    It's interesting that they chose to do VFX to make it look like an actual storm/natural environment. I feel like the commercial would work better if you could see exactly what was real and what was not. Since I know there's some VFX going on, it makes it feel like anything could have been altered.

      @@BlenderBob Ehhh look I'm not trying to downplay your work, it's just kind of obvious in the way it's shot that SOMETHING is going on digitally, even from a practicality standpoint (ex: "How large of an area could they have actually flooded for this?" or "How are some of the exterior shots so stable if the surrounding landscape is supposedly flooding with turbulent water?" or "Would they actually wait for a storm to start before they started sealing the house?")

      @@LaneCarter I completely agree, I don't think anyone could watch the commercial and think that it's 100% real, which kinda takes away from how impressive the product is... Nonetheless, the VFX work done here was great

    Does this vfx work require very powerful computers? For instance, what is the largest amount of VRAM you have for your graphics cards?

    • @BlenderBob

      Not really. There are no sims and the water is just a plane with a displacement. Any computer can render this.

    Hi Bob, you are the right guy to ask: after spending some 20 years on online marketing, I went back to my passions. I'm a videomaker now, and last August I downloaded Blender 3.3. It's HUGE!
    Now I have to make some money. I cannot wait 20 months or so, before contacting some agency to propose my very simple but useful 3D VFX.
    What is the quickest-to-learn but effective VFX I could propose to (and get paid for by) an agency?
    Just by watching some youtube tutorials, I was thinking of crowds 3D creation, or something like Motion Capture to add elements in a scene... or maybe some particle effects over the footage?
    What's my best shot????
    HUGE THANKS!
    Ciao!

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that's like asking a contractor the cost to build a house without giving him any specs. All agencies are different. They all have their own style. Different clients. So it's impossible to answer you question. What I can tell you is that if you want to study 3d animation, it's usually 2-3 year program and you come out of school and you are just a junior who knows nothing. VFX is a complex and it's going to take you a lot of expertise before you can make a realistic crowd simulation and a lot of computing power, and a hell of a good computer too. There are always render farms that can help for the rendering though. I made a clip about crowds. Check it out. It's not that simple. Nothing is simple in VFX. You're not going to learn fast if you just want to learn by yourself or by watching TH-cam. You need proper training. And if you want to work for agencies, you will need a hell of a good portfolio. They don't work with juniors. Sorry if that sounds negative but that's the way it is.

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  ปีที่แล้ว

      And it's not just Blender. You need to do serious compositing and Blender doesn't have the necessary tools to make high end compositing

    • @IoVideoMaker
      @IoVideoMaker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlenderBob yeah, that’s a harsh reality, but I appreciate your honesty and experience. Saying that one wouldn’t become proficient by watching online tutorials, could maybe be harsher, though.
      I enrolled in a Udemy course with “17 sections • 405 lectures • 53h 13m total length” and I’m following a few 3D youtubers. My hope is to become better with Blender.
      You sound like suggesting I shouldn’t spend my time with online learning… is it like it?
      Maybe I’d better attend a course in a physical place, with a real teacher, if I want to master the 3D field? Thanks!

    How many days it took u to do this vfx shots and how many people needed to work on? 🤔

    • @BlenderBob
      @BlenderBob  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      One modeler, one in textures, on in tracking, one for layout, one for lighting and one CG supervisor (me) for the 3D. For comp I can't tell but it's like one compositor per shots. It took a few weeks because we need to develop le look, exchange assets with the other company, R&D, trying different looks and all. Once the master scene was ready it went faster but we also had a few customs setups and that takes more time.
