As an ER/ICU/Trauma Nurse, I can't believe a Hospital Administrator would violate the Code of Ethics, the Patient's Bill of Rights, her own Hospital Protocols, the Patient's right to privacy; considering Goodwin is NOT next of kin nor his wife; and she violated the Patient's right to die with dignity and no pain. With lung pressure that high, increasing vent O2 levels and pressure WILL "blow out" the Patient's lungs. Inserting a Ballon Pump/ECMO would blow out that Patient's already "fryable" heart. Goodwin violated standards of practice by committing a "conflict of interest".......which is why doctors and nurses are forbidden to treat or perform surgery on their own families and loved ones. Whoever the writers used for medical consults for this episode, are obviously very uneducated to the knowledge of the medical field and the real workings of a hospital. Goodwin would be fired by the GM or the Board for wasting Hospital resources on such a patient. Over-kill in treating a dying patient is extremely forbidden per Hospital protocols in all hospitals. Expenditures wasted on this nonviable patient is what causes medical care costs to increase to the point people can NEVER afford medical care or insurance. That is why protocols were put in place by all healthcare facilities......to prevent this kind of bad decision making and behavior. AND.....NO human being, who becomes so critically ill, wants to suffer through being poked, prodded, and put through tests and treatments that have no chance of curing that human being.😢 Just an emormous truth to let people know how we should all be able to die with dignity when there is no chance of recovery. Society has lost it's sense of BASIC HUMAN DECENCY. This episode was an exact example of just how lost we human beings have become. IF you truly love someone, anyone....you must have the COURAGE to love that patient enough to let him/her GO.❤
My mil was on hospice and the daughters wouldn’t let her die peacefully but kept shaking her when she seemed to be taking her last breathe, was unresponsive and increasing her pain meds. Then they’d tell her to “ go to the light mom”. Then shake her again when her breathing was shallow. I told my husband they were just confusing her if she could hear them. So sad!
This happened with my bil. His mum couldn't let him go and it was heartbreaking standing back and watching her shake him, asking him to open his eyes one last time 😭😭😭
dont know if it would be possible but Godwin should have been disconnected from this case due to Reggie being too personal for her to make rational decisons

Ms. Goodwin should have recused herself from the case. As soon as this became personal, Choi should have contacted Gwen Garrett to remove her. Personal feelings are a hazard for medical professionals in the ER and OR.
Good thing this is a tv show and not real life. Conflict of interest, breach of protocol etc. You are only allowed to treat friends and family in an emergency situation and then recuse yourself after another doctor is available. Personal feelings get in the way of treatment.

@sjtait6919 .....yes.....it's understandable. But Goodwin was NOT allowed to intervene as she was not his wife or family. Her relationship with her "first love" is a "conflict of interest." Therefore, Goodwin, by law, must not interfere. Goodwin became a huge legal liability for the hospital. She crossed a line that could have gotten her fired. Of course you’re not going to have two employees overly emotional.
