The only reason Apple hasn’t gotten rid of the Beats brand and just absorbing it into the Apple brand is because Beats can still be marketed outside of the Apple ecosystem.

    • @simperingham

Main reason is that Apple can use brands like beats to try things with lower standards.
They are very stringent when it comes to the Apple brand.

Limiting EQ to the cable is a HUGE miss. I daily Sony XM5s, and you can set a custom EQ in the app. Once that's done, the EQ is saved to the headphones. I can turn off the headphones overnight and connect them to my PC for work in the morning, and they keep the same EQ. This is great once you find an EQ that works for you, and in [the current year], where any expensive headphone worth its weight should respond well to EQ, this is disappointing to see from Apple/Beats.

I think the lack of multi-connectivity is the biggest miss for these headphones. You had me sold up until that point. To be frantically finicking around with the settings to try to connect your phone to answer a phone call while watching something on your laptop is just a non-starter for a $350 pair of headphones. Even my old Bose QC 35s handle that with ease. Could never see myself compromising on that in year 2023, especially at this "premium" price-point.

The size of the ear cups seem to be the middle ground for people with smaller ears and a lot of ladies' ears, but large enough for a lot of the men's sizes of ears. Make them a balanced fit for both sizes of ears. Not just catering to one. Making them big for the bigger sized ears isn't good for the smaller ears. It is too big for a lot of us smaller eared people. It's also a typical thing to have to turn off headphones (I'm not talking about earbuds 'cause people also call those headphones). It's also a typical thing with Beats headphones to use that button to pair and turn them off. So that's nothing different.

Beats by Dre was ahead of its time. It was the first company that made it seem ok to buy headphones that were sold $299-$499 back in 2011. Wish Apple kept letting themselves make high-quality headphones instead of making them the cheap version of the Airpod lineup

Apple should really go all in with beats and use all the new chips and make AirPods quality transparency as someone who has always shamelessly loved beats but also transparency of the AirPods it would be awesome to see beats on the same level especially since they’re the same company

I love my Beats! Not sure what Gen I have but I hope they worked out the issue with the pads. The material used flakes off and ends up on your skin and clothes. But the worst is how the pads end up looking like the chair your grandfather has been sitting listening to radio because TV hasn’t been invented yet. Don’t mind paying a bit more if a quality fabric is selected.

People keep.buying new headphones thinking that's going to improve their audio experience. When in fact they don't consider enough the electronics, especially their DAC and amplifier. Upgrading your DAC and amplifier will make old headphones go from eh to "wow."

@@Ryengeku The difference between using an internal DAC and using an external DAC is like going to an IMAX movie without your glasses. You are not getting the full experience of what you already paid for because you aren't pairing it with the right euipment.

They didn't include H1/2 simply because AirPods Max 2 will be coming in November, likely. Which will cost a lot more. If they added it to the Beats - significantly cheaper - that would dilute the argument and value for the Max 2. Not to mention, USB-C lossless is useless for Apple eco-system customers, currently. Until iPhone gets USB-C - unofficially on 15 - it's not something users with full Apple-adopted hardware can utilize.

When you say in 1:23 that the built quality is "nicely done" you are clearly lying. It's cheap, noisy, terrible.
    Not worth $100.

Key point for travel: the Apple headphones are more portable because the cups turn flat whereas the Beats headphones just fold and are still rather bulky at that point. I could slip the Apple headphones into a flat pocket on the outside of my backpack for instance but I can't do that with the Beats headphones, they need way more space. My AKG n60nc wireless headphones were great for travel but their hinge design is a weak point and they eventually broke (common problem) and AKG/Harmon refuses to create a replacement part.

Basically if you want a premium affordable over the ear headphones these are your best bet. If your thrifty you can find them online for 150-200$. If you have the extra money to shell out then the XM5s and Quiet comforts are better
