    Question! If I may: 5:38 when you jump power and ground to the fuel pump, are you back probing or did you disconnect the connector to the fuel pump and then attach to the male pins on the fuel pump itself?

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics

    Hey P.J. Great to see a fellow 412er and former co-worker sharing knowledge on youtube! I had one of these last week. Just something for the guys that are not comfortable with the scope. You can check the command from the engine ecu to the fuel pump ecu with a voltmeter that has duty-cycle capabilities. It will show you percentage of on time. Thanks for the vids homie!! I am having the same issue, my module looks pretty rough and my fuel pump is fairly new (2yrs) so I wanted to find out how u jumped out the module to see if that’s the problem before throwing expensive parts at it. Dealers around here are between $500-675 for the module. Any tips to jump this to see if it’s the module?

    I have a 2016 tundra 5.7. Original fuel pump died 2 years back so I changed it for an aftermarket. This lasted 18 months & died. I replaced again & this worked for 2 months. I replaced with a genuine Toyota. Engine starts, 43psi, runs normally but after 30 mins it boggs & splutters out... at this stage I am suspecting this module. Do you think a faulty FPCM might cause the pumps to die?

  • @billrimmer5596
    @billrimmer5596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The video was super handy. Particularly the way u hooked up the fuel pressure gage. When u said that the module sends a variable voltage to the fuel pump, u made me bust out my Vantage Pro. I may b wrong but I think the computer sends a pwm signal to the module. The module then sends a duty cycle to the fuel pump. The voltage remains 12-14 but the rpm is varied by means of on time vs off time. So your original statement seems more correct. But you’re the expert. And your vids r always valuable and interesting. U have all that Super T experience, plus the advantage of factory input that u share with us. That’s why when a Voltage DROP video comes out, I DROP everything to watch it!!

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha Thanks Bill! At the very end of the video I show the wires going to the fuel pump from the module. You're right. The ECM sends a PWM signal to the module. But then the module outputs different voltages to the pump. High speed was around 12 volts and low speed was around 4 volts going from the module to the pump.

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The autel scope has the ability to make custom probes. But I'm not sure how to actually do it. It isnt very user friendly as far as that. BUT there is a conversion in the WPS500X user manual that tells you the conversion between voltage and pressure.

      Thanks a lot and sorry for bothering you sir

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TEACHER!i!i! l yes exactly. So leave your scope on a 5 volt scale for range one of the pressure transducer. Then 1.8 volts would be 180 psi.
      and leave the scope on DC for most measurements.

      Yes. He had good signal to the module from the engine computer, good power and good ground. The module had everything it needed. Then he full fielded the fuel pump at the end of the video with the power probe and car started proving the fuel pump itself works. Great Job PJ - here in Oklahoma it’s just HOT all summer. We stop watching or even thinking about the weather forecast it’s quite redundant...95° -105° from July til September.

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The question about the high amp draw is a really good question. And honestly, it is something that I should have checked. But if I am being honest, from my experience, it seems that the issue is causing by rust intrusion onto the circuit board from being in the rust belt. Still, it would be best practice to check the amperage of the fuel pump just to be safe.

      Voltage Drop Diagnostics - thank you for answering the question.
      Scope diagnosis is somewhat new to me. So I’m always looking for opportunities to use a new tool and sharpen skills. Yesterday we replaced an ignition module and had confidence that it should last because we tested the coil current ramp. Sure is amazing to “see” the current in 3D. The customer had questions about the health of the fuel pump... again current waveform showed a state of good electrical health.

      Looks like the Toyota/Lexus EFI FUEL PRESSURE TEST KIT P/N 09268-45101-01
      As for the individual P/N for the T fitting: 09268-41250-01
      Individual P/N for Quick Connector: 09268-41500-01
      Also, some of the newer Toyota's on the smaller vehicles such as a 2014 Corolla utilizes a smaller quick connect/T fitting (P/N 09268-00010-01) that does not come with the Kit mentioned above.

    Is the only reason for testing fuel pressure first is that its easy and u seen it before?
    Is there any logic based on how the car was acting that made u believe fuel pressure wasn't right? Or literally fuel pressure is your go to on no starts if easy to get a gauge on the vehicle.?

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Turbotomass i went that route because it was the easiest. Generally I would have sprayed starting fluid, to see if the engine ran. But honestly, the quick connect for the fuel gauge is faster than popping off the intake tube to spray starting fluid with the setup that i have for getting fuel pressure readings.
      plus, it had kinda of a very slight, brief start and stall. Which led me to believe that it was getting a small amount of fuel. But not enough.

      Voltage Drop Diagnostics Speaking of Dorman, I’m doing an 06 CRV that has a Vtec solenoid with the wings on it. Just got back from Honda with an OE solenoid when I saw this vid. First things first. Watch the vid, then install the solenoid.

    • @VoltageDropDiagnostics
      @VoltageDropDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      abraham01257 yes and no. I have a video on a corolla with a bad head gasket. But the head gasket isn’t leaking into the cooling system like i believe youre asking for. But instead the cylinders are leaking between each other that i diagnose with a pulse sensor.

      Voltage Drop Diagnostics yeah I have watched that video you referring to, I’d like it... I use Cody’s diagnostics this morning, I’m just not sure if on a good know the line should stay flat, is that stamens correct?... long story short I did find out it had a blown head gasket but I’d like to be able to make a call just by waveform... you’re awesome , people like you and super Mario makes me want to get better at this ,keep up the awesome work you do
