Just want to say this is one of the best reviews of the rav4 I have seen. What makes it more special is the fact that you showed us a trim level without extra packages (base). There are too many videos out here showing cars but almost all of them have additional features. Seeing a video like this allows us to way whether or not we want those features. My only recommendation is to show the window sticker either at the beginning or end of the video.
Excellent review covering all technical details from engine, under the body to the exterior. It is like checking the car by a mechanic before buying. It is a complete lesson plan.

I just bought a brand new 2023 RAV4 XLE by sheer fluke. I lucked in on the canceled order and only had to wait about 3 months for mine. Having been in the automotive industry on my life I knew Toyota was the go-to company but I had never owned one before. Now that I have this RAV4, I am astounded by the sheer superiority of this machine. It is truly truly amazing what Toyota is doing these days. I'm still learning it, and every day I drive it I love it more and more, which I never ever have said about any car I have ever owned!
I just my RAV4 3 weeks ago, and I’m loving it. I once had a car with fog lights which I hardly used. I also got the car in Ice Cap-never had a white car. My RAV is a hybrid, and I got 43 mph on a trip into New York City. There’s nothing not to like!
I got the XLE and the headlights are so good that fog lights aren't needed. Ive already tested in heavy fog. I will say that the new vertical fog lights look really good on this vehicle. I love my Yota!
We bought a new rav le in 2013, then with our work schedules we bought a 2nd new one in 2018. We have never liked a vehicle enough to go back and buy another one. We love how they handle the snow here in CNY! Now that I’ve retired we’re trading them in, and have ordered a 2023 rav xle. Can’t wait!
Excellent review and one of the most detailed I’ve seen . Just bought an XLE hybrid premium after waiting to replace used car I bought after my crv was totaled. Took a year and just by luck I was calling a dealer I dealt with before when he said you wont believe it but we just exchanged a Highlander for this Rav4. After being on list after list and not finding any, I went right over and bought it. You are correct as there are many minor but nice upgrades on the car. One I noticed is that the new screen and technology allows remote start capability with both phone and key on any trim level which was only available with the audio plus package. The trial lasts a year and the phone remote start drops off after that. . The only option that I think should be included is the tech package which has front and rear parking sensors as well as other features . That feature is handy but not necessary. Haven’t figured out all the new tech stuff which was not included with my wife’s 21 same car. I’m not a huge tech guy but , this car has lots in it . I look forward to reading your reviews so ,thanks and keep up the nice work .

Bought my new 2022 in October (was wanting the 23 but they were not sure when the 23 was going to be coming in and I wanted to make sure I got the low interest rate before it ended and went up) I traded in my 2018 Camry for the RAV4 and so glad I did! Love the RAV4!
Nice video. I was all set to get the LE and found out they don't come with rails but the XLE does. Since I like to ski that was a must. I found an XLE without any packages at a rural dealer for 1k under MSRP. I'm pumped. Haven't owned a Toyota since my 85 Supra. 😀
Thanks Scott for mentioning that in Jan of 23, you actually CAN get a discount off msrp! I just wish Toyota would stop adding all the crap you really don't need, like that Toyoguard waxjob and surface films and door edge protection and this and that and the other to pump the base price up. They've been doing that for many, many years.
@@ofcbob6391 I looked all around the NW. The dealer add ons ran from $300 to $2000, usually for the ceramic coating. Some of them were not even up front about it. The price we pay for the sellers market.
Any body else found their self nodding off cuz of his calm smooth voice 😊. This is the BEST video review I've seen on the Rav. I opted for the Mazda CX-5 instead of the Rav cuz I didn't like the sharp corners of the headlights and tail lights at least they worked on the headlights and didn't care for all the silver trim on the interior. Had I seen this video before hand I probably would have bought the Rav instead. The guy's at our Toyota dealership give me crap every day lol. Thank you ❤️

Is there an option to have your speed show up as digital on the center display...rather than look at the analog display which skimps on the numbers so you're guessing on your actual speed? Most cars give you the option....
Great job reviewing the vehicle. But I'm so sorry that you couldn't have the satisfaction of peeling the protective cover off of the door sill protector... Loved it - what a hoot!!! :):)
The regular shifter is one of the things that convinced me to order a rav4. There is a ridiculous lag in cars with the turn button shifters when shifting from drive to reverse, then back
I have to echo some other comments here. This was one of the best car reviews I ever watched. I'm looking at the 2024 RAV4 and I think your video will move me up to the XLE. I just love your thorough, thoughtful videos and your calm voice. :) I was waiting on an XLE hybrid in Ice Cap just like this one, hoping to get the weather package but not the convenience package, when an SE hybrid in Wind Chill Pearl with both packages came available sooner, and I fished deep into my pockets (haha) and bought that. I am in looove! You're right, the black wheels and the piano black trim are flashy. At first I didn't want that, but it has grown on me. And I've never had a power liftgate before but it is nice! Around here it seems that most of the allocations for the hybrids at least are the higher trim levels and are coming very loaded with everything. I bought those door sill protectors and installed them myself - they are a really nice touch. Love my '23 hybrid SE!

Dual exhaust for about a foot out of the 1 muffler so basically cosmetic. It is nice the door's button panel for windows and locking now has LEDs so you can find the switches at night.
We use Rav4"s at my job to make deliveries to hospitals in NJ. I was using a 2018 and back in July I was giving a 2022. All the Rav4's we use are the AWD LE versions. The one thing I liked about the 2018 was it had auto headlights , so I never had to manually turn on the headlights. When Toyota redesigned the Rav4 in 2019 they no longer gave you auto headlights in the LE version , I miss them. I also liked my 2018 Rav4's wheels better , the rims were actually in the shape of the hubcap , almost looked like alloy wheels. Now Toyota went to a generic looking wheel with ugly hubcaps. I like the headlights better in the 2023 then my 2022 , but I'm surprise Toyota didn't revise the tail lights for 2023. Toyota usually tweaks the new models by the 4th year , they did that on the previous generation. I will say though I like the instrument panel better on my 2022 then the revised one on the 2023. It looks like a protractor in the center on the 2023.
Brain very good job with the review of the RAV4. Very detailed and informative as usual. I do wish Toyota added the fog lights back to the XLE grade as standard. That being said atleast they could be added afterwards if someone really wanted them. Likely they excluded them to keep the cost down. The Rav is a very nice vehicle. Still loving the Camry a little better though.
I also recommend seeking out the actual company’s website which often has the same price, just as fast shipping, better customer service if there are issues, and they make more $ because Amazon takes such a big cut. I believe it beating Amazon and keeping them in their place. 🙏🏼

Yes, HVAC needs to be separate from the info screen as you said. This is the main reason why I chose Toyota over VW. I drove a VW for 8 years and they lost me when it was time to look for a new car.
Excellent review of the RAV4. I’m getting the XLE Premium version with the leather seats. I’m trading in a 2016 model and upgrading to the XLE so it will be a big change in a lot of ways and I’m looking forward to it. Thx 😊
I'm glad I saw your post here, I'm torn between this and the new-ish Rogue, which does not automatically cut the engine at stop signs/red lights. I think it is the ONLY SUV I have run across nowadays that doesn't force you to hit the "circle-A" button! I'm curious, are you letting your new Rav4 die at every stop...or are you now in the habit of hitting that "circle-A" button every time you crank it up?

I was considering this and the GMC Terrain SLT, but I have ALWAYS wanted to own a Toyota ad I know they are the most reliable and dependable cars out there! I think I may get this car! The MPG is great too! It looks very nice, clean, and I Love the features and that display!

EXCELLENT video! I got my 2023 RAV4 Hybrid AWD in EU ‘Executive’ trim that resembles the USA Limited model just over a month now. It is my second one of the current model. You forgot just one tiny improvement on the 2023 models: all four window knobs in the drivers door now are illuminated, small detail, big improvement. The new infotainment system on the Eropean models is slightly bigger but a really big bummer is the lack of AM, yes,Toyota discontinued AM. A huge disappointment, over here in The Netherlands there still are many private broadcasters on AM. So Toyota really f***ed things up! If I had known this it would mean a deal breaker and I would not have traded my previous RAV4 in for this one. Even with all the bells and whisles, wireless this and that on the new system. Having said this, this doesn’t mean I’m not happy with the car, but Toyota should have mentioned the lack of AM beforehand. The brochure states that there is a radio with DAB capability. FM is still there though. I never listen to FM or DAB, nothing on it that’s interesting for me. Greetings from Hekelingen, Holland. Bye, Willem.
Great Video - Love my 2023 Ruby Flair Pearl RAV4 XLE with Convenience and Weather Package. We have had many Camry’s through the years (since the first Camry Hatchback in the late 80’s) but both of us being 75 we need a car we can fall out of and not have to struggle to get out of 🤣😂 The only two things I don’t like is how bright the media screen is - wish we could make background different colors and also don’t like the Auto Start and Stop Button that you have to turn off every time you start the car. To me it is scary when at a stop light and the engine shuts off and all goes quiet 😱 I just looked up where you are located - so funny - we bought our first (of many, many) Toyotas from Johnstons Toyota back in the 70’s when John Jardine was a mechanic/then sales. We lived in Middletown many, many years and moved to MN in 2003.
Have a 22 black trd off road Rav 4 with a factory lift, came with 225-60-18 falken at, I upgraded to 255-65-17 Falken AT 3 Wild peak on Method 703 mat black wheels.

Hi Brian, might you be planning on doing a video on the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition sometime in the future? I heard that it’s a bit of a disappointment in the US (vs. in Canada) being that 1) no moon roof option, 2) no heated seats option, 3) no heated steering wheel option, 4) no leather wrapped steering wheel option, 5) no power lift gate option, 6) Falken Wild Peak AT tires are “special” OEM tires and not “3 peak snow rated”, 7) no front view camera for “soft off-roading”, 8) no skid plates and 9) same 8.1 inches of ground clearances as the other models.
Good job on the video. You know how to make a person want a Rav4. 👍And I do like the shifter and no turbo or cvt. No wonder they sell like hot cakes. Go Toyota.
Oh, and regarding the fog lights... I was really bummed that I didn't get fog lights at first, because I like them for dark country roads where animals might jump out (don't get a lot of fog where I am). And yeah they do look nice, although I'm not one to drive with them on unless I need them. But, this is my first car with LED headlights and they are so much brighter than my old Matrix, and they have a good side fill too. So I am OK with missing out on the fog lights. Certainly if they said I could have fog lights but would have to give back the heated seats I'd say NO WAY! :)

Just a question tho and I’m not even sure if you’re gonna be able to speak on it but is the hybrid system cable gate corrosion issue being addressed? Great car! 2022 is still an amazing car. From my understanding for vehicles effected there was a modification to the cover for that cable. I do not know which vehicles were effected or how they determine that. You could always visit your local service center to inquire. Thanks for watching! God bless

Congrats! Thanks for watching. In my region we have two packages; the floor liner package and the all weather package (includes the cargo protector and back seat protector). All the rav4s vary. But check your window sticker to make sure you have the equipment you are supposed to have.

Is there an option to have your speed show up as digital on the center display...rather than look at the analog display which skimps on the numbers so you're guessing on your actual speed? Most cars give you the option....

The regular shifter is one of the things that convinced me to order a rav4. There is a ridiculous lag in cars with the turn button shifters when shifting from drive to reverse, then back

The 2012 rav 4 hit hard, 2015 has a nice ride, 2018 hit hard and 2021 has a nice ride. You really can’t beat a rav 4🎉

I just love your thorough, thoughtful videos and your calm voice. :) I was waiting on an XLE hybrid in Ice Cap just like this one, hoping to get the weather package but not the convenience package, when an SE hybrid in Wind Chill Pearl with both packages came available sooner, and I fished deep into my pockets (haha) and bought that. I am in looove! You're right, the black wheels and the piano black trim are flashy. At first I didn't want that, but it has grown on me. And I've never had a power liftgate before but it is nice! Around here it seems that most of the allocations for the hybrids at least are the higher trim levels and are coming very loaded with everything. I bought those door sill protectors and installed them myself - they are a really nice touch. Love my '23 hybrid SE!

Dual exhaust for about a foot out of the 1 muffler so basically cosmetic. It is nice the door's button panel for windows and locking now has LEDs so you can find the switches at night.

We use Rav4"s at my job to make deliveries to hospitals in NJ. I was using a 2018 and back in July I was giving a 2022. All the Rav4's we use are the AWD LE versions. The one thing I liked about the 2018 was it had auto headlights , so I never had to manually turn on the headlights. When Toyota redesigned the Rav4 in 2019 they no longer gave you auto headlights in the LE version , I miss them. I also liked my 2018 Rav4's wheels better , the rims were actually in the shape of the hubcap , almost looked like alloy wheels. Now Toyota went to a generic looking wheel with ugly hubcaps. I like the headlights better in the 2023 then my 2022 , but I'm surprise Toyota didn't revise the tail lights for 2023. Toyota usually tweaks the new models by the 4th year , they did that on the previous generation. I will say though I like the instrument panel better on my 2022 then the revised one on the 2023. It looks like a protractor in the center on the 2023.
Just received ours today 2023, lights are auto again. We hated the 2021 lights
Brain very good job with the review of the RAV4. Very detailed and informative as usual. I do wish Toyota added the fog lights back to the XLE grade as standard. That being said atleast they could be added afterwards if someone really wanted them. Likely they excluded them to keep the cost down.
The Rav is a very nice vehicle. Still loving the Camry a little better though.

One item Brian forgot is this RAV has the optional mudflaps. Look for the flaps as they help keep your super white, super clean.

I also recommend seeking out the actual company’s website which often has the same price, just as fast shipping, better customer service if there are issues, and they make more $ because Amazon takes such a big cut. I believe it beating Amazon and keeping them in their place. 🙏🏼

Standard fog lights would be great at this level. They make a lot of difference on a rainy night. I can actually see the lines on the road.

Brian. Small thing...I do wish the radio was black around it instead of silver. Concerned although it's not bright silver- that it will get glare spots from sun. That is something I will be checking out in test drive.

Yes, HVAC needs to be separate from the info screen as you said. This is the main reason why I chose Toyota over VW. I drove a VW for 8 years and they lost me when it was time to look for a new car.

I'm glad I saw your post here, I'm torn between this and the new-ish Rogue, which does not automatically cut the engine at stop signs/red lights. I think it is the ONLY SUV I have run across nowadays that doesn't force you to hit the "circle-A" button! I'm curious, are you letting your new Rav4 die at every stop...or are you now in the habit of hitting that "circle-A" button every time you crank it up?

EXCELLENT video! I got my 2023 RAV4 Hybrid AWD in EU ‘Executive’ trim that resembles the USA Limited model just over a month now. It is my second one of the current model. You forgot just one tiny improvement on the 2023 models: all four window knobs in the drivers door now are illuminated, small detail, big improvement. The new infotainment system on the Eropean models is slightly bigger but a really big bummer is the lack of AM, yes,Toyota discontinued AM. A huge disappointment, over here in The Netherlands there still are many private broadcasters on AM. So Toyota really f***ed things up! If I had known this it would mean a deal breaker and I would not have traded my previous RAV4 in for this one. Even with all the bells and whisles, wireless this and that on the new system. Having said this, this doesn’t mean I’m not happy with the car, but Toyota should have mentioned the lack of AM beforehand. The brochure states that there is a radio with DAB capability. FM is still there though. I never listen to FM or DAB, nothing on it that’s interesting for me. Greetings from Hekelingen, Holland. Bye, Willem.

Great Video - Love my 2023 Ruby Flair Pearl RAV4 XLE with Convenience and Weather Package. We have had many Camry’s through the years (since the first Camry Hatchback in the late 80’s) but both of us being 75 we need a car we can fall out of and not have to struggle to get out of 🤣😂
The only two things I don’t like is how bright the media screen is - wish we could make background different colors and also don’t like the Auto Start and Stop Button that you have to turn off every time you start the car. To me it is scary when at a stop light and the engine shuts off and all goes quiet 😱
I just looked up where you are located - so funny - we bought our first (of many, many) Toyotas from Johnstons Toyota back in the 70’s when John Jardine was a mechanic/then sales. We lived in Middletown many, many years and moved to MN in 2003.

Hi Brian, might you be planning on doing a video on the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition sometime in the future? I heard that it’s a bit of a disappointment in the US (vs. in Canada) being that 1) no moon roof option, 2) no heated seats option, 3) no heated steering wheel option, 4) no leather wrapped steering wheel option, 5) no power lift gate option, 6) Falken Wild Peak AT tires are “special” OEM tires and not “3 peak snow rated”, 7) no front view camera for “soft off-roading”, 8) no skid plates and 9) same 8.1 inches of ground clearances as the other models.

Oh, and regarding the fog lights... I was really bummed that I didn't get fog lights at first, because I like them for dark country roads where animals might jump out (don't get a lot of fog where I am). And yeah they do look nice, although I'm not one to drive with them on unless I need them. But, this is my first car with LED headlights and they are so much brighter than my old Matrix, and they have a good side fill too. So I am OK with missing out on the fog lights. Certainly if they said I could have fog lights but would have to give back the heated seats I'd say NO WAY! :)

Great car! 2022 is still an amazing car. From my understanding for vehicles effected there was a modification to the cover for that cable. I do not know which vehicles were effected or how they determine that. You could always visit your local service center to inquire. Thanks for watching! God bless

Congrats! Thanks for watching. In my region we have two packages; the floor liner package and the all weather package (includes the cargo protector and back seat protector). All the rav4s vary. But check your window sticker to make sure you have the equipment you are supposed to have.
