I also watch the hoofgp trim cows hooves for some reason and i have no reason to watch that but i just like the guy doing it, just like here. LOL its funny why or how we find channels and sub to because of some weird reason.

  • @SpeedNessRx7
    @SpeedNessRx7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    FYI for future reference , you want to avoid using a drill to twist bundles of M22759 (Tefzel) wire together like you did. The individual wire strands themselves are already twisted inside the insulation so when you twist them with the drill you are introducing more stress into the individual strands of each conductor (wire).

  • @c4caruso
    @c4caruso 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Word of advice with wiring by going 12-16g wiring you are creating a bottle neck. The general rule of thumb with wiring is you can step up in gauge but not down. By stepping down it creates a potential for fire.

    • @Robertwells596
      @Robertwells596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was my thoughts. I've had to do it in a bind and it melted the wires down and I only dropped down one gauge.

    • @nickframe6743
      @nickframe6743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed. I’ve always used relays in situations like this to protect the thinner gauge feeder wires.

    • @haydenryan4225
      @haydenryan4225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If he’s worried about voltage drop over a distance, and the feeder wire gauge can actually handle the current that’s going to be drawn through them it might be okay.
      But it’s definitely not the way I’d do it, relay closer to the pumps/fans with a power supply off the bulk head would be way better. Or different bulk head connectors that can take larger wire (I’m a qualified auto elec)

    • @imnota
      @imnota 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haydenryan4225
      Tell me if this is correct :
      The way I would've done is simply split that 12 gauge wire in two of those smaller 16 gauges feeder wires instead of just one like Taylor did, because in my mind that'd be best because you keep as much conductor if not more.
      You're splitting the load on the connector as well, because from experience my worry would be more on the connector than on the wire, I've temporarily ran undersized wire without too many issues despite it not being recommended, and the wires were never an issue (since I wasn't going too much over their ratings) but the connectors would always heat up or even melt.
      Edit : This wouldn't really work, just realized this connector goes to the PDM and therefore splitting the wire in two would mean using two outputs... Not ideal. But this raises even more questions, really if the connector of the PDM isn't rated for wires bigger than 16 gauges is it rated for the type of current he's gonna ask from it ? You would think if it can only take 16 gauge it can only take the current that goes with that size wire, wanting to use a bigger wire probably also means you're wanting to use more current than it was designed for...

    • @haydenryan4225
      @haydenryan4225 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imnota yes that would definitely work, still not ideal.
      I also thought it was for the bulkhead connector!
      I’m guessing he’s worried about the voltage drop, just because a wire can cope with (let’s say 20Amps) without melting.
      When you need that wire to do a run longer than 2 meters or so you need to step it up in order to minimise voltage drop.
      I use this chart to work out what wire should be used www.rpc.com.au/pdf/Wire_Chart.pdf

    If you havn't already done so, put the rear wire bulkhead, just under the passenger side roll cage bar that goes through the firewall. This would allow you to run your wires on the rollcage, which would keep it looking super clean, but also easy to service (using removeable zipties). I would suggest using a flat copper bar (bus bar) with some shrink tube on it between the ground bulkhead and the emergency breaker.

    I know people touched on it already, but the wire size is based on amperage and the more current the circuit draws the more heat it will create. The insulation type and wire size determine how the wire will dissipate heat. In A/C wiring all the termination and insulation ratings (temp) have to be the same too.

      For how short a drift run is they will probably be fine. Although I'm not sure how accurate it is to say short wires will heat up less than longer wires. Sure a shorter wire has less resistance but it also has less surface area to dissipate heat...

    • @Blain5700
      @Blain5700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NNFaNRacing Yeah, it's a short run but everything is at max power during that run. Also, not sure on his setup but the fuses could be rated for the 12ga wire, which would make the 16 ga the weak link and that could fail. If he's not using the capacity of the 12ga, then no big deal, it's just a bit of a waste having the bigger wire. But again, no big deal.

    I need to build my PDM chassis harness and I just keep putting if off because it seems so daunting. Looks like I just needs to sit down and get it all planned out. Props to a clean looking harness in the drift vette. Can't wait to see the hotside coating also, how's that coming?

    Have you thought about fire suppression? Eg: Colette Davis fire etc.
