrosion on battery didnt quite clean it all off i should have but it still wont crank would that be ignition problems or starter problem again no noise when trying to turn on but lights come on great
Carlos Cruz. hey buddy I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they have a security feature and it says in the Haynes book you're supposed to get some type of code before you remove the radio and you put that code in to unlock the security feature
It also has to have correct timing. A timing belt that has jumped teeth can cause a no start or start/stall.
Great point!
Where is the fuel relay at
Narrowing my problem, I found out that my injector are not getting pulse. If I ground the wires, the nozzles open and spill fuel. I manually spill fuel in the cylinders like that to start the engine. Unfortunately I can't keep it grounded because if the ECU or something, it just shut off when I do. What do I do to get ground for the fuel injectors?
Heck I've got to change my multiplexer and the relay is hard for me to get out without feeling like it's going to break, and I have the fuse panel on my lap, would be impossible for me to pull it with it under the dash
Need help with a problem , my 4 cyl. Honda Accord is not starting due to a security issue , but if I take out the starter and then put it back together it
will start and drive but only for like 4 times then it comes back with the key light flashing . What's wrong ?
Security, its not sensing the key if the light stays flashing
never drive the car by the gauge, always go by odometer, between 180 to 220 mile fill up
I'm having the same problem with my 97 Accord right now I took the cap off the end of the few real and turned it over or turn the key on and it's getting plenty of fuel he also has good compression I haven't checked the spark yet what do you think
Relay
Mine has a new battery but makes no sound when i turn the key to start it 😭
I have a 2003 honda accord standard, same thing cranks and almost starts. what can I check? it has spark, fuel pump works alternator work, cam shaft new. please help?
Is the check engine light on? If so, what is the code?
+Junior Alvarez youngotta check and make sure you have Spark, fuel, and compression.
yes it does, blinks 5 times.
by compression you mean ac compression or which one?
+Junior Alvarez no cylinder compression. What is the car doing exactly? When does it happen? Hot or Cold? Does it happen driving? Or just won't start?
Do you spray it in the air filter snorkel with the car on or off?
Sprayed it in the snorkel while trying to start the car
I have 1990 Honda accord my battery is dead my freind I bought it from said the fuel pump needs to b replaced but don't kno wats wrong with the card but i would like to find out??
we did all of this and it still wont start. maybe if i open the throttle and spray starter fluid in there. having the same issue for 2 days now
If you spray starting fluid in and it runs then you know it’s a fuel deleivery issue. Bad fuel pump, bad FP fuse, bad FP relay, a wiring issue.
i have a 99 acura cl, it had a bad head gasket, i change the head gasket now the car crank up but not firing to start. it getting fuel but spark is not consistent. and i change the crank sensor do you have any advice
Check compression
I have the same make and model, my issue is that the car starts and runs for a second or two but then dies.
I can't figure it out and I'm losing my mind over here, any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
Have to checked the main fuel relay?
lol, iv replaced the main fuel relay, the ignition switch, the CPS, checked all the fuses put in 5 gallons of fuel did the timing on it a few times triple checked the timing im good there, made sure the alternator is good, it gets fuel it has compression it has to be getting spark cuz of the new cps the dang thing ran 2 days ago...now on start up it'll run for 2 sec. and then imminently after it dies...idk if it worth to throw more parts at it, might just have to pony up the cash to make it someone else's problem.
this is kinda my last resort b4 that.
You need to go back t the basics. A gas engine needs fuel, compression, and spark. Check all 3 items. Start with fuel and spark and then compression.
i think i got it now, the rear balance shaft is wrong its a 3 to 1 turn ratio so even if the timing lines match up the timing can still be wrong....i never put thru the bolt into the Service Hole to lock it in place.
thanks for replying so fast man, i'll come back with an update after i get a little bit dirty again.
:To be continued
A balance belt off a little will not make the car not run. It's something else
Help !! My 2002 Accord EX 6cyl is No Crank..No Start....ughhhh have no idea what to do. It did this while my wife was driving the other day...finally it started....then she drove it home and shut it off.
I went outside and it started twice, then it wouldn't start, and it's been sitting for 2 days now without starting at all.
Does this work with honda accord 1996?
Affirmative
I got my 2000 accord running today green key off I did battery's fuse and took my sir filter off modified tube started right up
Green key off what you mean
What state are you allow to ride without a seatbelt on?
Hi, I have a Honda Accord 04. I have the same problem. Battery, igniter and alternator are all good according to the diagnosis by Pep boys and Autozones. Cranks but won't start. What can I do next?
Are you sure your timing belt didn’t break?
I opened my gas tank for a few seconds then closed it and it started fine
hi i have the same problem in honda civic 94 some time morning didnt work if work the engine slow down and up like breathing after 1 minute its ok some time wen i drive the car and stop try to turn again wil not start have to wait like 5 minutes or more
Did if ever start acting up again?
You could have a failing fuel pump. Or the ignition switch has known to be bad on these. How many miles?
@@bundysgarage hard to say because I believe they backed off the odometer she has had it for 2 year....says like 120k but I think its 220k long story......just wondering if his ever acted up again or if it really was lack of fuel.
Everytime I checked the pump was working......it really seems to be a rain issue but yet she has spark.......its been the hardest thing to trouble shoot since it works out of nowhere again and every attempt to solve it seems to work but not really. It's the intermittent failure that makes it so hard to solve.
Viral hare should wear his seatbelt.
I have an accord 2001 and it didn't start, called tow truck, the guy hit a plate or something under the car and then the car started. He said the tank might be filled with junk. What could be the issue? I have a new battery and starter only 1 year old.
+anj patnaik sounds like he hit the fuel pump and got it running one more time
so could it be a dirty tank or fuel pump needs to be replaced? Thanks for the quick reply.
+anj patnaik no worries, I try to answer back all comments. No I think you have a bad fuel pump. Replace the pump and the fuel filter.
I am not handy, how much should be the labor+parts? And do you recommend any repair shop to do the work? I have a Goodyear nearby and also PepBoys. The dealer might overcharge
+anj patnaik call both of them and ask to get a quote for a fuel pump. And then call 2 other local independent shops and ask them. Pep Boys and Goodyear are chain stores, which typically charge more.
Does the 1999 Honda accord have a fuel filter?
My car is losing power each time I step on gas and the rev keep going up and down....am going out my mind rite now
The fuel filter is in the tank. Have you checked your crank sensor?
Diesel is; Fuel, compression and oil pressure. Not all are the same.
Car wont crank. Use too. Changed main relay dist.
help me out plz mine start but I have to floor it to get it to throttle.. so what could be my problem
Clean ur throttle body
Watch a TH-cam video on how to do it
Let me know the outcome
Hey man i have a 99 accord died out i put gas still wouldnt turn on tried starting fluid in the air intake it turned right on tried turning it on the next day did the same thing wouldnt start till i put starting fluid went to put more gas nd noticed if i speed up it would tug would it be the main fuel relay still
It could be the main fuel relay or the fuel pump is going/gone out. I would start with the main fuel relay.
Okay ill do that thanks
So i took it to autozone they said its the crank position sensor would that cause the tug n no start
Yes
BundysGarage okay then ill switch that out
I have a 2001 Honda Accord. It quit on me while on the interstate. Just cut off! No sputtering or anything. Change the relay and crank no start. My fuel gauge is also at a 1/4 tank... I bet I’m just out of fuel
You could have a broken timing belt.
My car won’t start nun of the lights even come on no click no nothing what you think it could be ?
Where exactly did you spray that start up fluid? Thanks.
When it rains my 2002 Honda accord ex won't start it turns but won't start.
What kind of engine do you have?
@@bundysgarage 4 celninder
Where is the relay ony 98 Honda?
Should be right above your brake pedal, about the size of a pack of cigarettes and black
6th generation accord is actually 1998-2002. also an easy fix is just remelt all the solder joints, bam fixed
Please what can make my Honda Accord 1999 model car start normal when cold but if hot, i have to start it 4 to 5 time before it respond, i have change the complete injector, fuel pump, fuel filter and and also new battery, but the same problem still occur, i need your help on how to solve the problem some time i have to start it from engine starter before it works
Is it a V6 or a 4 cylinder?
@@bundysgarage 4 cylinder
@@bundysgarage 4 cylinder but it always start once if cold but when hot is take 4 to 5 time to start
Have you checked your distributor? When it’s not starting pull a wire off a spark plug and see if you have spark.
@@bundysgarage have done that, the plugs spark, the whole injector as been change, fuel pump and fuel filter
Hey , my Honda Accord 98 isn't sparking. Bought a new battery, replaced the negative cable (due to corrosion) and put fuel in my tank. What can it be? I'm so lost. I don't want to take it to a mechanic!
+Rikki Garcia how do you know you have no spark? The fuel pump relay goes out on those a lot. Check out this vid from Eric the Car Guy:
th-cam.com/video/viIZ8k60awY/w-d-xo.html
if you tested to make sure it's not getting spark then it's probably a distributor same thing happened to mine. the ignition coil and ignition module are inside the distributor. if you have a multimeter it's fairly easy to test just Google how to test ignition coil with multimeter and your make model and year
That truck almost rear-ended you.
I replaced the fuel pump ,main relay , fuel pump regulator cranks but won’t start
replacing the relay without even checking to make sure its broken? not a good idea. fuel starvation is the number one culprit on situations like this.
Do you know anyone near or in the Houston area that can diagnose my 96 Honda 2.2 ? It has the same issue...will intermittently run and then cut off...has a full tank, new distributor, New relay and new ignition...no check engine light either, do you think it could be an intermittent fuel pump issue? Also when it does run and cut off on me, it usually seems to happen after driving it for about 15 min at a higher speed around 60 mph...after that it will not turn on again until the next day
Hey Mr Bundy. How hard do you have to push up the fuel relay so I don't break it? I know it's a EZ FIX BUT can't get the FUEL relay out with out breaking it
+Jason Dobbs well there is a clip that hold it in. You have to press the clip to get it out. Sometimes it's pretty hard.
To much b's get to the fix
