Great to hear that you ask God for help. Praying for a speedy recovery and healing. I’m 4 weeks into my spinal fusion surgery. It’s a tough road. I’m praying to Jesus for his healing power.
I don’t know if you still look at these comments, since this was posted almost 8 years ago. But, I wanted to tell you that 1. You are gorgeous, no need to be camera shy. And 2. I’m so glad you decided to make this diary. Of all the videos out there, I relate to your story the most. My 360 spinal fusion surgery is Sept. 17th, and I am both excited for relief, and terrified cause surgery. I felt like your video was God speaking through you directly to me telling me to be brave and have faith. Thanks again, Lindsay
You're still helping people nearly five years now. Hearing stories from real people is much more helpful for me as I prepare for surgery than the BS sounding "official" videos from spine clinics advertising. Would love to see an update as to where you are now, 5 years later!
Thanks for sharing this I'm a month out from my 360 L4-l5 surgery and looking for what to expect. When you said you had almost lost hope and prayed to God for the first time in 15 years that melted my heart. I am so glad your surgery was successful and to hear from your in the comments below. Thanks for the information and encouragement, may God continue to bless you and yours.
Thank you! My case is a little similar to yours, and it was very encouraging to see someone else had pain alter their quality of life. MS is another challenge to diagnosing if pain is more related to MS or to the multitude of back issues presented on MRI/CT….i am eager to see how your procedure goes and if effective in living with less pain.
Gaby, I'm sorry for the delay in my response. I'm doing great. My leg pain went away the moment I woke up from surgery. I'm over a year lost surgery and still feel this was the best decision for my issues. There are days where I do too much, such as cleaning the house from top to bottom, yard work, etc. and my back will be very sore. Nothing that some rest and an ice pack will not fix. Honestly I do not remember what normal was, so I do feel that I'm what normal is to me now. If you're expecting to feel 100% better after your procedure it's false expectations. Id say I feel 80% better and if I would do my core exercises, I'd feel 90% better. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to recovery.
Hi I am in New Zealand and our stories are so similar its kinda spooky, I am trying to get evidence etc for my injured back for insurance and have also been told it will be six weeks and they still will probably say no. I saw a surgeon who crushed me and even said there was nothing wrong with my back, then i saw another one who is a christian who told me to have hope to pray that this surgery will be God's healing and to try to hang in there and that he would do everything he can to try to get the government insurance to cover the spinal fusion but failing that i also have private medical insurance, your video really was a blessing to me and i look forward to watching your other ones, thankyou for doing this Ryan, God bless your recovery.Katie
I had my spinal fusion on November 17, 2016 and I must say your story and my story are very very similar. I was injured at work in 2014 and later re-injured in late 2015 from another on the job injury, by this time my L-4 L-5 S1 two levels up were shoot. I suffered neck and thoracic spine injuries from my second OTJ injury, I was totally oblivious by how my life was change so quickly and there was nothing I could do. The pain from my neck to my feet was something I would not want the people that hated me experience. I began to wonder if I was the only one to experience this. My quality of life as I once knew because I amor was so very independent came to a stop. I had to seek out help and build a support team. It was and became hard. Sometimes I felt like I was all alone and no one understood how I was feeling. I never and did my best not to allow other know how I feel because I didn't want the sympathy from others. I had many sleepless nights before my surgery. Your story is helping me as I go through my recovery. I've seen so many of this videos after my surgery because I refused to watched because I was already scared so I didn't need anymore help in that department. However Before I had my Discogram I did watched a few videos and I was horrified by what I saw. My doctor told me that he would recommend that I did not watch the TH-cam videos just because some of the videos may discourage me because they did not receive the results that they we're expecting he also reminded me that everyone is different therefor everyone's recovery would be different. I have subscribed to you channel hoping to learn more from you from the recovery side after the fusion. Thanks for sharing, I totally trust God and I know he has already healed me, I just have to walk it out in and by faith. Oh yes one final thing I forgot, my doctor was send by God because he took was like your doctor and cared but most of all he believed in God and so did is P.A. and staff and all those that was in the OR that day. ☺️
Wish I'd done a diary like this in 2008 when I had my L5-S1 fusion. Back then, I found very few testimonials so thank you for doing this for others. I hope you're doing wonderful! God Bless!
Your journey thus far is inspiring! I’m so happy that you remembered all things are possible with God. I do look forward to hearing about your next steps! 😉🦋
Thank you for sharing your story! I have a similar story with back issues. I will need a lumbar spinal fusion of my L5/S1 sometime in the near future. I had an Emergency Discectomy/Laminectomy in August 2014 of my L5/S1 disc after suffering from Cauda Equina Syndrome. I have a lot of nerve damage as a result. I have very little if any disc left at L5/S1 and the pain will eventually get too unbearable. Listening to your story helps ease my mind a bit about the fusion. Again, thank you for sharing! Oh and I was curious what part of the country you are in if you don't mind sharing. Just curious about surgeons. They really vary in their opinions and willingness to help others I have found.
Thanks for sharing! Going through a similar situation, you make me want to start a video diary too:) Definitely helping people by just sharing your story. God bless
I'm sorry to hear what you've been going through - It looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel for you though! I'm glad to hear my video helped a little. I wished I could have done the fusion sooner, I've been feeling great. I've been released from physical therapy and now I just have to keep up regular core exercises. I live in the Dallas, Texas area. I hope all goes well for you!
Hi Ryan! I am so happy that I found your Video Journey as I am scheduled for a 360° Fusion (Anterior and Posterior) for L4-L5 and L5-S1 on May 20th. I’m not sure if I missed the update of “What you need/Don’t Need” after surgery. Any Tips, Tricks or advice would greatly Be Appreciated.
I had 2 lumbar fusion surgeries 6 yrs ago 2 yrs. apart of the S1 through L4 and then L4 thru L5 for a 5 level fusion. I am miserable and what's more, it didn't correct my spondylolisthesis aka "spondy". If anything it made it worse and now I also have surgically induced scoliosis as my "northern" verbebra have fallen off of their unstable platform causing "adjacent disc disease". I was told the only way I could correct my situation would be to have my entire back fused. No way Jose....NEVER. I was told due to my age (73) that I would require many days in ICU and then custodial care for the rest of my life ....I don't think so. Even as I fielded the question back to the doctor asking him if HE would preform the same surgery on his own mom should she have my condition he said NO. So there you have it. I have not been the same and if anything I do believe I'm worse. I can hardly walk and the pain is relentless requiring I have a 24/7 drip of dilaudid delivered thru a MEDTRONIC IMPLANTED PAIN PUMP. Take my comments or leave them, but just do your homework and research and find out if a fusion is indicated. I was in hospital for 36 days the first time and 23 the second. I also have no feeling in my right leg on the top of the shin area from knee to ankle...it's completely numb...and I am also mildly incontinent. I imagine my advanced years play in to this to some degree, but before I was stronger and healthier.
I have spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis. They said i might need a lumbar spinal fusion in the future but wont even consider it until i exhaust all my other options:( ive been in like this for maybe a year and a half
I want to thank you for sharing your story, insurance companies are CRUEL and inhuman. I had therapy injections injections in the S I joints a very painful procedure, I had a failed Laminectomy surgery. I have a Slippage L4 L5 I had MRI'S images of the Slippage got opinions of several surgeon's they all agree I need a Fusion surgery. I have an upcoming appointment with yet another surgeon and I'm ready to go forward with the surgery. I don't don't know what is gonna happen with the insurance company I suppose they will make things extra difficult as they are A HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE!

I been tested with many specialists to find hout what's my problem, but God have the last gord! I keep waiting
hi there! thank you for sharing this, I'm about to have the same fusion surgery, you journal make me feel positive, my question is how are you now ? the leg and back pain go? are back to your normal life? because I m dealing with this pain for more than 3 years!! and only because I'm afraid of the surgery I'm still in the same pain, my insurance approve the surgery
Hello I writing this in 2017, I had the same condition like you l had lumber spine discectomy in March 2017 51/s1 right leg sciatic pain, Iv had this problem for over 8 years didn’t think much of it, am also a mother of 2 children eldest 9 and young 5 my husband taking care of my children whist I work as a HCA in a hospital working 12 hours on my foot, I was getting out of control with pain, felt like hell,, suddenly I realised I couldn’t feel my bladder and I can’t feel my bottom, my medication was making sick, and tired during the day time, and no sleep at night I feel like a zombie,😱😱unfortunately I have developed Cauda equina, due to nerve damage, after my discectomy my sciatic shooting pain has gone but my back is still killing me I’ve taken sick note from work, recently I had an other MRI scan which revealed another bulging disk on my left side 😩 my neurosurgeon suggested nerve root injections, if this doesn’t help I will need lumber spine fusion surgery. Anyway all the best xxx Anny
I’m suppose to have a spinal fusion surgery on July 30 and I am absolutely terrified for so many reasons... I’m afraid of the pain and the uncertainty of infections?
