Dispensationalism is simply not biblically correct. Wright and Bird’s book is an excellent read and very timely.

Seriously: dear Podcasters and TH-camrs, can you PLEASE balance the two microphones.
I have to turn it up to hear Tom Wright, and get my ears blasted out when the host chimes in, particularly with a shrill laugh
I will have to turn this off if it Continues; either turn your mic down, or turn his up.
And stop the raucous earspliting laughter- it's like a spike I an old ear.
17:11 Im off to find another discussion with better SOUND

"The better way to be.." is not forced female circumcision BUT you had better not suggest that aborting a late term fetus may threaten the sanctity of all human life. It all becomes arbitrary based on the current moral climate, the spirit of the age. I'm afraid hypocrisy and moral relativism presents itself in all of us, even in our better theologians.

In some ways - I really agree with and appreciate NTs vision of how things ought to work and think this approach would have worked well in the last century - but his approach or application of biblical principles doesn’t seem to offer solutions in the darkening age I. Which we live. I don’t see how his approach handles the apostasy and relative truth and LGBT assault on Christianity not does he make it plain how we should best deal with a world of politics that has become a complete fraud. What is his reaction to the plandemic of 2020 and the WEF global takedown and the coming antichrist system that is being assembled all around us in this technocracy that will soon be a control grid for Satan. Christianity has answers to this but endless discussion and attempting to live as an example is
Not the whole of the answer. And indeed there are spiritual forces behind it all . Where is the place to call out evil and call a spade a spade. Calling out dark spiritual forces that are attacking God’s people and inverting his ways?

I appreciate this interview very much and hear a lot of wisdom from NT Wright, but he is good at articulating his arguments for what the church should do but he sidestepped the question you asked about when a believer shoild engage in civil disobedience. What are the issues where there should NOT be unity and scism or division is the preferable and dare I say biblical thing to do? Or would he argue there is no such red line or issue ?

I believe when worldly authorities, such as King David, seek to rule in submission to divine authority then the Righteousness of God will prevail. ungodly rule may be better than anarchy and chaos but godly rule is worth praying for and voting for

The bible is a continual story of God offering a way, and god’s people fall short, and God offers another way. When israel rejected the judges for a king this was one such concession, the kings of israel failed. God no longer anoints kings because Jesus is the anointed one. Jesus has been crowned king of this world. Do not look to worldly powers to save your country, look to God. Do not expect your vote to usher in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus is already doing this work. As followers we are called to follow him in this work (and not some political candidate).

I wonder if you'd consider an interview/podcast with the author of this new book, Cultural Sanctification: Engaging the World like the Early Church by Stephen O. Presley. This might make a good follow up to the NT Wright interview.

Where to start with Tom's 90+ books? Read Surprised by Joy, The Resurrection of the Son of God is beside me now, with E P Sanders. I am coming out as a Christian, as a gay man it's almost as difficult as coming out as a Communist. N T Wright, C S Lewis, George MacDonald and (surprisingly) the sermons of John Wesley are bringing me to a Faith and Life I never knew was possible. I would love to hear Tom play St James Infirmary with Hugh Laurie, liked Collins and Wright Genesis...

I would recommend starting with "Simply Christian." But, it really depends on your level of knowledge and familiarity with Christian doctrine and scholarship. Wright is one of those very rare scholars/writers who can both write for the laymen and the smartest scholars and theologians. How much have you read already? How far are you on your Christian journey? How long have you been following Jesus? Sorry for so many questions, but its hard to recommend which book if I am unfamiliar with where you are at 🙂

I'm not a dispensationalist but I think NT Wright and Michael Bird are getting their impressions of American politics from propaganda news sources and really don't understand what's actually happening. I'll give their book a fair read and hope that misguided information didn't ruin the book.

Tom's idea that Americans who oppose abortion want 17 year olds to own automatic weapons is ridiculous. I live in a strong 2nd amendment community. Nobody thinks 17 year olds have a right to be heavily armed. I think he's misconstruing the Rittenhouse incident. Although I don't understand how the young man is now a celebrity to many.

@@benporter9945 As a Christian in the US, I've bought their book so I'll know for sure but we're probably going to have to disagree on this.
There are so many psyops that are using the Motte and Bailey redefining of terms and caricatures of Trump that are frankly irrational and delusional. Pure propaganda.
I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 and preferred another candidate this round but I think people with Trump Derangement Syndrome need serious psychological assistance and a fasting from any corporate media for at least a year so they can be deprogrammed.
I don't blame these well meaning people. They aren't evil - just fearful, hypnotized, brainwashed, and confused.
But ultimately the answer for the world isn't political. But still the responsibility we have as citizens is to be involved in our democratic/ Republic govt is to not abdicate our responsibility and honor of participating.
Granted all governments will fail and that's why the world needs King Jesus to rule our hearts.

If you dont "get" the already inaugurated and the not yet finally enacted of the Kingdom, you will simply glissade into some version of kingdom triumpalism or the christian ghetto.
The former leads to action, the latter to withdrawal awaiting....??. Managing to live scripturally and yet led by the Spirit, is where the kingdom breaks through in manifest ways.....
